"Max Frei" is a pen-name of Svetlana Martynchik. She has created the well-known Echo series. Svetlana Yuryevna Martynchik is a Russian writer and artist.

Martynchik studied at the philological department of Odessa State University, but dropped out without graduating. Martynchik lived in Moscow since 1993 and lives in Vilnius since 2004.

Babazyaka Не понимаю почему многим так нравится эта серия. Все постоянно что то жрут. Даже первую книгу не смог прочитать. Нудно. Лучше еще раз вернуться к Мифам Асприна:)

Tried to start reading several times. When I took the books by Frei, I was hoping for a fun fantasy reading judging by its high ratings. After several attempts I finally gave up on Max Frei for being boring. I couldn't finish this one. It's probbaly because the humor of the book doesn't seem humorous at all to me. As for the depicted world, it looks quite schematic and uninteresting.

Liked this book in my childhood, because this is about a magic world (for me). This was one of the books that quickly moved me out from this world for loooong hours.
It is about what I always wanted to happen to me. :)

Ridiculous thing about it is that one my friend used to tell me that this book is not about something real, that the scenario described in it is absolutely irreal.
So I was astonished when someday thing like this happened to me and now I have almost everything that the protagonist of this book has. :) Great feel!

So I recommend this book to everybody who things that in our lives always is a room for miracles.

Самая волшебная книга, прочитанная мною. Ехо - город, в который хочется попасть даже сейчас, после, наверное, 10 прочтения. Идеально подобранные коллеги, которых так не хватает в реальности, с их маленькими слабостями и большими сердцами и достоинствами. Жизнь сэра Макса, которую хочется прожить как свою: приключения, опасности, подвиги и тд. Могущество, в конце концов, которым обладаешь, и которое делает тебя значимым, достойным происходящего с тобой, что ли. И через всю книгу красной линией нежность и печаль о несбывшемся.....

Medium-length stories that combine fantasy and detective motifs: a man from earth relocates to a place called Echo that he found in his dreams. Enjoyable in small doses on tired nights, thanks to lots of humor and fun aspects of life in another place... but I think I'd go on quirkiness overload if I read more than a couple stories at a time.
