I have to review this two times. You'll see why.

1st review - reader is a 911 police dispatcher:
Divorced, overweight 30-something woman, bitter about her childlessness and having very little self esteem finds herself courted my hunkalicious cowboy who introduces himself to her at the county fair. Two dates later she agrees to go camping with him for an entire weekend in the Arizona wilderness. Sexy times ensue and he likes it hard and rough. She is never seen or heard from again.

OK so that last sentence is my interpretation of what could have happened. The whole time I was reading this I kept thinking "she's met a serial killer and her self esteem issues are clouding her judgement". It was the kind of reality that my profession makes hard for me to suspend belief and just go with the story.

2nd review - reader who suspended belief:
Megan is fresh off a divorce from a verbally abusive ex husband. She's bitter that they never had children (!!!) and has little self esteem, growing up with parents who always criticized her choices as well. Moving to their smallish town in Arizona, she meets a gorgeous cowboy at the county fair and they begin dating. He is too good to be true, loving her curves and finding her incredibly sexy. The plot twist is of course that he has been a go-between for his uncle who has foreclosed on her parents house. This gets worked out all too easily and everyone's happy. Our hero has a troop of hot cowboy brothers who will be the next heroes in this series. The end.

McCray's writing is fine and the plot a little shaky, but it was the total lack of self-preservation and safety that Megan showed when she first met the hero that blew me away. She is a textbook missing persons case and as I said, my profession just won't let me get past that so it colored the story for me. 2.5 stars

I'm honestly not sure what to think. This most definitely reads like a first time author let out to play, sans editor. Bigtime. But I've read other Cheyenne McCray stories and liked them. Sad to say but I'm dnf'ing for now.

The first book in the Riding Tall series by Cheyenne McCray. Megan Wilder moves to Arizona to be closer to her family after her divorce. She meets the hunky cowboy, Ryan McBride, at the county fair shortly afterwards.

It was a sweet but spicy little read. Somewhat predictable, in my opinion. I didn't agree with some of the characters actions at times but they were likable for the most part. So while I didn't think it was anything really special, I didn't hate it.

Branded for You had that cowboy goodness I like and while a super speedy romance...a sweet one.

The Gist: Megan's just moved into town and plans on spending a day at the fair with her sister. Who cancels last minute leaving Megan all on her own. Until a cowboy saunters up and charms her into spending the day with him. And maybe the next, too.

Megan and Ryan have a thing of instalust happening. Oh yeah. They're surely interested in getting acquainted with each others naughty bits. They really are. But somehow the instalust/instalove worked for them. They were sweet together. Had nice chemistry and steam and sweetness as she worked through insecurities from her past.

There's a smidge of family drama as her family deals with some financial and business issues. It worked okay. Though I did want to shake them that they couldn't catch a clue as to what was happening and who was the cause. But they eventually did. Whew!

Overall, a pretty entertaining read. Nice characters and a good mix of steam and sweet.

This was cute and I liked it.

Was a little bit rushed but still an enjoyable read. The characters were likable.. well except the shithead bad guy but hey it happens. But I liked it.

Megan has moved to a new town to stay with family after her divorce. She lives with parents who aren't the most supportive or loving. She has some curves that cause her to have some insecurities. While at a county fair she meets Mr Sexy Cowboy Ryan. Ryan is sweet and caring... and then BOOM here comes Mr. Nasty McDirtytalker. Rawr baby. Chemistry explosion. Love this. BIG GIRLS NEED LOVE TOO

Add some drama, some sad stuff, and a shithead take down and you have a good fast read.

Hot cowboy hero + BBW heroine + smoking sex SHOULD = at least 4-stars, but unfortunately this book missed the mark for me. I didn't really feel engaged. "Show-don't-tell" kept playing in my mind as I read. There was really potential here for a goodie, but it fell flat and took me days to get through.

I am on my Cheyenne McCray kick! Nothing like a romance and light mystery to make me feel better after a steady diet of deep, dark psychological mysteries full of human monsters. And the Riding Tall series certainly does that.

