OK, but I hate TSTL actions and behaviour, thus the 3 stars!!!

The story id interesting and action-packed, but I didn't like neither Morgan nor Hunter! Why? Let me explain.

Morgan comes from a very rich family, but she's a working woman, a biologist tracking rare and endangered animals for a Federal agency. And even if her father is the CEO she's hard working and dedicated.
When part of her team is killed, apparently by a poacher, she becomes comitted to discovering what really happened. She feels a heavy reponsibility for their death because she think she should have been there to help them.

Her father is very worried about her going where the murders took place by herself and impose on her a bodyguard: Hunter.

Hunter suffers from PTSD after a mission in Afghanistan where a large part of his team died in an ambush. He feels responsible for those deaths and tortures himself with recriminations. He put his life on hold and refuses to go on and live when so many people died due to his actions.

Obviously both have misconception about each other: Morgan thinks Hunter will be a hindrance to her work, while Hunter thinks her a spoilt, rich daddy's girl.

Both are mistaken. And both are hugely attarcted by each pther, even if they do everything to deny it!

This could have been such a great book, because the promise was there... but...

Morgan has many TSTL moments:

I wanted to hit Hunter on his head! He was such an ass!!! He taunts Morgan constantly, but keeps important information about leads he discovers from her.

I particularely disliked how he treated her after sex!
OK, he has his issues, but it was so brutal...

All in all I din't like the MCs and thus my enjoyment of the book was lessened... I'm sorry...

Quick summary
Hunter Phillips is a former Marine gunnery sergeant now working as private security for Ethan Cooke Security. Morgan Taylor is a wildlife biologist for the Parks and Conservation Bureau heading up a six-member research team. When part of her team is murdered on a research trip in Montana, she decides to go there to find out what happened. Hunter is hired by her father to be a resistant Morgan's bodyguard.

The issues
Hunter is suffering from PTSD after a horrific final mission in Afghanistan that also left him guilt-ridden when most of his team died. Morgan is fiercely independent and resents having a bodyguard, let alone the gruff Hunter. There's lots to be cautious about but Morgan doesn't appreciate his skills in protecting them both.

What I liked
The tension level in this story is high as the investigation in Montana turns really dangerous. It's extremely suspenseful with lots of twists, subterfuge and intrigue. When things get really dicey, my nerves could hardly stand it. Hunter and Morgan's relationship didn't happen quickly and developed appropriately, IMO, with the course of the story...romantic and steamy at times and explosive at others. I liked their conflicts as it was completely in keeping with the natures of both.

Bothersome moments
As much as I liked Morgan, she drove me crazy. Hunter proved time and again that he had skills but she repeatedly defaulted to her own "judgment" and ended up putting them both in peril. And, Hunter...he repeatedly withheld information from Morgan when it made no sense to do so. This undermined both characters, enough so I lowered my rating a half star.

The bottom line
Despite my bothersome moments, this is a well-written story and Beauman gets the mystery and suspense right. It was downright scary at times and the twists caught me off guard. The romance works even with my issues. I'm definitely continuing this series, which I've heard gets even better. 3.5 stars

I cannot imagine how our brave men and women feel as they dodge IED’s and bullets in a foreign land, so…

When Hunter was at Jake’s side in Afghanistan, as he lay dying, Jake made Hunter promise to take care of Sarah and the baby.

Hunter had been injured himself and nightmares haunted his sleep.

Morgan didn’t hurt for money, but she worked hard anyway. She and her friends were the six Musketeeers and committed to their environmental work…until three are found murdered. She seeks answers with a vengeance.

She is a scientist doing wildlife research, not a fighter, so her dad’s solution…Ethan Cooke Security and Hunter is assigned to work with her.

This is my favorite type of reading. I do want a high degree of suspense and I feel it throughout…waiting for the culprits to show themselves and the confrontation that will result. Making this mystery even harder to solve, is their location, alone in the wilderness.

Two strong personalities clash and the verbal foreplay begins. Sparks are flying from their first meeting. Of course, we knew this was coming. After all, Morgan’s Hunter is a romantic suspense, so I would be hugely disappointed if it didn’t.

