With over 72 sales to her credit since her first publication in 1987, Michigan author Nancy Gideon’s writing career is as versatile as the romance market, itself. Her books encompass genres from historicals and regencies to contemporary suspense and the paranormal. Her works have been published overseas in Romanian, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, Danish, German, Icelandic and Chinese, among other languages.

Also listed on the International Movie Database (IMDB), she collaborated on the indie horror films In the Woods and Savage with screenwriting and ADR script credits, and even played the character “Bar Extra.”

A national speaker on writing in general and romance in particular, Gideon is a Western Michigan University honors grad with a major in journalism and minors in history and communications. She’s a member of Novelist, Inc. and the Mid-Michigan, Greater Detroit, PASIC and FF&P chapters of Romance Writers of America®, and is former vice-president, published author co-liaison and award-winning newsletter editor for MMRWA.

The mother of two grown sons, one married and proud producer of her grandson and the other shanghaied into being her occasional assistant, she 's retired from 18 years as a legal assistant.

A prolific writer, Gideon who also writes as Dana Ransom and Lauren Giddings, attributes her creative output, which once peaked at seven novels in one year, to her love of history and a gift for storytelling. She also credits the discipline learned through a background in journalism and scheduling writing time around diaper changes, Scout meetings, band lessons and outings to the Zoo Boo...and, of course, OCD. The due date for her third book and her second son were on the same day...and both were early! When on deadline, she'd turn on the laptop between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. to get a chapter in before work.

While the pace is often hectic, Gideon, a Gemini, enjoys tackling diverse projects. One month it’s researching the gritty existence of 1880’s Texas Rangers only to jump to modern themes of intrigue and possibly a legal thriller or two. Then, it’s back to the shadowy netheworld of shape shifters, vampires and movie serial killers. When not working on her latest plot twist before sunrise, even now that she no longer works 9-5, she enjoys indulging in Netflix, hosting her critique group, and feeding all things fur, fin and fowl. And, of course, reading.

Review to come closer to the date.

Before I start this review, I have to say that I am a big fan of Nancy Gideon. I have read the previous book in the series and one of Charlotte Caissie’s book, out of order, but I loved it. So when I received this book as an ARC, it went straight to the top of my pile. It goes without saying that I was pretty disappointed with this book (points to the rating).

Anyone who follows my reviews knows how much weight I put on the characters in the book. The hero and/or heroine either make or break a book for me. In this book I hated both the hero and the heroine.

Cale, the Terriot Prince, in a race to become their King, can only do so if he marries Kendra. We can all see potential problems here, right? The fact that marriage/mating to Kendra will bring him the leadership he wants, in itself is not a problem, because I am fine with killing two birds with one stone – be with the woman he loves and get the throne he wants, awesome!

If it was a mercenary thing, I would have wanted him to prove his love for her, not just through words but actions. But what he does is, he thinks about how much he wants her and for how long he has wanted to make her mine, that he would do anything for her. When it came to putting those words in action, he FAILED in every aspect.

I didn’t believe that he loved her, not one bit. This guy has been sleeping around for years. Not just with strangers he will never see, but with women in his clan, that he KNOWS his future queen would have to face every single day. This book was one whole bag of contradictions. If the hero was so determined to make her his queen since twenty years past, then why did he put her in a position of humiliation where everyone snickers at the fact that what the heroine is getting has already been gotten by scores of other women that she will have to see every single freaking day of her life? Did he think about her discomfort? Nope, our hero was only just concerned with his needs and sowing his oats before settling down.

So, a scene after Cale proposes her/asks to mate – he is lying there, accepting of the fact that another woman will have sex with him, because of their ‘business arrangement’. While it wasn’t completely willing, the arrangement wasn’t so pressing that he couldn’t tell her to get lost, especially when he does so a few days later. It was such a bunch of bullshit, I mean how dare he ask to mate with Kendra, and then almost accept sex from another woman, which only didn’t happen because the FEMALE stopped. What would he have done if it was Kendra, sweet virginal Kendra sleeping with someone else. Would it have been okay? I think not. What a hypocrite.

The heroine, on the other hand, doesn’t know that he almost accepted having sex with the other female, but she soon realises that they have history. There was this one scene, where the other female, during lunch was like, everyone who has had sex with the hero, put your hands up. Almost all the women did, including ones that were mated. The heroine was understandably humiliated. The hero ultimately put her in that position. Then when she sees the hero again, she just asks him once whether he slept with all those women. The hero SMILES in response, because he thinks that it’s CUTE that she is jealous, and then he unashamedly looks her in the eye and says that it was just sex with them, but that she is really the one that he wants. She then smiles in response, mollified that she is the only one for him. Yeah right! Her and about a hundred other women. Cue the happy-ending music!