It's a wonder that Megan Wilder is still smiling. She suffered through a childhood full of criticism from her parents, only to wind up married to a man who is also verbally abusive. Now that the marriage has dissolved, she's moving to get away from all the bad memories and to be able to live closer to her sister and niece.

Before she has time to take a deep breath, she meets Ryan McBride .. tall, dark, handsome...and a man with a good heart. Ryan is instantly attracted to the very curvy Megan and wants way more than a short-term relationship. Megan wants to have a family of her own someday.

When the family business is in danger of going under, it's Ryan who puts the nail in the coffin.. he threatens foreclosure. And Megan's world goes even darker when her father suffers a heart attack due to stress. Will all these obstacles stand in the way of true love?

This is a light hearted mystery, with a lot of romance. It's nice and breezy, and you can't help but hope for a happy ending.

This is a good western romance. I found it to be "over-written" in the sense that every single step in every single action doesn't need to be included. If, for example, the main male character gets out of his truck and goes around to open her door, I assume he closed his own door, walked around the front or back of the truck, and grabbed the handle and opened her door. I don't need each action included.

Not a fan, it was an ok storyline; the sex scenes are meh at best.
I liked the characters, but the self-loathing isn’t something I like in my stories. Where is your back bone, don’t let people bring you down like that.

I liked the sister a lot.

The narration was ok, he didn’t really add to the story it was more like he was just reading words off a page.

Megan grew up with girls her age picking on her. Her own parents didn't help. So kept hearing she needed to lose weight. She married Bart, that ended up being a jerk. He left her for someone that was skinny and younger.
I loved her big sister Tess in this story. She was always there for Megan, and knew just what to say to make Megan smile. She came to help Megan move after her divorce. It was Tess that went off on Bert that showed up right before they left in the moving van.
Megan's confidence was at a all time low. She just divorce her husband, and is now back living with her parents. She feels like she is back in high school all over again. Her parents wants to know who she is with, and where she is going. Her mother is not very kind to Megan.

Megan goes to the fairgrounds to meet her sister, and beautiful niece. She meets Ryan who is nice, and is handsome as sin. She gets a text from her sister, saying she was sorry but she wouldn't be able to make it to the fairgrounds. That gave Ryan the opportunity to spend the day with Megan. It was instant attraction. What better way to feel good again, than to spend the day with a sexy cowboy. I loved the way Ryan made Megan feel. He was kind, and everyone in town loved him. That was the start of a sweet, and fun love story.
Her parents had someone that wanted to buy the restaurant they owned. They said no, and the guy attempted to sabotage the business. The mystery was ok I guess, but the best part of the book was the romance between Megan and Ryan.

So poor Megan! Everyone disregards her. Her parents are oblivious and really only focused on themselves and in the tradition of mothers, Megan's is so focused on trying to mold her into something she not. She has a sister that is supportive but her mom compares her to her sister all the time and finds her lacking. She had a fairly trifling (in reality abusive) husband that she's finally free of.

Now comes Ryan. Ryan sees a hot lady at the fair and decides this is the woman he wants to get to know. He's drawn to her fiercely and wants to get around the walls that she has up. They have a great day at the fair and the connection is immediate. There romance is fun and sweet but seriously ruined by her mother.

I dislike her mother intensely but I'm supposed to. End the end, the ex-husband gets his due and she gets a decent man.

The one thing that didn't work for me is Megan's ability to cater to her mother without any real hostility when her mother is such a trifling heifer! Ugh. Definitely not a fan of mommy dearest.

Megan wilder has been divorced for two months and is moving from New Mexico to Arizona to be closer to her parents and her sister. Even though she is leaving her past and her ex in New Mexico his years verbal abuse has left some scars.

Megan suffers from feeling inadequate about her body size. But that sure doesnt stop Ryan McBride from noticing her at the County Fair. The two hit it off and spend the day together and she agrees to see him again. They embark on a wonderful romance together.

A side story that goes on is her mother and father are about to not only lose there home to foreclosure but there restaurant isnt doing well since the owner of a restaurant next door has decided to launch a smear campaign against them to try and get them to sell to him.

