I really thought after finishing the Horus Heresy extremis, I would take a break, but I am feeling all sorts of AuDHD right now with very mixed feelings about having crossed the perfidious Rubicon, and I just needed some ADB and to keep the train going as it's all my brain can handle right now.

This is a fun short that acts as a kind of Prologue to ADB's hiatus Black Legion trilogy showing a series of vignettes of the Traitor Astartes as they fall apart and turn on one another.

Absolutely not required reading, but a decent read. Reminded me of being a kid and finding a particularly enjoyable lore piece or short story in one of the codices or supplements.

I listened to the John Banks version from Crusade and Other Stories and then the Aborder Prince one from YouTube (https://youtu.be/YtasWgzkPKA?si=HYPGU...) both are great. It really is amazing just how much quality unofficial recordings of official and unofficial Warhammer stuff there is on YouTube. Some professional level narration and definitely some stories that more than give Black Library a run for rheir money.

I'm just going to have to get used to the fact that with Aaron Dembsky-Bowden, no minute detail will be left undescribed, and vividly at that. A Short Story set in the Aftermath of the Horus Heresy where the Sons of Horus come to grips with the proverb "you reap what you sow". Lost and leaderless, various characters of the XVI Legion, demoted from their place of privilege now become the target, hunted down by the Night Lords, World Eaters, Death Guard, and Thousand Sons.

Read this story if you want to see some filthy traitor Astartes being hunted down and mutilated by their other traitorous allies.

Serving as a prologue to the main stories of the Black Legion series, Extinction sets the stage of the disparage fragmented bands of the erstwhile Sons of Hours, now a shadow of their former selves.

Being hounded and eviscerated on a hundred different chaos realms, like a bunch of mongrels.

Setting up their inevitable resurgence as the newly formed Black Legion, under former first captain Abaddon.

Seeing as how, Aaron Demski Bowden has a track record of writing traitor legions as engaging characters, (go and read his Night Lords series if you haven't yet), I'm intrigued in looking forwards to how he handles the broken legions of the arch-traitor.

Set shortly after the Heresy this sees the Sons of Horus scattered throughout the Eye of Terror, leaderless and embattled against the remnants of the other Traitor Legions. With Horus dead, his sons are the next best thing when it comes to finding someone to blame for the Heresy, so they bear the brunt of the other legions’ ire.

Not gonna lie, wasn't a fan of this one, the switching perspectives was cool but not much of substance happens, this is basically just a montage of SoH dying then a few pages of Abaddon walking off into the sunset

Interesting, and enough to wet the whistle whilst we wait for the next instalment in The Talon of Horus series.

Extinction is a short story by Aaron Dembski-Bowden is set just after the end of the Horus Heresy and the death of the Warmaster. It tells us a series of vignettes about how the Traitor Legions have turned on the Sons of Horus and sets up the events that take place in the Talon of Horus and the other Black Legion novels. It’s worth reading as a precursor to those events but the way it frames the once-mighty 16th Legion as a pariah to their former allies foreshadows the rise of Abaddon and the coming of the Black Legion.

Very good prelude to the other Black Legion novels

I Liked the multiple different stories within this short story, detailing the annihilation of the Sons of Horus by other traitor legions after the fall of Horus during the Horus Heresy.

A fun little set of vignettes of Sons of Horus getting the shit kicked out of them while Abaddon has no fucks to give.

As you’d expect from the Warhammer legend himself. Aaron delivers a short story and a feeling of just what hopelessness is like to be some of the few remaining Sons of Horus.

Very interesting but grossly out of place, although the horus heresy books in some cases have no particular order watch out for this one for it is a spoiler book to be read after the siege on terra...

For the rest it gives an interesting glimpse into what is to come.
