Dynamic Karate: Instruction By the Master

Rate this book
Most books on karate usually do not provide complete, detailed instructions and illustrations-the fundamentals plus the fine points-that readers hope for. This book fills the gaps left by others.
The late Master Masatoshi Nakayama, chief instructor of the Japan Karate Association, left this book as a testament. It reveals his great experience as a karate competitor and teacher, describing and illustrating in detail all the correct movements involved in the particular block, punch, or kick you want to perfect, as well as instructions--on combining blocking techniques with decisive counterattacks. Also included is a glossary of all Japanese karate terms and a guide to their pronunciation.
Because of the lightning speed of karate techniques, normal camera work often fails to record the action accurately. For this reason, many of the photo sequences found in Dynamic Karate were taken using a stroboscope with a flash time of 1/10,000 of a second, enabling you to follow each movement as it is actually performed.

Virtually the "bible" of modern day JKA-style Shotokan karate. This along with the Best Karate Series should be on every Shotokan stylist's bookshelves.

This book was well written. I did not find any fault with the text, and did find some insights into some of the moves, especially with regards to the multiple ude and uke techniques presented. I suppose that if I was able to see advancement of techniques within the dan ranks I would have rated it higher. It really is a book to make it to 1st dan. Of course, reading and practicing only from a book will never get you there...

Libro in edizione italiana.

One of the best shotokan books. Great photos.

Impressive but outdated. Obviously the karate performed is very skilled, but the black and white photos are little difficult to examine and the text is a little dated. Overall good though.

Excellent break down and examination of Karate technique. Something new to learn every time you open this book, no matter how many times you go back to it.