And then we have a scene where he WILLINGLY grinds with another woman in a club. I mean wtf, did you not just say that everything you have done up to this point in your life was for Kendra, was this grinding business for her too? Oh, and when she goes to dance with another guy, he gets all protective. Ugh. Then he thinks how he has never met a woman whose knees he couldn’t spread by making eye contact. I really started to hate this guy by this stage.

The thing is, I would have been fine if he didn’t make her promises. Like I’ll only ever be yours – LIE.. Or only you matter, then why the hell were you sleeping around for years. Such meaningless words. I don’t even understand the point. I am not sure why readers would even be flattered by those words?

Then Kendra acts as if she is in the wrong. Because she gets jealous over seeing him with the other female. I mean why the hell wouldn’t you be angry when you see a man who just accepted you as his mate, sneaking around less than 24 hours later with a woman he has slept with. Then another half a day later, he is out partying it out with every woman in the bar all because Kendra said she wasn’t ready to have sex with him. Oh but all that grinding was okay, because his thought was just on that one woman?!?! He says he won’t hurt her, then he does this, or even he goes far enough to provokingly mention that he has friends and allies amongst females, allies because he has seen them all naked, and not friends of hers because they have all seen him naked. He is such a douchebag.

There is another scene, where he screams at his mother in her own house, telling her that she wouldn’t have this house if it weren’t for him. All because his mother told him not to take that tone with her. Then, we realise that even his mother doesn’t trust him, because she asks Kendra whether he has hurt her!!!

When I started this review, I mentioned that I AM a big fan of Nancy Gideon (present tense). I still am, even though this book was horrible for me. I have been wanting to read the previous books in her series, and I still want to. While this book has been a disappointment for me, I won’t let it ruin others.

This was as good as Silas and Nica's book. It was just as interesting, engaging and sexy.
This story occurred at the same time as Betrayed by Shadows but in clan Theriot (Nevada). So Kendra was getting her mate as The same time as Brigit.

Before this book, I had a very unfavorable view of Cael and the rest of Bram's clan. This book reminded me that there are two sides to every story and some characters aren't all bad. Cael definitely had two sides thanks to trying to survive life as Bram's prince. Apparently Kendra knew the younger & gentler side and thus had difficulty reconciling that image with the adult and very savage shifter.
The man had to show His Katy that the boy was still in there and would protect her. Here, Kendra got to be more than Brigit's simpering cousin. Gone was the girl pining over Silas (as it seemed from the prior books) and in her place, a woman who has to take her future into her own hands.

I like this Kendra better because she wasn't as weak and pathetic as I remember. In fact, she wasn't pining for Silas as much as Brigit led me to believe. I'm amazed that Cael retained his love for Kendra and fought that hard to win her hand and heart. They are good together.

I like how the author has moved this story along with the couples as well as the clan politics. I'm looking forward to the new book.

Cale is now one of my fave shifter heroes! Tortured, abused, but with a huge capacity to love and show compassion, what is not to love? Kendra was a little bit of a victim (understandably), but quickly overcame that. I enjoyed their reconnection and developing feelings for each other. Without going into the politics of the story itself, the stage is now set to move back to New Orleans and Max/Cee Cee. Yay.

While I was somewhat disappointed to find that there was not even a glimpse of Max and CeCe in this one, I shouldn't have doubted Nancy's abilities...she managed to really pull this one off. She started off with 2 characters I really didn't like, and made me care! Well done.

Having read all previous installments in the Moonlight series I was eager to dive back into another shifter tale. Prince of Shadows takes us away from the usual cast of characters and moves from New Orleans to Lake Tahoe and the Clan of Terriot. There have been glimpses of this clan in the last several books. Silas MacCreedy the hero of Hunter of Shadows and his sister Brigit, the heroine of Betrayed by Shadows, are cousins to Kendra Terriot and their backstory is interwoven with hers. They make minor appearances here, but this is solely Kendra’s story and her journey to a happy ending.

The Clan Terriot is a brutal, messed up place where one man is king and everyone else lives in fear. Even the king’s sons. Bram Terriot has twelve sons by twelve different women, they have been raised in a competition for his affections and not as true brothers. Kendra Terriot is essentially a prisoner being forced to choose which one of the heirs she will mate with. Cale is the presumed heir, the hardest fighter and the only one of the king’s sons who is willing to do anything for Kendra. The three cousins and Cale started out as friends, but one blood soaked night changed everything. Now they see him as nothing more than his father remade.