Cate Beauman does a fabulous job of creating desire and painful denial, the characters not allowing themselves to act on their attraction. Their denial creates it own suspense and anticipation as I wait for them to act on their feelings. I keep waiting for them to drop their guard and get it on.

I knew something would happen before they left the forest. I hate the way it happened, but it had to be that way. Sometimes Morgan acts like a spoiled brat and it makes me wonder about myself. I can be obstinate and cantankerous when someone tries to boss me around. Would I do that in her situation?

Greed, money, power…who knows what will cause a person to corrupt themselves.

The danger doesn’t end when I thought it would. I love that Cate kept me on pins and needles, sneaking in the last tidbits of goodness, choosing the time when I can take a breath and say, “OMG, What’s next?.”

This fabulous series stands alone and ranks high on my reading list. I can hardly wait to read more.

I voluntarily reviewed Morgan’s Hunter by Cate Beauman.

A view weeks ago I started reading the Bodyguards of L.A. County series. And ever since I started, I haven’t been able to stop reading these books. And I was really curious about Morgan and Hunters story. So when I got the opportunity to read another book in this series, this was the book I choice and I couldn’t wait to start reading. ‘Morgan’s Hunter’ is the fourth book in the Bodyguards of L.A. County series I read and it’s the first book in the series, but every book can also be read as a standalone. And I’ve been reading these books completely out of order.

‘Morgan’s Hunter’ is definitely another great story. Morgan is a wildlife biologist and her parents happen to be very rich. Morgan is easily thought of as a privileged and sometimes spoiled woman. But that is definitely not who Morgan is. Morgan loves her job as a wildlife biologist, and loves spending time in the woods searching for wildlife. I loved how Morgan definitely wasn’t your average ‘rich’ girl.
Hunter is scarred by his time in Afghanistan and the friends and colleagues he lost. He now works as a bodyguard. Hunter is very good at keeping people at a distance, but when he meets Morgan he soon realizes she is more than meets the eye. I sure loved reading about how these two fell in love.

Just like the other books in this series I read, I loved Morgan’s Hunter. I really enjoyed getting to know Morgan and Hunter. And it was definitely fun to read about their adventures in backcountry Montana. Their attraction to one other was obvious from the moment they met, but they both had a lot of prejudices. It was a lot of fun to read about how they struggled with their growing feelings for one another.

Although the overall storyline is a little less than the other books in this series, I still give this book five stars. I loved it and really enjoyed reading every single word! But there was a little less suspense and action, than in the other books. But as a first book in a series, this book would have definitely grabbed my attention and made me want to read more and more. For me.. I was already hooked to this series, and I definitely need to read them all!!

This is Hunter - a former Force Recon Marine. He's quite a guy. This is Morgan. She's gorgeous. She's one lady who knows how to take care of herself. By the way, my name is Ian. I read the book, which wasn't easy; 'cause when they met... it was horrendous!

I was tossing up whether to rate this 2 or 3 Stars. In the end I settled on 3 Stars. There were some good moments when I wasn't banging my head against a wall. The author really needs to do a little more research on bushcraft and on how weapons work and their limitations.

Morgan's Hunter
1 Star

When her research team is murdered in the remote Montana wilderness, wildlife biologist Morgan Taylor is determined to uncover the truth of what happened to them even if it means ditching Hunter Phillips, the personal bodyguard hired by her father who has the annoying habit of getting past her defenses in more ways than one.

A huge disappointment!
The book has such tremendous potential both in terms of the intriguing suspense story and the love/hate relationship. Unfortunately, the weak plotting, the tepid romance and the irritating hero and heroine turn a recipe for success into an unmitigated disaster.

Let’s start with the problematic writing style. The opening chapter is excellent and ostensibly sets the scene for an action packed story and an emotionally tortured hero struggling with PTSD. Alas, the rest of the book does not live up to this promising beginning as the author has a tendency toward telling rather than showing. This leads to long drawn out descriptions of everything from the socialite heroine’s hair treatments to the shower that the hero manages to jerry-rig while on the run from gun toting baddies in the woods.

