This was an entertaining story up to a point. It was written well except for the minor editing errors. The author tells an engaging adventure story but there are a few things I didn't care for.
The middle of this book is seriously lacking in action. I was about three quarters into the book and became a little bored. There was just nothing going on. I feel like there needed to be more action less waiting going on. I mean Ch'dwen was dead for a year and it's like nothing really happened during that time. Well things happened but nothing exciting.
The other thing I think could have been done better is the love interests. If this is part of a series I think having all the characters "hook up" all in the first book seems too easy.
I also had a hard time reconciling that this was supposed to be set in 31 B.C. I completely forgot that part until the outlanders said something about the world being flat. Fantasy book and all I get but maybe don't give a real life date and place to start maybe.