Prince of Shadows is not a soft, pleasant love story. The Terriot family exists on violence and distrust. Kendra’s parents die in horrible ways and her mother’s rape is witnessed by both Cale and Kendra as children. Cale’s entire existence afterward is lived in brutality which is rained down on him by his own father. He comes across as cold at first, but then passionate and almost in desperate need of Kendra’s understanding and affection. He is most definitely confused and frustrated by his circumstances. On the surface he appears cruel, but as the story progresses it becomes clear that he really wants the best for his clan and he’s bound and determined that Kendra be the woman by his side. I think his confusion came from how to go about getting what he wanted. A childhood spent in that type of violence lasts into adulthood no matter how badly you want to be a good man, and Cale has been battling his way to the top for years.

Kendra is just as confused as her lover. She is innocent and has spent most of her life spirited away from the clan, but now that she is in their clutches and must choose a mate she really doesn’t know what to do. Her innocence and link to her parents is the only things of value she has and she guards them fiercely. Even after knowing Cale’s reasoning for his actions all through the years and after hearing his claims of faithfulness she almost always chooses to think the worst until the very end. They do have a passion for each other, but I got a little restless waiting for them to finally come together and bond completely. She has always thought that her cousin Silas might one day be her husband, and even in his absence he constantly comes between this couple. Even towards the end Kendra is still keeps giving Cale the impression that she’s choosing Silas over him. It got so frustrating that I didn’t think they would ever find a HEA.

While this wasn’t my favorite of the series, I still have mad love for the Moonlight series and am eagerly awaiting to see what comes next. My only hope is that Ms. Gideon is planning on bringing back Max and CeeCee. I’ve been missing them for the last several books and they will always be my favorite couple. Final grade- C+

This book was a tough one. I've actually re-written this review four times because I want to be fair.

The first two chapters are choppy and violent. Just a really strong and negative first impression of some sort of MMA fighter's twisted fantasy. Then you get the rest of the book, which is cohesive, multi-dimensional and most importantly more plot than posture.

The book centers on the Terriot Clan of Nevada. I was able to ascertain that they are wolf shifters but not much more than that. The book never establishes a back story for the shifter powers and abilities.

The Terriots are ruled by a ruthlessly violent patriarch who nurtures dissension among his sons to the point that he has twelve sons by 12 different women. The patriot's name is Bram which immediately conjures a comparison with Bram, the patriarch of the wolves in The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. But that is where the similarities end because the styles of these books are as different as oil and water.

Cale and Kendra grew up together in the pack but are tragically split apart by a horrific act of violence perpetrated by Bram and witnessed by both lovers as children. Kendra is smuggled out of the Terriot compound and raised in semi-seclusion for most of her life. Now in her late 20's Kendra is brought back to the Terriot compound to participate in a competition to choose Bram's next successor and their mate. The sons are made to compete against one another in a series of battles and events that leave several brothers dead or wounded. Kendra is selected to be the new mate of the competition's winner.

Before the book is finished the story will touch on rape, incest, child abuse, drug addition, spousal abuse, fratricide, patricide, murder, and clan warfare. You will not learn why it took so long to get Kendra back to the complex. You won't even begin to understand how she couldn't have a a clue that Silas was married and a had a child. There are many more questions but they are also spoilers so I don't want to go into detail.

The writing in this story is weak in several places. The hyphen has been overused to the point of exhaustion, two or more at a time in an attempt to create non-existent words. Why not take the time to think of a better word? And, bless their hearts, the lead characters in this novel just aren't that smart. Kendra is brave, naive and immature. Cale is malicious, arrogant and emotionally conflicted. In other words, this is very much a soap opera type of drama with MMA fighting, villains galore, huge betrayal and ok sex scenes. At its core, Prince of Shadows is a story about true love and its power to redeem and save those it touches.

This novel hits e-stands on May 27th.

Cale Terriot wants something more from his life, but he is caught up in the power struggles, machinations and violence of his father’s making. He dreams of his childhood friend Kendr,a but to have her as his mate, he must fight off his unmated siblings.

Kendra’s family has been destroyed by Bram, leaving her in the hands of the Terriots. She loved Cale as a child, but now she sees a ruthless wolf, just like his father.

Cale must convince Kendra of his true intentions while keeping a strong appearance so that he isn’t destroyed or killed by his own family. Weakness means death. Can he prove his love or will he make the ultimate sacrifice?

Prince of Shadows is not your happy shifter love story. It is a dark tale of abuse, rape, murder, and violence, all governed by a sick and twisted alpha and father to the Terriot heirs, Bram. The plot is cutthroat and raw with disturbing infighting and agonising decisions. A vivid tale of a young shifter fighting for a new life out of the darkness he was born heir. Cale was arrogant, somewhat mean-hearted and extremely conflicted. Kendra is ignorant but brave. I found a few of the plot directions open-ended with no obvious answers for closure. I did enjoy this story, and in the end, it proves that true love can be the catalyst to change.

