--- Seiho Boys High School 1-8 ---
Penokohan: Ok.
Gambar: Ok!^^

Mencari kisah tentang asrama cowok?
Mau melihat kehidupan anak-anak cowok?
Soalnya cowok-cowok disini............. SERIGALA! “(`(エ)´)ノ //eh

Makanya, kalau mencari kisah penuh keringat masa muda komik shounen, anda salah alamat! Mwahahahah!

This was a strange one. In the world of shojo, this book is an oddity. The story follows a group of boys living at a secluded boarding school. They are horny, lonely, and looking for love at every possible opportunity with no success what so ever.

At first I didn't think I would like this. It's definitely not my thing and if the first three volumes weren't on the library shelf I probably wouldn't have bothered. I was pleasantly surprised. The book is broken up into three main stories and an unrelated side story. The art is pretty fantastic and each male is an individual which I mark as an accomplishment in and of itself. The writing is interesting. It reads very real, yet still has that shojo vibe to it. I really, really did not expect to like this one bit, but there was a nice balance between the heartfelt moments and the no-holds horniness.

It's not for everyone, but worth a try. I'm interested enough to at least read the next one, which may not be a ringing endorsement, but certainly unexpected. This was a weird 2.7999 STARS rating.

In my collection of Viz first volumes now released on sale or points back on Bookwalker (yay!), I managed to buy both this and Doubt!! If I'd read either one before buying the other... I wouldn't have. The preview for this had a modern Here is Greenwood vibe but by the time I got to the school nurse, it was nope nope nope.

(To be clear, I didn't mind the teen boy stuff although I don't prioritise teen boy fantasies in my reading, cause basically ick, who needs that. It was that I wanted character and situation-based comedy and I got lazy and cliched with overt sexual bullying.)

I thought it would be about boys going out of their way to seduce young women but turns out it's boys going out of their way to find cheap porn and stare at the school nurse's tits. So you know, gets old pretty fast.

I had to reread the volume to figure out which characters were which. There were too many complex relationships that didn’t get explored but had definitive endings, and some were taboo. Overall, I was very confused and won’t be continuing this series.

The art was good and all.. but what’s with all the incest tropes…? That’s really weird. I knew it was gonna be a weird book but what the heck! I was expecting boys high school drama not “I’m in love with my little sister.” Bro come ON!

A lot of expectations and preconceived notions naturally follow any manga series published under the Shojo Beat banner: a dramatically told love story that is heavy on the romance and drama and told from the female perspective specifically for the female gaze. Seiho Boys High School!, as it stands right now in its premiere volume, is really none of those things. Sure, it has some dramatic moments and the purpose of the series is so its cast can one day find romance, but it's a series about horny teen boys on a secluded high school who see more girls in the pages of magazines than in real life. Hell, at one point two boys end up fighting over the rights to read a pile of porno mags; they are not exactly the dreamy mature lads from series like Hana-Kimi or Boys Over Flowers, not by a long shot - which is good, because I honestly think this series would be dead boring if they were.

Boys like Nogami and Maki don't really live in the world of reverse harems seen in Ouran, and you'd do well to not categorize Seiho Boys High School! as a reverse harem manga: even if the ratio of boys to girls is overwhelming based on premise alone, it's not about which boy will which girl hook up with in the end or even about the girls at all. This series consciously decides to not view the boys' school for a female gaze, showing all of the gross and unkempt things that naturally arise from a ton of adolescent males living in dorms and rejects romanticizing their lives in favor of showing what happens when boys who don't talk to the opposite sex on a regular basis cope when meeting one after a long girl-less dry spell (hint: it is not pretty for anyone involved, as poor Ayako found out the hard way in her respective chapter).