When a tragedy happens in her family and she finds out that Ryan has been part of the foreclosure issues Megan is heartbroken. Will Ryan and Megan be able to work out there issues??

This book was boring from page 1 with it's overly descriptive scenes where nothing actually happens. She spent like 5 pages describing how he taught her how to fish and described everything down to the letter. I wanted to gouge my eyes out of my head with a dull rusty spoon.

The heroine is overly dramatic. The hero is a complete and total moron. He had all the pieces to a pretty simple puzzle and it took him days to get a clue and figure it out. Their conversations were bland, the chemistry was non-existent, the dialogue was awkward and repetitive. I skimmed a good 1/3 of the book, because I didn't need to know every single action they took, and yet even skipping so much I didn't miss anything.

Definitely did not do it for me. Even the sex scenes that were trying to be kinky and edgy were beyond vanilla.

I thought this book was fascinating a man looking for love and a woman who has been hurt. Love it and this guy is a cowboy wow very yummy.

I liked how the storyline came together with a man trying to win a woman who didn't even know if she wanted to be won.

This is hard to articulate because it was such a straight forward story. I thought it was well written and the characters really drew you in. How do you tell someone you love them? How is it possible to get over someone who abuses you? These were well depth questions that were answered by a well mannered cowboy. I believe all women need a significant other to help them through messes.

Overall I would so love to read another book like this and hopeful another cowboy can come and save the day.

This is a sweet romance between Megan, a woman who was mistreated by her ex, and Ryan, a sexy cowboy. Megan moves from New Mexico to Arizona to be closer to her parents and sister. There she meets Ryan at a country fair. They hit it off and decide to spend a weekend camping together in the wilderness. Ryan helps her out with some issues concerning her parents' restaurant, and Megan regains the self-confidence she lost when she was married to her ex. They move from like to love very fast, the entire story is very fast-paced but I did enjoy it.

This book feels like a documentary rather than a story. There is something almost clinical about the way writing style. Now don't get me wrong this is a book I like it just feels a little forced or maybe a bit rushed. Strangely the tempo slowed when the big event happened ( trying not to have spoilers), it's as if the author relaxed once the dad situation was done.

* I received an ebook from the author, but that in no way affects my review, thoughts or opinion on the story. *

This was my first book by author Cheyenne McCray, but it won't be my last! Her writing style is smooth, fun and flirty. She grabs the readers attention from the start and doesn't let it go throughout the book.

The story centers around Megan and her family as well as Ryan McBride who plays a few interesting roles throughout. Megan has always had self esteem issues stemming from a child (and her parents were no help to this), so when her husband leaves her for a thin, model like woman and her parents need help, Megan moves back home...several states away. She isn't happy with her life, but she is trying to make do....until a chance meeting at the fair with Ryan occurs. I am not usually a fan of insta-love, but it does work in this case.

Ryan is a man of several faces....he is a rancher, a businessman, a pillar of the community, and for some reason he is single. Ryan has been the one to serve foreclosure papers to Megan's family (unbeknownst to her) and may be the cause of the downward tumble that her family faces. Is love enough to make things work? Can love overcome some of the obstacles in their path? Do they want to make it work?

The author does tie the story up nicely for the reader even though there are books in the series after this, they can be read as a stand alone with no problems. The characters do appear in other stories, but the reader will be able to start any one of them and jump right in. I enjoyed this story and will be reading more in the series. Be prepared to be wowed - both by the author and the characters. You will want the story to end so that you know what happens, but at the same time you will be dreading the end, because it is the end....

Megan is what is referred to today as a curvy gal. Some might call that “fat”. She was dumped by her husband who was verbally abusive. Nothing like your husband walking out of you telling you his girlfriend isn’t fat. Megan is close with her widowed sister and her niece and agrees to move from Albuquerque to Arizona. Her parents, not a great relationship, own a restaurant her sister works in.

