3.5 stars. I found the first half of the book to be a little confusing. It’s told in first person from Luke’s point of view, so it’s hard to understand everything going on with Rowan. The second half of the book brought greater clarity and I found myself more invested in the story. I’m not sure I totally connected with the main characters as much as I would have hoped, in fact, I actually enjoyed the little side story with Luke’s brother Selim almost as much as the main story. There was some pretty heavy baggage that both Luke and Rowan brought to their relationship and I was glad they were able to help each other through their respective struggles, but I found I still had outstanding questions by the end of the story and everything wasn’t wrapped up totally nice and neat for me.
This was so hard to put down. I was alittle confused in the beginning but not so much that it matter to me, I just kept reading and it all came together well. I loved Luke and Rowan. The way they helped each other face their demons while dealing with there own created a story that was quite beautiful. I was happily surprised when I got to Selim and Gavin's story, it was an added bonus to an already great story. I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes romance, enjoys painful but beautiful stories or just plain likes good writing. I can't wait for more by the author.
The main characters are tough but weak as they try to fight against their demons. It took a little while to find a reading rhythm for this book but once I did I couldn’t put it down. This is an incredibly painful story but well worth seeing it through to the end. EL Esch is a new writer for me but one I am glad I found.
I won this book in a giveaway, although, it is one that I had on my TBR because the blurb was interesting. This was a difficult book for me to read. I enjoyed the unusual creative-writing style (especially evident in the opening chapter) but the story itself didn't hold my attention as I hoped it would, and I never really connected with the characters enough to become vested in their story.
Puzzling narrative that didn't seem to go anywhere or tell us anything and two fucked up characters that I really can't be bothered fighting through the confusion to get to know.