Neither the hero nor the heroine are particularly appealing. Their romance is tedious and their sexual tension feels forced. Morgan is supposedly an intelligent and resilient woman, but comes across as spoiled, stubborn, headstrong and TSTL in the extreme. Of course, it doesn’t help that Hunter runs hot one minute and cold the next. Moreover, his childish attempts to “protect” Morgan by keeping her in the dark about the dangers around them inevitably lead to several idiotic plot points that are even more unrealistic than the cookie cutter villains.

The last few chapters epitomize all that is wrong with the book as the writing becomes even more prolonged and drawn out with Hunter and Morgan wallowing in their annoying angst.

In sum, definitely not a series that I plan on continuing.

March #TBRchallenge theme is 'a recommended read'. I don't have many recommendations as I don't often actively ask for them. My TBR is huge as it is and recommendations just add to it.

Still I did have one or two books on the TBR that qualified for this month's theme. This one was recommended to me by Rhian Cahill I think over a year ago...we were talking books and RS and she recommended this series to me.

Hunter Phillips is a former Marine turned bodyguard after being injured on duty. He suffers from PTSD. I grew to like him througout the story as he can be a bit judgemental but he's also caring and protective.

Morgan Taylor is wildlife biologist at the Parks and Conservation Bureau. She's strong-willed and short-tempered, independent and really stubborn.

Sparks fly between Hunter and Morgan from the moment they meet and preconceived notions on both sides make for great tension and verbal sparring between them. I loved that. It bordered on outright animosity but Ms.Beauman was able to pull it back in time every time I'd think it was going to hurt the believability of the romance. The romance was built up nice and slow and was in balance with the suspense.

I really liked Cate Beauman's writing. It was lively and fluent and filled with subtle humor. It was descriptive but not overly so and without any lengthy info-dumps.

I liked this book but it didn't blow me away. Not unusual for RS there are a lot of characters introduced and this made for a start that was kinda slow after the emotionally gripping prologue and first chapter. I also thought it fizzled out a bit in the middle and the suspense plot was a little predictable but it picked up in the final few chapters. So it ended on a high for me and I hope to read the next book soon because this is a RS author I want to read more of.

Overall rating 3.25 for story, 4.0 for narration.

Some large spoilers contained, you have been warned wink

Why so low? The plot involved an element that drives me insane, no other word for it. When characters don't disclose information because either they think they're protecting someone or don't think the other person can handle it, that drives me crazy. Much of the danger in the plot had to do with the lack of trust both characters had in the other. I don't like "stupid" decisions being the mainstay of any plot. I understand one big miscommunication or one foolish decision but when it keeps happening I throw my hands up and want to shout give me a break .

Still a 3 isn't horrible, but it's a book I would never recommend.

Why even a 3, other than the major lack of trust each character harbored. I liked the characters, I liked the plot with regards to gold mining in Yellowstone. I liked PTSD being a major player in the plot, I liked how Morgan was strong yet ridden with guilt over her teams demise. I liked how they handled it and fell in love.

But for me it was spoiled by what I thought was just plain stupid decisions. You are in danger hello, you need to share to make the other person safe. You need to listen to each other.

I will continue the series, hoping the next plot isn't based on communications/trust issues. But if that doesn't pan out that will be the end of the series for me.

First read 02/01/2013 4 Stars.

Reading this the second time around I’m still as impressed as I was the first time round but now I feel as if I can explain it better.

The plot of this book is superb, and the twists and turns that there are so if that alone I give this book 5 stars.

Morgan Taylor is a biologist and on a trip half of her group is murdered at Yellowstone while she was in Maine, both of them were trying to track a lynx. For a D.C. Socialite she knows her job and does it well. She is stubborn, sassy and loyal to a fault. She also is a bit dim when it comes to life or death situations. The ‘but’ comes in a minute.

