Love with the enemy can be the ultimate surrender...

Fiona Lockhart struggles to survive after Earth is conquered by powerful aliens. She knows it's only a matter of time before her schizophrenic mother acts out at the wrong time and place and brings down the wrath of their captors. Kall warrior Merokk has mixed feelings about marrying a human woman, but it's his duty and he can't refuse. He enjoys taming the headstrong Betsy, and a good spanking now and then makes the passion burn. The sex is sizzling, and as the months pass, Merokk discovers the feelings for his little wife run deep. But when he learns of her deceit after the real Betsy Carson surfaces, Merokk's new world shatters. Can he learn to forgive Fiona, or will he spend the rest of their lives punishing her for a crime she never wanted to commit?

To the victor go the spoils.

One woman with a secret to protect the one she loves.

One warrior sanctioned to keep peace on a newly defeated Earth.

Brought together under tense circumstances Fiona and Merokk are forced to accept the situation. For Merokk, it is easy coming from a world that is based on arranged unions. Fiona, on the other hand, grapples with her proposal. She has misgivings and there is a great deal of internal conflict that she wends her way through.

While the plot is fairly typical with an alpha male and his war prize, it is sweet with some domestic discipline. As the standard on Kall, Merokk wastes no time in explaining the rules to Fiona, who to her own surprise finds them not too egregious.

Detractors from the story: awkward beginning--killed the momentum of a surrender treaty announcement with a long-winded discussion of cooking and groceries. A couple of silly actions on Fiona's part which receive the attention they merit in which Merokk continues teaching her about his mate's duties and appropriate behavior. If you like spankings, this one runs the gamut from pleasure to punishment.

I recommend this book to readers who enjoy fantasy sci-fi, alpha males in monogamous relations and a few good spankings.

Reads like an historical romance with the biggest difference being that the husband is a dominating alien instead of an Earl or whatever.

The "heroine" has no ambition to do anything with her life and I found it uncomfortable and dull. Even though there are places she can go, she likes walking around the greenhouse or looking at the rose garden. There is technology available but she reads in the library. She wanted to be a doctor but she doesn't request to pursue anything and she can't have children with her husband's species. Worst case of "all you need is love" since she has to worry about upsetting her husband and being disciplined all the time.

Interesting world building with alien invaders forcing earth surrender. Although the Kall, the conquering species, don't seem so different from humans there are differences in culture. The blurb explains everything very well but suffice to say the poor heroine has to keep a secret. There is spanking when she misbehaves and very hot sex as well, although there is also plenty of fade to black here too so it doesn't overwhelm. In spite of how it might sound this is a very sweet romance story. There is not really any of the abuse so common to this type of genre (earth girl forced to marry non human etc etc etc). It could have used a bit more harshness on the part of Merokk only because, as a warrior, he sometimes came off way too lenient and soft. However that is just my own opinion. For those that like an alpha male with a heart who can be tender and sweet with no wish to harm along with a heroine who doesn't whine and think poor me this is an excellent choice!

A very enjoyable tale. When the Kall defeat the Earthlings in an interplanetary war, part of the non-negotiable, peace treaty written by the Kall involves Earth women marrying Kall warriors. The president's daughter, Betsy Carson, is one of them and has been selected to marry Merokk. But when Betsy flees, Fiona Lockhart, the veritable double of Betsy, is forced to assume her identity and marry Merokk instead. Merokk falls hard and fast for Betsy/Fiona, until her deception is discovered. Will Fiona be able to save their budding relationship? This story contains light BDSM. Somewhat eye-raising is the fact that Earth appears to be just the United States and the US President is Earth's leader. This is a very simple but satisfying "Mars-needs-women" type story and I highly recommend it to those who enjoy these stories!

