A little addition to our reading from the George Ranch sensory pack. Lovely to see books scattered around heritage sites to enhance learning for little ones. Flo likes the toughness of the pig’s skin.
"Farm, (Touch and Feel)," by Anne Millard is the perfect touch and feel picture book for ages one-four. This book has not won any awards so yet. This book gives children the chance to feel four different farm animals that include chicks, a dog, a lamb, and a pig. I chose to give this book a four star rating because although there are not many words on the page, they are very age appropriate. Many children learn through touch and applying multiple senses, which this book allows for. This book also helps children understand the different farm animals. This book did not receive five stars from me because I feel there should be more animals. I may use this book while working with children to introduce them to the animals and what they look or sound like!
This is a great first book for a young infant. The pages are filled with bright colors and large text. This book introduces children to different animals, as well as the noises each animal makes. Each page of "Farm" contains different textures which stimulates a childs tactile sensation during reading time. This book can also be used with children with sensory issues. Since each page contains a different texture, the child can become more comfortable with touching the textures as they read the book, which may help them become less sensitive to textures within their environment.
Ok enjoyed this and can see it growing very well with A... except I had to take away two stars because of my own personal texture issues combined with the last page and the bristly pig. Gotta keep it real, y'all.