Hunter has been back from Afghanistan for two years after he lost his best friend and almost brother Jake since then he has locked his emotions up tight and only lets, Kylee and Sarah in. Jakes widow and daughter. He works for Cooke Security and takes a job protecting Morgan. I like him and here come the ‘buts’

I didn’t like them together most of the time. He lied by omission and Morgan had a death wish besides he was mean actually they were both mean. There is a fine line between love and hate. Morgan gets 3 Stars and Hunter gets 3 Stars.

Let’s say about 3.5 Stars total for the book. I really like this author.

Really liked it!

I'm very glad I took the chance on this one. I saw all the favorable reviews and thought I'd give it a try.
I'm so glad that I did, this was a well written romantic suspense. The suspense was important but it didn't take over the romance.
For my GR friends this isn't as dark as Karen Robards or Allison Brennan, the suspense is a little lighter. Also, the heat factor is fantastic!
I'm happy to discover a new author and will be downloading book #2!

When I read the blurb I was really excited to for this story but it was hard for me to continue at times. Morgan was trying to be on her own, show that she make it on her own. Hunter is still feeling guilty for coming back from war and his friend didn't. Hunter and Morgan were not a good couple they had their moments but they were both mean to each other, they bicker so much and Hunter kept being a jerk. The blurb was great plot but the characters were too much.

This book had potential but both the hero and heroine were TSTL. I was really looking forward to this book. The plot sounded really interesting. When Morgan's entire team is murdered she sets out to find out what really happened even if she has to ditch the bodyguard her father hired to protect her.

Morgan does indeed travel to where her team was murdered and she is with the bodyguard that her father hired but I didn't see anywhere in this book where she investigates the murder. Morgan and Hunter have an immediate love/hate relationship that could have been really entertaining and the suspense behind the murder also had a lot of potential. Unfortunately, the incredibly stupid decisions of the main characters and the tepid romance into a forgettable book.

The sad thing is that the first chapter in this book had me enthralled. It was an emotional and satisfying introduction to a hero who was suffering from PTSD. I was hooked and so looking forward to how Hunter would move forward. Then we meet the heroine who I believe was supposed to be strong and intelligent but really just comes across as stubborn, spoiled and quite frankly stupid. The decisions that she makes that put both the hero and heroine in danger are truly some of the dumbest I have read about. Unfortunately, the hero isn't any better. He is hired to protect Morgan and yet he takes her to the location that he thinks the people who killed her team are at. His decisions not to tell her what is going on is not only stupid but make absolutely no sense. To make it all even worse, Hunter runs hot and cold and the heroine's "love" for the hero comes out of nowhere and is one of the most unbelievable romances I have read. The details slow the pacing way down as we get descriptions of everything from Morgan taking the time to shave when they are on the run to how they hook up a shower.

Just when you think the book is drawing to an end, the couple continue on the run. The villains are nothing new and you don't get to find out much about them either. Unfortunately, this book was a great beginning and then went down hill from there until we reached the ending which was drawn out and ridiculous.

I loved this book so much I ended up staying up all night reading, because I just couldn't put it down. My husband woke up at 6 am, and gave me a strange look. I said I can't help it; it's a Great Sappy Romance. This book starts out with a military mission during the 1 st chapter. The rest of the book is about Hunter protecting Morgan while she works outdoors at Yellowstone. Morgan is feisty, and thinks she is in charge. Hunter has to protect her, it's his job, so they have a few disagreements. There are some parts of this book I laughed out loud. Other parts of the book you can feel the emotions of heartbreak, anger, and I loved the times I could see though the pages to see the Happy times. This was a relationship that was slow to start. I like relationships like this, because they feel real. The sex scenes were hot, and spicy, great details. I loved this book, and can't wait to read book two!

Sample from Chapter 18
The man in the Army fatigues walked toward her, scanning the area. S***, s***, s*** was she saying that out loud? Had he heard her? She glanced around for a stick or rock but didn't dare move toward any possible weapon she saw. He walked closer until she heard the fabric of his pants rub together, made out of threads attaching the sole of his boot to black leather. If he kept up the pace, he would step on her if he didn't shoot her first. She closed her eyes, held her breath, waiting for the bullet that was seconds away.

