Around the world, murderers and rapists pick off the innocent. Killing loved ones, separating families, and ruining lives.
As an eight-year-old girl, Ocean witnessed her family’s massacre and something altered inside her. Twisting her genetic code… unlocking an ability to teleport.
Ocean Breeze was never destined to be normal, especially having been named after air-freshener. She’s a shadow, a ghost—a dark saviour of the innocent. Armed with a switchblade in her bra, and a box-cutter in her pocket, she hunts the filth of the world.
Callan Bliss is a Sydney police officer whose skill-set is far above that of a normal cop. All his fellow officers see is a hard worker who loves to catch perpetrators and surf, but that’s because they don’t know about his past. When Callan arrests a suspicious-looking prostitute, he comes face-to-face with a self-confessed vigilante, and suddenly, his secrets aren’t so easy to keep silent.
Ocean hates the police with a passion, and has no intention of being held captive by a cop, even if he is sexy as hell. Teleporting from under his nose, Ocean hunts her next target—a man responsible for the largest sex ring in South Africa—and now he’s about to die. But she doesn’t count on Callan giving chase, nor the body-quaking lust that consumes them. However, Ocean's dark hobbies take precedence over what her heart wants—her thirst for murdering is killing her too, and not even Callan can save her.
Jade Hart is a self-confessed book worm who is happiest glued to a lap-top with an eternal battery life and typing up stories running rampant in her head.
She currently resides in Middle-Earth, but has lived in Australia, England, and Hong Kong.
Ocean Breeze is unprepared for the turn her life is about to take when she gets arrested. She has only ever let one person into her heart and she is not interested in allowing anyone else access. But when she stumbles onto a sex ring and knows she is the only hope the victims have she could be forced to open her heart.
Ocean is a unique character. She has endured the unthinkable and survived. Not only did she survive, but she developed a unique power that has helped her turn her focus to vigilante work making sure others do not have to face the same devastation she faced. While she has sworn off all connections and ties to people around her she has underestimated her need for them.
Callan is a cop who dislikes having to work within certain parameters while the criminals he is after ignore rules all together. Ocean gets under his skin more than anyone he has ever met before. While he agrees with Ocean’s reasons for doing what she does, he also worries about her more than he thought possible.
Jade writes such beautiful descriptions and really brings the world of her stories alive. She truly knows how to keep readers on the edge of their seats wondering what will happen next.
If you’re looking for a good, dark adult book full of suspense and romance this is definitely the book for you. You won’t be sorry you read this. Don’t forget to stay tuned for Jade’s other book, Samsara, coming soon from Curiosity Quills. Another excellent book you won’t want to miss.
Ocean Kills pulled me in right away with relentless action and compelling main characters.
The vigilante Ocean Breeze is much more deadly than her tongue-in-cheek, air freshener name suggests. She is complex, strong character who is easy to root for despite the fact that she kills men as easily as I kill spiders (maybe more easily). The romance between her and Callan - a sexy, smart, likable, tanned Aussie hero - is delectable. Callan is a good man through and through, and a perfect match for Ocean. I sat on the edge of my seat as I followed Ocean putting herself in peril to save innocents and, cheered for her when she slaughtered evil men, and felt happy for her when she brought down her walls enough to let Callan in. I look forward to seeing more from debut author, Jade Hart.
Breathtaking descriptions of some of the most intriguing places on Earth collide with action packed teleporting, vigilante justice, and HOT AS HELL Callan. Love this book and I can't wait to see what happens next.
This gritty new adult read is sexy and fierce, and it will not disappoint! You want a wild ride, a kickass heroine, and a smexy hero from down under this one is your read :)
Ocean Kills is sexy - smexy, funny and incredible thrilling book debiut by Jade Hart
Ocean Kills is the first book in the Ocean Breeze series by Jade Hart and an amazing new adult novel. I had the opportunity to read the ARC of "Ocean Kills" which made my day a lot of more enjoyable than I thought it could turn out to be. Actually when I got an e-mail from the author with attached ebook I screamed in joy and started reading it immadiately. Who cared about history exam, which in fact I probably failed? Freaking no one. Espacially not me. I read it almost all night, muttering to myself I’ll read only one more chapter, one more… and ended reading it to the very last page. Do you guys know that feeling, when your eyes are burning and you’re so freaking tired you cannot think straight but still on your face is this psycho grin? I went to school and slept in my lessons, but that didn’t really matter! History exam could take me down to the hell, and still I wouldn’t regret it.
