Helpful Book on Purpose of Evil and Overcoming Through Prayer
Several years ago, I read his book entitled Destined For The Throne. It was very thought-provoking and helpful. This book in the first 2/3 or so is a reprise of that book. The author is heavily influenced by E.M. Bounds and that is a good thing. The shared premise is that God does nothing apart from the prayers of His people. Billheimer carries it a step further by affirming that the purpose of prayer is to train Christians in conquering and overcoming evil which prepares the Christian to rule with Christ in eternity, ruling and judging with Christ. It also has helpful insights on spiritual warfare.
The last part has to do with his views on healing and more spiritual warfare. However, the last section on spiritual warfare is primarily a biography of Rev Billheimer written by his wife. There is some insight to be gleaned, but I was somewhat disappointed and felt the section was misnamed.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and thought it was very helpful, especially the first part. I recommend.
I have only positive thoughts on this book and a very high regard for the author and his dear wife. If it wasn't for their persistency in prayer to do God's will through their battle of spiritual warfare and illness God's voice may never have been heard by the thousands that have read his book and had their lives turned around. I only wish I could have bought the book 'Destiny for the Throne' myself but sadly it must be out of print. I will buy all of Paul Billheimer's books because they read differently from other books somehow and encouraging too - just what I was searching for.
A powerful book that demands we take a look at our walk & claim the authority that is ours. I greatly enjoyed parts of it & thought the challenge to really, truly pray without ceasing very good, but the way he writes about certain things (especially praying for physical healing) did seem a bit dangerous for immature believers, leading me to be cautious in recommending this book.
Some interesting ideas about the purpose of prayer and the theological legal foundation for its use. In parts seemed ok. In other parts, it seemed pretty dubious to me. It's going on the give-away pile.
