Hailey Roberts has never had it easy. Despite the scars of a tragic childhood, she’s made a life for herself. As a part-time student and loving nanny, she yearns for a family of her own and reluctant Austin Casey, Ethan Cooke Security’s best close protection agent.

Hailey’s past comes back to haunt her when her long-lost brother tracks her down, bringing his dangerous secrets with him. At an emotional crossroads, Hailey accepts a humanitarian opportunity that throws her together with Austin, taking her hundreds of miles from her troubles, or so she thinks.

What starts out as a dream come true quickly becomes a nightmare as violence erupts on the island of Cozumel. Young women are disappearing; community members are dying—and the carnage links back to her brother.

As Austin struggles to keep Hailey’s past from destroying her future, he’s forced to make a decision that could turn her against him, or worse, cost them both their lives.

Hailey Robert's lost her beloved foster parents when she was 14-years old. Her grief was compounded when the system separated her from her foster brother, Jeremy, and placed her with the foster parent from hell. She searched for him as soon as she left the system and now he's back in her life, sharing her apartment. Austin Casey, one of Ethan Cooke's agents and the object of Hailey's silent affection, knows Jeremy's bad news but Hailey has blind eyes when it comes to her brother.

I enjoyed the tense and suspenseful moments of the story, and there were many as it involved gangs and the Mexican Mafia. Hailey and Austin's fledgling romance was also entertaining, in spite of their fits and starts. But, it was really hard to get around Hailey's unending TSTL moments, especially near the end. They were epic. The strength of the story kept me in it, though and I probably should have a lower rating but I liked the book too much:)

Once again I can only emphasize on the fact that I enjoyed the overall plot of the story.
Hailey Roberts has had it hard but she has kept on the straight and narrow and is making something out of her life if it wasn’t for her brother Jeremy she wouldn’t be about to get into trouble.

Jeremy gets himself into a lot of trouble and pulls Hailey in with him. Hailey feels guilty after the accident and is trying to help Jeremy in the best way possible but she is so gullible it hurts.
Jeremy is using Hailey and the Project Mexico to push drugs for the Zulu’s they are the Mexican Mafia.

Austin Casey works for Cooke Security, a former Navy Seal he has skills.
Hailey has known Austin for three years and has silently swooned over him. He has feelings/desire for Hailey as well but keeps on calling her kid. When there are only a couple of years different.
I don’t know why Austin isn’t honest with Hailey and tells her the truth, I get he wants to protect her but it frustrated me so much and it seems to be common theme within the books.

I’m afraid with this book I’m going to have to down grade it from the 5 Stars to 3 Stars whereas the plot was really good, unique with suspense at the right places, well for me anyway. Hailey kind of did my nut in and even Austin couldn’t smooth it out. But he is amazing.

“In the end, it doesn’t matter, but I wanted you to know; I needed you to know because I read your text to Sarah. You told her I was everything you never thought you could have, and I’m telling you, you’re everything I never knew I wanted, but I’m so glad you’re here.”

I will continue with this series it hasn’t deterred me in anyway whatsoever.

I’m excited to be back with the hotties from Ethan Security and the sexy vixens they can’t resist in Hailey’s Truth by Cate Beauman. Cate is able to grab me from the beginning to very end, so I am very wager to get started.

If this is what social workers are like, I fear for the children in the system. I fear for Hailey and her ‘brother’ Jeremy.

Hailey was a foster child, hugely independent, reliable, loyal, giving, loving, strong and proud. She had found her forever home, even a little brother, until..

It wasn’t bad enough they lost their ‘parents’ now they’re losing each other. I feel bad things coming and it makes me sad.

Jeremy…What can I say? Sometimes nothing makes a difference. A bad penny is a bad penny. Would it have been different if they had stayed together? We will never know. Pisses me off that lies flow from him like water from a faucet, but that just shows how great Cate Beauman’s writing is, so real I feel like it is happening to me.

It’s very interesting that two people, who had to work so hard just to survive, can turn out so different. Some people are givers, some takers and the takers can suck the life right out of you.