It seems up to today I've missed an author I could like. Ms Gideon writes a powerful, dark and gritty world that seems up to my alley. The plot is perfectly adapted to this world, with a few notable exceptions.
The hero fits perfectly into this world, too. The heroine, not so much. Given her past, according to cliché, she might have become a kick ass vengeful bitch or a victim. She wavers very near on this last side. (I mean one of her cousins protected her to the point of letting her believe she was going to mate someone else, one who is already mated. To keep her way from what they perceive as a mistake.) I get the idea she should have been more fleshed. No other character is fully three dimensional, but then honestly they are there mainly as background. (I don't mean to say they are flat, at all. Simply the way the story is shaped, no one is important outside the couple. In a sense they have been both kept separated from the world.)

The book can be read alone (I did) and there's no missing much. On the other side you get into media res (and media world), so you have to take a lot of things for granted. I'm planning of going back to book one. :)

This eighth story in the moonlight series is just as fantastic as one through seven! Cale and Kendra meeting back up together again and discovering feelings theyve hidden from each other for years! Add court intrigue, a feeling king and you have a wild ride! I'm not sure how these books would read as standalone but one through eight are not to be missed and I'm off to start number nine!

Wow, I need more time to read and less time at work for this series. Sad to see it coming to an end. I like how the stories even though they seem distant all link back to the same group of characters.

He-ll-ooo sexy shifter romance – why haven’t I met you before?!?

This book is pure unadulterated romance with a sizzling Romeo and Juliet plotline. Yes, it’s that old chestnut – boy meets girl, warring families come between them, mutilated mothers abound, mad fathers spoil it for everyone, their love is torn apart, Juliet wants Romeo to die a long painful death, Romeo pines pitifully for the next ten years. Et voila – Prince of Shadows!

All sarcasm aside, I mightily enjoyed this book. I had not heard of the series before and was intrigued by the blurb I read on Edelweiss. The series takes place in modern day America where shifters live in secret from humans. I was a wee bit apprehensive at first about dipping in so late in the series but it wasn’t too hard to get the hang of this violent underground world and its inhabitants.

Prince of Shadows focuses on an unruly herd of Princes living in Nevada who belong to the Terriot clan, a violent family who have destroyed pretty much any and all opposition in their territory. While ruling his people with an iron fist, the King had also been a busy boy and begot himself many, many fine (darn fine) sons. One of the finest of his prodigy is Cale Terriot. A ruthless, scarred, vision impaired beast of a man and dare I say it… slightly mentally unstable after his tragic upbringing.

Cale
description

The Terriot men are designer suit wearing, sparkly diamond wearing hot rods. Arrogant and cruel, most of them are willing to kill in order to possess what they want. So when the King proclaims that his heir will be the man who mates with Kendra, daughter of his defeated enemy – it’s a fight to a death. But what everyone doesn’t know is that Cale has a history with Kendra. He made a promise to her many years ago, and irrespective of the crown – he wants his woman back.

Cale is such a sweetie-pie. Born weak, he had to fight for everything from the get-go and boy, do I love me a scrapper. This man doesn’t muck around, within a couple of chapters he had already stated his intentions to Kendra. He works fast! But standing in his way is Silas, his childhood playmate turned enemy. So Cale spends most of the book wringing his hands and trying not to think of his lost lady love leaving him for the dastardly Silas.

Oh Kendra, you sweet little virgin lady. What to do with you? I like to read about strong, empowered female characters who like to kick ass, so when I come across sweet simpering lady loves I usually want to wring their necks. You grew in confidence as the book progressed, but still – get a handle on the simpering and the blushing please! Kendra is somewhat of a political prisoner after her parents both died. Her family were considered traitors and she is ostracized within the female prison-like community of eligible ‘breeders’. Living in some kind of dorm room hell, she and her friend Brigit want to escape their prison before being married off to unknown Terriot men. Fortunately, Brigit is successful in her escape, but alas Kendra is not and she has to play nice with the Terriot Princes while they try to woo her. Oooh! Woo!

Cale is sensitive about our dear lady’s plight:

“I know how much you hate it here. If I were any kind of man, I’d let you go, but I can’t. I can’t just walk away from my life here and go with you, either. I don’t know the answer. I do want you to know that I’d understand. I’d forgive you.”

Kendra
description

Cale’s mother was best friends with Kendra’s mother and so they spent a lot of time together growing up. But after a violent encounter between the King and Kendra’s mother, Kendra has not been a part of Cale’s life at all. She is mortified and sickened by his now violent behaviour, especially when he fights his own brothers for the opportunity to mate with her.