I'm not that into BDSM... But some are enjoyable reads. So I keep a fairly open mind about them, cause you can find great stories and truly enjoy them.
Scifi erotica/Romance/Futuristic/BDSM

This book was surprisingly good. I wasn't expecting to like it...
It flows easily and doesn't drag. It has a good romance build up and good angst dosage. Main characters aren't too deep, but their relatable and likable. Interesting very brief backgrounds and satisfying ending. The sex was scarce to be honest and the story wasn't too deep either. But it was okay.

description

So it wasn't mind blowing, but it was an enjoyable short read.

So I definitely recommend it for boring sundays or lonely rainy afternoons! I bid you farewell!

Forced to pose as the First Daughter in order to save her mother, Fiona vows to never fall in love with the alien warrior she has been betrothed to. What she doesn’t expect is how quickly her body betrays her and warms instantly to the enemy. Merrok’s body fits perfectly with her own and his taste for bdsm makes her continually crave his touch. But will Merrok still love her when he finds out who she really is?

Sue Lyndon excels at the smut fest and now she can add sci fi to her repertoire. I enjoyed this for what it was, a short, erotic read based 95% on sexy times and 5% on story. Because there isn’t much of a story with this one. Aliens have come to earth and won in a brutal war. As peace is being restored an elite number of Kall warriors are being married to human women of importance. When the First Daughter who is intended for Merrok goes missing, shadowy gov’t agents convince Fiona to pose as Betsy in exchange for the safe keeping of her schizophrenic mother. She marries the warrior and quickly goes against everything she thought she knew and falls head over heels with the alien who touches her in all the right places.

Merrok is highly fond of punishment for the discretions of Betsy/Fiona and there is quite a bit of spanking going on throughout the book. The sex was hot but not inventive. I enjoy how these alien erotic romances make the male aliens basically like us though with subtle differences. The act of her lying to him comes out with absolutely no warning or explanation…it just is and readers are expected to go with it. I’m not fond of being told to simply go with it because I’m an analytical reader who needs explanations which don’t always get given in short novels.

Surrender is hot. It’s erotic. It’s full of alien goodness. I will continue to read more by Sue Lyndon as she grows into her own in the erotic romance community. I look forward to more world building in future books as we learn more about this race of aliens humans are now expected to work alongside.

I give Surrender by Sue Lyndon 3.75 stars!

Fairy stories, folk tales, fables and myths often employ anthropomorphism as a literary device to explore human feelings and emotions. Little Red Riding Hood is about a wolf planning to devour his victim - in bed, not at the dining room table. The dragon guarding the princess is the fiery creature of fear that sits in the heart of every sexual encounter. You must defeat the fear to win the prize.

In this same tradition, in "Surrender," Earth has been Conquered by the Kall. A Quisling Government of 'turncoats' rules from the White House, and earth women must wed Kall warriors in compliance with the peace treaty. Fiona Lockhart happens to be identical to Betsy Carson, the President's daughter, and is encouraged by a 'turncoat' administrator to marry the muscular Kall official Merokk - an offer she can't refuse. Her mother, Janie, suffers schizophrenia, and will, in time, commit some mad act that will bring the heavy hand of the alien force down on her. If Fiona agrees to the union, her mother will get the medical attention she needs.

Merokk isn't jubilant having to marry this alien earth woman, even if she does happen to be, as far as he knows, the daughter of the President of the United States. But it is his duty, a task he relishes as 'Betsy' submits to his regime of strict corporal punishment and she begins to discover the hidden depths of her own sexuality. It is a BDSM relationship that finds perfect harmony - until Merokk discovers Betsy Carson isn't who she claims to be and Fiona Lockhart must fight for her life.

Fiona is a single female caring for her sick mother in a post war torn Earth.
One evening two government officials pay her a visit. She is left with little choice but to accept their proposal in order to save her mother.

Merokk is a Kell warrior and according their customs the winner of a war gets to marry the females of the losing planet. He believes he is to marry the first daughter. Little does he know all was not as it seemed.

