Raspberry Pi in easy steps is written to guide anyone new to computer programming, including children and students, through setting up and programming their new Raspberry Pi.
I really enjoyed this book and found it particularly easy to understand. I loved the detail it went to about Python, and only wish I hadn't had to read it so quickly (due back at the library) as I would have loved to have tried out some of the programming.
The only part of the book that I felt let it down was at the beginning when it talks about getting the SD card set up: whilst the instructions for windows users are good, for people using Linux or Mac OS X the author just says "use the dd command". I ended up using the internet for help in setting up my SD card, but for everything else the book was fantastic.
I think that the overall format of the book is good, and it is helpful.
The problem with this book is that it was published in 2013, and much of the information is outdated and no longer correct. This is especially true of the software and applications side of the device.
If you are trying to learn about Raspberry Pi, find a book that has been published in the last couple of years. Since the Raspberry Pi 5 was introduced in the fall of 2023, you probably want to find a book that has been published since then.
