The one man she wants is the one man destined to destroy her.
Sooner or later we all end up dead. Jace Cutler doesn’t have the luxury of staying that way. After receiving a fatal stab wound, he awakens in a hospital room in Portland, Oregon, with no memory and a big hole where his soul used to be. Worst of all is the glow. Everyone is surrounded by a strange white aura he hungers to possess, none more compelling than the one enveloping Dr. Lia Benson.
Lia has always been ruled by reason, refusing to put stock in such nebulous things as destiny. Until Jace dies in her arms, then miraculously comes back to life. Whenever he’s near, her soul responds and her body burns. And she’s consumed by odd dreams she’s convinced are Jace’s lost memories.
When Lia is kidnapped, Jace tracks her and discovers a shocking explanation for who—and what—he is. Something no longer human, a dark legacy that until now has lain dormant within him. Something that could destroy the one woman he’d sacrifice everything to protect.
Contains bone-melting sexual tension, scary battle scenes, heartrending emotion guaranteed to keep you turning the pages well into the night, and a positively divine hero who may just steal your soul.
Anne Hope is the author of emotionally intense romances with a twist—a twist of humor, a twist of suspense, a twist of magic. All her stories, however, have a common thread. Whether they make you laugh or cry or push you to the edge of your seat, they all feature the redeeming power of love and the heart’s incredible ability to heal.
Anne’s passion for writing began at the age of eight. After penning countless stories about enchanted houses, alien girls with supernatural powers, and children constantly getting lost in the woods, she decided to try her hand at romance. She lives in Montreal, Canada with her husband, her two inexhaustible kids, her cat and a rambunctious Australian Kelpie.
I was truly impressed with this book. The love story was incredible, but Soul Bound is so much more than that. It's the kind of book that pushes us to think about the harmful things people do to each other and why. It made me reflect on the human soul and its power to draw people together. Jace and Lia were both very believable and had amazing chemistry. They brough the story to life for me. I usually don't write reviews, but this time I felt I had to. This book is just that good. If you're looking for fluff, this isn't it. But if you're looking for an intelligent, complex and emotionally satisfying read, then I guarantee you'll love Soul Bound as much as I did.

This is the way the blurb reads - and it's accurate. Jace dies, but comes back to life and Lia is the only one who knows. Everyone else has "forgotten" - thanks to the mind-twisting done by Diane, a nurse and minion of Athanatos, a nasty fallen angel.
Lia and Jace are destined for each other, but that destiny includes him taking her soul and her dying. Unfortunately, destiny didn't plan on the two of them falling in love.
The world building in this story is amazing - though it does get bogged down at times. Still, it is very well done. The characters are believeable and sympathetic. The situation - okay, not real, but well-done. There is lots of action, and a very satisfying ending - though it definitely leaves doors open for future books. Fortunately, they are just cracked open and won't leave you hanging.
For lovers of paranormal romance, you won't go wrong with this one. A definite good read.
Lia Benson knows he did. She's the doctor who frantically worked to save him even as she was overcome by heat and dizziness. She's the doctor who called his time of death. She's the doctor who witnessed him miraculously come back to life.
She's the doctor who received his soul and his memories.
Jace awakens in the hospital without any memories of who he is or of his past. And, he discovers, without a soul. He also discovers that he sees glowing auras around everyone, a glow that he hungers for. The brightest aura belongs to Lia.
Lia has memory-like dreams of the childhood of a boy who she is convinced is Jace. And when she is near him, something deep inside her responds to him. They are drawn to each other, even though they are wrong for each other on many levels.
Attempts are made on Jace's life by one group, another group tries to recruit him to its cause, and Lia is kidnapped by the recruiters to gain his cooperation. When he finds Lia, he learns who and what he really is. And he learns his destiny. A destiny that could save humanity. And be the death of Lia...
Jace Cutler dies...and comes back without a soul and without any memory of who he was. At the moment of death Lia Benson received his soul and his memories. They are plunged into a world of soul-eating kleptospychs and...well, I can't tell you because that would spoil the surprise. Suffice it to say that two groups of supernaturals are after them (three, if you count the rogues). One wants to kill them and one (the Watchers) wants to recruit Jace. But their offer doesn't look too good. Jace is the hope of the Watchers, but their prophecy for Jace means the death of Lia.
I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it. I'm really excited about the upcoming release of Soul Deep, the next installment in the Dark Souls series.
