A sixth-grader with poetic leanings spends an afternoon with his exterminator father as punishment. The father’s racism becomes an issue and as the two drive back home they stop by a convenience store where they are taken hostage in a holdup. The book smart boy is on his way to peacefully ending the conflict with the use of poetry as he befriends the hostage taker, but the father’s violent solution intrudes. In the course of this ordeal, father and son begin to develop somewhat of an understanding of the other. Show More Show Less
