Lois Metzger was born in Queens, New York City. Three of her five young-adult novels take place in Belle Heights, an invented Queens neighborhood that is boring on purpose to stand in stark contrast to the dramatic life of her characters. She has also written two nonfiction books about the Holocaust, and has edited five anthologies of original short stories. She lives near Washington Square Park in New York with her husband, son, and a tuxedo cat. Someone once told her that black-and-white cats were the best, which she thought made no sense. Now she's a believer.
I read this sometime ago in like February. I like how it's different stories in one, well, two books. It's not all that scary, just a little suspenseful. I like it
I was loaned a copy of this by a young neighbor and figured, what the heck? Might as well give it a try ... it's good for a writer to read ALL genres of literature.
Given the YA nature of the book, these stories were actually quite good.I really enjoyed Anasazi Breakdown, the Skeleton Keeper, and Perpetual Pest, which stood out as both creepy and fun to read. And I also read a story by R.L. Stine, an author who started having hits when I was already in college, for the first time, and it was pretty darn good.
The stories were really cute and my son seemed to enjoy them as well. My favorite side to read was Bites, but I liked all the stories included. I also like how they included about the authors after each section.
If you love supernatural phenomena, this book is a lovely collection of scary stories. It will keep you up all night (in the best possible way) and leave you wanting to read more.
