Jupiter James is like any child. He lives a normal life, with a normal family and normal friends. When the clock strikes 8 and it's time for bed each night, Jupiter James' life becomes far from normal though. He scoots out of bed and slips by the living room and out to the garage where the big red button within his father's ice cream van catapults his life, literally, into outer space to take on his out-of-this-world adventures to save planet Earth.

Jupiter James The chronicles of a Boy by James P. Markey and Dennis J Markey
Illustrated drawings of a boy who after everyone is asleep goes to his dads' ice cream truck and presses the red button that takes him into space.
The imagination is super. Once he finds a new planet and new friends and he tells you what happens there.
They ask him for help and he has to keep his mission a secret from everybody at home.

We've got a baby boy in our family called Jupiter-James, so when I found out about this book, he had to have it ... but having bought it for him, I wanted to hear the stories myself, so I got it on Audible. I wouldn't recommend anyone else does this because I think the main attraction of the book is probably the illustrations. Also, at the end, there's a chapter where you can fill in the blanks and make up your own Jupiter James story - a brilliant idea, but of course it doesn't work at all on Audible.

I don't think the book is incredibly well-written. All the stories end in exactly the same way, probably by design, but the author could have varied it - perhaps had a different relative at the end of each one. Jupiter James did make me smile though. My favourite was his mission on Mars.
