Video games. Detention. Crushes. The end of the world. Your basic tale of the unlikeliest hero. Lucas Ryan SAVES!
Music is LIFE and the written word is our SOUL. Music and writing have been my true ambition since I was a child. I have used music in every form possible; writing it, performing it, healing with it, etc. I call it my "life's soundtrack." I have always written in some form; from comic books to screenplays to short stories and now the new "Ember Series." I have found a true passion for my stories and characters and am eager to share them with the world. See you on the next book tour...M.D.
Lucas Ryan Versus is told from Lucas Ryan's POV. It starts off with a seriously intense action scene and I thought, "Whoa, OK.. let's just dive right in, shall we!" As the story began to unfold I learned that Lucas Ryan has an awesome group of friends, and has totally been crushing on this girl, Olivia, for several years, but has never had the cojones to speak to her. He does, however, manage to get himself into loads of trouble in school with his defiant little mouth. He lands himself a trip to the principal's office, and while waiting to be handed his own rear end, he notices a strange item on the floor. Something about it calls to him, literally, and he can't stop himself from picking it up. Strangely enough, once it's in his hand, he can't seem to let go of it. What he doesn't know is that the strange piece of whatever-it-is will soon change his life, and the lives of everyone around him, including Olivia's. Let the crazy sci-fi adventure begin!
Wow. Just, wow. My mind is seriously blown and I'm pretty sure it's going to take some time to put the pieces back together. Yep.. I can now say, with some degree of certainty, that I understand what Humpty Dumpty must have felt like.
This is the first time I've had the pleasure of reading a book by Madison Daniel, and I don't think I'll ever be the same again. He is one crazy, imaginative son of a *cough, cough.* The storyline could quite easily be mistaken for an act of God raining down upon the world, apocalypse-style. Lucas Ryan Versus packs a major punch from page one. The reader is immediately thrown into the action. The world-building in this story is just un-freaking-real, and the character development is done with such immense care and detail. I fell in love with these characters, especially Lucas Ryan, and the way they felt and reacted to each other and their surroundings. The action scenes in this book - and there were LOADS of them - were out of this world. I'm not quite sure how to put into words what I just finished reading.
Seriously, it was like...
... Bruce Willis meets The Darkness or some kind of craziness. Do we even have the technology to adequately make this into a movie yet? I don't know.
So, yeah... this was NOT at ALL what I was expecting when I cracked this baby open, but boy am I ever glad I did! This book will appeal to anyone - young adult to nearly dead, if they appreciate a well-crafted fantasy with fleshed out characters, and imagination beyond their wildest dreams. I will wait, because I'm told I must, though not so patiently, for the next installment of this FREAK-TASTIC series, and then I will pounce on it like a crazed cat on a little red dot.
I’ve had the chance to read Ember and Downpour by Madison Daniel and I liked them both. The series is full of adventure, danger and unexpected twists, but Lucas Ryan Versus: The Hive is entirely different from Ember and I absolutely loved it.
A couple of months ago I read Erebos by Poznanski Ursula and I have been looking since then for a book a little similar to it. Lucas Ryan VS is similar in some ways: a young boy looking to unravel the mysteries that surrounds a certain object. In this case, Lucas Ryan discovers that he is connected with a strange rock that speaks to him. The story behind the origin of the rock was pretty surprising and I honestly did not expect it to be a SF adventure (because I kind of forgot to read the synopsis).
Ryan is the typical teenager, the fix it all of the school when it comes to technology and an avid gamer. He is smart when it comes to strategies in games and when he must repair something, but often gets into trouble because of his big mouth. He has a crush since ever with Olivia, but he is kind of a coward when it comes to speaking with her. But the part that I loved the most is his friends, the fact that they are there. They are all supportive and always willing to do whatever it takes to help him or save him and the feeling is mutual.
By throwing Ryan’s friends into the action, Madison could portrait very well the spirit of sacrifice and at the same time the willing to fight. The book was action packed, when the day started and the bad guys took over the school, there wasn’t a page too dull. Everyone was running and fighting or hiding. Mostly the ones considered cowards, like Ryan and his friends stood up in front of an entire army, while teachers and the ones that could protect them were hiding.
The final battle was intense, or so I felt it. It felt like I was in the middle of a video game with dragons and knights. And who says that playing video games will never help? All those strategies from the games? Ryan could simply apply them when he confronted the aliens.
The ending I can only compare the ending with a roller-coaster. You know when you think that the race is over just to find yourself sustained in the air again? That is how the ending felt, when I thought the story ended, another battle started again.

I have officially been hooked on Madison Daniel and his books ~ This is the 5th book that I have read by him and each one continues to intrigue me, capture my attention and make me think that it was my favorite. If asked to choose a favorite I wouldn't be able to do it! This book was different from his other books ~ this one was more of a YA, video game, high school feel, but I loved it just as much and I am not even close to this age group anymore...