Know when I first started this I got pretry peeved within the first two chapters and more so as the story continued.
BDSM I get but this didn't feel like that. It felt more like Merokk broke Fiona.
Yeah it was all love and smiles at the end but throughout the story it felt as if Fiona was not given a choice. She was to obey in all things, at all times.
She seemed like she has a fiery spirt at the start but that quickly dissappeared and she became a total submissive.
The guy locked her in a windowless cell in the basement for 5 days ffs. No contact with anyone and her food pushed on a tray through a hatch at the bottom of the door.
When he finally decides to release her. He continues for two weeks to use her for his pleasure and treat her like shit. Yet she takes it all. Pfft.

I decided my favorite character in this was Betsy Carson, even though we didn't actually see her. Rather than allowing herself to be forced into a non-consensual total power exchange relationship, she ran. I say good for her. I hope in the sequel we find out that she is a Resistance leader fighting against the alien invasion.

So after making contact with an interstellar society, some earth miners allegedly illegally mine on some alien planet, a disaster ensues, and the aliens invade Earth on a murderous rampage. Instead of fighting back as commonly happens in this sort sort of fiction, Humanity capitulates. And the leaders are even offered a great deal: they get to stay in power while a few females are forcibly enslaved. Maybe that makes this more realistic but I found it sad.

I don't blame Fiona for anything she did - she never had a choice. Merokk I never especially warmed up to, but I guess as a bloodthirty barbarian he wasn't all bad.

If the plot sounds a lot like Demon's Captive, there is a certain resemblance but there are lots of differences as well.

Earth has lost a battle against the Kalls and as a result the daughter of the President must marry Merokk a Kall warrior. But when Betsy bails and runs away two people come up with a plan and replace her with Fiona. Fiona looks exactly like Betsy and agrees to help her when she is promised that her mother will receive the care she desperately needs. But Merokk is not as awful to look at as she feared and Fiona finds herself deeply attracted to him.

SURRENDER by Sue Lyndon gives the reader pause to think. What if there is really intelligent life out there that wants to communicate with us? What if the aliens win a war what would happen to the people here on Earth? Well if being married to a sexy Kall warrior is the result then am all for it. Readers will feel for Fiona's dilemma in that despite her best efforts she falls in love with Merokk and feels guilty for lying to him.
Merokk is a very alpha male who likes BDSM in the bedroom and finds that his wife is more then willing to do as he wants in the bedroom.

If your a fan of BDSM like I am then I urge you to give SURRENDER by Sue Lyndon a try, you will love it as much as I did.

Following a battle with an alien race, Earth surrenders and makes reparation to the Kall by marrying their high-profile women to Kall warriors. But when the US President’s daughter resists and runs away, a replacement must be found to appease the Kall. Lookalike Fiona is coerced by the US government to pretend to be the First Daughter and marry Merokk. She agrees to the pretense to get help for her schizophrenic mother.

Surrender grabbed me from the first page, and when Merokk discovered the switcheroo, you couldn’t have pried my Kindle from my hands with a crowbar. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, which I read in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. Like all Sue Lyndon books, Surrender has engaging likable heroines, strong and dominant but loving heroes, hot sex and spanking scenes. Don’t miss this one!

In a riff on alien-invaders, earth attacked first and suffers the consequences. In a treaty marriage part of the peace agreement, both the hunky alien hero and the desperate heroine are both reluctant participants who intend to make an honorable attempt at honoring their vows despite cultural differences. Throw a few conniving and self-serving politicians and resistance movement there is enough suspense to keep the plot moving while the relationship between the heroine and hero develops.

A first of a new series. It was a smooth good reading but then it felt just the same as every other sci-fi book I read lately. Nothing over the top about it and this is a problem. Sue lyndon needs to upgrade her writing. She should strive more for her books to be unique. I gave the book 4 stars because I was turning the pages to read what's gonna happen but I honestly don't see myself reading the other books in the series.

