I’m a writer for children and teenagers. My books include the novel Me Suzy P and the picture book Baby Badger's Wonderful Night. I’ve written a lot of books too, ones that didn't have my name on, on all sorts of subjects. Things like mermaids, fairies, cars, teenagers, princesses and super heroes, plus heaps of other stuff I’ve probably forgotten.

Five Facts About Me:
1. I’m a walking disaster area and completely accident prone. My nose got broken in a tickling fight and my arm ended up in a plaster cast after an incident opening a window.

2. My favourite words are eclectic and catkin.

3. When I was at university, everyone said I looked like the twins from B*witched. (Google them. I couldn’t wear dark denim for years).

4. I've done heaps of random jobs, including stuffing Christmas crackers and covering hundreds of library books in sticky backed plastic.

5. My party trick is the ability to fluently mirror write. I would show you, but it doesn’t really work on a keyboard.

Ten books I like:

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Ann Brashares

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, JK Rowling

Elsewhere, Gabrielle Zevin

Diary of a Wombat, Jackie French

Any of the Little Grey Rabbit books, by [auhtor: Alison Uttley]

The Princess Diaries, Meg Cabot

Henry VII, [Author: HM Castor]

The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins

The Last Countess, Eve Edwards

A Little Princess, Francess Hodgson Burnett

What can I say? This is a contemporary romance that I instantly fell in love with.
Suzy's life is hilarious, the life that only happens in books and movies :) It was a easy read and enjoyable. I love the way she thinks inside her head, and her description! Oh, it's delicious, and if there is a hilarious moment, I was SO into it!
Such a fun read

You know how I'm always saying chick-lit/contemporary books aren't my thing? Well, on this occasion, feel free to call me a hypocrite because I LOVED this book. Now, if you've stuck by this blog long enough to know how stubborn I usually am when it comes to reading these genres, you may be thinking: Rachel, why did you even pick up a chick-lit book in the first place?! Well I have the lovely Cliona over at Bookster Reviews to thank for that! Cliona posted an excerpt of this book a couple days ago and, hey ho, I loved the excerpt so much so that I instantly bought and downloaded the book on to my Kindle app yesterday, read it in only a number of hours and now need to fan-girl about how much I loved it with all of you. It was that amazing! xD

I don't think I'm ever going to get over just how exciting this book is to talk about! And it's a chick-lit book at that! I'm literally bobbing up and down like a lunatic just thinking about it. Seriously though, a book that can make me laugh as hard as this one definitely deserves a medal. As well as one that can make me cringe as much too! It was unreal the amount of times I had to calm myself down before I woke up the whole house laughing my head off, let alone how many times I had to hide under a pillow cringing at something Suzy had done. She was so accident-prone it was hilarious! Believe me when I say, if you're ever in a sour mood, read this book. I bet you anything it will brighten up your day! :P

The main character, Suzy, is your not-so-average, average teenage girl. I just adored her! She was the perfect narrator for a story such as this and I can't imagine Saunders ever having made up a better main character. Suzy was stubborn, compulsive, bold, vulnerable... I don't think there are any teenage girls out there that couldn't relate or empathise with her - even if it's just a little bit! After the first couple chapters I was pretty sure that I was going to prefer Zach over Danny but as I got further and further into the story I knew this wasn't going to be the case. So another character I grew to love was Danny. There was so much more to him than what I first thought. I also enjoyed both Millie and Jamie's characters and found their relationship really sweet. ^.^

Boys, bullies, family troubles... There's something really quite realistic to this book that teenagers can easily appreciate. There's also had a few twists thrown in to keep the attention of the reader and, even though I did guess one, I still felt for the characters when it was revealed. And the ending to this book? The author rounded it off perfectly! It left me with a smile on my face that refused to budge for hours. If all chick-lit/contemporary books are like this one then I've certainly been missing out! I really hope that this wasn't just a one-off though, because I now have high hopes for this genre! ;)

