I'm not in a position where I can get my own flock yet, but it's a dream. This book was a nice overview of what it realistically takes to raise chickens. By Kim's description, I feel like I might actually be able to make this dream a reality some day. If only my HOA wasn't so ridiculous... Guess it's time to pack up and head out of the suburbs. Soon...

If you want a concise overview/reality-check about raising America's most beloved bird, this is the book. Chickens: we will one day love you. One day we will build you a fabulous coop and clean up your poop. One day our children will chase you and collect your beautiful, delicious eggs. One day.

A really simple guide. Not informative at all. This book barely touches on the basics of raising chickens. Wanted more information on composting chicken poop and on what foods are good for them. I also wanted tips for keeping rodents out, cleaning the coop, keeping the flock healthy, etc. The recipes in the back seemed silly.

This is a great book as it cuts straight to the point and is loaded with information. Even if you have raised chickens as a kid, this is a great book because there are so many things our parents forgot to tell us.

Of the chicken rearing books I’ve seen so far, this one has the most complete description of health concerns and things to looks out for in regards to communicable illnesses in flocks.