Fiona’s mom is sick and she can’t get the medicine she needs for her after the war and while living in the refugee camps. Then she is offered a way out, if she marries Merokk and pretends to be the First Daughter, Betsy Carson. Merokk however will not have a fake marriage, she will be sharing his bed and subject to his rules and discipline. What will happen when her deception is discovered? Fast-paced sci-fi read with plenty of drama and steam. Great world building. I liked it.

A simply wonderful read, great character and plot…
Fiona Lockhart was living in a camp filled with people that had run from war areas as the Kall attacked the human population, now that it was over, they had been the victors and humans had surrendered, well those that had survived and now they lived in refugee camps.
Janie was Fiona’s mother and she was suffering in the early stages of dementia and now that she was not able to get her medication her mind was slipping far more often, her outbursts
becoming more of a worry as the brutal Kall warriors marched around the camps handing out swift and at times lethal punishment.
Approached by a group known as Turncoats, those that had sold out to the Kall so that they had things far easier that other humans, they had also managed to hold on too much of their homes and worth unlike other their worth as well.
She had to pretend that she was Betty the daughter to the American president and was expected to take over her life, she knew that she was almost an exact double externally however the life she had led was not that of a privileged socialite.
This was a heavy burden as she knew nothing of Kall mating however, if ensured the health and wellbeing of her mother in a health resort she knew that she had to take this chance. The wedding was to happen within 24 hours and she knew she would not see her mother again, the heart ache and the fact she could not explain anything to her to keep the subterfuge broke her heart.
Merrok was a great warrior and now he had been told that he would not be returning to his home world but would become an Ambassador and was expected to marry the daughter of the President of the then USA, when he met her he was surprised that she appeared nothing like the socialite he had read about in the detailed dossier given to him about her childhood and adult life.
This is a wonderful read and as you follow the relationship and the feelings each of the have for each other you cannot wait to read the next page and so on, and so on….
This is a wonderfully action filled read that once you begin you will not be able to put this book down until you reach the end.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

I’m not normally one to post reviews but something about this made me want to. I usually love a dark romance there’s always something fu**ed up and awesome about them. This one however, just made me uncomfortable. It was mostly the sex which is normally one of the best parts.

It was clearly all about breaking Fiona down emotionally and psychologically and there should have been definite trigger warnings somewhere for that. And putting down dark romance doesn’t quite cover it, at least a mention of emotional, physical abuse and Stockholm syndrome would be nice. Since there isn’t consider yourself warned. There were moments, many where the H was sweet but it didn’t quite make up for the emotional abuse and the way he broke her down completely.

Fiona lived in fear that he would punish her with the strap that he kept in their bedroom as a device to threaten her with and when he actually uses it on her (without her consent) she flinches when he tries to touch her again. Then they’re magically okay because he forgives her for the lie of pretending to be Betsy. Something she was forced into to save her sick Mum. I don’t know about anyone else, but if someone brutally whipped me with a strap without my consent and then threatened to beat me until his arms fell off, I would be pissed and out the goddamn door, permanently. I don’t care how pissed off, (rightfully or not) he was.

As for the spanking scenes, I would have preferred if he had have eased her concerns before hand, explained that in their culture spanking was a normal part of sex, then made her feel comfortable, because she was clearly uncomfortable and scared. I get that it’s a dark romance I do, but consent is sexy and he’s billed as an honourable person/alien. Just because she’s his wife doesn’t mean he can do whatever he wants without consent.

I checked out a few others books by this author and I think it’s possible she just may not be right for me. Aside from the sex scenes and the emotional and psychological abuse her book was good. Solid world building and third person which I love.

