The enneagram is for all of us who care to grow past our protections and extend grace to people we previously haven’t understood. It’s a very healing framework that brings unending applications.

Really great insights here beyond the basics on the enneagram. I listened to this book in audio format and it was available through my library via Libby. I have done quite a bit of reading and studying of the Enneagram as a tool for personal (and interpersonal) growth insight and yet this one brought me things I have not heard before. In 1988, Helen co-founded the Narrative Enneagram School with David Daniels, MD, of Stanford University. While this book was a little bit difficult to listen to because of her “academic sounding” affect, I was able to get used to that and hear her content and I’m so glad I did. She presents every personality type with an even appreciation and no hints of condescension for any type. While most people will say that all the types are equal, many seem to use a derogatory tone in reference to the types at times. She explains our blind spots very well. She does include some simple workshop activities, which are very helpful in understanding what she’s trying to convey. I don’t love the names/protection labels for all of the types (Devil’s Advocate, Sloth, Gluttony) but agree they help us see our blind spots and appreciate the spirit in which the information is given. I found this a great resource even if not all is listened to from front to back. Started my second listen through already though.
