Introducing us to the most famous poems of the Lebanese poet Kahlil Gibran, Osho takes the reader into a mystical world, addressing essential issues in everybody’s life. The famous verse that gives the title to this book is about “love”—but not the ordinary love we know from novels and movies. Speak to us of Love gives a taste of a contemporary mystic at work, trying to disrupt our dreams, illusions, and the state of unconsciousness that prevents us from enjoying life to the fullest. This is about and for the millions of people in the world who have killed their love with their own hands, and who are now miserable. They never wanted to kill it, there was no intention to kill their love, but in their unconsciousness they started possessing. Husbands possess their wives, wives possess their husbands, and parents possess their children. Teachers are trying in every possible way to possess their students. Politicians are trying to possess countries. Religions are trying to possess millions of people and control every aspect their lives.
This book shows that life can only thrive in freedom. Love never allows anyone to possess it, because love is our very soul.
For Osho, the basis of all our neuroses or psychoses is our souls are not nourished. Love, the basic nourishment, is missing. Osho comprehensively trounces the so-called religious and philosophical approaches to life. All that is of worth is to be found, not in the extraordinary, but in the ordinary; not in fantastical ideas of the “other world” beyond death, but in this very world that we find ourselves in here and now. In short, this book shows that making a simple yet utterly basic shift in our lives will awaken the silence in our beings and bring joy into our every moment.
Rajneesh (born Chandra Mohan Jain, 11 December 1931 – 19 January 1990) and latter rebranded as Osho was leader of the Rajneesh movement. During his lifetime he was viewed as a controversial new religious movement leader and mystic.
In the 1960s he traveled throughout India as a public speaker and was a vocal critic of socialism, Mahatma Gandhi, and Hindu religious orthodoxy.
Rajneesh emphasized the importance of meditation, mindfulness, love, celebration, courage, creativity and humor—qualities that he viewed as being suppressed by adherence to static belief systems, religious tradition and socialization.
In advocating a more open attitude to human sexuality he caused controversy in India during the late 1960s and became known as "the sex guru".
In 1970, Rajneesh spent time in Mumbai initiating followers known as "neo-sannyasins". During this period he expanded his spiritual teachings and commented extensively in discourses on the writings of religious traditions, mystics, and philosophers from around the world. In 1974 Rajneesh relocated to Pune, where an ashram was established and a variety of therapies, incorporating methods first developed by the Human Potential Movement, were offered to a growing Western following. By the late 1970s, the tension between the ruling Janata Party government of Morarji Desai and the movement led to a curbing of the ashram's development and a back taxes claim estimated at $5 million.
In 1981, the Rajneesh movement's efforts refocused on activities in the United States and Rajneesh relocated to a facility known as Rajneeshpuram in Wasco County, Oregon. Almost immediately the movement ran into conflict with county residents and the state government, and a succession of legal battles concerning the ashram's construction and continued development curtailed its success.
In 1985, in the wake of a series of serious crimes by his followers, including a mass food poisoning attack with Salmonella bacteria and an aborted assassination plot to murder U.S. Attorney Charles H. Turner, Rajneesh alleged that his personal secretary Ma Anand Sheela and her close supporters had been responsible. He was later deported from the United States in accordance with an Alford plea bargain.[
After his deportation, 21 countries denied him entry. He ultimately returned to India and a revived Pune ashram, where he died in 1990. Rajneesh's ashram, now known as OSHO International Meditation Resort and all associated intellectual property, is managed by the Zurich registered Osho International Foundation (formerly Rajneesh International Foundation). Rajneesh's teachings have had a notable impact on Western New Age thought, and their popularity has increased markedly since his death.
A jednog dana na vrata će pokucati i sam Bog i reći: "Molim vas, pustite me unutra. Izmorili su me i dojadili mi svi ti idioti."
I don’t know how to review this, and I can’t even express my opinion on it. I may say it is a way of life Osho is telling us to be aware of but I may be not so much exact in the term. To be short it is important to get at least his whole teaching in being always one and total, never to live in fragments.
Osho's ego (yes he is not supposed to have one) kicks in many times during his talks on Gibran and the results in some sections are underwhelming consequently.
Its an interesting take on the timeless wisdom of Khalil Gibran. Perspective always enriches, hence I suggest one to go through the reflections with little emphasis on agreement or disagreement.
I completely regret buying this book and do not recommend it.
I have recently just read The Prophet, by Gibran Khalil. It was a great book, it discussed spirituality and humanity in wonderful ways.
However, this book did not reflect The Prophet by Gibran Khalil or did it justice in its interpretation. I found it boring in material, it included too much repetition, mentioned stories of unrelated matters, and most of all this book is unnecessarily offensive to all worldly religions be it Islam, Judaism or Budisim. Which is completely against the purpose of the book it’s based on.
Love and marriage? Two totally different things. Love is bigger than marriage. Love is not marriage. Marriage is a social contract. Never saw it that way, but I suppose it makes sense. Can't confine love into one person. Love is like the air, like the ocean. It flows in and out. Sometimes there is more sometimes there is less. One day you love one person, the next day you love another. Why didn't anybody tell me this before?
My fav quotes (not a review): -Page 96 |"”Is it your question or a quest?”" -Page 147 "If you ask a great philosopher like Martin Heidegger or Jean Paul Sartre or Emmanuel Kant about children, they will laugh. They will say, ”We are philosophers and we are not interested in trivia. Children? – is this a philosophical question? Marriage? – is this a philosophical question?” Just look in the contents of the great philosophical treatises of the world and you will not find love, marriage, children, there." -Page 263 "Abraham Lincoln said something which should be remembered by everyone. He said, ”I am very grateful to you for reminding me of my father just before I give my first address to the Senate. My father was so beautiful, and such a creative artist – there was no other man who could make such beautiful shoes. I know perfectly well, whatever I do, I will never be such a great president as he was a great creator. I cannot surpass him." -Page 355 "If a thick paint is put on your body so that all possibilities of inhaling and exhaling are stopped, and your nose is left open – you will still die in three hours. Just the nose is not enough. It is the most important part, but it is not enough. Your whole body consists of almost seven billion living cells. They all need oxygen and they all need to throw out carbon dioxide. Your clothes are preventing it."
Really love this book although I have not finish it yet. It talks about life, love, marriage and parenting. Very motivating to keep moving in this world full of noise.
Verdaderamente hermoso.