In conclusion, I loved Me, Suzy P and I easily recommend it to anyone willing to give it a go. Even if you were like me who tried to avoid the chick-lit genre at all costs, give it a go. You might end up loving it as much as I did after all! If you don't, feel free to blame me! Not only is this book funny - hilarious, even - it's also heart warming, relatable and will have you smiling like a lunatic at the end. There's a great range of multi-dimensional characters as well and Suzy is easily loveable. I'll definitely be checking out more of Saunders books if she decides to bring out any more - which I hope so! :D

Me, Suzy P is a highly entertaining glimpse into the life of the lovable titular character. I absolutely flew through this book. I salute you, Karen Saunders, for making me laugh and giving me a true taste of teenage woe.

The unfortunately named Suzy Puttocks is a normal fourteen year-old girl. She's been with her boyfriend Danny forever, and along with her best friend Millie and her boyfriend Jamie, they form a close knit little friendship group. She's got embarrassing parents, a wedding-obsessed older sister and an annoying prankster of a younger sister. All in all though, life seems pretty normal, until the new boy Zach catches her eye and she decides to shake things up a bit.

Suzy decides that her relationship with Danny is lacking its former spark and makes a decision to break it off. To add to this, she has to pretend to be happy to wear a horrendous bridesmaid’s dress at the request of her tacky celebrity-obsessed older sister Amber and gets teased mercilessly by the resident school mean girl Jade, who is Danny's new girlfriend. New flame Zach is flaky and she feels like she's losing her other friends (not to mention the chance to see her favourite band in concert) in her break-up with Danny. Don’t let all this teenage drama fool you though, and I can't stress this enough because the story truly was hilarious. The situations Suzy finds herself in because of her klutziness had me cringing and laughing out loud a lot.

The book remained light-hearted and fun mainly because Suzy is a wonderful narrator and character, and it wouldn't have worked if it wasn't for her snarky and lovable point of view. Her voice is uniquely teenage, with all the misunderstandings, self-focus and embarrassment that go along with it. She was definitely endearing and I rooted for her and her happiness throughout the story. I also found myself seriously craving hot chocolate every time Suzy had some. They should sell packs of the stuff with the book!

In fact, Saunders gave each character so much personality that I enjoyed them all. Danny was great for Suzy and I unexpectedly loved him. I was so ready to root for Zach, but it was Danny who worked his way back into Suzy's (and my) heart! It’s refreshing to see the love interest actually developed throughout the book, so kudos to the author. Millie and Jamie make great foils for Danny and Suzy, as a loved-up, functioning school couple and as friends with good advice. The ‘who gets the friends in the break-up' scenario was really well done and took me back to my petty teenage years!

I was also pleasantly surprised by how the story turned out. I put my hands up and plead guilty to assuming a predictable plot, but it was unexpected and so much better than I originally envisaged. Again, I love the fact that the story pulls you in with its characters and really has you invested in them.

All in all, it was a great read and I highly recommend it if you're in the mood to laugh and relive your teenage years!

Me, Suzy P is a fun entertaining read from debut author Karen Saunders. The protagonist Suzy Puttock is an engaging character. Her voice is that of a typical fourteen year old who is a total disaster magnet and I found myself laughing out loud many times at some of the predicaments Suzy found herself in.

The storyline circles around protagonist Suzy and her mixed up love life and crazy family. Suzy has been best friends with Danny for, forever and they are now dating, he was her first kiss, her first love. But now the feelings she had for him have started to change, she feels something is missing between her and Danny. Suzy is very confused when she starts to like a new Zach even though she is with Danny, these feelings cause a whole lot of trouble for Suzy!

There are many great characters in Me, Suzy P. We have Suzy's crazy family, mum, dad and sisters Harry and Amber. Harry is a pratical joker and causes all matters of trouble for Suzy. Amber, Suzy's older sister is getting married and has gone totally crazy with it. Think horrible bridesmaid dresses, pink, pink and more pink, oh yeah and chihuahua's! We also have Jamie and Millie, Danny and Suzy's best friends, their also a couple and the total opposite of Danny and Suzy, they are all loved up! Millie is a great character, she's funny, a great friend to Suzy and addicted to jelly babies (who isn't). We also have Jade, the popular girl at school, pretty and popular but a total bit*h. The drama invovling Suzy's crazy love life involves Jade and this not a good thing!

