By pretending she is falling for Edward, Bella is fulfilling Esme's dying wish. But sexy, possessive Edward can read her mind. Will she ever get into his? Can Bella forget the pain of her teenage years, and can she resist his relentless seduction? AH.
When I say Fan Fiction, you have to be sleeping under a rock if you dont think of Harry Potter, 1D fangirls, and 50 Shades of Twilight.
In 2008, when everyone on the train to work was reading "That Apple Book", I was one of those who wanted to read more. There was more. I found a fanfiction group.
With any online group of writers, you encounter writing that is so utterly atrocious you wonder if the author just sat on the keyboard and called it good.
However, I found a handful of authors that wrote AU, OOC, AH (Alternate Universe, Out of Character, All Human) stories. Stories so good, in fact, the writing and characters still stick with me more than 6, 7 years later. How so, you ask? Isnt this the same in a bookstore? Some good writing and some bad.
Some will blow your mind and change your life. This is such a story.
Ive read the big, the epic, sweet, mysterious, or stories written with amazing prose and depth. Wide Awake, Breaking News, Volition, Swirl and Daisy, Darnay Road, How To Save A Life, Died and Gone To Heaven....the list is long and incredibly talented. Ill unabashedly admit, Ive probably read a good 500-600 stories. Fanfic can be more than 50 shades of Did I Really Pay For This?
If you are remotely curious and want to read a tale written with character, suspense, romance, and first loves, I highly recommend this story. And when it comes out someday in hardback, Ill be the first in line. Yes. It IS that good.
Refreshingly different storyline. A gem among the many fanfics out there. My only complaint, if you can even call it that, is I want to read more. An epilogue would have made it perfect. 5 stars. May bump it to 10 if the author writes a futuretake at some point. Loved this so much and I'm sad its over!
Wow, what an amazing fanfic! I am speechless right now. The Blessing and The Curse is very emotional story. Author has a beautiful way with the words and I immediately fell in love with her story. The storyline was so original that if characters did not have Twilight names I would never guess it was based on Twilight series.
On the outside, Edward is over-possessive, rude, over-confident with “irrational heart”. In the inside, he is very intense person with bizzare logic behind his actions but with deep deep feelings for the ones he loves. He may be strange but noone loves as strong as he does. Bella, as always, cannot resist Edward even though she is affraid of the intensity of his feelings. What Bella and Edward had in this story, was so intense and fullfilling . Literally, they were like one soul living in two bodies. But would it be enough to overcome all the damage that happened in the past?
The main theme of this story is idea about soul mates and about finding the other half. Some parts of this story were so sad and painful that I could not stop the tears. I highly recommend this story to all people who like to read thoughtful emotional books.
does a fanfic count as a book? oh well, i’m counting it anyways. i love a brooding MMC but sometimes it can get a little repetitive lol which is why it’s a good thing that sally thorne was so good at giving him some redeeming qualities. i was looking for spicy twilight & i got it so i had a fun time!
Why do i keep re-reading this fan fiction when there are so many unread books waiting and begging for my attention?
I can't even begin to answer that unfortunately. Because I really really love this fanfic. I wonder why the author doesn't edit it and publish it as a novel. I know so many Twilight fanfics that did great on their own and even started their own fandoms.
Angsty, possessive and an Edward-in-pain is a forever favorite. Don't ask me why. I love the transition from the first to the last chapter. The main characters are on wholly different power-scales by that point.
The mind reading and that telepathic connection spin is a good one too. And childhood sweethearts is a super precious trope in all situations.
I have a feeling I might be re-reading it again a few months from now.
God! This fanfic is EXACTLY what its title says --- The Blessing and The Curse.
This was an oldie but a goodie. The idea of loving someone or something so much that you wish you didn’t is one I think about often. It’s like an addiction that can either make you immortal or quickly kill you. It’s interesting to see it here with characters I know and love. 14 years later and it still stands up as a refreshingly unique and beautiful read.
It is painful to think that Fifty Shades of Grey got published when there is such a wonderful story as this one. The characterization of the characters was familiar but also somewhat new. Somehow this envisioning of Edward was edgier than the vampiric version and this Bella was infinitely more tolerable. The author really made the characters and their story come to life. This interpretation was creative and, with minor tweaking, could stand on it's own (copyright infringement aside).
The style was not necessarily my taste, it was extremely flowery and poetic, but I could appreciate the tone. Of course, romance isn't really my bag and so I couldn't help but cringe when things got too lovey-dovey and dramatically amorous, but of course these things are expected. Also, I would categorize the romance as much more Wuthering Heights than Meyer ever achieved. It was artfully written and never too mawkish.
I'm also not one for erotica...I know what you're thinking...You don't like romance, you don't like erotica, what the hell are you reading this for?! Well, I'm one of those people that likes Twilight, and I'm not ashamed (I'm a little bit ashamed) to say it. I don't, however, care for erotica. I just can't take it seriously, it always comes across as cheap and insincere, and to be honest, a bit boring. I don't find it all that interesting, most of the time it's pretty much the same. He puts this there, she puts this there...so on. I'm much more interested in the tension and chase. What I liked about this story was that it was just that a story. Most of the time (E.L. James I'm looking at you) the story aspects of erotic fiction are secondary, almost an afterthought.
I did find this book to be a little uneven, it felt like the author started out wanting to write something erotic but as the story progresses this element became less and the less and the characters became more. This is a good thing! The first few chapters were interesting but this story definitely got better as it went on, it really gained momentum.
For what this is, it is very good. When something is published as it is being written it is never going to measure up to something that has been thoroughly edited from end to end several times. In part, this is really what makes this story so impressive. Despite a slight shift in tone and focus, the story is cohesive, complete, and well developed. I very much enjoyed reading it and was left wanting more.
I really loved this twilight fanfic. When Bella was a teen, she escaped what she thought was a unhealthy friendship with Edward. They had a connection that no one else understood but Edward was too possessive while at the same time never committing to only her, so she ends up getting hurt a lot. And oh yeah! He can read her mind. Years later, she comes back engaged to another man, finally content in the fact that she has a choice in the matter. Little does she know that being someone's soulmate doesn't mean no choices, it just means he's the better choice.
There was plenty of butterflies, angst, an annoying love triangle. I must admit to wanting to kick Bella's ass a few times.
I've read this Twilight-AH-fanfic at least 5 times and I love it more and more every time. Each time I finish I'm sad that it's over. My 10 stars fanfic, my all-time favorite ! Angst, romance, original characters, a creative storyline and an unexpected twist... This isn't simply writing, this is art. The author has a way with words that is truly incredible ! The metaphors she uses are beautiful. I often wonder why this outstanding fanfic wasn't published a long time ago - I would preorder it as soon as it was announced. I recommend it to everyone who loves to read an excellent romance - you don't have to like Twilight to love this story.
Great story, I hated Edward to start with but then you start to learn more about him and you start to like him and why he acts the way he does. You just want them to end up together.
This story has been haunting me since the first time I've read it a couple of years ago. It's probably the fifth time now but my reactions to it is always the same : I fear, I ache, I suffer, I love together with the characters. Even written as a fanfiction to Twilight, this story has nothing to do with it, It is simply onto another level and certainly deserves to be published.