Morgan and Hunter what a pair, what a team, what a freaking disaster....lol

So what do you get when you mix a DC socialite/scientist with an ex military man who suffers from ptsd?????? Survivor of the most stubborn, seriously these two are a match made for the wilderness.

Hunter is a judgemental ass who takes one look at Morgan and assesses WRONG, Morgan is pissed before her new bodyguard arrives but you know what she picked his personality pretty spot on from the start....lol

Morgan might come from a wealthy family but seriously there is nothing about her that screams entitled rich bitch but that's what Hunter tags her as.

I did love the hiking for their lives through Montana wilderness but having to wait for the very end of the book for Hunter to apologise and grovel seriously at least Morgan had the guts to apologise along the way often not once did Hunter apologise he kept telling himself he shouldn't have to ....lol that attitude got him a long way.

I really enjoyed the mystery the story could have done with a bit more descriptive writing along the way but overall a good read.

“Let go of me,” she said weakly as her heart pounded—but it wasn’t fear that made it race.
“Not yet,” he murmured, pulling her bottom lip between his teeth, nibbling gently, his gaze burning into hers. “I’m the only person around here who’ll be taking a bite out of you, Morgan. You remember that.”

I don't quite recall how I came across Morgan's Hunter by Cate Beauman, a new-to-me author that I wanted to try out. The first book in The Bodyguards of L.A. County, which has about eleven books published to-date, this is the story of 28 year old Hunter Phillips who becomes bodyguard to 26 year old Morgan Elizabeth Taylor, a story of opposites attract with a reluctant hero to boot!

Morgan is a wildlife biologist and socialite, whose idyllic existence is shattered when she receives a phone call that changes her life forever; that her research team had been found slaughtered. With no clues coming forth and the case growing colder by the day, Morgan is determined that she would get to the bottom of it, even if she has to go down to the location herself and find out what happened.

Knowing that Morgan is resolute about going, she is assigned a bodyguard from one of the best security firms in the country. Morgan gives in, more so to appease her father than anyone else, and finds herself saddled with a man who takes her breathe away and at the same time makes her grit her teeth from the need to say something that would bring him down a peg or two.

Hunter has no qualms about labeling Morgan as he sees her (through his prejudiced eyes), the altogether too beautiful but spoiled bitch (his words, not mine), whom he judges at first sight to his own detriment. Hunter has scars that has never truly healed from losing his best friend in Afghanistan, and he is dead set on remaining emotionally impervious to everyone he comes across, lest he has to put himself in a position of vulnerability all over again.

As a result, Hunter bristles at the sexual heat that ignites between him and Morgan from the start, an attraction that is so fierce that neither he nor Morgan is able to deny the strength of it which draws them together. Even as Hunter pulls back just as much as the orbit around Morgan reels him in, the more time he is forced to spend with Morgan, the more he realizes that in Morgan lies a woman of strength, beauty, brains, and the right touch of emotional vulnerability that he could definitely get on board with.

As the danger closes in on them and the story reaches its ultimate climax, revealing the villain to be someone too close to home for comfort, it is up to Hunter to decide whether he wants to fight to keep Morgan by his side as much as he fights to keep both of them alive during the mission, or walk away from the best thing that has ever happened to him in his lifetime.

I liked this story mostly because Hunter did not turn into an overly needy, clingy, and endearment pushing hero overnight. I so dislike romances where the hero is sold as someone who has emotional baggage, a reluctant hero, and resists getting close to anyone, and voila, by chapter two, he is totally into the heroine and calling her everything beautiful under the sun!

Hunter is a different breed, and he stays true to his convictions at the beginning, which begins to erode away bit by bit as he gets to know Morgan better, which is more realistic in my opinion. I liked Morgan too; she was feisty in a way that did not break the story but rather complemented what was unfolding and was exactly what Hunter needed. She knows when to push, when to give in, and when to walk away from something that is detrimental for her own good.

I must admit that some of the writing did feel a bit choppy and I did not appreciate the repetitive style by which it was reiterated over and over how sexy Morgan was, which I believe the readers got the memo of after the first two chapters. However, I am willing to overlook those bits because the story that unfolded was great in every other aspect. Just wish that the epilogue (which is published separately) was part of the book, which would have amped up the enjoyment factor that much more.

