This book was a bit different for me, but enjoyable non-the-less. Definitely not my normal 'dragon' read. In fact, I didn't even feel as though they were dragons. There is a brief mention of scales on their arms yet otherwise, nothing. So I prefer to just view them as to what they call themselves. The Zir. A race all their own.

The premise is interesting and drew me quickly into the book. Four brothers are cursed. They know very little of who or what they are. They are immortal and are looking for their mates as they watch their powers diminish over time. The problem is that they have no clue who each of their mates may be. The way to find out it to bite them. However, if the woman is not meant to be theirs. the woman will die.

Jordan is the main character. One of the dragon brothers, with an elemental control over water. In a show of mercy, he unknowingly meets his mate. By the time he realizes it, she is wed to another. She is Celeste. Somewhat naive yet caring, Celeste is torn between duty and desire.

To keep the story from being a simplistic, straight forward erotic romance, we have Celeste's husband (Hudson) who is in contact with other beings and has a twisted agenda of his own. Also, Celeste hears a voice in her head who seems to know more about the curse placed upon the brothers.

While short this was still an enjoyable book with unique characters. I hope to learn more about the other brothers as time goes on. Each so far seems very unique. Jordan left me with mixed emotions. While I understand his need to have his chosen mate, he also is a bit selfish as to how he goes about it. Celeste, while I LOVE the name, her character I just couldn't feel much for one way or another. She just didn't feel very real. The one thing I did greatly enjoy was how the author changes perspectives between characters.

This is a series I will continue reading. While it is not a "top series," in way of interest, it still sparked enough to want to know more about the brothers and their curse. A good read for supernatural, urban-fantasy fans of 18+ years of age.

Original Romancing the Dark Side Review:

Ms. Danes weaves an intriguing tale of magic, romance and the supernatural that captures your interest in a matter of a few paragraphs!

Waterfall takes us into the world of four elemental dragon brothers, known as Zir, in search of their intended mates who will set them free from the curse that keeps them trapped in human form. When two of the brothers, Jordan and Ferrous come across a shipwreck in Blood Cove, neither expects to find a survivor among the dead. Taking pity on the young, beautiful woman, Jordan decides to end her suffering by offering his lethal bite. What he thinks is an act of mercy soon reveals his destiny when Jordan attends a friend's wedding only to find the new bride is the same woman he saved on the beach a few days ago and his true mate, now married to another.

Waterfall is a fast paced story that skillfully blends the allure of the supernatural with the historical setting of Victorian London. While we're introduced to all four brothers, this story focuses on Jordan and Celeste's romance. Jordan is charming, sexy and mysterious...all the makings of a romance hero. I really love his compassion and that he is patient with Celeste even when he knows she is his true mate and she is on the fence about his revelation. Celeste is kind and a bit naive but is also strong, like many she finds herself in an arranged marriage but would rather marry for love and not wealth. The chemistry between them is sultry, sweet and keeps you turning the pages. Due to the story's length the romance has no time to slowly develop but the plot allows for them to build a more solid relationship by the book's end.

Lacy Danes' writing style is eloquent and transports you to the captivating paranormal world she's created in Waterfall. There's glimpses of the Zir's origins, other supernatural beings and the main characters' pasts throughout the story, but the author is great at keeping the reader in the dark about some things which I'm hoping will be revealed in time. The ending felt a bit rushed for me, I would have liked a few more chapters but was glad Ms. Danes wrapped Jordan and Celeste's story with a happy ending. With a powerful romance, magic and a little mystery that adds a gothic feel, Waterfall is sure to delight readers looking for a new class of dragons!

Jordan is a Zir, one of four princes from the last of the elemental dragons egg. Born by blood magic, all four brothers are seeking out the truth behind who they are feeling cursed with their need for blood and their uncanny abilities, the only reprieve would be to find their mate but none have been found.

Hearing a dying heartbeat, Jordan can’t stop himself from given the death’s kiss to the fragile woman laying before him, he can’t stand the thought of her suffering. Three days later that neck he softly touched stands before him, a living breathing beautiful woman who has just been wed to another. Jordan knows she is his mate and intends to have her by his side, but first he needs to come to an agreement with her husband not realizing that he is not quite what he appears.

