[Siren Classic Erotic Alternative Paranormal Romance, M/M, vampires, shape-shifters, HEA] Adam Galindo finds himself in Zaragoza, Spain, accompanied by his mother, Susan, to attend a memorial service for his father, Pascual. Fighting heartbreak but trying to keep a brave face for his mother, Adam decides to tour the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar for a daytime diversion with his mother. What Adam discovers, while gazing at frescoes and watching Susan light a few candles in her husband's honor, is that he is the reincarnated Count of Aragon, Aznar Galindez, onetime savior of the city and vampire hunter. And he knows this is true because Emerico Espiritu, a Spanish vampire with one hell of a sexy smile and an even sexier attitude, has told him so. Between accepting his new role in life and kicking Romanian vampire butt, Adam finds himself learning the ins and outs of vampire hunting when he's not practicing a little in and out of his own under the tutelage of Emerico Espiritu. ** A Siren Erotic Romance
Alex Carreras believes there is nothing sexier than a hot, naked man with a cocky attitude and a sultry smile. Always on the hunt for inspiration, you will find Alex wherever there are attractive men, hopefully in a state of undress. And since he lives in South Florida where the average yearly temperature is a balmy 82 Fahrenheit, there is certainly no shortage of inspiration.
I'm not a big fan of paranormal romance but I am a fan of the M/M genre and of Alex Carreras so I decided to give The Count of Aragon a whirl. The fact that this book is a contemporary story swayed my decision as well. I quickly found myself caught up in this story and enjoying every minute of it. That's largely due to the way Alex writes. He has a way of putting his readers at ease and immersing them smack dab in the middle of the story. I read quite a few M/M authors and I enjoy all the ones I read, but I think because Alex is a gay man his intimate scenes always ring a little truer.
Adam Galindo is in Zaragoza, Spain with his mother to attend a memorial service for his late father. He soon finds out that he's there for way more because he is the reincarnated Count of Aragon, Aznar Galindez. Soon events and actions from his childhood start to make sense and then he meets Emerico Espiritu, a Spanish vampire who plans to show him way more than how to use the weapons he'll need to rid Zaragoza of the Romanian vampires.
Adam is such an easy guy to like. He is so unassuming and being told you are a reincarnated Count can no doubt mess with your mind. I enjoyed watching him accept and take on his new role to save his father's hometown. Emerico is a little harder to read but rightly so as he's a vampire with hundreds of years experience behind him. Because Adam is his reincarnated lover he feels an instant connection and at times I worried that he might be using Adam but it soon became evident his feelings are for Adam not his former lover. Their intimate scenes are frenzied, sexy, and tender all rolled into one. I found the added sexual enhancements that come from being a vampire truly inspiring.
Even though I've never been a fan of this genre, I found the Count of Aragon to be a highly entertaining and enjoyable story. The characters were interesting and I can't wait to see what's in store for Adam's cousin Jose and Leandro. I also appreciate that while there was a sense of danger in this story there is some humor to lighten the mood when necessary. Alex Carreras has given us a fascinating look into the world of vampires with a sexy M/M love story thrown in for good measure, well done!
Adam Galindo is instantly mistaken for Aznar Galindez, the count of Aragon, when he arrives in Spain with his mother. Adam is here in Spain to help spread his father's ashes. Emerico Espiritu a handsome, dark stranger who takes an instant liking to Adam, Emerico's reincarnated lover. Emerico is a wet dream of a man who has a few secrets. Before Emerico can act on his feelings he must first show Adam, who is a constant temptation, his destiny as the previous vampire hunter Aznar. Alex Carreras writing is very descriptive and gives the reader a beautiful visual of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar through Adam's eyes. His writing is smooth and detailed giving us a clear view of what it's like to fall in love with a vampire under the starry skies of Spain. I found myself cheering as Adam and Emerico try to save the city, Zaragoza, from a rampaging clan of Romanian vampires. The only glitch I discovered in the book is a decision Adam makes in the end, the choice appears out of character from what Adam had stated earlier in the book (I would further define but I don't want to spoil the fun). The decision is justified and honestly I applaud Adam's choice but still slightly out of his character. Emerico and Adam fit together like two pieces of a perfect puzzle. The characters had chemistry and instant attraction from the first moment they see each other. The connection between the characters is powerful from the beginning and continues to grow as Adam and Emerico work together to save the vampires, el Fraternidad. Plus there are hot love scenes that are both sexy and touching. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a unique twist on vampire myths in the beautiful country of Spain with two hot men who kick butt! I am very excited and looking forward to the sequel!
4.5 stars. Reincarnation seems like such a natural idea in a world where nature recycles everything. But past lovers uniting in a new life, well, that's a trickier topic since there's two layers to the person: the present and the past. Many authors handle this poorly, with the current one all but vanishing as the long dead personality takes over. This is especially bad when it comes to romance, since it feels like spirit possession.
Not in this instance though. Yeah, there's some comparisons made between what happened between the two lovers before and what's happening now, but I don't think it was too much.
Adam was sweet, and I liked him a lot. The sex scenes were hot! I can't put my finger on it, but they just kind of rang true to me. The plot starts with a bang, with Spanish vamps trying to fight a group of Romanian vamps. The mythos seems to give a lot of room for action and suspense, plus giving the characters background and motivations, which is always good.
Spain comes alive in the story, drawn with vivid images that make me think Mr. Carreras has been to all these places, even if not with a vampire paramour. The start of the book was a bit rambling but about halfway through I was enthralled in the story. It's good to know there's more to come in this series, as it ends in a sort of HFN.
I actually really liked this book. A few parts in the beginning were going too fast that it almost seemed like rambling but reading just a little further, I felt it evened out and then kept a nice reading pace. Once I got halfway I read it through to the end. :) Very enjoyable, Also, only slightly... mm... I'm gonna say miffed at how he kept comparing Adam and things they did together to Aznar. Though, it wasn't enough to keep me from continuing it. By the end, I feel a little in love with the characters. LOL... I say a little because it was left in a HFN (kind of) and so I look forward to reading the sequel and the rest of the series! :D
*If it was a stand-alone I would have a different opinion but since It's not, some things are probably covered in the other books so I'm quite happy by this book and it's end.
I don't know if it was the writting that "sounded" kinda amateurish if gramatically well written, but I just couldn't get into this story. I tried to force myself to read it but gave up halfway through the book...