Recommend this for those who love romantic suspense novels set in the wilderness, with forced proximity playing its critical role in bringing two opposites together!

Final Verdict: The debut book in The Bodyguards of L.A. County starts out with a bang, bringing to readers two characters who seal the deal with the sizzle between them that scorches the pages through!

Rating = 4.25/5

Freaking LOVE this series! AND BOOK 1 AND 2 ARE AVAILABLE NOW! YES!

Just when I thought Ethan Cooke was all THAT! (I read book 2 first).

I loved every bit of of Morgan's Hunter. The moment Hunter is assigned to protect Morgan, the heat is on! Their first encounter immediately embarks on a love/hate relationship.

Hunter is in for one helluva mission when he realizes Morgan is not the snotty, rich daddy's girl he's used to babysitting. She knocks his socks off *make that his pants* with killer looks and one sweet little bod to go with her hot temper. She's determined, feisty, mouthy, and hell-on-wheels... and he's falling for her. Hard. And fast. And she's going to get them killed if she continues to disobey orders.

Feeling's mutual. Morgan cannot resist Hunter's sexy-as-hell appeal. But, his all-too-sudden mood swings have her doubting him. Her heart is in his hands and he doesn't even know it, and despite her best efforts to push him away, swallow her unwanted feelings, temptation is far too great. He pushes all the right buttons, and he pisses her off! She wants to hate him, but no matter how hard she tries, he always works his way back in, and Morgan doesn't want him there because that's not a direction she can protect herself from. And that's not an option she wants to take.

Discovering an illegal operation in the rocky regions where Morgan's best friend's lives were all-too-suddenly ripped away, they face the dangers that could ultimately destroy them both. Their lives are on the line, their hearts dithering, but when secrets are revealed, tempers boil out of control, and control is something Hunter cannot afford to lose. He will do whatever it takes, even if it means breaking her heart, and his, to save her life.

The journey to survive, the passion and heated scenes, to the slippery and rugged terrain, Morgan's Hunter is thrilling, stimulating, and electrifying with plenty of flame that begs you to keep reading!

I cannot say enough about The Bodyguards of L.A. County, other than... I WANT MORE! And I'm going to have it! Rumor has it, there are 4 books to the series (maybe more?)! And I want all of them! So good! You won't be disappointed!

4 Stars, 3 Flames
Hunter Phillips has known his share of pain. Watching his best friend die in battle and failing to bring his team home, he is not ready to let anyone else close. Hunter is now part of a security team that is known worldwide but he is bored of trailing rich brats around to ensure their safety. He dodges more flirtatious advances than bullets. When he meets Morgan he thinks it is going to be like the rest of his assignments. He quickly comes to realize there is more to Morgan than meets the eye.

What makes a great romantic suspense? You need strong characters, tragic circumstances, twists and turns, remote location, intense love/lust, and a villain who is determined to get what he wants. Morgan’s Hunter has this in spades. I will tell you that, literally, the first few chapters made me cry. The author really connects you to the characters and the situations they find themselves. You can feel the predators watching your every move as well as feel the adrenaline running through their systems and they evade capture and death.

Morgan is strong, independent, and completely unconcerned about Hunter’s brash attitude. Sure, she wishes he wasn’t so rude to everyone they come across. But his paranoia has saved her life more than once. She soon sees behind his ‘tude and starts to fall in love with his softer side. Hunter continues to push her away afraid he will fail her like he did Jake but this time he would not be able to recover from it.

In the end this book held me captive and I was able to finish it in less than 20 hours! I enjoyed it tremendously and I cannot wait to read the second book, Falling for Sarah, which will definitely have me balling like a baby!

I was gifted a copy of this novel from the JeepDiva in exchange for an honest review. The opinions and ratings are solely my own.

Morgan’s Hunter has given me good characters in both Morgan and Hunter along with tragic issues, twists and turns here and there, out of the way places, and I must not forget a bad guy. A bad guy with issues of his own. There was intense adrenaline through the building of the characters and getting to know them. There was an emotional connection there laid in the beginning few chapters.