The romance is slow at first, even though Cale has a reputation for not only being a bit of a horndog but a slam, bam, thank you ma’am kinda guy. Kendra is a virgin and he respects that – even though she is 27 and treats her hooha like some holy temple. Seriously honey, just get it over with. Like my mother said – lie back and think of England. But when it happens, it ha-pp-ens! Cale is pretty hot stuff in between the sheets. Kendra calls him a ‘steamy, slow-burning sex incarnate.’ Plus interestingly, they like to play around with car metaphors while doing the nasty… whatever floats your boat I guess…

I enjoyed the storyline – Cale was so desperately in love with his ‘Katy’. You don’t usually see the hot alpha stud as the more romantic one in a paranormal romance pair, so I liked that different perspective. This was quick, fun romance. For me though, the overarching shifter storyline didn’t really progress. But if you are only in it for the romance – then this story is a winner!

This is not your ordinary story of shape shifters. Oh don’t get me wrong it has all the basic elements but it goes so much further. If you have trouble dealing with things like rape, incest, child abuse, and spousal abuse this may not be an easy book for you to get through. I know that I had to step aside a couple of times to deal with something else before going back to the story.

Ms. Gideon takes us into the world of the Terriot Clan which is from Nevada. At first I wasn’t sure what type of shape shifter but after reading further I am assuming they are werewolves as that seems to be the implied shifter in the story. The clan is led by Patriarch Bram, father of twelve sons/princes all by different women. Bram the Patriarch stops at nothing to get his point across to the others. He even goes as far as rape. Ruling with an Iron Hand he has pitted his sons together so that they don’t trust each other.

This story is about one of his younger sons that happen to live with him, Cale. Cale and Kendra have been friends since they were children. Kendra was heartbroken when things happen as a young child. It pulled her and Cale apart. Because of Bram’s violence toward her family she was taken from the compound and eventually brought back (not sure of the reason or how) to become a princess and marry one of the sons so that they may be the next ruler’s. Because of the complexities of the storyline and the emotional involvement some things tend to get lost within the story. Kendra is still a virgin which is a hot commodity. Cale wants her for himself and declares that he will mate with her. Kendra has become skeptical as he seems to be allot like his father which isn’t good. It scares her. Even though they both remember how they loved each other as children it is still there under the surface of all that is going on. They are there for each other as they go through things together which only makes their bond to each other stronger.

There are many touching scenes in the story that helped to get through some of the tough parts. There were some very endearing love scenes, which span time. Hot and steamy sex was jumping off the pages.

Overall I enjoyed this story. This is the first of Ms. Gideon’s Moonlight series that I have read. Having said that, I will say that had I read the first group some questions that I had within the actual story would probably have been answered. Like the type of shifters that the Terriot Clan was. I felt that the characters could have been better put together. For instance Kendra had a tendency to be a little contradicting when I felt she should have been a little stronger and braver. She also seemed too naïve for someone in her later 20’s. Cale on the other hand was so arrogant that it seemed unreal almost a malicious arrogance. But then there were times he slipped as he tended to be very loving and caring toward Kendra and his mother then he would fly off the handle and become very hurtful. This I guess stems from being raised by his father.

Although some of the storyline seemed weak and was at times hard to get through because of the topic matter I found it to be a story that makes you wants to go and read the others in the series to find out about why each brother is the way he is. For the most part it was a good story and has appeal to it. I think that I will try to read the others and I look forward to more from Ms. Gideon.

Prince of Shadows creates a world set in a cutthroat royal arena where secrets and betrayal are rampant. Add in the prince most skilled in navigating the games, a woman who is unprepared to face all the danger, and sprinkle a heap of romance and we have this spectacular book. Loved it!

The world building was utterly flawless. Though I haven't read the previous books in the series, I never felt lost. The society of shifters and the political games within the royal family were well drawn out and felt truly realistic as I read the book. Kudos to the author for doing such a great job in that.

Kendra took a while to grow on me. At first, she seemed weak willed and a constant damsel in distress. She was not prepared to deal with all the danger and it showed. But, after a while, her own brand of strength showed through. She wasn't an outwardly bold or daring heroine. But, her resilience in dealing with everything that happened proved that she wasn't a wilting flower. And, regardless of her precarious position, she wasn't going to let anyone run all over her, including the king and any of the princes. By the end, I truly liked her character.

Prince Cale was a conundrum as well. Outwardly, he's a ruthless prince who will tear down anyone who dares go against him. But, it doesn't take long to see his mask is only that: a mask. He does what he has to do to survive and protect his loved ones. Underneath that, he's a sweet man, who wants to rule for his people's best interest and would do anything to protect those he loves. I adored him and I think other readers will, as well.

The romance had a lot of obstacles to overcome, but overcome them it did. There were sparks between Kendra and Cale that had roots in their childhood friendship. They were so sweet together. I loved how utterly devoted they were to each other. Both would face the worst danger just to protect the other. And there was spice between them for sure. Not a huge amount, but enough to keep things interesting.