„My name is Ocean Breeze. Yep. Ocean freakin' Breeze. It was my mom's attempt at some posh-sounding name. She was inspired by—get this—a bottle of toilet air-freshener”
Ocean Kills is a story about 24 year old Ocean Brezze, who’s family were murdered on here eyes when she was only a little girl. She was raped by the same two men who have done it. And this incident ruined her life. From that moment she wanted only venegance. The strange ability to teleport made it a lot of easier. Ocean started to kill everyone who hurt other people. Killing become her obsession. She was like a freaking Robin Hood in skirt with a knife instead of bow! Ocean was intense, kick ass character with witty sense of humor and let’s underlined it she liked to castrate men. Yeah. I kind of flipped when I read that she actually, you know, cut of some guy’s dick. I’d live without this little detail (hmm… I kind of hope it was little…). But her life was married only to the Job she done, to the moment when she was arrested, becouse of prostitution. Let’s only say that meeting sexy smexy cop began new set of problems for Ocean. Now, she didn’t want to get away from pair of handcuffs, she wanted Officer Bliss to used them on her… ‘Stop that, Ocean. You're dirtier than a truck driver.” Yeah , Ocean better stop that, becouse I’m starting to be dirtier than you and that truck driver!
Oh my Gods! I loved everything in this book. Seriously, can’t wait to read second one and see a lot more of Callan, hot-as-fuck, Officer Bliss. „Him! Oh my God. Him”
When Ocean Breeze (yes, that is her real name!) was eight years old she witnessed the extremely brutal murder of her family. Something about the torment and torture she endured altered something inside of her. The ability to teleport was unlocked in her. Since then she has worked to keep the type of people that killed her family off the streets. She stalks and kills the men that murder and rape and then teleports out of the scene. But killing comes with a price. With every life she takes she becomes less herself. She becomes cold and uncaring. Ocean knows that killing these men will eventually kill her very soul, but she feels she owes it to the would-be victims of these monsters, and she's unwilling to stop.
What I Liked:
* I love Ocean's character. She truly believes in what she does. She's ruthless and angry, but she does what she does to save people. Although she doesn't always make the right choices, her heart is in the right place.
* Callan Bliss...Aussie. Blonde. Surfer. Cop. Do I really need to go on?
* The chemistry between Ocean and Callan...holy smokes! Hot!
* Maurice Green is like a father to Ocean. He found her on the street and took her in. He has some secrets still left untold, but it's obvious how much he adores Ocean. He supports her decision to hunt and kill monsters, but he doesn't necessarily agree with her. I love how supportive he is even though it breaks his heart.
* The story: I love the story! Victim turned vigilante killer goes after sex trafficing ring...action, adventure and revenge. It's a great plot.
What I Disliked:
* Ocean Kills is a long book! I usually like a good long story, but with this one I felt like a lot of it dragged a bit. Several times I found myself saying, "What?! Where did that come from?" Big sections of the book had no significance to the full story and could have been cut. It would have helped with the overall flow.
* Way too many quirky cliched sayings!
Overall:
Ocean Kills was a very enjoyable read. It kept me up until the early morning hours, and that is the evidence of a great story for me. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. Everything you are about to read is my full and honest opinion about the book!
Wow First and foremost I have to give praise to author for creating such an AMAZING book, I LOVED IT! This books was nothing like I expected it to be, it was so much better! The book was fast-paced and kept my attention easily! I enjoyed this book from start to finish! This was a great ride!
This book follows a girl named Ocean Breeze. When she was very young, at the age of eight-years-old she witnessed something devastating, something that changed her life forever! She was present while her family was massacred! This truly did a toll on the young child and something inside of her changed! Something she couldn't understand! She unlocked something deep inside of her that she never knew existed! After seeing her families deaths she was able to teleport. And She was changed forever...