Despite conquering earth, the Kall don't have a great understanding of human medical and mental health condition, making Fiona fear for the life of her mother with early onset dementia. Dubious rescue comes in the form of her physical resemblance to the daughter of the US president. Part of the peace treaty with the conquering planet, various earth leaders and daughters of earth leaders are contracted to marry Kall males. This tradition is a strange and contradictory one from the Kall. When the Kall are defeated by an enemy, some of their women have to marry members of the conquering people, which is considered embarrassing and shameful. And when the Kall defeat an enemy, women from the conquered peoples have to marry Kall males (and the women aren't supposed to feel like this is meant to be shameful or insulting.) But intercultural marriage is all about forming alliances and cultural understandings. And otherwise, the Kall have a culture similar to those of earth.

When the daughter of the president of earth runs away to avoid being married to a Kall, Fiona is coerced into pretending to be her with the promise of her mother being kept safe from the Kall, given the medication and medical care she needs, and kept in nice accommodations. Fiona enters into a series of identity issues. The trauma from the war and being displaced into a refugee camp has certainly had an impact on her. She's then asked to literally take the identity of another person indefinitely, losing the the unsteady since of self she had been clinging to. Further, she's put in a place where she has to even let go part of her identity as Betsy when she becomes the spouse of a Kall, leaving her a traumatized confused mess.

This trope of secret identities between mates was well done here; one of the best I've read!

“Surrender: A Dark Sci-Fi Romance” is the first book in the Call Alien Warriors series and it does NOT disappoint! Sue Lyndon is an amazing story teller, who throughout the book keeps us on edge but it is not mundane and predictable. Her characters weave their way into your heart and make you care about what happens to them.
The story begins after the war and Earth has been conquered by the Kall’s.
Fiona Lockhart is living in a refugee camp with her mother, Janie who is ill and not able to get her medicine. Her ill health puts her in danger, as the brutal Kall warriors march around the camp handing out swift and at times lethal punishment which cause Fiona to be constantly worried for her mother.
Questionable, rescue is presented due to her physical resemblance to the daughter of the US President. The Peace Treaty that had been signed stated, in part, that various daughters of leaders on Earth need to marry Kall warriors. Enter, Merrak! He is a great warrior and expected to return to his planet as a Hero. But, his father has told him that he would become an Ambassador and was expected to marry the daughter of the US President. Uh, Oh! Fiona has to take over the life of Betty, daughter of the US President who she knows she is almost an exact copy buuuut they have led entirely different lives! She was not a privileged socialite. Merrak was surprised when they met because she appeared nothing like the socialite, he had read about in the detailed dossier given to him about the childhood and adult life of Betty.
And the story continues to intrigue us from here with many twists, turns, suspense, romance and is fast paced. Sue Lyndon explores the relationship and feelings they each have for one other and the sacrifices they are willing to make for their families and their planet. Will they work things out? The story burns the pages from page one!! Can’t wait for the next book!

Okay, first of all: this is not a dark romance.
Unless the author considers explicit sex scenes “dark”. And no, the very light BDSM elements also don’t make it a dark romance by any stretch.

So while this mis-labelling already put me off, what really bothered me was all the wasted potential this plot had to offer but that the book didn’t deliver on.

The h and H were literal enemies!! Like, his species started a war with hers that made her end up in a refugee camp and that destroyed her home city and her political system — Earth has pretty much been colonised. And that is such a great set-up with so much conflict potential and just something that you’d think would make the h and H reluctant to marry much less fall for each other.
But no, it’s insta-lust from both sides which no one even tries to fight remotely. I think the heroine maybe once muses without much feeling behind it that she’s now sleeping with the enemy. That’s it.

So yeah, lots of lust and sex but the entire amazing plot that could have been built and that was advertised in the blurb didn’t actually take up much of the book. Like the huge conflict potential — besides them being literal enemies — of her hiding her identity from him is resolved in one tiny scene. He finds out, she apologises and THAT’S IT! Even though he warned her before that lying to him was basically the worst thing she could do, he just shrugged it off.

So yeah, my mood while reading this was huge disappointment in what I had hoped to be an exciting, dark romance full of enemies-to-lovers quarrels and a huge betrayal by the heroine but that turned out to be a meh read throughout and the burning question of: that’s it?

