I bought this book in Hobart on the last day of our first time visit to Tasmania. It certainly fills the need of wanting to know more about this extraordinary man and his contribution to how much we all get to enjoy the spectacular landscape of Cradle Mountain today. Thankfully the Parks and Wildlife staff at the Information Centre at Cradle Mountain suggested we take a walking detour to the Waldheim chalet (the faithfully restored replica of Gustav and Kates home at the edge of the forest at Cradle Mountain). It left a deep impression on me and is simply not to be missed, the chalet or an understanding of his story. A visit like that leaves you wanting more and so this book certainly fills the need. I have already started to read the accompanying text "Kate Weindorfer - The Woman Behind the Man and the Mountain" by Sally Schnackenberg.