Soul Bound by Anne Hope is a June 1013 Samhain publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first full length novel in the Dark Souls series and it starts off with a bang. Jace is brought into the emergency room dying of a stab wound. His doctor, Lia, is mortified when she recognizes him as her sister's boyfriend. She helplessly watches as he dies, then she is told he is still alive and upon inspection she sees he has no knife would. How on earth could that be? While Lia's suspicions are raised due to the nurse on duty refusing to back her up, Lia takes a special interest in Jace. Not just because he once had an intense relationship with her sister, but because she knows there is something going on with him that isn't normal. He wakes up unable to remember who he is and has only very vague memories. Then the strange nurse attempts to wipe Lia's memory, only to find she is unsuccessful. Before long Lia finds herself practically obsessed with Jace... and in a lot of danger. When Lia winds up in the middle of a tug of war over Jace and his soul, Jace will learn some startling things about his heritage and who he really is. This information is more than he can take, but before he can absorb it fully, he has to find Lia, who has been kidnapped. A battle of wills, a battle of the minds, a battle of the heart and more importantly a battle of the soul will determine the future for Jace and Lia. The introduction novella for this series only gave us a brief set up, simply whetting our appetites. This book really gives the reader a detailed explanation of Hybrids, Rogues, Kleptopsychs, and watchers. The author has quite an imagination and has obviously put a great deal of thought into the characteristics of these beings. The romance element was slow going. The anticipation was a bit prolonged. This is a book that should be read slowly and an attention to the details is a must or you will find yourself a little lost. For me, I felt like the book could have easily fit into the fantasy genre and maybe just a little on the paranormal romance side. I was impressed with the details and the thought provoking plot. I do hope the next book in the series moves forward a little faster and is just a tad more character driven . Overall this is a solid story and a good way to get the ball rolling for the next book in the series. I will give this one a B. (3.5 stars rounded up to four)
A romantic, thrilling, and lovely read, Soul Bound was a wonderful paranormal romance. I liked this book and I really enjoyed reading it. It was sweet and action packed and I really liked it.
Lia was a great heroine. She was strong and took on everything the new world she was thrust into could throw at her. And, she was genuinely nice and thought of others before herself. I thought she was a lovely character.
Jace was also wonderful. He did some really terrible things in his past and didn't bother to deny them. But, as the book went on, he showed what was beneath his bad boy mask. He was really very sweet and determined to keep those he cared about safe. By the end of the book, I liked him.
The romance was good. Lia and Jace were great together, despite their reluctance to admit their feelings. I thought they were a lovely couple.
The plot was well paced and, while I wasn't totally hooked, I was kept interested the entire way through. There were tons of thrills that kept me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed the story and the ending had me curious about what will happen next.
Soul Bound was a lovely paranormal romance read. I really enjoyed reading this wonderful book. Romance lovers, this book is worth looking up.
*I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review
I read all the reviews on this book before I got my copy, and my fellow reviewers were all correct about how sensational this novel is. Anne Hope presents a world of good and evil. If you are into paranormal, like I do, then you should read Soul Bound, since you will also be blessed with riveting romance, suspense and even fallen angels. This is a story with such believable characters, adding their own flavour to the story, and ones you have no choice but to sympathize with. The plot was good pace from scene to scene, with a very satisfying ending. Jace Cutler succumbs to a fatal wound, but comes back alive, however in a different form and the only one who knows is his beloved Lia Benson. What you find within the forty four chapters of Soul Bound is an enthralling story line supported with heartrending emotion, supported by dynamic characters, forcing readers to patiently await the next novel in the series. A good read for a first in the series novel.
Soul Bound is the first book in the Dark Souls series by Anne Hope. There is a lot of detail and thought that went into this book. The characters were well built and believable. They all have a story, and you learn more and more as the story progresses. Some you don't start figuring out until closer to the end. I enjoyed getting to know them. The romance kept me in full anticipation mode. There was so much to take in with this story, and I get the impression there is still so much more to learn.
Soul Bound by Anne Hope was kindly provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.
Thought the concept of the novel was inventive and interesting. However, I found the concept of "Souls" to be too complex. I didn't think it was explained clearly at times, the descriptions and explanations to be too detailed. I'm sure other readers understood it better and appreciated the story, but it didn't work for me. The story did start off strong, but about half-way thru it tapered off towards boredom, whereas I started skimming the rest of the story just to get it done and over with. As for the hero and heroine, Jace and Lia, likeable, but together, absolutely no chemistry or heat between the two. Very disappointing read for me.
I picked up this book at work, when I noticed that it was set in PDX. While I thought the world-building was interesting, I was not interested enough in the characters to finish the book. The pace of the story was glacial, but the characters fell in forever-love with each other at first sight, so it seemed like the point of the book was missing. Plus, I never got to a sexy scene! There was so much build-up to actual sex, but I couldn't figure out why these people were wanting to bang each other so bad.
In the end, too boring to continue. Maybe the next book will be better?
This story was seriously captivating to me. I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it. It's different and a little scary. What if even a small part of it could be a reality somewhere?