While Surrender ended up being different from what I expected, it is another novella by Sue Lyndon that I thoroughly enjoyed. I love reading erotic sci-fi and learning about other worlds and alien cultures, and I went in to this book anticipating something to that effect. Surrender ended up being more of a drama than an action adventure story, but I loved the tidbits gleaned about the Kall culture and hope the second Alien Warriors story follows soon. Surrender takes place entirely on a futuristic Earth, where the Kall have come to negotiate the surrender of the humans in a war they lost with them. As part of the terms, a mass wedding of forty-five Kall warriors with human women takes place at the White House, and thus we are introduced to Merokk's and Fiona's relationship. I enjoyed Merokk's commanding presence and Fiona's rational acceptance of the situation, and the underlying secrets provided great tension between them. Loving discipline and sexual chemistry are prevalent throughout the story in classic Sue Lyndon style, and I hope we get to learn more about the Kall and visit their home world soon.

Fiona is living in a refugee camp after the war between Earth and the Kal. The Kal won and now human women are becoming wives to the Kal. Fiona is approached by two government men and was promised that if she pretended to be the President's daughter, then her mother would be taken care of and brought to a special facility for her dementia. Fiona agrees and becomes the wife to Merrok, a Kal warrior who trained and lead many troops to battle. He truly takes Fiona as his wife, believing that she is someone else. The questions is what happens when Merrok discovers his wife is actually an imposter? This was a really good story and I was just waiting for that big bomb to drop. A little warning as there are some elements of spanking and punishment involved in the sexual scenes. The plot was a good pace and really brought the climax to a full peak. If you like big, strong Alpha alien males then this is the book for you.

FUCK. THIS. BOOK.

The hero mentions "ushrina" on the second chapter. My BS radar was tingling so I searched to word.

Guess what? In the hero's culture, it is legal to kill one's wife to get out of the marriage because cheating is dishonorable.

Oh, he speaks out against it, apparently, and it is oh so rare.

I've read a lot of f-ed up shit, but the MMC being legally allowed to murder the FMC if he's unhappy is not only new but turns out, worst that cheating. I was so naïve before this. I really thought the hero committing infidelity was the worst thing to find in romance... Turns out, the hero committing DV is. What a sad, bleak world we live in that people would choose this bag-of-shit, sentences-stacked-one-after-another thing to read to escape reality.

Blacklisted the author.

The whole plot is basically laid out in the blurb for the book.

A woman who would do anything to help her mother. A Kall warrior who is serving his people, even though he dreams of other things. A runaway bride. Some duplicitous goverment agents. A president trying to keep the Earth from going back to war. Bring them together in Sue Lyndon's head and she spit them out in a pretty great story. It's not action packed but it gives the feels of a daughter's love for her mother and two strangers slowly falling for each other. I loved how they handled the discovery of the real Betsy and how they resolved Fiona's deception. Merokk gets extra points for the conclusion of the story.

I want to thank the author for allowing her books on the Kindle Unlimited program. If you are looking for a quicky read with a touch of spanking (easily skipped over, if that is not your thing), grab a Sue Lyndon/Sue Mercury book and enjoy.

Fiona only wanted to make sure her mother had the medicine she needed and was safe. With what was going on in the Camps, she didn’t know where to turn. When she was given an opportunity but it meant concealing who she was. Merokk was a Kall Warrior and given the position as Ambassador. He had an arranged marriage with the human daughter of the President. Would she be willing to over look him being a warrior?
I have read this story before and there were some updates. I still love the story. Be get a bit more detailed then before. I felt for Fiona. My mother has Dementia as well as she is very hard to manage. The medication isn’t cheap. And then you have her not being herself. She had to play the role of the President’s Daughter. Mind you, she was herself but to hear Betsy and not her name, I would have broke. Merokk was a great. Yes, he was dominant but he wasn’t cruel. There was such chemistry once they got to know each other. I loved revisiting them again.
