After coming out to the whole school, Brad Greymark and Kyle Stilleno could use some downtime. They should be studying, but soon their focus wanders to the pursuit of the impossible. Together, they just might find where they belong.
John Goode is a member of the class of '88 from Hogwarts school of wizardry, specializing in incantations and spoken spells. At the age of 14 he proudly represented District 13 in the 65th Panem games where he was disqualified for crying uncontrollably before the competition began. After that he moved to Forks, Washington where, against all odds, dated the hot, incredibly approachable werewolf instead of the stuck up jerk of a vampire but was crushed when he found out the werewolf was actually gayer than he was. After that he turned down the mandatory operation everyone must receive at 16 to become pretty citing that everyone pretty were just too stupid to live before moving away for greener pastures. After falling down an oddly large rabbit hole he became huge when his love for cakes combined with his inability to resist what sparsely worded notes commanded and was finally kicked out when he began playing solitaire with the Red Queen's 4th armored division. By 18 he had found the land in the back of his wardrobe but decided that thinly veiled religious allegories where not the neighbors he desired. When last seen he had become obsessed with growing a pair of wings after becoming obsessed with Fang's blog and hasn't been seen since.
Or he is this guy who lives in this place and writes stuff he hopes you read.
“You’re so cute when you're angry,” he said, smiling, enjoying the way Kyle's cheeks blushed at the compliment.
“I'm not a nerd,” he protested as he buried his face in the other boy's chest.
“Yes you are,” Brad said as he slipped his hands under Kyle's ever- present gray hoodie and felt the warmth of bare skin on his fingertips.
Kyle looked up in protest, and Brad added in a whisper, “But you're my nerd.”
Short and simple, any yet surprisingly soft in showing how it never hurts To Wish for Impossible Things because you never know that they might just come true. Even a month into their relationship, Brad and Kyle are still ridiculously smitten with each other - young and in love, what could be better? 🥹 I loved the tender and playful way in which Brad teased Kyle into abandoning his work to have a little fun with me. If you know what I mean? 😉
It was even nicer to see how one simple question posed by Kyle propelled Brad to reveal a little bit about his troubled past in sports. 🥺 It was something I wasn't quite expecting, but it gave me a fresher perspective on who Brad was as a character. I also liked how it tied into where they were now as a couple -'Pray for the impossible. Pray that you will end up where you need to be.' Kyle's reaction to his story - yeah, they're definitely in love, no question. 🤍 A light-hearted read that gives you a warm feeling that though, their journey ahead may be difficult - trust me, it is! 🥺 - together they'll be able to make it work.
And the ending is so ridiculously cheesy, but is still a adorable homage to both the title and the piece of himself that Kyle was so thankful that Brad shared with him. Plus, if you saw me grinning like a Cheshire cat, then shh no, you didn't. 🥰
“Brad grinned and responded with, "And I think it's working for a whole other reason.”
“Are you calling me a nerd?” he asked after a second. “No. If I was calling you a nerd, I'd say nerd. I'm calling you one of those pointy-eared guys,” Brad clarified. “Vulcans?” Grinning insufferably as he looked at the blond-haired boy who had stolen his heart, Brad closed the trap. “Nerd.” Kyle dropped the book and declared war simultaneously. Laughing, he landed on top of his boyfriend.
They were still a month away from baseball season, but it was painfully obvious that neither one of them was going to be able to just walk back into their old lives and have things be the way they used to. Not that either one really wanted to. ---
A nice little interlude with our boys :) It was good to re-visit them after a long (for me) absence. After I got my KindleForPC app, I snapped these up and hope to work my way through these little stories as well as the books this year.
The story Brad share behind the necklace was very touching, and we get to see a lovely moment between Brad and his mother... Still want to kick his Father.
Cute moments between Brad and Kyle at the beginning at the story too :)
Would recommend, something to whet your appetite till you read the next installment.
John Goode entered my list of favorite authors last year, when he captured my heart by introducing Brad and Kyle, two amazing teenagers from Foster High School. After that, John continues to charm me (and his other fans) with stories after stories that are heartwarming and beautiful.
In this FREE short story that John dedicates to "His Fans Only", he once again shows his ability to pull on my heart strings with less than 5,000 words. We finally find out what the crafted silver rose -- which hangs in the end of silver chain -- that Brad wears means. We also get a glimpse about Brad's childhood and his first met with (not so much a jerk back then) his (ex) best friend, Kelly.
However, it is the meaning of that silver rose that will definitely makes your eyes tear-up a bit. And this reader, once again is left speechless with John Goode's artistry in writing a thoughtful issue in subtle and quiet words but still punches you in the solar plexus efficiently *sniff*. I am in love with these boys.