Overall, Me Suzy P is a fun read from a great debut author. It took me a weekend to read as I kept wanting to know what was going to happen to Suzy next. This book is a great reads for teens aged 12-14 years old, however I am 24 and I found it a funny, engaging and fresh contempoary read. Karen Saunders is an author I would compare to Cathy Cassidy and I expect even more great things from her in the future!

4.5 stars. Note: I read this book in Dutch, but I want to write an English review so everyone knows what I thought of this book.

For some reason it took me quite a bit of time to get through the book. I had a busy day, so that also counts why I am slow, but for some reason I just couldn't get through the book. This doesn't mean it is a bad book, on the contrary I loved it.

Suzy is a great character, she is silly, hilarious and at times so dramatic, making a bigger deal then things are supposed to be. She has a big family. She has 2 sisters (one older and one very young), parents, and since her sister is marrying her boyfriend often pops up as well. Often she wishes for more quiet en peace, and at times she wishes that her little sister would stop bugging her and stop stealing her phone. But she also loves her family, you can clearly see that. She doesn't always show it, at times she is grumpy (but that fits with her age, and also with the fact that anyone would go crazy with all the wedding frenzy going on).
She has a wonderful boyfriend named Danny, with whom she has been together for a long time. A big chunk of the book is about her feelings for Danny, she is confused by them. On the one hand she likes Danny, but on the other hand she can't help but noticing things that she wishes were different. Things like that he doesn't show affection in public, that it often feels that he doesn't care about her or what she does and there are also a few other things.
At times this dilemma got a bit annoying and at times I just wanted to shake her. Tell her she is still young, she still has all the time of her life to figure out stuff. That she won't be stuck for life to one guy, unless of course she will love him even through high school and afterwards.
I can also imagine that she was confused with her feelings for Jack. He is quite handsome (though that is his only good quality, more on that later).
I wish she had been more honest and didn't feel the need for taking revenge on Danny with Jack.
Suzy really has a busy life and I just laughed at a lot of parts, and just wanted to cheer her up in other parts.

Then we have Mirthe, Suzy's best friend. I did like her, I loved how protective she was over Suzy, and how she tried her best to help her best friend when things went to hell. But she also has to pick sides now that that happened with Suzy and Danny. Danny is still her boyfriend's best friend, and she has to pick between them, and that didn't always go OK.
I loved how she could just rant forever about clothes and I just had a big laugh when Suzy just took her clothes to Mirthe so they could share. Why would I laugh for that? Well, read the book and I guarantee you will laugh and shake your head as well. :)

Danny, I have to be honest and say that I didn't see why Suzy and him were together. I just didn't see a spark. They seemed great friends, but that is actually all I could see. Maybe if he was a bit more affectionate, and maybe a little less happy to see Suzy's little siter, maybe if he would just get all the hints that Suzy wants a bit more, maybe then I would have liked him. For now, not that much. Later on though, especially the last part? Yes, I started liking him there. He became much more open and way cuter.

Harry, one of the worst characters in this book. Even worse than Janine. I hated how she did all those tricks. Tricks are fun at times, but if someone says no, don't continue, don't do all that. It is not funny and I hated how the parents just blatantly choose to pick her side and not listen to anyone else. I am sure that is also why Harry became this monster that she is today. Spoiled rotten, getting a lot of attention, parents who just don't care, yeah, that is a good idea. I wish she would have gotten some sort of punishment and that the parents would have listened to Suzy for once.
Her obsession with Suzy's boyfriend was also creepy, just like the fact that she likes to steal her sister's phone to message/call him. Maybe she has a brother-complex, but it still felt weird.