The plot was well paced. I was never bored, but there were a couple of points where I wasn't riveted because the plot slowed down a bit. Overall, though, I was hooked all the way through. There were thrills to spare, along with surprises, betrayals, and political conspiracy. And the ending tied up the romance while leaving me curious to find out what happens next.

Prince of Shadows was a fantastic paranormal romance. If you're looking for a great PR to read, this is your book.

It will take Kendra fully trusting in Cale and his love in order to survive the treachery that has been surrounding them.
I was given the ARC to this book through Pocket books and Edelweiss, and I am glad that I was given the opportunity to read this one. I first read Masked by Moonlight a few years ago, and loved it, and to this day I don't know why I hadn't read more of this series. Now after reading Prince of Shadows, I am going to have to work on that and SOON!! I love a good shifter romance, but there was a lot more to this story than just a shape shifter romance story. It didn't take me very long to be drawn instantly into the story. I stayed up until 1 A.M reading this because I honestly couldn't put it down once. There was such complexity to this story that has so many twists and turns in the plot that it definitely kept me on the edge. A story full of intrigue, danger, and a intense love story. Gideon takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster that is so vividly portrayed, with a passion that sizzles, characters that will capture your heart, and a compelling story to take your breath away. A delicious addition to an fascinating paranormal series. It swept me away to a world of danger and a world of romance and sensual desire. A Winner of a Read!!

The Terriots rule with an iron fist and are known for being ruthless and violent. Kendra is the last to throne (for which the Terriots are to blame) and she must choose the one of the kings son. Kendra had a past with the kings son, Cale, but so much has changed since they were young and innocent. Now he is known for being just as ruthless as his father and known for being a wham bam thank you ma'am kind of man. (I can't believe I just used a word my mother likes to use *Shutters*) Being that she is virgin it makes her pretty much a hot commodity and if she doesn't choose a mate there will be people take her weather she wants it or not. Cale isn't as ruthless as he lets others believe and he has to prove it to Kendra if he wasn't to win her heart and her hand in bonding.

I just want to point out that this is part of a series. When I found out that it was so late into the series I was a bit reluctant to start it being that there is going to be stuff I may not understand being that I didn't read the previous books. This story is its own, you won't miss a thing if you read this. This book actually got me considering to read the next books.

I really enjoyed this book. There was action in bits, there was loads of conflict. Never a dull moment. This book has romance with abuse, rape, and murder in the mix.

I like how Kendra was brave and selfless at times but she can be ignorant and naive. When she kept pushing the kings button I kept thinking shes going to end up hurt and I kept questioning why. I liked that she was willing to sacrifice herself for the sake of others. Cale is arrogant, malicious but he can be caring too at times. I wish he could've been more trusting with Kendra and would listen to her at times. I liked that I got both of their perspectives to get a deeper understanding on their characters.

Being that they were shifters I would've liked to know more about that, I barely heard much about their shifting abilities. But then again that could be because this is the eighth book and its already been explained.

Overall I enjoyed the book and I highly recommend.

The fourth book in Nancy Gideon's steamy "Shadows" paranormal romance series is out. Prince of shadows was released on May 27th and boy is it a keeper. While this was my first book of the Shadows series, it won't be my last. If you haven't read previous books from the series, don't worry this book transitions you in and you get just enough background to catch up to the plot.

The story is about Kendra and Cale Terriot, and and soon to be Leader of the House of Terriot shape shifters. Kendra is held hostage by a Cale's barbaric dictating father the clan leader. She is forced to choose one of his treacherous and evil sons as her mate to unite their clans. Kendra must play a careful courtship game when choosing among the dangerous Shifter heirs, as she waits for rescue.

As a Prince in the House of Terriot, Cale knows he can be the leader his clan needs with Kendra at his side. He has loved her since they played together as children. But Kendra has seen his father murder her parents, and she believes him to be just as cruel and brutal. Kale wants to show Kendra his love and prove to her that he can be the man she desires, but in a treacherous competition for the crown, and future princess, any show of weakness means surrendering his throne and even death. He struggles to find a way to win her heart, which also could mean letting her go to the one he thinks she loves.

Givens does a great job of making a believable plot with modern day settings mixed with just a bit of supernatural. The result is believable and not too much sci fi or fantasy. I loved the way she developed the plot and it had a great twist to the end that brought it all together in an unexpected ending.

While a few times it seemed like she was trying to go back and add in background details and got a bit off track, the story was great, the characters were charming and it kept my interest through over 384 pages (wow!!) Had to go, so I had to stop reading just as I got to the last 5 pages, and the book was so good I almost decided to skip PTA meeting. Needless to say, I got out of there when it was over. I couldn't wait to get back to read it!!