Such a sweet moment when Austin is teaching Hailey to swim, innocent and sensual.

Love this line: “She was swimming with the next thing to a mythical sea god, and she sure as heck wasn’t a mermaid.” The water had always called to her, but that didn’t mean she was any good in it. I feel the same way. I love the water, like Hailey, so it helps me relate to her.

Drugs…Austin will be meeting the Mexican Mafia and I have a feeling Hailey will too. It’s a good thing Austin’s a badass because he’s gonna need to be. As the danger rises, so does Austin.

Hailey is committed to family, naive as to what’s right in front of her face. When or what constitutes crossing the line of trust? When do you just say no and set them free, to sink or swim on their own?

The Zulas, Mexican Mafia, are savages, brutal when betrayed. Not afraid of anything or anyone. To say they are dangerous is putting it mildly. Once in, only death gets you out. If a cop won’t work with them, not only with they callously take his life, but spread his body parts around to family and fellow officers.

I got all soft and gooey at the birthday party.

I love sexual tension between the characters as they get to know each other…the sensual glances and touches full of innuendo, from desire and denial, to push and pull, yes and no, keeping them on edge. Something as simple as washing dishes…he can look soooo sexy. I was laughing at the cake fiasco…until…Oh man, that’s so wrong.

“Mean are completely stupid..sometimes…most of the time.”

I do not like the word suckle when they are having sex. Makes me think of piglets. Numerous authors use it, but it’s just a little quirk of mine…don’t like it.

Additional touches with complex characters add the spice to the romance and suspense. The ladies console and talk things out. The men eat, step on their dicks and apologize profusely. Now that’s some hilarious and honest writing. LOL

Romantic suspense is pretty predictable, but it’s what the author twists and turns along the way that makes the story so interesting. I am most eager for the action and danger, and my emotions running hot. We have a good supply of all that, but I wanted more.

In Hailey’s Truth by Cate Beauman, I loved the story and the journey, but I didn’t quite get to shocked, and left gasping for breath. Never fear, we have more coming from Ethan Security and I will be looking for that in future books by Cate Beauman, because I have started and I will not stop…

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Hailey’s Truth by Cate Beauman.

My first book in this series and by this author. And I found it a nice and rather quick read.

The suspense part was quite interesting, though I should rather say an action part because there is no any investigation job and the villain is known from the very beginning.

I really liked Austin ans a hero. But I had a serious problem with Hailey. At some point she was really driving me mad. Her dumbness and naivety was so overwhelming, I just couldn't stand it any more. Well, I'm not really sure if I like Hailey at all. She is one of this weak heroines who need some strong hunk to care about them. She makes some really stupid things.

I hope that other heroines in other books of this series are stronger. I will probably come back to this series one day.

Hailey really started to get on my nerves. I felt like she was crying ALL THE TIME. I honestly don't know why Austin keep coming back, every time he found her she was crying. And every time Austin tried to say something about Jeremy or Donte, Hailey flipped and called him a liar. How did he put up with that crap for so long? After the hundredth time, I would have called Ethan up and asked to switch places with someone. That HAD to be frustrating... And it made her seem a little dumb. She had all the signs in front of her face but just didn't want to believe them.

Jeremy's POV was a little gory in the beginning. I understand why it was all put in the book but that wasn't something I really wanted to read.

I really liked Austin. I think Hunter and Ethan were very similar in personality and mannerisms and Austin was a little different. It was a bit refreshing. Austin really jumped into relationship mode once they got into Mexico and he got past his reasons for keeping her at arm's length. At first, it almost seems like he hooks up with her out of convenience for his job of keeping her safe but you know how he truly feels and that he isn't just messing with her.

Could not suspend belief enough

I have read the f oily rest two books and happily settled in with the third. What a huge disappointment. Hailey a child raised in the foster care system has created a great life for herself. Her foster brother has not done so well. As a plot twist I got it, but for Hailey to be so f*******g blind is just so unbelievable. It really ruined an otherwise very interesting character. I understand her guilt but the glossing over of such glaring facts. Ughh!
The ending makes no sense. Even when proven wrong, attempted rape and your brother admitting he is kidnapper and rapist!!! Then the hero just shows up weeks later, says he wants to marry her and all is solved. Really expected better.

