Amy Tucker is single. So single in fact she hasn’t had a man in her room for three years and her idea of a good time is buying new kitchenware at Ikea. So when she wakes up on Christmas Eve to find a strange man at the end of her bed, she is more than surprised.
Least of all, when the beautiful man claims to be Santa and has sexy stubble to rival George Clooney.
Santa whisks Amy on an exciting and unforgettable journey around the world through time and space. But can he really make Amy's Christmas dreams come true?
A lover of Christmas, romance and old movies Scarlett wrote her first Christmas romance 'The Night Before Christmas' in 2011. Her second novel 'Married by Christmas' and a digital novella 'Santa Maybe' are out now.
Oh what a wonderful, sweet and magical sleigh ride (indeed)...♥ I would give more stars if I could! Can we find someone who will turn it into a movie? Pretty please, Santa? ;) Thanks Ms. Bailey, I already had another book of yours on my to-read-list and will put the third one on it, too.
“I’ve never met a woman like you before…not one as funny, and clever, and silly and with such a ridiculous collection of shoes. I fell in love with you the first moment I saw you and I know now that I don’t want to go through the rest of time unless you are by my side. Amy tucker, will you marry me?” How could a story with such a fabulous marriage proposal be bad? Having just finished Scarlett Bailey’s ‘Married by Christmas’ I felt I needed another hit of this fabulously fun author and so I downloaded this novella, again Christmas-themed, and settled back for just a bit more of that magical, festive optimism which is seems is synonymous with this author.
Be warned, this novella is not for the cynical! It is full of fantasy and magic, and those readers with a less than active imagination might struggle to grasp the concept of a woman waking up to find Santa on the end of her bed and willingly going off into the night with him. I found what Scarlett did with the storyline refreshing. I think it is daring to write something so magical, and with such faith in a childhood fantasy for readers who would be more used to the usual romance and real-life formula normally offered by lovely authors like Bailey. I had to fully let my imagination and fantasy take over, something which can be a struggle, but I loved the idea of Santa taking Amy to see all of the places and people that she wanted to see, but also using the Dickensian trick of taking her back in time to revisit past situations and possibly mistakes.
There is humour in this mini-story as well, I absolutely loved the way Santa and Amy interacted, this line in particular, uttered by Santa, made me laugh out loud…“Blah, blah-PMT-chocaholic-biological-clock-make-mine-a-chardonay-blah.” Of course along with the humour and adventure, there is a touch of romance. Santa tells Amy right at the start of the story that she is going to find her one true love and receive the aforementioned marriage proposal, but it is not who Amy or the reader, might expect the proposal to be from. I think that this made for a really refreshing read. It was just a quick dip into the world of festive fun that Scarlett Bailey creates, and if anything, I would love to see what would have happened if this were to be expanded into a full blown novel in its own rights! It a perfect optimistic, whimsical tale to keep you occupied by the Christmas tree on a wintery afternoon…“This years Christmas wish project…I’m trying to teach her how to have a little fun, lighten up, let love in.”
(Look out for Amy and Santa making a cameo in Scarlett’s latest novel ‘Married by Christmas’)
Cute and sexy short story/novella about a lady who goes on an adventure with Santa to find her true love and maybe finds it closer to home than she realized.
"Santa Maybe" has probably the best opening chapter of any Christmas book I have read this year - I giggled several times, and I am definitely not an habitual giggler. Amy Tucker wakes up on Christmas Eve night to find Santa in her bedroom:- "You are not Santa. Santa is old and tubby, not thirty-ish and stubbly. And very much most crucially of all, SANTA IS NOT REAL!’ The man sat down heavily on her dressing table stool, causing the wobbly leg to bow a little and his hood to slip down revealing short silver tousled hair and a chiselled jaw line. ‘I blame the Victorians for that negative PR campaign,’ he said, decidedly crestfallen. ‘They never could stomach the idea of a foxy Father Christmas, I mean why would they? The didn’t approve of ankles either.’" If Amy will agree to put on an elf costume and help Santa deliver presents she will get her Christmas wish:- someone to love! It's an enjoyably cynical look at the festive season after a plethora of soft and sweet Christmas books. Santa is nothing like the traditional version - he's a smart-talking, hard-drinking man of the world with an elf costume fetish, while Amy is far from an ingénue. Before she knows it Amy is having the night of her life - moving quickly around the world and through time. Her meeting with Dean Martin and Lewis and, in the loo, with an undercover Marilyn Monroe was particularly memorable. It turns out, however, that she's not got the best Santa ever (that's another story):- "This is only my second Christmas in the job, maybe I didn’t read the manual quite as thoroughly as I should have, maybe I watched nine series of Friends back to back instead." If you are looking for a cheerful and funny Christmas book with a lot of snark and memorable one-liners ... "Santa Maybe" ticks all the boxes. Great fun! 4 Stars
I couldn't actually make myself finish this book, I made it to page 36 (which is a third of the way through). Despite all the flaws I'm going to complain about below, I imagine some people would find this book quite a fun read. If you're looking for something full of cheeky adventure and jolly festivities but not a literary masterpiece, maybe give this a go.