REVIEW:
Prince of Shadows is a sexy shifter paranormal romance that had me captivated! I loved this story! This book is fourth book in the Moonlight Series. I was able to read Prince of Shadows without reading the books that came before it in the series, and understand the book. So this book can be read as a stand alone. I do plan on reading the other books though since I really enjoyed this one. Prince of Shadows has a lot of conflict, action, danger, intrigue, and plenty of steamy romance. I really loved the characters! Cale has loved Kendra since they were children, but left her in order to protect her. Now that Kendra is grown up and has to chose a mate, Cale sets out to win her heart while also having to deal with all the danger, and treachery around them. Kendra is naive and innocent, but she's also brave and selfless. Cale is ruthless, but also has depth and feelings he hides from everyone. Nancy Gideon really transports the reader into the Moonlight series world. Prince of Shadows has a unique and intriguing plot that held my interest and kept me flipping the pages with anticipation until the the last page. I loved it and I plan on devouring the rest of the Moonlight Series as soon as possible. I highly recommend Prince of Shadows for paranormal romance lovers!

I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this book since, it really moves away from Max and Cee story line, but I loved this book. I enjoyed seeing new characters and meeting this brutal Terriot clan. This family is very brutal and exists on violence and distrust. I was wondering how they would work a love story in with this clan considering how they were trying to skills Bridgit.
They were responsible for killing Kendra’s parents and Silas Parents in a very disturbed manor. Her mother was raped by the Terriot king in front of her and her father killed. Silas parents and family was beheaded as a way to instill fear and obedience. Know Kendra is supposed to marry into this brutish existence. What we fins with this book is Cale, which he seems cold at first, but then passionate and totally in love with Kendra’s. He's had to always hide his feeling due to his fathers and his idea of weakness. He is most definitely confused and frustrated by his circumstances. He actually seems very confident and a strong leader that wants the best for his clan and he wants Kendra be the woman by his side. Then we see this side to him and all his brothers that fear their father. It seems a bit strange theses 12 strong men scared is this sick elderly king. He has been an intimidator all their lives and they are truly scared. Eventually they become a united front and realize they have all suffered due to their father. they decide family is more important and do what is best for their clan.
I wasn't sure I would like this story but I loved it. I loved Kendra's and Cale's story and their heartbreak, and the rediscovering of their love.

With Prince of Shadows, Nancy Gideon brings the story told in her Shadows series (a continuation of her Moonlight series) full circle. In Hunter of Shadows, (the first in this quad) Silas MacCreedy, Kendra's cousin, heads to New Orleans looking to secure his clan's place in the Shifter hierarchy. Later, in Betrayed by Shadows, Brigit, Silas' sister, flees the Terriot clan hoping to find help for Kendra's predicament and finds love in New Orleans in the process.

Prince of Shadows gives us the story of what was happening in the Terriot clan while Silas and Brigit were in New Orleans with Max' clan. As the story beings, we see Brigit rushing off and Kendra left behind forced to choose a mate from among the Terriot heirs. There are eight unmated Princes, but only one has ever meant anything to her - Cale. However, that was before she witnessed him stand by while his father murdered those closest to her. While that's true, he's only ever done what was necessary to survive under his father's tyrannical rule with the hope that one day he would be able to rule and strengthen the clan restoring it to its former glory.

This series continues to be one of my favorites. Nancy is a great storyteller. I hope this is not the last Moonlight/Shadows story to be told.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:
*eARC provided by Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review

I think this might be my favorite book of the series. Don't get me wrong, I've loved Max and the gang, but there was just something about this installment that grabbed me and wouldn't let go. I actually think I know what it was... I read & enjoy Paranormal Romance a lot, but I always tend to gravitate back to Urban Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror, and Thriller, and quite frankly, the darker the better. This installment of the Moonlight series was definitely darker, grittier, more dangerous, and had a plot rife with twists... and I simply loved it!

Cale Terriot, or hero, is completely caught up in the dark world of his father's making as possible heir to the Terriot throne. While deep in his heart he yearns for so much more, he does what must be done, no matter how grave.

Kendra loved Cale as a child, but after her family was destroyed she blames the family for her loss and fears that Cale has turned into his father... or worse.

The Prince of Shadows tale is all about Cale playing a very dangerous game - trying to prove his love to Kendra, while keeping up appearances with his father and family - all the while just trying to stay alive. It kept me on the edge of my seat and was deliciously entertaining.

LITERAL ADDICTION gives Prince of Shadows 5 Skulls. While I do suggest reading the entire MOONLIGHT series, Prince of Shadows easily stands well on its own as a great read.

