This book gives a good overview of Moghul history for general readers. I got some surprising information from this book regarding Moghul rulers. Out of all Moghul rulers I found Ourangazeeb's life more surprising. These are some interesting facts I found in this book,
1. Ourangazeeb was a vegetarian throughout his life.
2. He never failed to pray all the five times a day even in the frontiers of war.
3. He owned few acres of land, he appointed some people to do farming in that land and he lead all his life with the income from that land.
4. We heard that Ourangazeeb imprisoned Sahjahan but author of this book asserts that "It is apt to say that he was kept in his control rather than imprisoned. He was treated with deference and concern by Ourangazeeb. He allowed Sahjahan's daughter to stay with him, he was allowed to visit Taj Mahal, and he was allowed meet and discuss with priests. Only restriction he levied on Sahjahan was that he was not allowed to communicate freely.
5. He requested his descendants to make his funeral to be more simple. He asked to plant medicinal herbs around his burial place

Some other interesting facts are,

1. Female successors were not allowed to marry anybody to avoid sibling fight through their descendants.
2. During Akbar's birth Humayun lost all his kingdom. He struggled for a period of 15 years to get the kingdom back.

After reading this book I could understand that Moghul history also posses love, betrayal, bravery which deserves to be written as an epic.
It is not 2 page detail which we have read during our school days.

Something negative I found about this book is, it is so prosaic and it lacks good picture art. Otherwise it is a good read.