Megan is suppose to meet her sister and niece at a fair. Her niece is sick and Megan is there alone. She immediately meet Ryan. Tall dark and handsome cowboy. She agrees to spend the day with him. He kisses her goodbye, a week later she agrees to go camping with him the next weekend - no pressure. Sorry this had serial killer all over it. But knowing the book wouldn’t go in that direction I let that slide. While camping things got hot and heavy and Megan agrees to intimacy. First thing Ryan says is he like it fast and rough. Really???
Megan has esteem issues but she falls that quickly??

Back from the weekend Megan learns her father has had a heart attack and gets to the hospital on his death bed. Ryan comes to be with her and her mother screams at him that he is the cause of their problems. Seems he is the one who gave them an eviction notice on their restaurant.

You are probably reading this and saying, nope not for me. Well wait, Ryan is more than a stand up guy. He basically fixes everything and admits he has fallen for Megan. I was surprised Megan didn’t bring up her “size” with Ryan because that is such an issue with her. There are lots of Ryan’s out there and when they elevate past all the bad men in this world you cannot help but smile you spent some time w a great guy and a girl who deserves love and happiness.

A cowboy love at first sight romance!

This is Megan's and Ryan's story.

It's a love at first sight romance as soon as Ryan sees Megan, he knows he has to get to know her.

It's a cowboy romance as Ryan is a Texas cowboy who owns a ranch. Making it also a Texas story.

Megan has moved to Prescott to start a new chapter of her life. Recently divorced, she needs new faces and new surroundings. So she moves in with her parents.

I'd call this a big girl romance too. You see, Megan is not ultra skinny like her sister Tessa. And it's those feelings of inadequacy that fuel this story. The demise of her marriage was because he cheated wanting some who wasn't fat like her. Moving in with her parents doesn't help her tho as they make similar disparaging comments.

So I'd say this is a story of a woman coming into herself. Realizing that she is beautiful even if she is a little bigger.

And with the help of Ryan she's able to see that. But a wrench is thrown in their lives when her father has a heart attack and dies. AND she finds out that Ryan's behind the foreclosure process against her parents.

Needless to say, a lot happens. Conversations happen to clear the air and with Ryan's help even her mom is saved!!

This is NOT a clean romance. The opposite. There are a couple of bedroom scenes with too much detail.

But overall, it's a cute story. A great beginning to a new series.

One of my main problems with this book was the heroine not being more confident or at the very least standing up for herself when someone treated her like crap. She would just take it and keep rolling. I mean her own mother said horrible things to her and evidently this wasn't a new occurrence. She was surrounded by toxic people.

What was the point of Ryan going to the wedding and having the woman hit on him if it wasn't going to impact the story in anyway. I kept expecting for their to be a misunderstanding about, especially when he was with Megan again and thought it didn't do any good to tell her about the woman hitting on him, I thought that was foreshadowing the future misunderstanding. Nope.

Everything seemed almost too perfect, but it was a quick read with a couple of sweet and sexy scenes thrown in.

Do you like it rough?

Megan Wilder has nothing to keep her in Albuquerque anymore. Her marriage is over. Her ex-husband left her for a woman who wasn’t so fat and the leftover memories are tearing her apart. So she sells her house and moves to Prospect where her parents have also settled and opened their new restaurant. Things definitely improve when she meets the sexy Ryan McBride. It is hard to believe he considers her beautiful and loves her curvy figure. She can feel herself falling for him, and the sex is incredible, but when she finds out he is responsible for her parent's foreclosure any thoughts of a future go out the window.

This story has a good balance of western romance, steamy sex, and happily-ever-after. I hope Megan’s sister finds someone as wonderful as Ryan.

Putting the past behind

This story is about Megan putting her past behind her and moving on with her life after her divorce. Her parents are experiencing hard & difficult financial times. She meets a man that makes her feel special and beautiful and treats her with respect and care. At a very emotional time, her mother has harsh things to say about Megan & her new boyfriend. Ryan is a wonderful man and Megan has some doubts but follows her gut. Good plot, likable characters & hot sex scenes. Wasn't a fan of describing every aspect of each day or the deleting texts and messages, this was all just cheap page filler. Good read.