Janine was the second worst character, together with Jack. Dear Lord, those two are just your typical popular guy/girl bullying/teasing other people because they are (according to themselves) so perfect and everyone else is a loser. The last part of the book only made me dislike them even more. It was just sad that they would go this far to do stuff.

The story is really fun, and while at times hilarious, it is at times also really real. Suzy is really starting to become a teenager and with that she has enough problems. Her constant battle with hair and pimples, with feelings for boys, her arguments with her parents and much much more.

The wedding was really fun and I just had to laugh so loud when Amber and Mark made that announcement. :)

All in all, I am delighted with this book, and I just bought this one and also the second book in English. Can't wait to read them in English and see what is changed, I guess a lot, since translators here like to Dutchify all the books. :\ Some changes I can understand, but most of them? Not really. With a lot of things being so global, I don't see the reason to make something totally Dutch in each and every way.

But all in all, I would highly recommend this book to everyone!

It's funny , complicated (in a good way ) , also one of my almost-favourite books and I just love everything in this book . The author made me feel with the main character which I really appreciated . Because it was the first time I felt something about the characters . You know , I had just started reading ,that's why . I read this when I was 13, I'm not so sure if I still like it now .

Honestly this was one of the first books I have ever read and I loved it. Even though I read it back when I was in yr 7 I still remember it like yesterday. I recommend people who likes drama and romance to read not too cringey and not too dull it’s right on the point. People aged 8-16 it is a good book to read Xxx hope you enjoy reading it as I did.

I expected something fun and cute honestly but it sadly wasn't to my taste. I honestly couldn't root for anyone as I didn't find any character likable and ended up so annoyed I leafed through the story halfway through the book cause I just wanted it to end.

Suzy's family kind of sucks: they don't listen to her at all and are quick to accuse her of stuff, her little sister is allowed to annoy her (with pranks!), and her dad won't shut up about how annoying he found his family which made me wonder why he hasn't just left them. Millie was okay at first but when Suzy had love trouble all she seem to care about was that Suzy and Danny should always be together or it'd ruin their friend group since Suzy and Danny dated cause Millie and Jamie did. There's also the teachers who also didn't care to listen to their students. It's like everyone had to be awful so they could make Suzy's life awful.

And the romance part of the story. I did not like it which is sad cause I usually like these love triangles.

This book was hard to finish and I wouldn't be reading it again.

Despite not being a girly-girl, I love to read books from the Chick Lit genre. They are a pleasant break from reading a powerful dystopian book, a hardcore fantasy novel or a heart-racing thriller. I usually save Chick Lit books for exam seasons, as they are quite light and usually take away the stress by letting me slip into the funny, comforting world. Me, Susy P is no exception to a brilliant Chick Lit read - I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Me, Susy P is told from the point of view from - yes, you guessed it - Susy Puttock. She is a 14 year old walking disaster magnet and is trying her hardest to fit in and have a "normal life". But she soon realises that it is pretty hard to be normal when her last name is Puttock and she seems to have an embarrassing moment wherever she goes. In this brilliant coming-of-age story, we join the rollercoaster ride with Susy as she learns to cope with her chaotic life involving the new and mysterious Zach. The ending is completely unpredictable and I was desperate to figure out if Susy will ever get out of her messy life.

Humour is a key element in this book. On virtually every page, there is a witty remark from Susy or another embarrassing moment to crack me up. This book is hilarious and I'd be very surprised if you read this book without smiling or even laughing out loud!

Susy is a brilliant protagonist and perfect for this story, but sometimes I felt that she wasn't being a real fourteen-year-old. I think this book would fit better in the MG category rather than the YA age group, as it reminded me of the books I used to read when I was 8-12 years old. During that age, I was obsessed with Jacqueline Wilson, Cathy Cassidy, Maggie Gibson type books and I feel that Me, Susy P would have been added to my favourites list. It's such a pity this book didn't come out a few years ago! :P

I really recommend this book, even though it did feel a little young for me at points. If you are ever down or sad, pick up this book and you'll feel x10 times better. In my opinion, this book is better for girls than boys as there is a lot of giggly-omg-that-boy-over-there-is-so-hot-and-I-want-a-new-dress-but-not-that-colour-or-I-might-die type of language. However, this is such a fun read and I think Saunders did a fabulous job of writing this book.