I started this series a while ago and want to get more books off my Libby tbr so picked it up.
It had loads of action and the plot was a good one. Even the romance was good but I wanted more angst and the MMCs deliberate miscommunication with the FMC, along with her gullibility was annoying af. I get why he couldn’t tell her once it became too dangerous for her to know, but at the beginning he should have. Also, she’d just been told about the mafia boss, and instead of giving Austin the benefit of the doubt, she decides she knows better and basically goes to the lions den, or yacht in this case. Stupid h’s annoy me.
I will give this series another go because I really did like the first two books.

Okay, ignore the updates got books 3 and 4 conflagrated.

Hailey has had a hard life, born to a drug-addicted prostitute she was lucky to be fostered by a loving couple who gave her a great life until they were tragically killed in a car accident a week before her 15th birthday. Hailey's adopted parents had recently fostered a little boy, the two children survived the crash but were separated and put into care.

It's 10 years later, Hailey's the sometimes nanny to Sarah's daughter Kaylee. She's had the hots for Austin since book 1 or at least the start of book 2. Hailey is at college, studying I don't know what and has been selected to take part in Project Mexico for three months – Ethan's security firm has the contract to provide security to the team from the college for the duration. Hailey has reconnected with her brother and is desperately trying to get him to turn his life around. He has lived on the streets and been arrested for drug peddling – little does Hailey know his rap sheet is far worse.

Austin is very happy with his single man life, he doesn't want the settled down with two kinds and a white picket fence. He left home at 18 to join the Navy and as far as he is concerned he is living the high life. But he has been drawn to Hailey ever since he first met her – but he can see that she is looking for a husband and children, not to mention the fact that she is Ethan and Sarah's nanny.

Hailey's brother somehow (the details are vague) gets drawn into working for the Zulas (a Mexican Mafia) and Donte someone-or-another, the young and handsome leader of the gang/Mafia. There is a sketchily described plot involving expanding the drugs business through/into Cozumel which quite frankly I didn't understand but allegedly hinged on Hailey's being in Mexico for the college project which would act as a front!? I didn't understand why a member of the Mexican Mafia (can they be a Mafia if they are in Mexico?) would need to break into the Mexican market, or if it was to establish a route to the US, why he needed to be in Mexico.

Anyway, Hailey and Austin connect quite early on in the book – she's always at the house looking after Kaylee, he's always just hanging around waiting for orders. In a twist of fate they live in the same apartment building on the same floor. One day Austin hears Hailey's brother (who is sharing her apartment) in a fight – he hears the conversation and sees the guys as they leave Hailey's apartment. He realises that Hailey's brother is still involved in drug dealing and recognises the other men's tattoos as gang symbols. This sets up the whole non-suspense plot. Austin hears/sees something and concludes something (usually that Hailey's brother is b.a.d.). He either won't tell Hailey about it (for her own good – because she's a GIRL) or presents circumstantial evidence as proof. Hailey says "that doesn't prove anything" (and she's right) and he goes off into one (sorry, went a bit colloquial there) saying "you just won't see the truth when it's right in front of you". Over and over and over again.

I just wanted to bang their heads together!

Hailey finally accepts "proof" that her brother is a b.a.d. man who works for a very bad man when the dean shows her a copy of his police record showing he has more than just a minor drugs offence. Just as she is about to leave the island she decides to go to the very bad man's yacht to "tell her brother off". Even though she is booked on a flight (the timing in the book appears to slip a bit here because she sends a text from the dinghy taking her from the yacht which is received by the rest of the team at the airport as her flight is boarding – she could never have made that plane even if things hadn't gone wonky!) that is leaving ANY MINUTE. This is the point that I decided she was TSTL.

