About the author

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.

Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.

Auf die Anzahl und Titel der verschiedenen Sherlock Holmes Geschichten möchte ich nicht näher eingehen. Es mag sein, dass nicht alle existierenden Geschichten in diesem Buch vereint sind, aber deswegen sind es ja auch die gesammelten Werke. Einige davon waren mir noch unbekannt.

Was mich an diesem Buch sehr beeindruckt hat, ist das man in den vielen verschiedenen Fällen den Charakter von Sherlock Holmes sehr gut kennenlernt. Die beinahe schon größenwahnsinnige Figur, die sich immer wieder so nah am Abgrund zwischen Genie und Wahnsinn bewegt ist wirklich einzigartig. Auch den Einblick den man in die so seltsame Freundschaft von Dr. Watson und Sherlock Holmes bekommt, ist sehr interessant.

1000 Seiten sind ein Wort - während man anfangs noch erstaunt ist über die Lösung der Fälle, konnte ich doch feststellen, dass ich nach mehreren GEschichten bei den Fällen tatsächlich erfolgreich miträtseln konnte. Ich habe mich während der Lektüre wie ein Azubi des erfolgreichen Detektivs gefühlt, der den Leser nach und nach in seine Tipps und Tricks einweiht.

Ich kann diesen Band wirklich nur sehr empfehlen - allen, die Sherlock Holmes und die gute alte Krimikost lieben!

Me gustó mucho conocer a Sherlock y Watson. Obviamente me gustó mucho el protagonista por su diferente forma de ser. Muy cauteloso y observador.

Mis relatos favoritos fueron La aventura de la banda de lunares y Un escándalo en Bohemia.
De seguro leo más de Sherlock Holmes a futuro!

Ich mag Sherlock Holmes, aber die Kurzgeschichten waren mir auf Dauer doch zu anstrengend. Oft ähneln sie sich und dafür sind es einfach zu viele.

Thought I should read some classics. And after I'd started the serie I thought I should read the book.
Ok where can I start? Colsly 1000 pages are a lot for a book and I thought that it will take me a lot more time then it actually did. Everyday I read around 90 pages. It sounds little because it is. I had to focus on what I read, I can't have any background voices like music or people talking. When I was focused on the text it was like I was in this time, in every place Sherlock and Watson were. I also tried to figure out who it was and why he/she did it. (What was hard sometimes when Watson wrote "He left and come back after hours. Happy that he found something out.")
Every story was great. Even that everytime is the quastion "(Why and) who?". The storys are all so differnt and so real like it really happend.
I only had a problem with one story. The one where the police called Sherlock and Watson to look at this 'interesting case' where the alcoholic man of the woman died because three rubbers stealed some sterling cutlery and then when both get toled the story the police was like "Yeah, actually I don't know why are you here because we know who it was and why." There was the moment where I was like "k. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯".
But beside that a really good book, really woth the time and definitely reread worth!

Eine schöne Sammlung!
Nur scheint es von Zeit zu Zeit bei der Übersetzung Probleme gegeben zu haben, die aber eher nebensächlich sind.

Dies ist eine schöne Ausgabe von Sherlock Holmes Geschichten. Trotz der Menge wurde es mir nie langweilig, auch hatte ich nie das Gefühl, dass sich Fälle wiederholten oder die Lösungen zu ähnlich waren. Jede kleine Geschichte seht für sich, manchmal liegt lange Zeit dazwischen, die immer nur angedeutet wird.
Ich hatte viel Freude und dadurch, dass die Geschichten so kurz sind, wurde es nicht langatmig und ging einfach zu lesen, super für gemütliche Sofa-Abende.

I really love Sherlock Holmes and I loved to read some of the story. Not all are of the same quality though, and reading the whole book at once is a task of reading quite repetitive stories. It is more fun if you read it story by story with some breaks in between from time to time. Some stories are still missing in the book, so I only give it 4 stars.
