This is a love story of Shitu, a child widow with pure heart and of Visu, a boy with bravado of youth and a soft heart. The story starts when Shitu, a two time child widow, is given shelter by Visus father. The entire story revolves around both of them, their world, and their unspoken relationship.

About the author

G.N. Dandekar, (Devnagari: गो.नी. दांडेकर ) popoularly known as "Go.ni da" in marathi literature is one of the prominent writer of historical fictions & some real good biographical novels, Most of his books are also good travelogues including trekking data detailing almost minute information about the place & history associated with it.

He was honoured with a D.Litt degree by university of Pune.

शाळेत याच नावाचा एक धडा आम्ही शिकलो होतो…

काही दिवसांपूर्वी पूर्ण कादंबरी वाचायला मिळाली….

खूप सुंदर…जुन्या गावांतल्या वातावरणात कल्पनेतच का होईना जगण्याचा अनुभव देणारं हे पुस्तक आहे.

अंत सुखद आहे का दुखद यावरून वाचनाच्या आनंदाची उंची कमी वा जास्त ते ठरत नाही,ठरवूही नये !

तेथपर्यंत नेणाऱ्या प्रसंगांचं सौंदर्य दुखद का असेना, केवळ अप्रतिम आहे…

She loves him, he loves her. She is caring, loving & calm, he is rude & carefree. On the face of it, he does not love her at all, however deep inside his heart he too shares some feelings for her. Shitu is a child widow & gets married once again to a this man called Visu. It becomes intersting to read how she manages to live with him. Award wining book, heart touching story, lively characters & easy seamless language of GN.all bundled at one place named Shitu.

It is a love story of a child widow and a boy from a higher socioeconomic status. As it is based somewhere around 1930s, the perspectives of people back then looking at a widow were not welcoming. It talks about the struggles a widow had to establish her place in the society. The story revolves around this widow, the boy and their unspoken love. Since it's based in Konkan, the writer has beautifully depicted the region's charm.

गो नि दांच्या लेखणीतून उतरलेली वाढलेली शितू अक्षरशः वाचकांच्या डोळ्यासमोर उभी राहते आणि जगते, मन हेलावून टाकते आणि शितू इतकेच लक्षात राहतात ते अण्णा आणि विसू.
दीनानाथ दलालांची चित्रे तर भन्नाट, वास्तवदर्शी.
कित्येक चित्रे तर संबंध प्रसंग आणि भावना जिवंत करणारी आहेत.
अतिशय संवेदनशील चित्ररूपी कादंबरी जी वाचायला आणि पाहायलाच हवी अशी.

गोनिदा यांची शितू ही एक सुंदर आणि करुण कादंबरी.. अप्रतिम भाषा आणि वास्तववादी समाज वर्णन यांचा सुंदर मिलाफ. नक्की वाचावं असं हे पुस्तक.

भाबडी, थोडीशी घाबरट, अब्रूला जपणारी शितू; उन्मत्त, धीट,निर्दयी वाटेल असा वागणारा, पण तरीही मनानं संवेदनशील असलेला विसू; शांत आणि प्रेमळ स्वभावाचे, पण प्रसंगी कठोर निर्णय घ्यायला मागेपुढे न पाहणारे आप्पा, लक्षात राहतात. जाणूनबुजून किंवा ओढूनताणून दुःखद केलेली नसल्यानं, गोनीदांची “शितू” शोककथा असूनही वास्तववादी वाटते. एका नाजूक प्रेमाचं पावित्र्य जपणारी ” शितू ” वाचण्यासारखी आहे.

गो.नी. दांडेकरांनी मानसकन्या शितू हिची कहाणी.
बालपणातच दोनदा विधवा झालेली,विसूदादावर पवित्र्य प्रेम करणारी - अण्णांची दत्तक कन्या शितू.
दांडेकरांनी "शितू" मध्ये बद्ध केल्या आहेत समाजातील घातक रूढी परंपरा आणि त्यांचे निष्पाप जीवांवर होणारे परिणाम,त्यांच्या आयुष्याला कलाटणी देणारे प्रसंग सोबतच एक अशी प्रेमकहाणी जी ह्यदयाचा ठाव घेते.

अलंकारीक भाषा आणि लेखणीची प्रतिभा जेव्हा एकत्र येऊन एक सुमधुर रचना घडवतात अशा वेळी शितूचा जन्म होतो. हृदयाला स्पर्श करून जाणारी एक पवित्र पण नाजूक प्रेमकहाणी शितू पेक्षा सुंदर असू शकेल यावर माझा विश्वास बसने कठीण आहे.