This is the first in the Dragon’s Fate series, it had a definite gothic feel to it. I was intrigued by the whole premise, there is more to unravel as the series goes on. Excellent first book to kick the series off with, Jordan is an intricate character once he realizes that Celeste is his mate he goes from just existing to pure alpha male, very fun read.

Hot Dragons/men/brothers, Explicit Sex, Sex in Water, Magic.. Sex..

So ya…. this was my warning provided by the synopsis:

Product Warnings: This novel contains explicit sex, sex in water, four super-hot dragon brothers, and a curse born from magical power that has left them wondering who they are all their lives.
OH BOY oh ya, OK yes… but…

Let’s break this down for you, I wanted to really love this book but in the end I liked it, but I did not love it. It was … good, The story (see synopsis below) starts off a bit mysteriously setting us up the time period of 17th century British Isles. We have the shores outside of London, there is a woman, she ends up being the lone survivor of a horrific ship wreck, but we have no clue why, an we never learn why. Two men find her dying amongst the wreckage. One of these guys decides to take action and basically mercy kills her by doing what he thinks will will end her life quickly only way he knows how, by his bite and as all the others before her, she would die from the poison of said bite….

Can you guess what happens? Well I am thinking ooooooooooh the hint of blood magic (because of the synopsis), vampires who are also dragons!!? OK I can deal with it, I have been reading vampire novels again lately as long as they do not sparkle and there are no teenie-boppers involved I am OK with it. I am not a lover of historical romances, but this promised dragons and vampires so I thought another perfect way for me to continue my Harlequin PTSD therapy. What I did not expect was a smart writer, no offense all of you historical romance writers. But Lacy has this one down pat. However…

Here is just a few reasons why it is just an OK read I like -

1st – It should not have been a novella, because it is not a true novella, just the length, she really had the story idea and it was being set up in the structure of a novel length story.Yes it was focused on just one of the brothers, but that was it. The problem is the art of a novella is to have the story tight and narrowly focused and still with the depth of a full length. The story was like this for the first 65 or so pages, but then it falls apart a bit from there. It starts rushing and skipping and though the villain is introduced he is never explained or fleshed out, so if you do not have a clue about historically accurate erotica, you are going to be let down and a bit lost. The rest of it was OK but even if the aspect of villainy was explained or even more hinted at and is left for the next in the series, there was just to much… well continue reading. Whatever happened, it or he or whatever was never developed bad guy wise, so basically a 2.5-star rating for that aspect. (not to mention what happens to dear old Grandmum!)

2nd – Yes, it focused on the one hot-dragon-ish brother, Jordan. She gets a five-star rating on here descriptions and fluffing of said character (yes I said fluffing but not that kind). I can see and picture the hot Jordan, yummy hot, and when he has a bit of showing of his true form, it is hotter than hot. When the first sex scene happens? It is so steamy it makes my girl parts tingly. I absolutely was going to be giving it a solid four-stars about 65 pages (roughly into 60% in). Everything was OK, yes she used my most un-favorite word for the female parts, but historically she is completely accurate, (her website even proves she is, which has the coolest little historical sex phrases and word generator!). Yes quite lovely, I removed the batteries from my 360 controller…

I tend to like my erotica from the Victorian era and I know not only is Elizabethan era erotica not as popular but it is one not widely found to compare the style with. With stories from The Pearl being some of the more earlier forms available from the pre 19c, (Victorian) and other really forbidden treats, Edwardian is at times to base and simple and uses terms which many of us (like me) have been taught are crass for our sexy bits. I am betting this is why it was a bit to much for some readers. That said, if a story can make me tingle and want to go take the controller away from my fiance and use all my wiles for a little *insert squeaky bed spring noise here* well, they did a good job. So sex? Sex.. she did good. She gets not only two thumbs up with some of the best researched erotic writing style for the era out there… She gets a full five-star on the combination of historical accuracy and ability to turn this cabin dwelling hippie on! I didn’t feel bad my fiance had to sit to close to the TV and couldn’t use the battery controller to play Skyrim with! (Ironic, he is killing dragons…). OK but why only a solid three-star and not a four-star rating?

