[Siren Classic ManLove: Erotic Alternative Paranormal Romance, M/M, werewolves, HEA]
William Farris is an average werewolf from bad stock. When he shifts into his wolf form, he looks more like a mutt than a pedigree. On a mission from his alpha, he gets picked up by the dogcatcher. To add insult to his already-fragile psyche, he gets adopted almost on the spot. William would curl up and die from utter humiliation if it wasn’t his fated mate who adopted him.
Aiden McGrath isn’t looking for love. He is guarding his heart from his family, from suitors, and anything else that could possibly love him. When a scruffy dog weasels its way into his heart, Aiden is blindsided by the emotional onslaught, especially after the dog runs away.
William has to find a way into Aiden’s life as a man instead of a pet, but to do so William has to tear down the walls Aiden erected after his lover’s betrayal.
I loved the first 35% of this book. Then Aiden starts being a stupid sucker to lousy people and mistrusting and callous to William. Wanted to slug Aiden 1/4 of the time. Good thing William had true friends and had Jessica on his side or he would have been so downtrodden.
SPOILERS>>>>Overall it was pretty cute. The only thing wrecking it for me was Aiden's brother in law/ex BF and his whiny self centered insensitive sister. It was pretty weird why Tim would go out of his way to make Aiden unhappy when he obviously picked his sister over him.
So many WHYS! Why did he never change the locks all this time? Could he not have changed his cellphone number? Why is he still talking to his sister and ex? He hates going into his room-- Why did he not change the mattress and whole bed? AIDEN is wimpy and DUMB!
William comes across as an underdeveloped immature excitable puppy. Aiden... for the most part I didn't have a problem with him EXCEPT the fact that his sister stole his boyfriend and he still talks/sees them? Especially since it hurt and bothered him? And then when ex Tim trys to play them at the end.. William is not any where near Tim, who is naked, when Aiden walks in and immediately thinks cheating even thou William is fully dressed on the other side of the room. Plus Aiden had yet to change the locks or get Tim's key back.. The whole tone of the book just came across as childish to me..
Hmm, this is a strange bland story. The main storyline feels more like a play and is unrealistic. I couldn't connect with the emotions of both MC's, because simply they didn't feel genuine to me. Everything was to dramatic, sweetly and girls. There is one good word for this story "fabricated".
I really liked that the MC were both beta personalities. This book made me smile. It was somewhat predictable. I always like when one MC is smaller than the other. This time the smaller one was the stronger one.
Started and finished in one day! Wasnt able to put it down. Loved the story, the authors snarky wording of some of the characters and just the scenario in general. I mean what other book starts off with a hot man in a cage..in the pound?! Highly recommend!!
I read this in 2 hours and loved it! The characters r easily lovable to the audience but sometimes I just wanted to scream at them to pull their head out of their ass.
2.75 stars -- I got to 65% and had to stop. Main shifter character was adorable (the guy who was adopted at the pound *g*), but his love interest (Aiden) was TSTL.
This is an extremely simple story, with simple, mostly likeable characters and a well-tread setup and premise. It’s cute and relaxed me when I needed that. On the downside, the writing’s hurried and there are a lot of logical flaws that you notice if you stop for half a second to think about them.
This book could have been hugely better with more detailed writing, characterization, and more attention to the plot where it involved secondary characters. And clean viewpoints. So, in a way, this was filled with lost opportunities. However, I can’t feel too bad about this because the general tone was so simplistic. Strangely sweet at times, even.
William’s adorable. The interactions with his pack brought me joy as well. Aiden, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired. Among other things, he keeps making momentous decisions on the spur of the moment. Not that smart, and somewhat unfair.
Emotions run high here. You could easily call it melodramatic. At the same time most people who are not falling apart at that moment react in a reasonable, laid back way. Even the upsets, while intense, are not harped on in the narrative.
Seeing how I complained about this being done wrong in another book recently? This one perfectly portrays the way some people speak to their pets.
I got a question though, what’s “piecey” hair? I mean I know what hairpieces are but that’s clearly not what is meant here. >.>
Odd thing is? Aiden states early on he was already body-built when his first dog died (when he was twenty-two or so). And it’s been maybe nine years since then. But he later says that he began bodybuilding to keep people away from him. However, his disappointment with humankind happened only four years ago. Wasn’t that what spawned his antisocial tendencies?
Odd, too, how familiar Aiden is with Ben from the very first moment. Such as leaving him standing there to raid the man’s kitchen…
Heh, the romance here is on speed. Well, I suppose the soul-joining also resulted in an instant sharing of who the other person is. Makes me wonder how future books in the series will introduce tension. (Answer: apparently with misunderstandings that make zero sense, going by the rest of this book.)
How is it that this is the first time in books that include a mind link that it is used for phone sex?
The big misunderstanding is pathetic. Again, with some more attention to detail in that scene this could have been spun interestingly enough to camouflage the silliness of it.
Oh well. Clearly not a well-written book. But it provided a quick, mostly relaxing read with lots of sparkly rainbows and sugary candy clouds. Just don’t go into it with expectations of anything and you should be okay.
Drama i didn't expect in the book its why i feel some what disappointed. why keep things or talk to the people that hurt you and above all else believe a cheater over the lover hmm. all i wanted was a wolf who finds itself in a bind and by chance finds a mate, decided to woo him but still be pet until all can be revealed. blurb gives a nice fun read then DAM! drama haa wasn't in the mood for that.
This is one of those books that would have benefited from being a short story. The premise was interesting and sweet and the characters were likeable, but the writing let it down, which wouldn’t have been so noticeable if the story had been shorter. The stunted grammar and the lack of contractions didn’t allow the dialogue to flow. Also, the big misunderstanding was absolutely ridiculous, even taking into account Aiden’s insecurities.
I was really into this book in the beginning. For some reason about half way through it just got too awkward and disjointed for me. I was excited by the prospect of the book but it fell short for me. There was just too many points that didn't feel real enough for me.
