With her genius for flavor, and India's long tradition of vegetarian cooking to draw upon, Anjum Anand has created a vibrant collection of recipes that belongs in every kitchen. She cooks up a feast of healthy, delicious dishes, from Spicy, Crisp Chickpea Pancakes for breakfast to Keralan Coconut Curry, Wild Mushroom Biryani, and the Best Ever Broiled Nan. Everything is mouthwatering and easy to make at home, from the most traditional street foods to Indian-spiced versions of Western favorites, like a veggie-friendly take on shepherd's pie. Whether you're a vegetarian or an omnivore, you'll find a dazzling array of meat-free options.
Beautifully styled and photographed, a nice one to flip through, but I wasn't over the moon about any of the recipes. I'm not sure what I expected. There are a few interesting ones in there, but nothing that really makes me stop and get excited. Maybe I was hoping for something more traditional? Or the other direction-- more creative? It falls a bit flat for me overall.
Being a passionate cook myself, I can say that writing a cookbook is not simple. Mostly because it cannot meet the expectations of every reader. I am usually happy if I find even 3 to 4 new ideas or recipes in a cookbook. Trust me, this has more than 4. :D
This is an absolutely lovely collection of recipes mingled with personal and cultural history, both very traditional dishes and the products of the author's invention. And you know it's got to be something to get my seal of approval as a vegetarian collection ...
I have made almost everything from Anjum's vegetarian feast! This book is excellent! The measurements are perfect and I've found that I need to do/add nothing else to any of the recipes! All the recipes I have cooked so far have turned out perfectly! She's provided accompaniment ideas for almost all her recipes and the instructions are so clear to follow. I hope this won't be the only vegetarian book her publishes!
