Patrick Livingston Murphy Williams was an American sports executive, who served as senior vice president of the Orlando Magic. Williams began his career as a minor league baseball player, and later joined the front office of his team. In the late 1960s he moved into basketball, with his biggest achievements being the 1983 title of the Philadelphia 76'ers and being a partner in the creation of the Orlando Magic.
Excellent book on the traits of an excellent coach. Out in the middle of no mans land he was still able to lead a community, school, state on the traits of what is important. I learned a lot about a man I only heard about-- all American players, academic all-American players, coaches all contributed to this piece. He was a leader, and this book shares that topic well with the reader.
Tom Osborne on Leadership is a very entertaining quick read on the life and coaching career of Nebraska's Tom Osborne. The bulk of the book is first hand accounts from his former players, assistants, and peers. I'm not sure that if you were getting this book solely for some deep discussion on leadership principles that you'd be satisfied, but if you are a Husker football fan, you will love it.