Fantastically fun and totally addictive, this utterly brilliant teen tale is a must-read!

Reminiscent of Jacqueline Wilson, this exciting novel perfectly encapsulates its target readership as the author ‘gets’ the younger generation. With a plucky, likeable main character and an exciting storyline this typical teenage romance/ chick-lit is highly readable and interesting. I felt a sense of nostalgia as I was cast back to my own youth and school years where boys, bullies, shopping and girl-talk were foremost on my mind. The author also understands sincerely how tough this part of one’s life is and how challenging growing-up can be and learning/ discovering about oneself to move forwards into the future as an adult. Suzy Puttock’s life is full of complications connected with friendships, school and family that test her character and mindset, and which so many readers will be able to connect and relate to.

‘Me. Suzy P’ follows the life of a 14 year old teen and her group of friends, who spend their time talking boys and hanging out in the local café. Side-splitting mishaps, cringe-worthy moments and trivial dilemmas seem to follow her around, as her ‘normal’ life soon becomes chaotic. With the wedding of her sister Amber to her annoying younger brother, and boy trouble – between Zach and Danny, Suzy has her fair share of events to cope with. Dealing with friendships and romance, family and foe this growing-up tale is one told from the heart and with such frankness and realism.

Beneath the humor and light-hearted banter is a heartwarming, starkly poignant tale of love that emphasizes the important things within life. Highlighted are those incidences that teens often face during puberty, including school dramas and social life. I thoroughly enjoyed this brilliant book and look forward to reading more by this author.

This book was one of those endearing books, the ones that have moments which are cute (in a sort of, I don't want to roll my eyes way). I mean seriously... I'll quote Me, Suzy P:
“What do you want to wear feathers on your head for?” Dad says, looking baffled. “Won’t you look like a cockerel?”
I don't think this book would've been so good if there wasn't so many funny passages if I'm honest. I don't how so but the humour seemed to tie it all together! Suzy, and Millie, were definitely absolutely hilarious & I hated it when they weren't getting on...

Regardless of all the mushiness it did seem quite serious at some points. Nothing really stood out for me as "a big issue", I had to go "fictional peat" digging (that's not a bad thing even if it didn't sound it) to find all the moralities. I did appreciate that Suzy just had to keep getting up & brushing herself off.
But there were some things I didn't understand. I know to some these may not seem blatantly self-focused but I genuinely think you cannot think this just because you're single. How does one think the whole world is coupled off? There were characters in it that clearly didn't have someone... It's life. How much you are willing to groan at all the couples crossing your path just because you feel unhappy? I can't picture that image... I tried. I really did; it started to interfere with the the lighthearted vibe this book had given off.
There are many ways to be happy. Just with your friends, just by reading or watching something good. Trying to make certain guys jealous isn't supposed to be one of them. Please, just please, do something else.

Unfortunately this book just wasn't my total cup of tea (I don't even like tea, bad metaphor). I found it funny yet it could've been more relatable to me (ooh, I could totally relate to sausage losing Germans though) personally.

Karen Saunders’ debut is a funny and heart-warming novel that will really hit the spot for fans of Sue Limb and Louise Rennison.

Me, Suzy P. has such a vivid cast of characters that are impossible not to become involved with. Now, Suzy is definitely my kind of girl: a rigid dress code of jeans, superhero t-shirts and Converse, so clumsy it’s dangerous and a deep love of hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows. She’s brilliant. Suzy’s best friend Millie is the spit of my best friend, Sara. They both have coloured streaks in their hair, are absolutely tiny, have endless bouncy energy and sometimes get a little too involved with other peoples situations. Jade, however, is a psychotic and horrible girl. She’s the kind of girl who made my life hell when I was in secondary school and every time I read about one of them they make me so, so angry.