Now Ocean Breeze is not the child she once was! She is a saviour for the innocent! All around the world terrible things are happening. People are being murdered, raped, a torn from their loved ones arms. And their is no since of hope, no rescue. That is until Ocean beings ridding the earth of all the evil, of the ones that kill and torture for pleasure! She kills the ones that are responsible for hurting others! Ever since her families deaths Ocean has became a different person. A person with purpose! She is bound and determined to find the ones responsible for her families death. The ones that she watched murder her family and took them from her forever! She wants them to have the same fate that they gave her family, and she will stop at nothing until she finishes what she started!
I mean come on doesn't that sound good! It was AMAZING! I give this book and EASY 5 stars!
From my wonderful critique partners who made this book what it is today. I couldn't have done it without them, and here is what they have to say about Ocean Kills:
"Having so much trouble sleeping and I can blame it all on Jade because Ocean Kills is so freakin' fantastic and I couldn't put it down, and now can't stop thinking about the story." Devin, Cairo, 15 Aug '12
"Holy Mother of God my writerly friend, I thought I'd read a little on my lunch break and couldn't stop. Love it. Love it. Can't say enough good things about it. The only bad thing was the end as I wanted more. Sign me up to the Callan Bliss fan club!" Chrissie, Sydney, 18 Sep '12
"Loved Ocean so freakin' much. This book is amazing. I have 50 pages left and I'm already sad it's almost over. Love it." Amber, USA, 01 Sep '12
"Girl, I am reading your book fast, 'cause it's damn good. This is in my top 10 books for the year - it's stella." Victoria, USA, 30 Sep '12
"Callan's hot and there was an instant connection ;)but Ocean, with her back story and everything that she went through, really had me rooting for her. I never once questioned why she choose a certain path, everything she did made perfect sense. Even after I finished reading she was on my mind, thinking about what hell you'll put her through next. You did an amazing job with her, she's an awesome, kickass character" Theresa, USA, 30 Nov '12
I would love to know what you as the reader thinks! Thanks for reading Ocean and Callan's story.
I received a free ecopy of this book in a giveaway and only managed to read it recently. Why I waited so long I have no idea!
I haven’t read such an exhilarating book in quite some time. However, I did think there were more details of the romance and love-making between Ocean and Callan than I would have cared to know, but the adventure and surprising twists balanced it well.
I rarely read about teleporting and found that to be an interesting concept in Ocean Kills. A lot of ethical questions were raised in my mind throughout the story. What makes killing ‘right’ or wrong? Is it better to purge the world of evil using somewhat brutal methods or should you trust in the law to dish out the appropriate punishments? Most importantly though, is there hope for Ocean?
I cannot wait to read the next in this series. I want to know more about these black marks, whether there are others out there similar to Ocean , and more about the true identity of Maurice.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
God, this book was...beyond awesome. The teleporting assassin concept was a new one and a very well done one as well. Even thought it's the first book and it's not really explained in depth, there are hints as to it's origin and I can tell it's gonna get complicated.
I liked how the romance developed, even though Callan was a bit too overprotective it still worked somehow for this, probably cause Ocean doesn't take any of his crap xD
I would like to know more about those marks and how badly it affects Ocean. The only thing I had a bit of a problem with was how Ocean kept assuming things about their relationship and kept trying to runaway to protect him, but it wasn't as bad as in other books, cause at least Ocean actually has a valid reason, what with her marks and mental health.
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a great New Adult UF/PN book.
I'm glad I picked this book up. At first I thought it was near 400 pages, but that was just other stuff towards the end. Still, the book had a good length to it to be able to develop a well written story. It wasn't rushed at all. I ended up loving it. Loved the characters.