Despite it having a lot of things going for it in terms of being out of the ordinary, Seiho Boys High School! somehow manages to stumble over the starting line by committing a terrible fallacy often seen in series that want to be unique by doing half the work required: it tries to pander to the same characteristics found in so many shojo manga before it, from the fireworks at the beach to stealing a bike and riding off into the sunset with someone else's girlfriend. There's even a smattering of sister complexes that would seem by-the-number if it weren't for the actual characters involved. In the process of embracing some tired tropes, the series self-consciously laughs them all off and occasionally subverts them to humorous effect, but even this can't hide the self-doubt it has in its own message: a manga series about boys for girls that isn't bishonen city 24/7. Sadly, this self-esteem problem routinely manifests itself from the mouth of the manga-ka herself; Izumi doesn't seem very confident in her work, comparing it at one moment to a weed in a bookstore and practically begging her readers to buy her work. This kind of humble-is-me pandering is usually typical in manga-ka's side notes, but coupled with the in-story issues the series already suffers from, perhaps it would not have hurt Izumi to show a little more faith in her own work's strengths.

What exactly are Seiho Boys High School!'s strengths? For one thing, it is wickedly funny, especially the blue humor that shows up during the scenes in the boys' dorms, whether they be fighting over porny mags or yelling at a certain "butt-scratching prince". The artwork works hand-in-hand with Izumi's own sense of comedy, especially when it comes to facial expressions (it seems that the usually low-key Maki gets to wear the best of these, followed by the always overly dramatic Nogami). It takes its time setting up what will probably be the series' usual cast of characters, but there are hints galore that now it is more comfortable in its setting and story foundation, the only direction that Seiho Boys High School! can possibly go is up - and with it, the size of its readership. Only the release of the second volume will truly tell, and hopefully enough people will hang around for it to see how this manga stands on its own two feet.

I'll be honest at the start of this review & say that this series really wasn't for me. It's a cute read but it's kind of not my style. That admission however, does not stop me from recognizing that this is a pretty decent series that's sure to gain a good fan following.

The storyline follows a bunch of gorgeous guys in an all boys school as they try to gain the attentions of the various girls that they run across & for the most part, failing miserably. Whether it's a forbidden love or an unrequited one, these guys just can't seem to get a break!

I have to admit, this series was pretty darn cute. I recognized the author's work in the series Doubt!!, which was a pretty decent series. As in Doubt!!, the artwork is pretty nice & you can see where she puts a lot of love into it. The stories are also pretty decent, being completely one shots that have almost no relation to each other except for having the same cast of characters. Fans Izumi's previous works will undoubtedly be drawn to this series & those who like a hint of boys love in their manga will love the slight brushes against that genre. (I can't honestly say if that element gets more explored as the series progresses.)

It's just that in the end this series didn't really do anything to personally draw me in. I liked it & if I see the second volume on the shelves of my local bookstore I'd read it, but it's not something I'd buy or re-read. Like I said above though, I can see where this will be incredibly popular with other people.

Ceritanya lumayan sih.. nggak terlalu menye.

XD

Kenapa baca komik ini? Soalnya udah fix ada 8 volume, jadi nggak akan di-PHP nunggu endingnya kayak pas baca The Wallflower, Vol. 1. Terus kenapa bintang 3? Tadinya mau ngasih 4 tapi extra-story di belakangnya agak jijay -___-"

Cute read with some fun characters. When I read the jacket and saw that this series focuses on an all-boy boarding school and the daily ups and downs (and puberty driven lusts) of said teen boys, I was worried this would be a teen series with a pervy 'to much info about teen boy desires' edge. However, the characters (while desperate for girls) are really sweet and rambunctuos in a typical teen way. Teen drama at its best - where characters laugh and cry and pick up their friends' spirits along the way ;b

Gay, Jock, Perv, and Good Guy. The four main characters are all desperate for relationships! Mostly a comedy, there are some here and there pieces of seriousness. The boys have more experience with 2D (magazine) than 3D (real) girls! What's funny is how they all seem to end up in bad or not-to-be relationships. The gay boy was the only one to have a real girlfriend in middle school. A fun light read.

Ngakak baca komik seri ini.. Saking ngakaknya sampe nangis XD.
Baru baca sampe seri 4 sih.

A romance following the male side of things, I have a soft spot for this. Certainly not realistic but still it drew me in with the different characters and great humor.

There isn't a main thing going on but the stories are good and the characters are nice. It's something nice to read when you're not sure what to read or in between series.