Ethan was the least objectionable of the heroes to date. Apart from his inability to distinguish facts/proof from shocking coincidence/circumstantial evidence.

I am starting the next one but only because it is the last one on my Kindle and I'll be *&%!ed if I'll let them defeat me.

Ever since I read ‘Falling For Sarah’ in July of this year, I’ve been completely hooked to Cate Beauman’s The Bodyguards of L.A. County series. Seriously I can’t stop reading these books! I’ve read five of the books now, and I’m reading them completely out of order. But that’s definitely part of what makes this series so good. I’ve been wanting to read Hailey and Austin’s story ever since I read ‘Falling For Sarah’, so when I was finally able to I started reading as fast as I could.

In ‘Hailey’s Truth’ we read Hailey’s story. Hailey is a twenty five year old who didn’t have an easy child hood. Growing up as a foster child, and losing the only parents she ever knew when she was only fourteen years old definitely made growing up hard. But now things are finally looking up for Hailey. She has close friends she sees as family, a good job, and she is soon going to Mexico for a final school project. If only Austin, her handsome friend could see her as more as just a ‘kid’, than her life would be perfect.

‘Hailey’s Truth’ was definitely as good as I hoped it would be. A lot of romance and definitely a lot of thrilling and exciting moments. This book definitely kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning till end. What I liked the most about ‘Hailey’s Truth’ was definitely the chemistry between Hailey and Austin. It was definitely flying of the pages and I was totally rooting for them. They were just so good for each other. And I loved reading about their thoughts about one another. The two point of views were definitely so much fun to read.

Hailey’s character was definitely a nice one. On the one hand she was this nice, kind and strong woman who survived a hell of a lot of bad to get where she is now. But on the other hand she had these real insecurities I could totally understand.
Austin really had this mysterious feel about him. You know he had a nice childhood, a rough past in the Navy and there isn’t a lot you know him besides that. I loved that part. But most of all I loved how sweet and passionate he was about Hailey.

This book didn’t only have a great romance, but there were definitely also a lot of moments that it was just so thrilling to read this book that I didn’t know what to do with myself. The Mexican mob? Really Cate? I almost couldn’t handle the thrilling moments at times.

‘Hailey’s Truth’ was definitely another great book in the series. And even after reading five of the books.. I still can’t get enough and can’t wait to read the next one.

Hailey's got big trouble, only she's too blinded by guilt to see it. Austin knows the score, but he's afraid Hailey would push him away. Both of the characters are young and hyper emotional. They swing between blaming the other and shutting off their feelings.

The danger surrounding them is very real and frightening. Austin tries to protect Hailey, but she refuses to believe the truth about her brother and his associates.

In a tightly knit plot full of cruel and vicious scenes, Hailey wanders in a haze of charitable feelings for the main villain, believing him to be a good-natured philanthropist, while Austin fights to control his feelings for Hailey.

The ending for this fast paced book is explosive and unforgettable with a dangerous and thrilling covert rescue operation.

I liked this book - although I thought Hailey's blind trust in someone she just met over the man who has been in her life for years was a little far fetched. I get that she wanted to protect her brother and that would cause some friction between her and Austin, but at some point you've got to get a clue. Also, I though Austin let a prime opportunity to show Hailey the truth after he was led into that trap at the apartments. She was clearly scared for him and would have at least listened to what he had to say if it was shown how his life had been put at risk. Her belief in Donte over Austin though was a really hard to believe and frankly I thought less of her for it.

Hailey Roberts is the part time nanny for Ethan and Sarah Cooke. She grew up in the foster system along with her brother Jeremy. Jeremy has definitely pulled the wool over Hailey's eyes and promises her he has changed his ways and she believes him even when she shouldn't. This was a little irritating but the over story of Hailey and Austin was better. Hailey was just a little to naive and forgiving for someone who should be more jaded given her experiences growing up and she is more suspect of Austin than of Jeremy. It was nice to get Austin's back story and there was lots of action to keep me interested.

