Almost 200 years ago at 18 years old, Grace Kennedy was changed into a vampire. Since this time, she has become part of an elite group of vampires known as the protectors, who serve the Vampire Council. As a protector she is sworn to guard the Sempres and fight the Acelades. So when Grace is approached by Lucas Sempre, the head of the Vampire Council, for a special assignment she accepts no questions asked.
Alex is the 17 year old grandson of Lucas and although born of two vampires, he is human. His birth has led the Acelades to believe that an ancient prophecy will be fulfilled. They seek to kidnap Alex to be a mate for Scarlet the granddaughter of Benedict, the head of the Acelades family. To make matters worse, Alex has no idea that his family is a powerful vampire clan. Grace's assignent is to keep Alex safe and unaware of his true identity until he reaches the age of 18. As grace protects Alex, their relatonship blurs. Grace begins to wonder, if she can keep Alex safe from the Acelades and if they can be kept safe from each other?
Jessica Cartwright lives in Sydney Australia with her husband. She is currently working on two new books which will be released in 2014. These books are based on characters from the Fallen Grace Trilogy. She also hopes to release a new series in late 2014.
Jessica enjoys creating characters people can relation to on different levels. After completeing Fallen Grace she realised that the story of Grace and Alex could not be contained in a single story, so Hidden Splendour and Stolen Beauty were born.
When she is not writing, Jessica enjoys cooking for her family and friends and will convene a dinner party at every opportunity. She is an avid reader and will read just about any book from the classics to murder mysteries to autobiographies and of course vampire novels. When she is not reading or entertaining Jessica can usually be found curled up on the lounge with her husband watching crime shows on television.
I'll admit it, I was browsing on my Nook when I came across this book and it was free and sorta had an interesting synopsis. So I downloaded, and it sat and sat. Finally after everything else was read, and I was desperately bored, I cracked this bad boy open with zero expectations. Isn't how the best things always start?
I truly enjoyed this book, although I always love a kick ass female lead. The characters were well formed, and given great backdrops so you really felt as though you know who they are and why they act as they do. Vampires have been done, and done but I do feel as though this book has its own voice. Everything was well developed and transitioned smoothly with a specific meaning behind it. Overall a unique perspective and exciting story to be told!
I loved this book! definitely a must read I love Alex! he was as cute as a button! ha. and the ending was so sweet. the fighting scenes were very well written. kudos to you Cartwright can't wait to read the next book in the series!
4.5 starts......This book was amazing. The characters are well developed and there is an actual plot that keeps you engaged. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars were the occasional grammer and spelling errors.
There were way too many editing issues for me to rate this any higher. I liked the premise but some of the writing at the beginning was very clunky. Actually I should give it an extra star as the heroine for once had a lovely name.
I read this trilogy back in like 2013-2015 ish when I was a young teen because it was free on nook. I remember being obsessed with it at the time, but I forgot the title when my nook died and just found it again! planning on rereading it soon for nostalgia's sake.
Grace is a protector and a very good one at that. She I hired to protect humans and vampires. Did I forget to mention that she was a vampire. Yes a vampire. She and her brother William went under mothers maybe even years of training to be authorised to protect. She thought that William would always be at her side but she was wrong. He was kill in action. She never really recovered from his death. She looked paler and sick. She could never love another man but that was all about to change. She was assigned to protect Alex a human born to two vampires.... Impossible I know.
There was a prophesy that when a human was born to two vampires there will be a vampire born with many great powers. The fulfil this prophesy they must meat before the humans 18th birthday.... But can she protect him form her and can she not fall for him at the same time...
I loved this book and I can't wait to read it again..... :D
Merged review:
Grace is a vampire. A old one too. She is a protector. A protector is either a Sempre or a Acelades protector.
As Grace has finally finished a 3 year long assessment to protect the Trobe family, Lucas, the head of the Sempre family personally comes to her to give her an assessment. Grace being the compassionate vampire she is excepts the assessment. Be deal right. Well you see she was supposed to go on her 6 months leave because she has done a decade of service to the Sempre protectors.
She new that she owed a lot to Lucas and that it was the least she could do. But what she didn't know is that the person she was set to protect is more important then she first thought and that this being will change her life forever.
Ok, ok, I know it's a bad review but I wrote this at 11:30pm.... Anyway this book is a very well written piece of work. I have read this series more than once and I would recommend this author to any of those readers who love fantasy and vampires. Have fun reading my fellow readers ^_^
So this is a YA book and a bit of different take on the normal Vampire sagas. Yes, it's basically a relationship between and vampire and a human. Yes, this vampire survives on the blood of animals - not the blood of humans, she calls it a "life choice" - due to the way she became a vampire. The human in this case is born to vampire parents - which birth itself is rare to vampire parents much less being born a human. Yes, there is a prophecy regarding the "human" boy and "the end of the world as we know it"
I really did enjoy this story - she is the protector and he is the "innocent" victim - although I'm not sure I can believe that he really had NO clue that his family was vampires...maybe chalk it up to teenage self obsession? I definitely warmed up to Alex - however, Grace seemed a bit robotic most of the time...but she's warmed up a bit by the end of this first book.
The main thing that drove me crazy and usually I can overlook this were all the typos and miss use of words. Sometimes I had to read a section more than once to figure out, interpret what was being said.
Over all good story - Did kind of see most of the twists & turns before they actually happened - but a definitely solid pleasant read in my book.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars for two characters (cough Katherine and Alex cough) who proceeded throughout the entire book to annoy me. Ok I'll give Alex some space And see where all of his actions were justified, along with Katherine, but these two characters couldn't do more to wash down Grace's f-in amazing character. Grace however was not my favorite character, that award goes to the lovely George, who never made me mad, or made me want to ring his neck, congrats George! Anyway I would highly recommend this book to anybody that asked me for a book to read and will be reading the rest of the series.
This was a awsome book. The charcter Grace is a kick*** chick! And her love intrest Alex, a softy, friendly, and inocent when it comes down to knowing the situation, is just the ying to her yang. The water to her fire. For future readers who are interested please give this book a chance! Its very well put together. Theres not much left of what to write of vampires because everything has been used before. And writers seem to only barrow from the next story. But this one is an orignal and its unique and very different. A great kind different!
Grace is tasked with looking after a mortal boy...She's a vampire. this book starts off fast paced and thrilling. I really got in to it and I saw there were reviews for bad editing but I can't say that I found more than a handful...which is good going because I have read some pretty bad books when it comes down to grammar. I thought this was a very good book and the story line was great. I recommend this book to anyone. Jessica Cartwright is a great author and I recommend reading the follow up in the series.
It was a bumpy start. The beginning was choppy and the main character, Grace, seemed like she was two different people. The story line was very original and pretty engaging, which is why I continued reading it. Grace seemed like she began merging into the same character later into the book and the ending seemed to bring everything together, but at the same time provide wonderful cliffhangers for the next book. Can't wait to see what happens!
Difficult to get hooked into the book. I found it slow paced and to much description . I like to read to envision the world thats being spun but describing relentlessly is annoying. The female lead was also so pessimistic it was hard to connect. Wish I had more patience but if you don't have meby 1/2 way mark ...its abandon ship:/
I don't normally read books about vampires, but this story was very interesting to me. Some part i was just like, what? the entire time but for the most part incredible