The characters were fun, well developed and reminded me of the little things in life that used to matter so much but seem so small now. Lucas, Taylor, Ro, & Mo are the best of friends and know each other inside and out. They are also big in the gaming world, and the book starts off with a bang!! Lucas is so close to defeating his enemy....but little does he know that a real enemy is coming that will be harder to defeat!
The plot is fast paced, smooth flowing and a lot of fun! We see relationships develop, bonds created and enemies like we have never seen before. The world is in trouble but with Lucas, Olivia, Sophie and friends on the case what can go wrong?!? Well....enter Felicity or Evilicity as Lucas has named her and a lot can and will go wrong. The story behind the origin of the rock (Is it a rock?!?) was pretty surprising and the way that it jumped into Lucas's mind will surprise you....Pick Me Up....Trust No One Except Olivia....
This book will grab your attention and hold it from start to finish and even after you are done reading you will be wondering what has happened and what will happen next....the cliffhanger that author Madison Daniel leaves us with is no joke...I am ready for the next book now!
This is a fun, quick read and one that readers of all ages can and will enjoy! Make sure that you add this one to your TBR list and do it soon ~ you don't want to miss any of the non-stop roller coaster action!

Lucas Ryan…Teenage boy, electronic junky, and girl crusher…as in, crushing on a girl that he has never had the guts to talk to. He’s a regular fixture in the principle office. So, one day while he was in there, getting the lecture, he spies an object on the floor. Little did he know, that after picking it up, his life would become an adventure.
Pick me up.
This story starts with a bang and ends with a bang. There’s no beating around the bush for the action to start in this story. It possesses all the right ingredients for a high paced action adventure sci-fi story that will surrender your whole attention. It contains great imagination, a great group of friends for moral support, and the evil to cause the chaos.
Pick me up.
The characters devised for this story are real…real in the sense that their teenage personalities were captured brilliantly. You feel like you are in the average high school setting, with your besties on one side, and the bullies on the other. However, I loved how the bullies were drawn into the adventure, complete with bickering and all.
Pick me up.
Without giving too much away in the story, and that’s always the difficult part for me, the sci-fi adventure is original. The plot is composed in a way that you don’t discover how two worlds are linked until the very end. This, keeps my interest up for the sequel to discover more. As the story progresses, Lucas discovers more about himself after the initial pick up of the object. Special powers, unworldly beings, and an unknown war pulls the sci-fi together to become a quest.
Video games. Homework. High School. Bullies. Detention. Crushes. Secrets. Other Dimensions. Monsters. Super Powers.
I finally made time to read this book and I don't know why it took me so long, but I am glad that I finally did! Wow, the author has blown me away with this style of writing. This book was phenomenal from beginning to end. I was hooked from the first sentence and when I finished I had to sit and take in everything that I read. So much went on in this story that it took a little bit to ponder about how to write this review without giving anything away. It was full of suspense, adventure, and one boy who was to save the world. I loved how video games came into play with the story too.
Lucas Ryan- He was a phenomenal character. He was a bit naive at the beginning but then he turned out to be a very strong willed character. I could feel the love and friendship between all the characters and how they were there for one another. I also loved how the author entwined music, secrets, and the sacrifices that Lucas had to make.
This author's imagination took me to places that I thought could never exist in stories and he wowed me with the way he kept me craving to know more and loving every minute of the story. This author has a writing style that once you read his books, you won't forget what you read. I highly recommend this story to teen and older to enjoy!! I give this story my five book star review and more for this amazingly rocking story and by the end of the story, you will believe!!
Lucas Ryan is an average teenage boy caught up in his many electronic devices, video games, crushing on a girl along with having a wild and vivid imagination. Little does Lucas know that maybe he is not so average. He is about to be lead to a door that will lead him on a journey through a Alice in Wonderland versus Twilight Zone versus Aliens experience where he will be faced with the adventures and challenges of his wildest dreams. This is Lucas Ryan so we are talking about really wild and crazy dreams!!! Lucas has an amazing group of friends who will share this journey with him and fall into another dimension where they will be pressed to their limits in this mind blowing creation by Madison Daniel!
The book had me at page one and when I finished the last sentence, I had to take a step back because WOW did that all just really happen?!? Madison does not disappoint in this awe-inspiring sci-fi/fantasy thriller. His colossal creativity and imagination really shine through with magnificent proportions in this book. I never cease to be amazed with the worlds he creates!
You will not be disappointed with this book! It is filled with great energy, friendship, love, danger, courage and sacrifice. I am anxious to see where Lucas Ryan's journey will take him to next!! This book wants you to pick it up and just know that in the end, YOU WILL BELIEVE!!!!!!