3rd – I hit 65 or so pages in, and bam, someone decided she needed to finish the story and burned right through the rest of the novella and cramming things in and trying to use gratuitous (albeit hot) sex scenes to cover up the speed-fest in the story. With all the solid writing and character development so far, having it just stop and starts using sex as a filler it seemed… well argh! Plus, no villain follow up, and *flipping back through the pages* I am not sure happened! I hurumphed a lot, and gave the batteries back to my fiance and sighed some more. I just wanted to have the balance back, it wasn’t! She lost me. I probably will read the 2nd in the series because I want to see what happens, but it will be me signing up for a tour again and probably won’t pay for it, kind of bad to admit that huh?

Lacy darlin’? *pout* why did ya rush it up dang it, you had it going so good I was so impressed by the historically accurate story mixed in with modern day popular style fantasy romance etc and I was gonna get my groove on and the bottom dropped out … oh the vampires? Well ya it was a duh moment because it was obvious, but since Dracula, which although not the first occurrence of the word vampire in stories (you can go back as far back as 12th century) the actual term was not coined/used till the Gothic era of 19c. with Bram Stoker‘s novel. Of course. I think many people do not realize this and feel off when no one says the word vampire so they are all judgy and what not, but I get it, I mean I knew Camilla was a lesbian vampiric story when I was 12!

The historically accurate descriptions and sex scenes, the descriptions of clothing and proper conventions of the era were covered and well done. So when she started rushing and filling with all the thrusting, and the heaving and the… well she threw the baby out with the bath water. But again, her writing, her story telling, this is why I mentioned it on the TIE radio show as a promising series. A book for a quiet afternoon with no kids, and nothing else to do. DANG IT I even had stolen back my batteries!! SO… a nice three-star rating. But I am still pouty, and my book has a lot of book marked sections for… later use (adding batteries to the grocery list…) what? Just in case I get sick of my Victorian ones, baby! I mean it does have dragon’s after all…

Dragons, fated mates, infidelity and vampires. Oh and did I mention dragons?

The concept for this series (Waterfall is definitely the first (and introductory at that) novella in a series) is fascinating.

Four dragons are born from stone eggs and cursed to live as immortal men. Each brother has power over one of the elements. None have any memory of being dragons.

They call themselves the Zir.

All they know is that the curse will end when they find their destined mates.

It's a pity that the only way they will recognize their fated mates is by biting a poor woman (yes, like a vampire) and having her survive the poison they inject into their bites.

Each brother has left a string of lovely corpses behind him. Five centuries worth of corpses.

And their powers are fading. It's a curse after all.

Until Jordan, the water dragon, finds Celeste washed up on shore, surrounded by the wrack of a terrible disaster at sea. Celeste is the only survivor. He bites her to give her a quick death, because her body is broken beyond all possibility of survival.

The next time he sees her, she is about to become the bride of one of their few human allies, the Duke of Hudson. Her survival means that she is Jordan's mate.

Hudson's long set plan to marry her means that someone else has been manipulating all of them like pieces on a chessboard. But none of the brothers, or, for that matter, poor Hudson, know who the other chessplayer really is. Or even why he's playing.

All Jordan knows is that she is the reward for his centuries of endless waiting. The world has come alive for him again. And Celeste finally discovers that all the eerie things that have made her different, are all part of being fated to mate the water dragon.

But first there is this pesky problem of Celeste already having a promised husband. And that the Zir have a powerful enemy who has been waiting a long time for a chance to defeat them. Again.

Escape Rating B: There's a lot of terrific build up of the scenario. This alternate Regency world, where those who are slightly "other" are known to the ton, is pretty cool.

But we only get glimpses of how things got there. It felt a bit like a tease.

It was definitely a tease about how the Zir got to be cursed, but we only know what they know, so that was fair.

The Duke of Hudson had to have had a powerful reason for going so completely "dark side", and we only got a glimpse of it. We don't see how he got seduced to fall. He was more of a charicature than a real villain. Or even a front for the real villain.

I enjoyed the story for the way it begins the saga. In this particular instance, the "fated mates" trope does make sense. There was certainly a reference in the story that what Jordan and Celeste felt wasn't love, but that it could be in time.

Using the destined mates trope as an excuse for infidelity, just doesn't say "romance" to me. It may be "curse-ending" but it's not romance. On that other hand, paranormals don't promise happy endings, just more adventures.