Hailey's adventure

Hailey has been a supporting character in the first two books so it was nice to see her come centre stage in this book based in California and Mexico.
Hailey's at college in the final year of her hard earned degree and is volunteering for a humanitarian program in Mexico. She had a hard life in foster care and has only just connected again with her brother Jeremy, who unfortunately hasn't fared as well since their parents died in an accident.
Austin has liked Hailey since he met her, so as a 'bodyguard' to the university group in Mexico means he and Hailey can explore their feelings. Of course the path of true love never runs smoothly and for Hailey betrayal, fear and nightmares becomes reality while she works in the aid program.
This is a really good book, I enjoyed it especially as the naivety of Hailey is so well written.

Honestly this was my least favorite of the Bodyguards series so far. And that leaves me with a strange feeling. I liked the book but there were too many instances that required me to ignore reality. Minor spoiler here but after Hailey figured out who Donte was and what her brother was capable of, why on Earth would she go further down in the depths of the yacht? I'm sorry but when you're in that kind of danger and your life is on the line, you will try anything to escape - not put yourself further into the lion's den.

Having said that, I do like that there was closure in this book - to the point where an epilogue wasn't really needed. And actually, I liked the book overall. I just wasn't crazy about all of the unrealistic instances that occurred. Still, I'll be moving on to book #4...

I’m a complete mess! I just finished this book and ugly cried more than once. This is a highly emotional one! Hailey and Austin have been “friends” for years as they both worked for the Cooke’s. She is the nanny and college student and he is a bodyguard at Ethan’s company. They both have crushes on each other but things change when they each vacation in Cozumel before a three month university program in the same country. Austin will be there to provide security. Things are great until Hailey’s brought ends up at the same resort. Austin knows he’s bad news but Hailey can’t see it. She’s also impressed with his boss (who happens to be a dangerous mob leader). There is tons of action, suspense, deception, heartbreak and love.

Very frustrating that heroine was so utterly blind to her brother's criminal activity. I've tried reading 3 books by this author & looks like she purposely makes one or more of her main characters foolish & unlikable, which ruins the stories for me. I'm done wasting my time.

Hailey Roberts survived foster care and miraculously blossomed into a responsible woman with her head on straight, worthy of becoming Sarah and Ethan’s nanny. When her brother walks back into her life, Hailey’s friends, seeing him for what he is, send her away on a vacation where things dangerously heat up.

Cate Beauman has done it again. Just like the other books in this series, this was a page-turner which I thought about when I had to put this down. There were scenes of action, graphic at times, but ultimately this was more romance than thriller. Sickening and appalling at all the right times, I was not as creeped out by the crimes and criminals as I was in Falling for Sarah but still on the edge of my seat until the end.

I loved how this book explains so neatly how Hailey was able to previously hole up at Ethan’s for months at a time so easily. I loved Austin. I loved getting to know his character better. True to previous books in this series, he was still the same Austin and yet, there was definitely more to him. With such a serious character, hats off to the author on this! I absolutely, unequivocally loved, loved, loved the dramatic pull and struggle within Austin. There might be readers annoyed by the taunting tirades and innocence displayed within as well as between characters, but, for me, this was so cleverly written and perfectly captured, I enjoyed it.

Overall, this was well-written. This gripping tale had a solid beginning, good building of characters as well as suspense and an explosive ending that was everything it should have been. The flip-flopping points of view instead of true third person story-telling was still apparent but improved. Dialogue was good although at times I was confused about who was speaking and had to reread sections a few times to figure it out. I wondered if actual Spanish would have improved scenes, but maybe not. Ethan’s management of the security of everyone, especially his nanny, was uncharacteristic of him and could have been explained a little better. Technological aspects also could have been better – the video baby monitor, scuba night vision, etc.

All in all, this was an amazing book. If you can’t handle severed body parts or decapitations, rape, swearing like a sailor (Hey, Austin’s a Navy SEAL, guys!), or quite explicit sex scenes, perhaps this is not for you. This book has it all. With graphic violence, sex, profanity and coarse language, I recommend this book for select mature adult audiences only.
