One of the most prolific avant-garde Czech writers in the first half of the twentieth century and a co-founder of the Surrealist movement in Czechoslovakia.
Multimedia avant la lettre: This is not just a poetry book, and not just a poetry book with some visual arts embedded, but even has ten pages of sheet music, and descriptions for a pantomime and a ballet. The aesthetics are absolutely in the style of the era, the Devětsil/Poetism movement, which was the Czech answer to Futurism/Dadaism/Surrealism. So be prepared for some far-flung associations, sometimes bordering on the absurd. Overall it is very readable though, spacious, inviting, not harsh and confrontative. In my opinion Nezval wrote better poetry later, so if you want to get to know the best of his work, better look for Absolutní hrobař. If you're already interested in Nezval and want to see where he comes from, and how he developed his talent, then to go through this volume is not a waste of time, either.
