Wendy has always been fascinated by romance. She began her first romance novel when she was just thirteen-years-old. It certainly wasn't anything great but sparked the passion for writing romance novels. When she’s not writing, she's usually busy taking care of her two children in Phoenix, Arizona. Wendy keeps busy with her small business and going to college. During her free time, Wendy enjoys traveling and being outdoors. Wendy enjoys hearing from her readers so write to her at authorwendyely@gmail.com
Hands up if you saw this title and started singing Rick Springfields "Jessie's girl!?"
Cos I sure as shit did LOL..
Ok anyway...
This starts out with a Prologue. You read it but it doesn't make that much sense (well to me it didn't) until later in the book.
Samantha is a Daddy's girl, after talking to him on the phone she can tell something is not right. She decides to come home for the summer, instead of staying at school like she planned. She wants to try and make a relationship with her Mother. Her overbearing Mother. To me she's just a bitch. She may be a church going woman and all that, but basically the way she treats Sam is just mean.
Once at home Sam meets Noah, the new farm hand. He's hot, built and loves the farm as much as Sam and her Dad does. They soon form a friendship and from there leads to more.
While at the bookshop in town getting a coffee (Sam's Mom doesn't let it in the house! When I read that I thought yep she really is a bitch! Coffee is like one of the food groups isn't it?! LOL) Anyway, while at the bookshop she meets Jesse.
Jesse is a handsome smart dressed Lawyer.
So of course she starts dating both of them, but has no idea that they are brothers
..........
Look I'm not being mean or anything but this book was just OK. When there is a Triangle there is either NO WAY that you can pick either man or there is something about the other that draws you to them over the other. I didn't feel this for either guys.
It was a short read so I understand not that much time to delve into too much character depth, but I just didn't feel this "connection" the author told me they had.
the blurb states Content Warning: This title contains sex, family drama and a tough choice. Yet I was kinda confused at times, Until the real sex happened at the end of the book. Fair to say I've read a shitload steamier in YA novels.
It was more a sweet read then the dirty one I had expected from the blurb. Returning home wasn’t a mater of choice for Samantha when she decided to take her summer break – it was more a matter of necessity, she had matters that needed airing and matters that needed some resolution and it was high time she sorted them out.
Coming home for Sam is a bag of mixed blessings, she was dying to see her father who was literally the only bright spark left in her life from her home town of Portland. Her mother on the other hand is another mess of fish that she knows she has to face head on and it was not looking pretty.
With yet another argument under her belt with her mother after only a few hours home - she is surprised to find a young man on her family ranch willing to listen to her and make her feel like the special person that she is. Noah however can’t solve that battle royale with her mother but what Noah does for Sam is make her rethink her life as she sees it and the town that she swore she has left behind.
Noah has his own dilemma, he is a simple man with simple values and he had no plan other than the obvious – work, eat, sleep – it might seem monotonous, but it worked for him. Now, not only is Samantha a surprise, one he was sooo not prepared for but he has also been given an opportunity that without Samantha is not worth his time of day – but does he have Samantha or does he even want her.
Samantha has other fences she needs to mend in small town Portland, and as reluctant as she is, she knows she can’t miss this chance to make things right – then she meets Jesse and he is everything that would fit into her planned life outside of Portland, and Jesse is very much attracted to her as well.
They say never look a gift horse in the mouth – but once Samantha look at both these men and what they have to offer her , she makes a startling discovery that she is not sure she can live with.
Another new to me author and I am loving this JESSE’S BROTHER. Once again another age old plot line – but Ms Ely concentrates on the least talked about issues of small town living and this makes this books a winner for me.
Samantha is a good kid, she grew up with the everyday things we all did, friends, overprotective parents and a plan to make it better for herself, and there in lays the problem – her plan did not fall in line with the plan her parent had for her and the unspoken words only made the situation worse from there on in.
I thought Ms. Ely described the parent child expectation very well, it was in-depth and touch on some areas that is not only indicative of small town living. Another angle that I liked but wasn’t delved into very much was the lost of friendship and how things taken for granted in a much bigger more built up area is blown out of proportion and becomes a sore thumb for years.
Those two story line really made this books in my opinion and while the book was about the growth of Samantha and her zeal for finding the right man, who at first should have the right imagine, but when the chips fall where they may she known it not all about what you see it’s also about the heart…
Not enough was known about Noah to really connect with him as I should have as one of the main protags and despite the cover imagine – this is not a ménage, has no reference or even the slightest possibility of going that way.
