In this Mermaid Tales adventure, Shelly’s not sure she’s ready to be royalty.
Not one of the merkids in Shelly Siren’s third grade class can believe the shell-shattering Shelly is a princess! A real princess! It’s been a deep, dark secret in Trident City, but now everyone knows—and Shelly doesn’t know how to act. Should she start wearing a glittery crown? Or move to a grand undersea palace? Will her friends have to call her Princess Shelly? She knows it’s an exciting turn of events, but Shelly’s not sure she can truly fit the royal part. Can she find a way to be a princess and stay herself?

The book was great and I really loved it it is about a mermaid that doesn't know that she's a princess until school starts and one of the class talks about kings and queens and princesses the teacher said that there was a princess in the class and then she said it was Shelly that was the princess Shelly is the mermaid that I was talking about anyway Shelly is a princess she's third in line to be queen she's so excited but she thinks her friends are going to call her your highness and she does not know if she has to were a crown or have to move to a grand undersea palace she doesn't even know how to act!

My Lord, this was a cringefest. Shelly finds out she is a princess and totally goes haywire. Really, can't you think for a moment more? Instead of panicking and then also do those things? OMG, yes, you are a princess, and yes one day you will have to do duties. But really, did you think you would just be plucked out of your home because YOU suddenly find out you are a princess? HAHAHAHAHA *rolls off her chair* *snorts* Oh my word. *snorts more* She also gets pissy at her poor grandfather, well I can clearly see why he never told her anything. If this is her reaction to it, I wouldn't have said anything either. I did think it was pretty stupid of that teacher to just say that stuff out loud without asking Shelly first. And then there is that silly mollusk stuff happening that just made me roll my eyes. Good grief. Really, this book. I hope this isn't an indication for the series going downhill. I will give it one more book, and hope it is back to normal.
I read this with my kids and it was a really good book with a strong message about being who you are and sticking to your own principles. Not to mention, it had amazing oceanic vocabulary with creative names. I kind of wish I'd started The Mermaid Tales in book one, but it was my daughter's library book choice. So, we will be starting soon with the other books if we can find them.
Shelly Siren lives in Trident City with her Grandfather and best friends. She's lived there all her life and enjoyed her life. One day, a teacher reveals that she's a princess and has proof from the genealogical records. She's a princess of the Western Ocean. Shelly didn't want to be a princess, she just wanted to be a regular mermaid. Peer pressure makes her question herself, but her grandfather and her friends remind her of who she is. Just Shelly Siren, a third-grade mermaid.
not one of the mermaids in shelly siren's third grade class can believe the news. shelly is a princess, a real one. it's been a well- kept secret in trident city, but now the word is out, and shelly doesn't know how to act. maybe she should start to wear a crown,or move to a palace.
this is a good read. i recommend this book for ages 7 and up. from the books that i have read so far from this series this won has bin the most adventures off them all . my favorite part was when Shelly discovers that she is a princes and that her grand father tells her that she is a princes she did not want to be royal but she deals with it . My favorite characters are Shelly siren and Echo reef .( they are the mane charterers) i hope that inspired you to read it soon!

This year Christmas I got Mermaid Tales books 1-5. I have already uploaded some of the reviews if you would like to see them. After reading the third book I FRAEKED OUT I LOOKED AT THE 5th ONE AND WANTED TO THROW IT! That is how excited I was so I said goodbye to the 4th book and skipped and all I have to say is.... It was a very nice book. Would you like to see my opinion on the characters tell me in the comments. bye
The excitement in Trident City continues as Shelly Siren learns that she is a real princess. But is she ready to be a princess or will she remain “normal” until she comes of age? This is the fifth book in the Mermaid Tales series by popular author Debbie Dadey. The storyline is fairly predictable and one does not need to have read the previous books in the series to read this volume. The text is not intimidating as plenty of white space appears on the pages. The pen and ink illustrations are humorous. If you have girls who enjoy mermaid stories or school stories, you will want to purchase this series. Recommended. Grades 1 through 4.
Was anyone honestly surprised here as to who exactly the lost princess is? Ah, well fame goes to a young mermaid's head - only briefly. And then everything takes a turn toward Spider-man (With great power comes great responsibility).
Not a big fan of this series. The characters were closer to Natalie's age than in the Magic Kitten series, but I didn't like their behavior. I also didn't think the series need to go in this direction of making the main character a princess. She was interesting enough as just a mermaid.
Really cute book with a good message about being true to yourself. Also has a lot of great information on sea creatures. May be a way to get girls to read about more than fairies.
I liked this book because it is a page turner. This book is for 6 graders and down to 2 graders. If you like mermaids you will maybe like Mermaid Tales. This book is about a 3 grader who finds out she is a princess. The princess is??? Read the book to find out.
