As Zoey prepares for a sewing contest, she realizes her friendships are also in need of tailoring.
In the second book in the Sew Zoey series, things are going great for Zoey on the fashion front: She meets a real designer who tells her she should enter a big sewing contest, and she finds out that her idol, Daphne Shaw, is a fan of her blog! But off the runway, Zoey's having friend trouble times two. First her best friend Kate gets her braces off and starts getting a lot of attention from boys, including Zoey's crush, Lorenzo. Is she still the same sweet Kate on the inside? Then Zoey's newest friend, Libby, thinks Zoey is friends with her only because her aunt is one of the contest judges. Zoey thought fashion emergencies were tough; but compared to friendship emergencies, they're a cinch. How can she prove that she's friends with Libby for the right reasons and fix her relationship with Kate? In a way that is totally Zoey!
Chloe Taylor learned to sew when she was a little girl. She loved watching her Grandmother Louise turn a scrap of blue fabric into a simple-but-fabulous dress, nightgown, or even a bathing suit in an instant. It was magical! Now that she’s grown up, she still loves fashion: It’s like art that you can wear. Chloe has written more than thirty books for children and lives, writes, and window shops in New York City.
Here’s a book which I absolutely adore! Sew Zoey on Pins and Needles by Chloe Taylor is the second book in the Sew Zoey series. But this is the first book I have read from the author and I can say that you can read this book as a standalone.
Zoey is a talented fashion designer who loves designing new clothes. She starts blogging about her work with the support of her closest friends and family.
I would say this book is quite realistic and relevant regarding how it can be dangerous for someone young to be at social media. The book deals with this issue quite well with the writing reflecting on how young people can discuss with someone they can trust.
The story also highlights on who are our real friends; how we can deal with when rough times come as they definitely do.
Such a good book! The bonus point will be that the book does have the actual designs Zoey does as the story goes on. I used to design a lot of clothes for my dolls and myself growing up. Such nostalgic memories!
Definitely recommending this series for the young girls!
I love how Chloe Talyor made everything work out in the end. I also enjoyed that she had problems with Kate and tried to fix that relationship. Another thing I enjoyed was that she wasn't friends with Libby just because her aunt is a H. Cashin's worker. All in all U would recommend this book for age 8-11 or 12

Zoey is making new friends, writing her fashion blog, and meeting a real fashion designer. Her life seems to be just about perfect. But when the fashion designer recommends that Zoey enter a fashion designer contest things begin to unravel. Zoey can’t figure out why her friends are upset with her. Suddenly repairing her friendships seem much more important than winning the designing contest. Young readers will be drawn to the story that is written from Zoey’s point of view. The situations are realistic and entertaining. The illustrations of dresses that Zoey designs are at the beginning of each chapter and help set the topic for the story. The author does a great job of weaving a message of the importance of friendship into a story about fashion for young girls. The story ended well and will leave readers wanting to read the next book in the series. I enjoyed reading the book as an adult, but know that my ten year old niece will enjoy it even more.
I received this book free of charge from Children's Lit in exchange for my honest review.
Friendship emergencies. Now, since Kate , Zoey's best friend, gets her braces off, she turns to be pretty. And Libby become cautious towards Zoey because she has a famous aunt, who is a designer.
I like that this book is about sewing, sewing, sewing.. but at the same time it tackles the friendship issue as well.
Zoey enters a designer competition, and I love that her designs are inspiring for tweens (even in real life)!
Anyway, because it is a Sew Zoey book, all things turn well in the end.
Oh.. and I love how I am so inspired to learn sewing like Zoey.
This is a really nice and cute story for middle grade readers. I am a lot older than the target ready group but I believe that if this series had been around when I was a child then I would have read them all. It's a safe series for children. This is the second book in the series and is better than the first. A nice book about a girl who loves sewing and fashion designing but isn't over the top.
Fashion and friendships both are causing problems for Zoey in the second book. Zoey entered a really big fashion competition but her main stress was trying to figure out what was going on with her best friend Kate.
This was a really cute and fun book that has interesting characters.
I think Zoey is really nice and considerate to her family and friends. Zoey must really like sewing accesoires for everyone. She really is kind to do stuff for everyone. Especially for her friends and family. Zoey rocks!!!!!
