You've seen the Deen brothers, Jamie and Bobbie, on their Food Network show Road Tasted. You've heard about them from their beloved mom, cookbook author and Food Network Host Paula Dean. Now, take a vicarious road trip with these good-old-boy charmers and learn how to make their tastiest regional recipes yourself. More than a cookbook, this is a slice of • More than 100 fabulous regional recipes personally gathered by Jamie and Bobby during their travels around the country, as featured on the Food Network's Road Tasted . • Fascinating anecdotes about the characters they meet and the businesses they visit in search of the country's best food. • Jamie and Bobby's own hints, tips and shortcuts for ensuring delicious results. • Personal stories from Jamie and Bobby about growing up in the South, running a business with their mom, and adjusting to life in the spotlight. • Color photos of the recipes throughout.
I was interested in this book because I thoroughly enjoyed the television series that has the Deen Boys on the road enjoying favorites from various restaraunts across the country. I thought there would be recipes shared from some of the places they visited on the television show in this book. Alas, this is not the case.
Bearing that in mind, this is a decent cookbook with recipies INSPIRED by the places the Deen brothers visited. There is a wide variety of items represented and the pictures and plentiful. There are also stories of the restaraunts and stores that inspired the recipes. So if you are a fan of the show, you will enjoy the book.
There were a couple of standout recipes for me: the Zesty Grilled Grouper with Mango Coconut Rice, Lime-Marinated Chicken Wings with Avacado Dip, and Grilled Salmon with Key Lime Butter.
For fans of Paula Deen, the foreword of this cookbook is written by her. A proud Mama, indeed.
I am a great fan of Celebrity Chef Paula Deen, and I especially love her shows which feature her family. Her two sons, Jamie and Bobby, are both great cooks and natural TV personalities. When the brothers began a spinoff TV show of their own, I was interested to see what they would offer. Their road trips to quaint little cook-nooks and well-known landmarks, along with bakeries and delis, are entertaining and full of fabulous fuel for foodies! Their cookbook is wonderful! Great photos, recipes, stories and a whole lot of Southern charm!
I'm a vegetarian, so many of these recipes don't really apply to me, although I'm sure they're quite good. However, I do own this book because the recipes I *can* work with, being a lacto-ovo type of veg, are very solid, and I enjoyed reading about all of these places across the US with their awesome food. The photographs are enticing, and the ingredients aren't too difficult to procure.
It's a fun book. It has some really good recipes, but I really like how they traveled all over the country stopping at various restaurants and learning how they prepare and serve food. It gives you a glimpse of the various cuisines in different regions of the country.
A cookbook by Paula Deen's sons (From Lady and Sons fame) featuring a culinary road trip with regional delights from East Coast to the West Coast. Part cookbook, part travelogue with great pictures and layouts. Truffle pie, southern stuffed loaf and shrimp salad sandwiches piqued by interest.
i am a total sucker for cookbooks that are tied into food tv shows that i like. for some strange reason, i an fascinated with the deen brothers. this cookbook seems to have some pretty good recipes too.
I was pleasantly surprised by the number of recipes in this book that were kind of healthy -- or could easily be made healthier. I've heard their mom's recipes are all butter, so I wasn't expecting that. I copied at least a dozen to try.
This is an amazing cookbook! One of the best I have ever found, I got it fromt eh library originally and have made it my mission to find it at barnes and noble next time I go!!!!