Can't wait to get my hands on book 2 and 3! I hope she comes out with those quickly because really need more of Officer Bliss :0) I really liked the plot line of this story. It was very interesting & different. And I need more of Officer Bliss ;)
OH & I'm glad there was enough scenes to make me happy & that it's "New Adult" vs. YA. This was a kick ass book. Did I mention that I really want book 2 & 3 asap? I mean, I'll settle for Officer Bliss & a pair of his handcuffs... *fans myself*
AND the author lives in Middle Earth *snorts* I'm a loyal fan through and through now :0)
Ocean Kills will take you to places you've heard of and have always wanted to go, for reasons you hope you never have to encounter. Ocean is a raw and believable character, conflicted over her past, present and future. With Jade Hart's well written words you will be witness to the most beautiful locations, the most horrendous people, and one of the sexiest male leads. Callan's stubbornness is perfect for Ocean's conflict and makes you root for them that much more.
You must read this book. But I warn you, after you're finished you'll be obsessed with when the next book in the series comes out.
I just wasn't sure this book was for me. I like paranormal books, but they are hit or miss to me. This one started off a bit confusing to me as it flipped between characters every chapter, not giving me enough time to really connect with them at first. But then, it hit it's stride, and BLEW ME OUT OF THE WATER. What a fantastic concept. I was so sucked in that I could think of nothing else. Now, I have read three books since finishing this one and still can't stop thinking about Ocean and Callan. I cannot wait for the next installment of these fascinating characters.
This book was so intense! I'd seriously be up all night reading, then dreaming about it. Jade Hart has a wonderful way with words. With her visuals, she pulls you right in the story with the characters, making you gasp, cringe, and even blush ;)
I loved this book. It's one I'll read multiple times :)
A beautiful, fast-paced journey between a woman who wants to save the world and a guy who wants to save her. Steamy, adrenaline-pumping, emotional--so good! A MUST READ!
First, I'm going to give you a little warning, this is not going to be a "normal" review from me, and I maybe should give you a heads up about mature content... This book has had a deeply personal connection. This is a very not so happily ever after story for a good part. It's a very real, very hard, but very much needed story about sexual abuse and how downright terrible the human race can be, but I'm so glad it's being shared! I've decided that this story, although hard to think about, is devastatingly, mind blowingly beautiful!! Before I say anything else, Ocean is a hero to me, because I understand exactly why she wants to save every last one! There are some people who truly are saviors to those who go through something like that, and I've completely understood each thought Ocean had. I completely bow to those who have overcome hardships of this circumstance, and I'm very much Team Ocean Breeze!!! Now, I will not have any more sadden thoughts :) Besides, she has the coolest name ever!! ;)
Ocean has spent the first part of her life, before she was 8, as a happy child... Until that terrible night that took everything she ever had away. Losing so much more than one person should ever have to lose, she becomes a vigilant dark savior- as she calls herself- and makes it her life to save those that cannot save themselves with her teleportation ability. Well, until she is arrested and meets Callan- who is my other hero! She will stop at nothing to make sure she saves the innocents, so they never go through what she did, even if she sacrifices herself to do it! I personally love her- though I kinda wanna slap her too- because she is exceptional! She is strong, brave, a very stubborn, seriously talented, beautiful, crazy scary, breathing machine of death. I envy what she's willing to do and risk to carry out her saving missions. She's perfectly flawed. She may be broken in her mind, but I think she's a survivor! But some scars never heal, and in Ocean's case, those scars just may kill her.
Callan is my new Book Boyfriend- on an serious level of love!! He doesn't understand why he needs Ocean, only that he does. And he's willing to do anything to keep her safe, even if it means keeping her safe from herself. This poor guy is literally put through the ringer with Ocean. She sure does give him hell. Hahaha and yet he can't help himself :) and now he's figuring out what Ocean really is, and his own fire is fueled because he can't help but want to help her in her mission. I'm seriously devastated by the ending because now I'm DYING to know what's going to happen next. I love reading from his point of view and figuring out how things are playing out. I love his personality. He quite unique in that he's alpha, except to Ocean who puts him in his place and leaves him a flustered mess! And he gets a serious A+ for his perseverance! I think every girl needs a Callan! Plus I totally love his name :)
I'm a little mad at this author- because I missed out in serious sleep time!! I picked up this story, and not even moved until I was way into the night and about halfway through!! So I then read at every waking moment- stop lights, lunch breaks, bathroom breaks, I literally carried my phone around reading this book at every given opportunity to to hold this contraption in my hand so I could finish. I had to. There is so much in wonderful storytelling in this book, and it's not just Ocean and Callan who have captured my heart. Maurice is just awesome, and even Officer Wade, and Mr Kim- who makes me giggle- and even the bad guys!!! I had to know if she was gunna get them! And with her "marks" and her discovery with Clark, and then her literal life altering realization at the end of what's happening to her! I'm seriously twitching like a five year old who just got caught because I needto know more! I can't say enough about how the writing has taken me on a whirlwind of surprises! I've decided that I will openly stalk this author, beg her to visit my blog, and seriously plead for her to tell me when I get get my paws on book two ASAP! I'm completely invested in this series, I have tremendous hopes for Ocean, I'm... I can't say what I am about Callan because of spoilers... And I am over the moon with this series! Gimme gimme gimme more, as soon as possible!! 5 DEVASTATING CAPTIVATING AMAZING PAWS!!!