My favourite part was the dancing at the copacabana in 1956 - Yes please!!
COMPLAINTS AND MILD SPOILERS BELOW
- Amy seemed rather childish to me and we are rushed through her back story with little to no emotion.
- I know Santa's new to the job but I'm not sure he followed a single rule and came across as a strange mixture of uncaring yet also too emotionally involved. Confusing. I think the author was trying trying to make him sexy and mysterious as well as the perfect sensitive guy but it all got a bit muddled and he ended up as a pretty average man.
- one of the first sentences out of the hot santa dude's mouth was "you know most men prefer girls who wear less make-up"... UGH go away
- even on page 3 I was already rolling my eyes because seriously Santa doesn't exist! and even if he did, why on earth would he spend his time, on Christmas Eve no less, helping a 28 year old woman find someone to love?!... And then I realised I was being a total scrooge and the whole point of me reading this book was to feel festive so I decided to let go of logic and just accept the cheesy attractive-30-something-Santa storyline!
- "I remember that time I took Lauren Bacall out one Eve, now there's a lady who knows how to whistle." I enjoyed that little gem, until he followed with "Why don't they make dames like that any more?" Pfft, there's plenty of badass sexy women out there tyvm
- Santa called Amy "sweet cheeks" and "babe" Gross.
- Okay I know I'm nitpicking but God I am so sick of this "men are gruff and masculine but women are silly for liking homey and pretty things" bleurghh Santa complaining about scatter cushions just seemed really dumb to me - how many times in movies and tv shows have men made similar comments? TOO MANY TIMES!!! GET OVER THE CUSHIONS FOR GODS SAKE.
- I don't understand... Tells/shows her part of her future? and reenacts her future proposal?? they kiss??? I don't understand whyyyy.. I'm not even on page 15 yet.
If I only had more time right now than I would read this book in one go. It is so unexpectedly hilarious that I couldn't stop reading, but I just had to (little baby etc.:)) ). It is really warm and clever read. Although not too long but full of twists and turns, a fast pace and unexpected things happening. One must really have unlimited imagination to write something like this :) Santa was great, babe:) Although not a lot of deep explanations, I really liked Amy and her family. The adventures with Santa were funny and what more do one need for a cosy read? Will really recommend it.
This was a very sweet and quick read. I really liked the story. It was funny and witty and had me cracking up from time to time. Both characters where very likeable and the sencondary characters where lovely. Especially the Elves and Laura-Anne. :) What spoiled it a bit for me was the ending. It was too quick and too easy for my taste and slightly ridiculous. But still a very lovely Christmas read. :)
When Amy Tucker wakes to find Santa at the bottom of her bed she'd never dream the journey that awaits her. His mission is to make her Christmas wish of finding someone to love come true or he loses his job.....lots of funny twists and turns await.
This is a short, snappy read and before you have gotten into the story it's over. Great fun and won't take long to get through - I was just disappointed with the length.
A very enjoyable story for those of us happy to suspend belief. Amy is whisked away by Santa in order to be find true love - which she does, but with a most unexpected person! The twinkly setting at the end is great for the Christmas season and the book is written with a generous dollop of good humour.
Great book, easy to read and funny in places. Amy Tucker thinks she is dreaming when Santa appears in her bedroom one Christmas Eve. The story then follows Amy and Santa on a journey through her past and into her future to prove she can love the right man !!
Ale čo, kašlem na to a dám 5 hviezdičiek, síce to bolo strašne presladené a od začiatku úplne predvídateľné, ale presne to čakám od vianočnej chick-lit. Ak bonus to bolo aj vtipné a krátke, takže aj veľmi rýchlo prečítané.
Brilliant book that was released last year as a advent calender....loved it and couldn't wait for the daily piece. Now have brought the ebook o savor this Christmas... cant wait :D
This was a quirky Christmas story that I believe was first released as an advent calendar. What a wonderful idea! It read as if an excerpt was released every day and turned out to be a sweet story!
Quick read. Prepping you for the Christmas spirit. What i like the most of this book is the imagination. Never thought of santa like that. I guess santa could be anybody u want haha...