Jesse was rather a comical character in my opinion and I thought he was a lunatic at the end – he assumes too much, took too much on himself and was just plain angry at the world, but he made up the other half of this love triangle – and I was very pleased Ms. Ely gave very limited page time to him so the book could deal with more than the obvious.
I like this book alot and I am looking forward to this authors next book as she has a style with her flow and a very abrupt way with the scenes that worked very well for me. They felt like little photo clips that revealed more that they actually showed…
Well worth my time reading this one – I am very pleased to have been introduced to this author.
Now lets get to my review of Wendy's debut novel Jesse's Brother which I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy before it's release date. This novel starts with the heroine, Samantha, who is sacrificing a summer to fix her relationship with her mother and find out what’s troubling her father as well isn’t so bad an idea...right? Wrong or so Samantha learns upon her return to Portland and finding that things haven't changed one bit between her and her mother. As if family drama wasn’t bad enough, first comes Noah who works for her father on the ranch who makes her feel like she could be herself around him. And then comes Jesse who she met one day at a bookstore and feels an instant attraction to him because he makes her feel like the person she wants to be when she left her small town home. Samantha is torn between the way her heart skips a beat each time Noah looks at her, and the way Jesse’s touch make her yearn for more. Now to make this clear this is a short story but it packed filled with family drama and sexual tension between th heroine and the two guys she's torn between who she doesn't know are brothers until it's almost too late. I had fun reading this novel because it kept me on my toes wondering when Samantha would find out about Noah and Jesse being brothers as well as which brother she would end up choosing to spend her life with.
I do love romance and I adore complex love triangles. This book does have that and it even has loads of spice. What was missing for me though was descriptive text to draw me further into this interesting world. I do admit that maybe I am not the target reader for this book - I prefer language in the books I read to be emotive, the scene to be set - the book is more to the point and very focused on the romantic conflict.
If you like your reads to the point, then this is the one for you.

Loved this book! Loved the chemistry between Samantha and Noah! Do wonder what happened with Jesse though. Can't wait to read the next book when it come out. Wendy Ely did a great job with this book. the emotions are there to feel. Definitely one of my favorite authors. Looking forward to reading more of her books. and also the book that is to come after this one. Something my friends and I will be talking about as soon as they read it as well!
3 and a half Stars. This was an interesting tale of a love-triangle. I would have liked more development of the love relationships as events seemed to move along rather quickly. I did, however like the characters though I thought perhaps one of the brothers could have fought harder for the girl. The ending was rather abrupt which makes me wonder if there will be a sequel. I'd definitely like to read that. Overall, I enjoyed this novel.
Cute story, not too long. did expect a little more sparks flying around, more chemistry, more heartbeatingly `passionate scnes,but,.... it came a bit short.
I hardly know where to start. I read the first 3 chapters then skimmed a few more before abandoning this novel. It is probably the most obviously plotted book I've ever "read." The reader is beat over the head with the fact that the main character and her mother don't get along. The characters are all cardboard stereotypes, the dialogue is mechanical, and the writing style is very adolescent. The general plot has a lot of potential that remains unrealized. This was the tenth and last novel in this bundle and was clearly not in the same league as the rest. The extra star in the rating is because of the plot possibilities and the obvious effort at editing.

Samantha is a college student returning home for the summer to try and repair the relationship between her and her mother. She never planned on falling in love but that's exactly what happens only it's with two guys who she soon finds out their brothers!! Samantha has to choose between the two and figure out which guy she loves the most and could spend forever with....
My Review: I enjoyed the book very much there were a few scenes I wish the author could have went into a little more detail on but otherwise it's a fascinating book to read! There were quite a few shocking scenes (how could there not be when a character finds herself in love with two guys and finds out their brothers) and some very emotional ones too (Better have those tissues handy because your going to need them) that I didn't see coming at all. I found the book to be fast paced but very enjoyable the author never got off track or made things too confusing. My favorite part of the book is the ending it's so beautiful and romantic and leaves you with a big smile on your face (or maybe it's just me I'm a sap for happy endings LOL) If your looking for a good book to read then I would definitely recommend you read this one!

I gave Jesse's brother 3 stars and here's the reason why:
I was really excited to read Jesse's brother by Wendy Ely because the plot line sounded amazing and it didn't disappoint, I love the whole 'who is she going to pick' drama that you get with a love triangle but I felt that it was a little rushed! Some things didn't make sense the characters weren't as relatable as they could've been and I wanted more depth! Noah and Jesse are completely different and I like what each brings to the story! I think if the book had been longer I would've been attached to one boy more than the other but in this case I just wasn't!