Ocean Breeze witnessed her family's demise at the early age of eight-years-old. The experience has left her traumatized in more ways than one. So much so, that it's changed her entire existence, as well as her genetic code. You see, she can teleport from place to place, an ability she makes the most of.
Vowing to make the men who stole her family and her innocence away from her pay, Ocean has spent her entire life hunting cutthroats and those who seek to do others harm. The knowledge that she's been eliminating the scum of the earth should have pleased her greatly. Unfortunately, all it's been doing is taking a piece of her soul with every kill. Or so she thinks.
Telling herself that she's working a bit of good in the sordid world she lives in, Ocean promises herself that she'll stop killing people once she finds those who've caused her so much heartache. Her plan has been going well up until the moment she meets Callan Bliss. The mere sight of him wreaks havoc with her libido, something she tries very hard to deny. Yet her treacherous body refuses to keep the handsome cop at arms length.
Determined to ignore the new stirrings of her heart, Ocean dives head first into her next assignment. Yet never once did she imagine the pain and heartache that ensues from doing so. Self preservation is the key if she's to survive what's coming her way. Unfortunately, that's easier said than done. Fighting to retain a piece of herself, she soon realizes that she has no other option but to place her trust in Callan's hands. It's either that, or lose sense of who and what she is, something she will do anything to keep from happening at all costs.
The action starts from the moment you begin reading, and doesn't let go until the very end. I think this is a wonderful start to a very entertaining and thrilling series. Ocean may be a badass vigilante, but the brief looks into who and what she really is was endearing. She's gone through so much, and has done her best to live her life how she sees fit. I've got to admit that a couple of twists and turns were mind-boggling, but it makes understanding her part of the story that much better. I look forward to what's to come for the series itself.
Beoordeling: 1.
I am seriously excited about this new urban fantasy series! What’s not to like about a teleporting killer who travels to exotic locations to inflict her strong sense of justice on the bad guys? This is Ocean Breeze. An unbelievably gorgeous woman with a kick ass attitude and the will to take evil out of the world even at the expense of her own soul.
Throw in the hot cop, Callan Bliss, and it’s a super explosion of chemistry that leaves you on the edge of your seat hoping and wanting for more. Jade Hart knows how to draw out the intense desire between these two characters. You’ll understand once you read it.
Under all the hotness, the story line is intriguing and also keeps the reader on their toes wondering what Ocean will try and do next. The plot also hints at the secrets of Callan, which makes you wonder if they share more than just chemistry. Do they have a connection with teleporting or are they merely fighting on the same side even though their styles are different? Ocean Kills is a dynamic book with twists and turns that keep you turning the page seeking answers. I really look forward to the next book about Ocean and Callan.
Wow. Ocean Kills took me on an adventure I wasn't expecting. There was drama, excitement, sadness, fear, and enough hot scenes to melt even the coldest person!
I've read books in the past with very unusual plotlines, that have ultimately come off sounding completely unrealistic. Well, strange as Ocean Kills was, I believed every single word Jade Hart told me. The story stayed in my head all day, until I got back to it again, and then I dreamt about it!
The only downside for me - and it's not much of a downside because the book is incredible - is that it was just a bit too long. At less than halfway through, I felt like I'd already read an entire novel. The story didn't drag at any point, but there were a couple of chapters that could have been cut just to tighten it up even more.
