A stirring tribute to Harry Kalas, the voice of the Philadelphia Phillies from 1971 until his sudden passing in 2009, this work captures the spirit of the man who became as synonymous with the city of Philadelphia as a Mike Schmidt home run, a cheesesteak sandwich, or the Liberty Bell. Remembering Harry Kalas includes stories about the longtime Phillies voice from a who’s who of national figures and people who were close to the late broadcaster, including Schmidt, Kalas’s family, Tim McCarver, Curt Smith, Phillies president David Montgomery, Ryan Howard, Mike Piazza, and many others. It is the definitive book about one of the most memorable personalities in the City of Brotherly Love.
A good book about the voice of the Philadelphia Phillies. It contains stories from people from all walks of life. Players, fans, coworkers and many many others
It was a bit disappointing. There could have been a lot more diversity in the stories told. It seemed like everyone had the same HK stories that were told second hand. And one of the most interesting stories -- why Harry was kept from the back of the plane-- was never told it detail. It was more like vaguebooking. It's sad because this was a great personality who touched the soul of perhaps the nation's most fical city and so much more could have been done. And what was with the random footnotes?
A life long Phillies fan, I grew up listening to Harry Kalas. I was disappointed by how redundant the stories were in this book. I found myself skimming the stories instead of being invested in them. This book could have been much better.