(Spoiler alert!!) Her mother was horrible throughout and it's not surprising that I didn't get that pang of sadness that I usually do when someone dies! I don't know if this was intended but I was a little disappointed!
If I could give Wendy one piece of advice it would be to take your time! Sometimes things shouldn't be rushed and writing a novel falls into that category! All in all the basics were there but it lacked the structure that's needed to make a truly great read! I'll still be reading the next in the series and I hope that now Wendy is a little bit more experienced it will be a more thrilling read!
I gave this three stars but it is more a three and a half, I really liked the premise of the story. Samantha comes home from college for summer to try and set things straight with her overbearing and over controlling mother. Once back on the family ranch she meets Noah Coombs her fathers new ranch hand; a relationship starts between the two of them , but not soon after this she meets another man Jesse in town who also wants to date her. Samantha spends a good amount of her summer dating both men but she going to have to choose one sooner than later. Without giving away to much story line it is near the end that this book that it went from 4 stars to 31/2 stars. I just felt like their we're gaps in the story like pages missing everything went from being crappy to hunky Dorey in a page with no explanation , do not get me wrong I am a sucker for a happy ending just wished there was a little info getting there. However I really did enjoy this book i, it was a sweet over story, a quick read with a happy ending.
I really did like this book! I thought the character's were great but I felt like the story line just fell a little short - I thought that the content in the book was a great story line, I just went it went into a little bit more detail! I loved Samantha and Noah! Frances really got under my skin and I felt for Samantha, I wish we got to read a little bit more about their relationship and the ups/downs of it. Samantha's father seemed like a sweet heart but again, I just wish we got to see more of his and Noah's relationship, since her father felt like Noah was a son to him...
Jesse was okay for me...He had everything going for him, but he didn't melt my heart the way Noah did!
2.5 stars for me. Could have been a good book. It was a little short for my taste but that aside....Samantha comes home from college and meets Noah who is working on her family's farm. Naturally she is drawn to him. At the same time she meets Jesse at a coffee shop. Each of the men have their own unique qualities that she really likes about them. She finally decides on Noah and goes out with Jesse to tell him. She sees pictures of Noah and realizes they are brothers. The triangle comes out and everyone is left with nothing. Noah gets over it all and visits Sam at school to tell her. Bam they are together..The End. Even though its a short story its too long compared to the blink and you miss it ending. There are so many things left up in the air...too many questions without answers.
The main character is a young lady who is conflicted going after what she wants without the support of her mother. No matter what she does it seems it is never good enough for mom. She returns home because she has a bond with her father that despite having to deal with her mom it is worth being there. While there she finds love in two unexpected places. That not being hard enough decision to make she finds another twist that complicates love and her decision even more. This book had great character development and a plot that kept the reader asking themselves what would I do if this was my decision to make.
I received a copy of this book to review. I like the basis of the story, you have a girl called Samantha who is on her summer break at her parents farm. Upon her return she meets her dads new employee Noah - they have an instant attraction. She goes into the town and meets another man called Jesse - they also have an instant attraction. You then read about her flitting between the two whilst deciding to pick the one she likes the most until she makes a discovery which seems to quicken her decision. It's a light easy read which maybe could have had an epilogue but the ending was nice all the same.
Not very often do I feel like I've totally wasted my time with a book... But I sure feel that way with this one. A lot of people don't like the insta-love prevalent in romance books, but I actually do. But the insta-love (for 2 different men who turn out to be brothers) in this one was just stupid. I think because the chemistry was really non-existent in both cases, in just made the whole thing eye-roll worthy. Beyond that, characters were not well developed and I could see no motivation for anything in the book.
133pgs, contemporary, One woman, two men: a single summer to choose between them. This is the first I read by Wendy Ely. I really didn't like how Samantha's mother treated her & Noah. I didn't like Jesse or his attitude. I liked how Samantha's friend helped her make her decision. I felt sad for what happened to Samantha's mother. I loved the ending of the story. I would read more books by Ms Ely.
not really sure how I feel about this one. the ending was so abrupt it was just weird. Like one minute your in the middle of a turning point conversation and the next it's just over. Done. Weird. Also, the story itself was a little jumbled at points and I was left confused and needing more info. I guess I was just never really pulled all the way into the story.
I loved the overall story it was riveting and intriguing. The ending just killed it because there wasn't any. It was like here is the period the end. I wish the author would continue it or give the story a proper ending