Ocean Kills is an exceptional debut novel - and is like nothing I've ever read before. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ocean's journey and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Well, aside from the freaking ending - dammit, Jade! - I LOVED this book! I was so instantly in love with Callan, and so attached to Ocean, that it was impossible not to think of them when I wasn't reading.
Callan Bliss is a sexy, strong male lead, whose determination and drive when it comes to pursuing Ocean is nothing short of swoon-worthy. Even bordering on stalker-status, I still adored him. He was right to never give up on her, and I cheered him along the entire way!
Ocean Breeze is a troubled, broken character, whose actions throughout the book could be frustrating, and at times I wanted to scream at her for her choices, but she was so lovable and relatable ... even though her situation was unlike anything I should be able to relate to.
If you love DEXTER (Showtime TV Show), and you love fantasy/paranormal and delectable male leads, you will absolutely love OCEAN KILLS!
I loved the characters in Ocean Kills -- the damaged, teleporting Ocean Breeze, who is gradually sacrificing herself for her mission; Callan Bliss, the determined, insouciant cop from Sydney; and Maurice, Ocean's mysterious benefactor. The characters are complicated and wonderful. The romance is unusual and fresh and skillful -- and the chemistry sizzles. Callan makes it clear that he understands Ocean, really sees her, and though she drives him half-mad, he's very much there for her. Ocean Kills (and she definitely kills) is sexy and violent, but also funny and quite sad in parts. I really enjoyed reading it and will definitely pick up the sequel.
"I kill monsters. I'm the grim reaper and my work is never finished. I'm not what you think. Goodbye, Callan."The migraine burst a rainbow of colors into my brain, and the sushi restaurant disappeared with a pop.
This is one of the best books I've read in a long time! The characters are wonderfully flawed and amazingly lovable. The story line is unique and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I literally could not put it down. Ocean's character is multifaceted. She is a character that you grieve, cheer, and weep for; even though essentially what she does is wrong, you can't help but love her for what she does and understand it. Callan's character is completely crush worthy. He knows not everything is black and white and is a perfect combination for Ocean. This story is dark, dangerous and delicious all at once. The only thing not to like... it ends. Can't wait for the next one to come out.
Great premise for a story - truly original. I thoroughly enjoyed the slightly futuristic, teleportation world. Not quite dystopia but not quite the world we know. Ocean is a likeable heroine - tough as nails, although this self-isolation she inflicts is a little waring at times. Callan Bliss - well, what can I say. A hot, surfing cop with sunkissed complexion. What's not to like?
The back and forth between the pair was stimulating, then became a little annoying - I wanted to shake Ocean and make her speak to Callan. There were reasons for her not opening up, but it was painful at times. I'm definitely looking forward to the next instalment in the saga that is Ocean and her future.
Where to start with this one? It was a hard hitting, fast paced ride with lots of mystery and heartache. I loved that Ocean was such a kick butt kind of woman, but every once in a while that scared little girl showed through. It made her real and believable.
The paranormal element to the story is fascinating and I can't wait to see where it goes and how it even happened in the first place. Guess I'll have to read the rest of the series.
What a beautiful, amazing and wonderful story!!! Absolutely loved Callan, he's such a great guy, I adored how he handled girl like Ocean: hotheaded, full of pain and with fragile, beautiful soul. However I was often irritaded with Ocean's all drama regarding relationship with Callan. Tension between this two was deliciously erotic, I was shamefully salivating every time Callan and Ocean get together:D
I am so glad I decided to give this book a try. From the first page, I knew I was hooked. The plot was fast-paced and action-packed, and the romance was hot and had me swooning every five seconds at the intense chemistry between Callan and Ocean. The cliffhanger has me eagerly anticipating Ocean Slays in May 2013. Ugh I'm so excited! What a refreshingly unique, interesting, hot read! More people need to read this book!!
this book is FANTASTIC!!! It is something paranormal that you have never seen before. the writing is exquisite, the story line flows, and you can't help but feel everything the characters do. this book has catapulted to my #1 favorite book. a must read!