And I always want more worldbuilding. I can't wait to see what Ms. Danes does with this fascinating setup. I'm looking forward to finding out the next brother's and dragon's fate.

This novel contains explicit sex, sex in water, four super-hot dragon brothers, and a curse born from magical power that has left them wondering who they are all their lives.

Prologue from the novella:

Five hundred years ago, using her own vampire blood and ancient magic, the vampiress Carmen brought forth the birth of the last four elemental dragon princes, or Zir, from the last of the elemental dragon's egs.

Cursed by an enemy who wanted their power, they were condemned to take human form. There are no females among them, and so each is destined to live with an unrelenting urge to find his elemental mate. For she is the key that will unlock their history and their destiny.

To this day, no Zir has found his mate.

(L. Danes, 2013).

When two of the dragon brothers discover a wreck in Blood Cove, neither Jordan nor Ferrous expect any survivors. The carnage was just too great. Human remains scattered everywhere; some whole and others in pieces. Then they hear the faint heartbeat. How is this possible? When Jordan locates the living body, he finds her broken and completely beyond saving. In order to show her mercy, he bites her, injecting her with his poison, which will cause her to pass on peacefully. After disguising the carnage on the shores of Blood Cove, the brothers head off to London.

Three days later, at a wedding celebration, the Duke of Hudson stands before the London elite and announces his bride, the Duchess of Hudson. It is then that Jordan realizes that not only is the woman from the island, she is also his mate. Now, Jordan must find a way to convince her who she is and come to an agreement with the Duke. But things aren't going to be that easy!

This novella has very intense erotic content. I didn't mind it but there is a lot of it considering the book is only about 138 pages so keep that in mind.

I love dragons - They are one of my favorite paranormal creatures, second only to vampires. I wasn't disappointed in this first book of the "Dragon's Fate" series. The plot was pretty solid and each character was developed quite well. The descriptions of scenes and characters throughout the novella were great. I was able to visualize everything in my mind as I moved along.

The only real problem I had was that that last 1/4 of the book seemed a bit rushed - a common problem I tend to see in novellas. Overall, though, I loved the novel, its premise, characters, and story line. I'm not an expert, by any means, but the historical aspect of the novella seemed to be intact and on target. I'm not the type of reader that questions accuracy, though. It's fiction and each author has the right to embellish or contort reality to fit the story they want to tell.

"Waterfall" is a fantastic first novella in the Dragon's Fate series and I can't wait to read about the next dragon brother.

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Waterfall is about four brothers who are half-dragon and half-human with powers that they are unable to use until they find their mate. They have lived for hundreds of years without either one of them finding their mate. When they find their mate it will unleash their magical powers.

Jordan and one of his brothers Ferrous finds a ship wrecked on an island. Out of all the passengers on the ship they only hear one heart beat. Jordan finds her all broken and bleeding and wants to make her dying less painful for her. He bites her and believes that the poison from his bite will kill her and make her suffering less. But he later sees her at a friend's wedding and she is the bride. Jordan is surprised to see that she is still alive and that she is now the Duchess of Hudson.

Jordan knows that she is his mate and is determined that they will be together. He thinks all he has to do his have a little conversation with the Duke and everything will be ok. He will have his mate and live happily ever after. But things don't happen that easily in real life. Jordan is in for a real surprise concerning the Duke of Hudson. The Duke of Hudson is not the person that Jordan and his brothers has always believed him to be.

Celeste the Duchess of Hudson who is also Jordan's mate has had a hard life. A father who was very abusive to her through out her whole life. Celeste wants to do what she needs to do to make her father happy but at the same time she knows that he is wrong and whats to do what makes her happy. She feels guilty if she doesn't do what her father whats her to do. This is the very reason she marries the Duke because it its what her father has arranged for her.

On the day of her wedding Celeste sees Jordan and knows immediately that he is the one that she loves the one that she wants to be with. She realizes that she is going to have to stop making her father happen and make herself happy instead. She thinks that she will never be with him though because she has just married the Duke. So therefore she can never be with him. But what Celeste and everyone else does not know is that Jordan will do what ever it takes to get Celeste she is his mate and they are destined to be together.

Waterfall is a quick read with a lot of twist and turns but I would like to have known more about Celeste, Jordan and his brothers like who they were and how they became who and what they are. Who and what did the Duke of Hudson become? Who turned the Duke into what he became?