Morgan was not your typical socialite. She had an opinion. She was strong, defined, intelligent, independent, worth something. She turned Hunter’s preconceived notions of a socialite on its head and rattled him a bit. Hunter was a hardened man with life and the circumstances of his current career choice. He has to come to terms with much.

I found both characters to bring something more to the table than what their first appearances dictated. There was ebb and flow to the suspense. An intrigue build to the romance with life and death situations being sprinkled here and there to keep them on their toes. In the end, I got myself a romantic suspense that would have me looking for more from this series and the author. This was my first read by Cate Beauman but not my last.

This is the first in a series and a new author for me. Hunter is a former marine, now working as a bodyguard for Ethan Cooke Security after an IED takes his best friend and his unit in Afghanistan. Morgan is a wildlife biologist who comes from a wealthy and powerful family in DC, and half her team is sent to Montana while she goes with the other half to another national park across the country. Tragedy happens and Morgan is determined to finish the assignment in Montana and the only way her father will allow that is if she agrees to a bodyguard. Morgan isn't happy and Hunter thinks she is probably just another rich socialite who will be whiny and out of her depth in the wild. Neither one of them really likes the other, but as the danger of their situation becomes more sinister, they must rely on each other to survive.
Fairly fast paced and intriguing, Morgan had a few TSTL moments especially when she deliberately went against Hunter's orders to keep her safe, but overall very enjoyable. Will be reading more of this series.

Who wouldn't love spunky Morgan and taciturn, but oh so hunky Hunter? Morgan has suffered a tragic loss. Her beloved friends were mysteriously killed while researching in a national park.

Hunter has also suffered tragic grief when his unit is ambushed in Afghanistan, resulting in the death of his best friend.

While Morgan frets about her missing friends, Hunter's only job is to keep Morgan safe. He does not share her enthusiasm for either wildlife studies nor snooping at the ranger station for clues. Neither can tolerate each other while being forced to live in close quarters.

Sparks fly as danger stalks, and Morgan finds out the hard way the depth of Hunter's protective feelings and how much he cares.

An exciting story of survival and healing with a healthy helping of sweet scenes. I especially love the tinfoil rings improvised from campground trash. An awesome debut novel from an author to look forward to.

Survivor's guilt. Our hero, Hunter, has it and our heroine, Morgan, has it to. Hunter was unable to save his best friend after an attack in Afghanistan. Morgan was on the Maine team while the Yellowstone team were murdered. Each carry the weight of losing their best friend and now Morgan is on a mission to complete the project that killed her friends. Hunter has been hired to protect her.

TSTL (to stupid to live) is what describes Morgan from the beginning. She wants to go the Yellowstone to complete the job when actually she wants to find the killer, alone. A wildlife biologist going after a murderer all by herself, yeah TSTL. And, this bodyguard with biceps bigger than his brain better not get in her way.

Morgan is drop dead gorgeous and strong willed and capable. Hunter is drawn to her, but resists. When they find the reason the tram was killed, he realizes that he can't lose her like he lost Jake.

Maybe 3.5 stars, but the heroine's TSTL moments (rather, attitude toward the task at hand) made me wonder what the hero saw in her. This is the first book in the series and the preview of coming stories look like better-executed plots than this one.

I usually give a series more than one chance before I decide whether to continue or to drop, so I'll look for Book #2, which has secondary characters from the first book as primaries.

A good way to spend a day reading some light romance. I didn't enjoy the language in the first chapter but the book improved a lot after that was finished. Being from a military family, I do appreciate the author's handling of a tough issue and incorporating it into contemporary fiction. Although the book is very predictable and follows the romance/suspense formula, it was a pretty good read.

I thought the plot of this book was pretty good. And it had enough action to keep me interested. However, the main characters were a little annoying and I really didn't care for either of them. Not sure I completely bought into their romance.

3.5 stars.
I liked the story. I liked hunter. I liked Morgan.
The only issue I had was that I didn't really feel the suspense..