Well, sorry, but I dropped this one down from 5 stars. In my mind I remember it being clever, sexy, and laugh out loud funny. I didn't get that from it this time.

While still entertaining, I found the hero to be completely inconsiderate (even when he wasn't specifically being a douche) and the ending vague. The heroine wasn't as likable and the history and "love triangle" were weak. Cale could be a huge douche when pushing her away, it made me grit my teeth. And tho he says if she wants to know anything, just ask, he's open and honest at the beginning but becomes more secretive toward the end.

In fact, the first part of the book I would give 4.75 stars, the middle frustrating part 3 stars and the end 4.25 stars. Cale does things such as not telling her he's about to finish During her first bj. Takes her virginity in the woods with NO finesse then walks away and leaves her. Goes out to lunch then stays out late partying with the clan while leaving her in her room (she just smiles and let's it go), leaves her home and "parties like a rockstar" hopped up on a drug, steals his diamond earring that he gave her back without telling her... He's just very inconsiderate, I didn't like it. I also didn't really have any scenes that made me grin like I thought. The heroine gets stronger but for parts of the story she's such a doormat. Not a bad book just not the one I remembered. 3.75 stars

Short Review:

I liked this one but I find myself having a hard time pinpointing why. I'm not crazy about the lore in this series and the timeline of books is kinda crazy. I fought the break away from the original two characters but I did really like Cale and Kendra together. I thought they fit well and there was enough action to keep me interested enough to continue.

I'm also not usually a lover of the virgin heroine. Kendra is such a well rounded, awesome character though that I liked her....in spite of her intact virginity. I found her to be strong and exactly who Cale needed standing by his side when he took the throne. Cale's complex character left me wondering at times which side of his personality would win out in the end. The part who seemed cold and conniving or the softer side. Luckily a mix of the two seemed to be what his kingdom was needing and so I think in the end, Kendra made him a better person, who would be able to handle the responsibility the throne would have.

The secrets Cale has carried since he was a young boy play a huge part in connecting a lot of the puzzle pieces set along the way in this series. I have to wonder if this means that the series is closing to an end soon.

Prince of Shadows is a good addition to this series and lovers of Nancy Gideon should feel the same way.

I give Prince Of Shadows 3.75 stars!

Oh I love this book. Cale is probably second to Max as being my favorite male character in the series. Kinda wish there was more book involving Cale being the main hero cause he is just awesome and I wouldn't mind reading about him. I hope that the other Princes get their own story as well, just want to see Wes be in a monogamy relationship and Kip as well. This was a nice change of pace. As much as I love the New Orleans group, the Princes really caught my attention.

Kendra was not as weak as I expected, from the previous two book Kendra seem like such a weak and annoying character. Maybe it was just the way Brigit made her sound like. Even though she still seems a little bit weak. Most of the time when she was talking to Sylvia I was hoping she would just punch her.

I cannot tell you how much I love Cale. He seem like such a cold heartless bastard from the start but really he is probably the most sweetest from all the other Heroes. He really love Kendra and was willing to do anything for her. Kinda envious of her.

Still wish we learn a little bit about Max's condition but oh well this was still a pretty good read. Here's hoping the Terriot Princes get their own story.

As a long-time fan of Nancy Gideon's Moonlight series, I was excited to get an early peek at Prince of Shadows. Even though, this is the eight in the series it can be read as a standalone without missing a beat. This book is set in Lake Tahoe and features the Terriot Clan. Cale and Kendra were childhood friends until a tragic event tore them apart. Now 18-years-later, they find themselves trapped forced together in a deadly battle for the Terriot crown.

The story was unique and intriguing grabbing my attention from page one. Ms. Gideon has written another incredible paranormal romance. She then proceeded to fill it with plenty of remarkable characters, including the protagonists, and the numerous unmated Terriot princes - which hopefully will result in potential future stories!!! This was a very effortless read; the flow and pace were exceptional. In a genre flooded with an ever increasing number of formulated tales. It was refreshing to read such a well-written story in this analogous world.

Prince of Shadows by Nancy Gideon transcends the paranormal with a gripping love story of endurance and perseverance. Cale's story is told in Gideon's unique manner, serving up tortured and spine tingling alpha male. Gideon delves deeper into the secretive world of the shifters, giving insight into a ruthless macrocosm where the survival of the fittest is sublimely showcased. Cale and Kendra's mating will be a dance to remember. Another amazing addition to the Moonlight series. I can't wait for more Max, though. *le sigh* Thank you, Nancy Gideon!
Note: For those wondering who Max is, you must become acquainted to one of my all time favorite male heroes. Max is the super yummy alpha that kicked off this amazing series, Moonlight, by Nancy Gideon. He continues to be on my top 10 List of amazing and juicy book boyfriends.