Then there are the boys: Danny and Zach. I have to admit that I didn’t really get attached to either of them. Maybe they were just too young for me but Danny’s apathy towards Suzy in the romantic stakes irritated me – she deserves to be treated like a princess! And Zach was a bit of a jerk really and other than being nice to look at, there wasn’t very much there. I have to admit that I did warm up to Danny by the end; what a sweetie!

I think that Karen Saunders broached the subject of love and relationships sensitively and realistically. I loved that there was so much focus on who the person is over how pretty they are as well as the importance of being friends with the person you’re in a relationship. It’s such an important thing to know and I’m glad it was portrayed in the way it was.

Me, Suzy P. was a brilliantly fun debut and I’m looking forward to reading more from Karen Saunders.

Me, Suzy P is an entertaining and interesting novel that will make readers laugh endlessly! This is the perfect book for younger readers who love books like Dork Diaries and the Georgia Nicolson series.

Me, Suzy P is about a fourteen-year-old girl, Suzy Puttock, who loves to hang out with her three best friends at their favourite cafe. Unfortunately, Suzy is an accident prone and seams to leave cringe-worthy moments behind everywhere she goes. And when her sister chooses green dresses for her bridesmaids, Suzy is horrified. To make matters worse, there is a gorgeous new boy named Zach who seems to enjoy flirting with her. But Suzy has a boyfriend and she doesn't know how to pick between them.

Even though this book is aimed at younger readers, I did enjoy it. It kept me entertained for a good few hours! The characters were awesome and all had great personalities. Especially Suzy's family who were absolutely crazy and I loved to read about.

At first I was worried about how the story was going to be rounded off but the author ended the book perfectly with a Happily Ever After, which fit the book perfectly. I don't know how else to describe this book except HILARIOUS! The romance is cute and sweet and made me say "aawwwrrr" quite a few times.

Me, Suzy P expresses all the teen emotions that a young girl would be feeling at this stage in her life. There's boy trouble, family hate, friendship breakups, confusing dilemmas and awkward situations. Looking for a good laugh? I would definitely recommend you this.

One of my favourite reads of 2012. Despite being aimed at a much, much younger audience there is just so much I related to within the pages of this novel - first love, embarrassing parents, horrendous little sisters- it was almost as if much of my teen life was laid bare.

Yes, there are those books that are so awe-inspiring as to be life changing and then there's Me, Suzy P that though hardly earth-shattering is an immensely enjoyable, fun-filled read.

All about the life, loves, family and friends of 14-year-old Suzy Puttock whilst this is a very modern story of a young woman trying to find herself - often with hilarious and toe-curling embarrassing results - this will undoubtedly resonate with all those who remember the joys (and pains) of their own adolescence.

And though primarily one for girlies (aged 10 and up) just as Suzy's exploits took me back to my 14-year-old self I'm sure that any boys who happen upon this novel will find much of them selves in the form of Danny, Jamie and Zach.

An uncorrected proof copy, Me, Suzy P, though not published until January 2013 is available to pre-order at Amazon now.

This is a very entertaining book with a real feel-good factor for all the girls in the world born with two left feet - I'm certainly one of them.
Suzy learns a couple of things along the way: that she has more to be grateful for than she initially thinks and that appearances can be oh-so-deceptive.
I absolutely loved her younger sister Harry. Can't wait to see what other shenanigans she'll get up too in the next book.
I ended up rooting for the whole family and the prospect of what's awaiting Amber and Mark already makes me giggle.

Well I decided to read the book, Me Suzy P because It seemed to have pages within the book, I could relate to & because I was hooked right away with the summary.

Overall I thought the book was amazing, my favourite character would have to be Suzy P herself.Mainly because she just has this fun, weird & outgoing personality which I like & it really suits her.

My favourite part of the book would have to the beginning because that's when all the drama took place which hooked me in right away. It was really funny & interesting.