“Pray for the impossible ... pray that you will end up where you need to be.”
PS: Perfect 5-stars not only for story but for it being generously free.
Free, sweet little story about Brad and Kyle. Brad is sharing a part of his childhood. I liked it, but it didn't blew me away. As part of the whole, a good addition to the rest of the story.
So I had been holding on to this one...and when I began to read it I understood why...I had no idea that this tiny story would reveal so much about Brad. I thought I knew him so well, had heard all that character had to offer thus far..I was...smug. Then this little chapter blew me away. It took me right back to high school and those post party moments when you sat with a close friend and all of a sudden they revealed something so personal--so intense. And for just a second reading John Goode's tiny sip of a story I remembered how special it felt to be that person. You know--the one you would confide in...would trust enough to give a piece of yourself to in that moment.
You see it wasn't so much what was revealed in this story that is important--it is that Brad chose to give it to Kyle. That he loved him so much that he knew Kyle could carry it for him--with him...and understand how important it was to him.
That's what this .5 moment was all about--the next step in their relationship--the next rung on the ladder to understanding...to falling further in love.
Lovely little shortie novella in the Foster High series. The blossoming relationship between Kyle and Brad is continuing apace, and in this novella we discover why Brad still wears a necklace with a rose pendant, the rose which stands for Saint Rita, the patron saint of the impossible...as well as abused women, marital problems and mothers!! 5 stars from me.
This short story offers a glimpse into Brad's past. It felt like such an intimate moment between Kyle & Brad, and it showed how much their relationship grew.
I am in love with these boys and John Goode's writing!!! Thank you, dear John, for offering this beautiful story for free!
It was only recently that I read the first three books in the series, 'Tales from Foster High', by John Goode. I fell 100 percent in love with the main characters and the stories. The writing captured and entranced me, so it should come as no surprise to anyone that I wanted to jump into reading anything more from this world. 'To Wish for Impossible Things' is a very short read that brings me back to Kyle and Brad. And, for me, any opportunity to read about these incredible young men is a huge bonus.
It was really great to get more background on Brad, his relationship with his dad, and how Brad met Kelly while trying out, at his dad's insistence, for Pop Warner football when he was eight. Seeing that horrible day in Brad's memories, the way his father treated him after, the fight his parents had, and the loving mother-son moment, was perfect. Watching Brad share all of this with Kyle, and explain why he still wears the necklace his mom gave him all those years ago, brought a tear to my eye.
A wonderful, short addition to the series, that I would've loved to have more of.
NOTE: This book was provided by Harmony Ink Press for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews
Don’t miss this free short story that offers fans of the series a glimpse into Brad’s past as he explains to Kyle the sentimental value of his necklace with the dangling rose charm. It’s a touching story and one that provides more depth of character to Brad’s mom. What a special treat!
It’s nice to see Brad and Kyle sharing such a playful and intimate moment.
Aussie Time: C'mon! It's been October 1st for HOURS here! Catch up Northern Hemisphere!
Once the rest of the world caught up: This was fantastic! I adore these boys and they have matured so much right before our eyes. It's a beautiful story that Brad shares with Kyle and gives us a bit of a look at Brad's relationship with his parents. Loved it!
A great update on the series. I really liked it and found myself happy at the pace of the relationship between the boys. John Goode has a really good series and I hope that he continues writing their story. I have read the other 3 Tales From Foster High and I plan to read other releases. I would love to see a longer book written. For now this was an appreciated update on the story. :)
Brad is sharing a story with Kyle from when he was 11. Trying out for the football team. Not because Brad wants to tryout, but because his dick of a dad wants to. During the tryouts he meets for the first time. We get a glimpse of Brad's mother caring for him. And he gives him a necklaces which is on the cover of this book.
This is a very sweet, short and emotional look at Brad and Kyle in a stolen moment. We learn a bit more about Brad and his backstory, filling in his character more completely. And Kyle gains a relationship moment that is heartwarming. A lovely little free addition to the series.
I am reviewing as a standalone short story, as I have not read the prior books in the Tales from Forster High series.
This is a sweet short story that is well-written and held my interest. It is also free, which is generous of the author, and I feel deserves a thank-you as well.
The story line revolves around the mystery of a little silver rose on the end of a chain that hangs on Brad’s neck. Through flashbacks that are written in an active, engaging tone, we learn what the significance of the rose means. It’s both a sweet and sad story, and I’d recommend it. I especially think this story would be a wonderful one to read if you have read the previous books.
The best thing about reading this story for me was it gave me the urge to know more, and to want to go back and read the story of how Brad and Kyle met. I think their story would be fun and interesting to take part in.
