Allison Cassatta brings us 13 stories by various authors .As children, we feared the boogeyman… Our parents comforted us when the monster under the bed or in the dark depths of our slightly opened closet threatened our safety. We cried when those evil creatures invaded our nightmares and stole us from peaceful sleep, but what if those monsters truly existed? What if they lived in a world not unlike our own, where all they wanted was the same basic needs that every human being spends their lives searching for? What if the things that go bump in the night only wanted to be loved? In the next twelve stories, you will read about vampires and werewolves, angels and demons, and monsters of all kinds overcoming some of the most difficult hurdles simply to find their one true love, to find their happiness. You’ll read of heated, salacious trysts beneath the moonlight and of lovers doomed before they even have a chance to find the one person who completes their soul. Join us as we wander through a dark world where nothing is what it seems, where rainbows after a storm are a rare miracle, where the boogeyman captures your heart and fulfils your sweetest dreams.
I want to start of by saying a big congratulations to everyone who took part in writing this book. Every story was completely different. I enjoyed reading this and I'm not just saying that because a few of my friends have stories in it. Each one left me wanting more. I just wish that the stories were longer. This book is a definite must read.
I am really enjoying the stories of the anthology Evernight: Volume II. There is one story in particular I really wanted to review though because I just loved it.
The story is Serpentine by: Rory Ni Coileain
In this story a young princess is being told a bedtime story about the mythological Lamias. I have to admit, in many of the stories I have read, there is mention of Lamias, and they are usually the protagonists. Never have I read one with the Lamia as the main character. So the idea of a story about one was intriguing. I was sucked in from the first paragraph. It is a short story yet I didn’t feel cheated. There is a very clear conflict and resolution. It is so hard sometimes for me to like short stories because often I feel cheated. That was not the case in this story.
At first I thought this was going to have a bad ending. Even if it had I still would have been pleased because any story that evokes emotion, good or bad, is great in my eyes. The setting is vaguely medieval with paranormal elements. A short and sweet romance, I recommend that you pick up this anthology. If you buy it to read this story you won’t be disappointed and there are many others that are worth a look.
I loved all the stories in this book. I would love to see a couple of them expanded into bigger stories. A couple even had me with tears in my eyes. To Allison, you chose a great group for this book.
One thing is certain about the stories in this book, they all leave you wanting more. Each was captivating in their own special way and it made turning the pages fun and exciting. I hope to see more like it in the future.
