Shirley Lord is a British-born journalist, author, and beauty industry executive whose life exemplifies determination, talent, and reinvention. Born Shirley Stringer into a working-class family in East London, she began her career at 16 as a typist at a newspaper and rapidly advanced to become fiction editor of Home Notes at 19 and features editor at Woman and Beauty by 24. Her early career placed her at the heart of London’s media world, while her personal life remained tied to her modest roots. A high-profile second marriage to British carpet magnate Cyril Lord propelled her into the public eye and high society, experiences she recounted in her memoir Small Beer at Claridges. After relocating to New York in the 1970s, she contributed to Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, becoming a pioneering voice in beauty journalism during a transformative era for the industry. She later served as a vice president at Helena Rubinstein before returning to editorial work. Lord also authored several glamorous novels set in the beauty and fashion worlds. In 1987, she married New York Times editor Abe Rosenthal. Known for her wit, elegance, and insight, she has remained a prominent figure in journalism, publishing, and New York society.

Me entretuvo pero una de las protagonistas, Nell, es INSUFRIBLE. Es la persona más detestable en La Tierra. Mientras que la otra protagonista, Sylvie, por mucho tiempo fue BASTANTE ingenua y me desesperaba aunque me cayese bien.
Cabe decir qué me pregunto por qué demonios había tantas escenas de sexo descritas de forma explícita. ¿Qué necesidad había? ¿Para reflejar lo mierda de persona que es Nell? Supongo que era por eso, pero fue demasiado.
Siento que el libro fue demasiado injusto con algunos personajes y eso empeora las cosas. Hubo momentos en que quería arrojar el libro fuera de mi vista porque me enojaba con las situaciones.
Por otro lado, el libro sabe cerrar bien sus tramas y no deja incógnitas, así que eso está bien. Además de que se manejó bien los paralelos de las amigas.
Sin embargo, no es un libro que recomendaría la verdad.

P. D (SPOILER) Lo único que hizo que no detestara por completo el libro es que al menos Nell recibe karma, algo tardío, pero lo recibe. Aunque eso también me molestó porque no se mostró a detalle como cuando Sylvie sufrió ante todas las estupideces que hizo esa chica.

A história começou muito bem, uma amizade entre duas jovens, com personalidades bem diferentes, começa a ser envenenada e corrompida pela falta de caráter de uma delas, e depois de um ato de traição e de uma separação a amiga traída deve continuar a sua vida ou buscar vingança, mas só que não rs

Sylvie é tão bobinha que você não consegue se importar muito com os golpes que a vida (e Nell) vão dando nela, a história até estava interessante enquanto estava simples, principalmente nas partes em que seguia as façanhas diabólicas de Nell, mas mais ou menos no último terço do livro tudo desandou...

A história começou a se envolver muito com máfia, política das Bahamas, mercado imobiliário, lavagem de dinheiro, personagem que já estava esquecido e bem enterrado voltando do nada, uma coincidências super forçadas.

Seria um livro bom, mesmo que pouco memorável, se tivesse mantido a história mais simples, mas a farofada que o último trecho virou conseguiu acabar com ele de vez.

Another wonderful book! Cath Lamb has taken the topic of priests and pedophilia and made it very real and showed it for the heartbreaking act that it is. The ramifications go on and on, affecting so many in such heartbreaking ways.

And then she wrapped everything in love and relationships that sustain and nourish... Like friendships... Best friends and lovers, of course, but also the often overlooked value of friendships with other women. These relationships are insightful and healing in so many ways. They are loyal and honest, and can bring strength and comfort when needed.

Este libro lo lei hace mucho, que te digo esos personajes me gustan, la frase final es bastante buena y hace que concluya un buen libro. El tema esta bien planteado y te mete mas a la vida de estas protagonistas

Una bella sorpresa. Un romanzo scritto bene, emozionante, che somiglia molto allo stile della Krantz, anche se non raggiunge mail il livello dei suoi migliori romanzi.
La storia coinvolge, è ricca di passioni, dolori, gelosie, invidie, ripicche e sorprese del destino; la prima parte, ambientata a Londra, è coinvolgente, e le personalità dei protagonisti vengono delineate in maniera accurata e profonda; la parte centrale, dell’ascesa sia di Sylvie che di Nell, forse è un po’ più superficiale ed affrettata, ed inoltre tutti i capitoli che hanno come sfondo le trame politiche delle Bahamas li ho trovati confusi, ma si riscatta con un’ottima ultima parte, dove tutte le tessere e le trame tornano al loro posto e il destino si compie nella maniera più giusta.