Waterfall by Lacy Danes mixes in betrayal, lust, destiny, and dragon lore that is enticing and magical.

Jordan and his brothers who like him, are Zir, dragons with elemental powers. For as long as they know, they been searching for their mates. Finding their mates is the answer to figuring out their Zir origins on how they came to be.

In this novella, the main focus is on one of the brothers who actually finds his mate by either accident, destiny or pure luck. Jordan was mysteriously sexy in a very quiet way. He was intelligent and cared for human life. I loved his devotion to Celeste and how he’d risk everything just to be with her. Even though he knew they were meant to be together, he never forced her. He made sure she understood what was going on.

Celeste, though naive and innocent in more ways than one, I was astounded by her courage and the sacrifices she made. She handled everything very well. I enjoyed seeing her accept her newfound life and her relationship with Jordan. I also liked how she cared about marrying for love instead of power and prestige. Her connection with Jordan was inevitable, undeniable and sparkling. Their physical attraction was steamy and oozed all kinds of chemistry. It was sudden, but the events of the book gave way for their relationship to grow deeper with time.

Lacy Danes writing is sophisticated and beautiful. It’s perfect for the setting of this novel. She really gives it a dark, dangerous, and mysterious feel. I enjoyed learning about the the Zir’s powers and a little of their origins. Danes gives just enough to interest, but she hides plenty to keep you wanting to discover more. I must admit I had trouble getting into the book at first because of the old language, but as I dived deeper into the story, it got easier and easier. The pacing Danes set was just right. It was short and to the point with plenty of action. The sexy scenes are not graphic nor offensive. It’s just right for the feel of the story and for Jordan and Celeste’s characters.

Overall, Waterfall was a great novella! I’m looking forward to more of Jordan and Celeste and especially the rest of the Zir brothers.

If you’re looking for a short, sexy, and suspenseful read, Waterfall has it.

MY REVIEW
I received this novella from the Author via Bewitching Book Tours in exchange for my honest review.
The cover definitely caught my attention, I found it intriguing and immediately wanted to know more about the mysterious man on the cover. I then read the blurb (the bit above in blue totally overlooking the warning I have highlighted in red, so you don't miss it)
I expressed my interest in reviewing the book, then after saw the *Product Warning*, however I decided to still give the book a go. It wasn't the only misconception I had, for some reason I had thought this to be a short novella. It was not, it was quite an involved, decent length novella. Now what did I think to the plot? I thought the plot well thought out, and interesting enough to read the whole novella despite the erotic content. I thought the book could have been done just as well without the explicit sexual language. Did I like how the book was written? The book was fairly well written and it flowed well and then the terminology and phrasing would suddenly go off and be quite historical and I wasn't totally enamored by that. I did like the book and felt it such a shame that the erotic content scenes could not have been handled differently in perhaps a more "romance book" way that would in my opinion allow the book a wider audience. I mean don't get me wrong if you like books with erotic content then go for it, "whatever floats your boat" and all that, I aren't a prude, I just don't enjoy reading explicit sexual scenes. I just thought it a shame to cut out a whole wider audience, who would have enjoyed, the mythology, and other aspects of the book.
So did I enjoy the book? Honestly? Yes, despite the erotic content and sometimes too old fashioned phrasing for me. Would I recommend? Not sure on that one really. Would I read more by Lucy Danes? Possibly, if not erotic content, however if she writes anything else would definitely give it a go. Would I go on to read more in this series? I would love to say yes because I did love the mystery and mythology aspects of the book, but truthfully the whole sexual explicit descriptions are just not for me so sadly, probably won't read more of this series.

There's a lot happening in Lacy Dane's novella, Waterfall, in such a short span of time that it's hard to keep up with all the characters and action going on between the pages. What starts out as an intriguing paranormal premise soon evolves into a mish-mash of frantic events that don't blend cohesively and cause the love story to get lost along the way.

Four brothers who carry paranormal abilities based on the elements but also have traits of a vampire and dragon are desperate to find their mates who can help them gain back their weakening abilities have to band together when the youngest, Jordan, unexpectedly finds his mate who's just married another. The path to their HEA isn't an easy one though as a dark force uses someone they consider a friend to cause the first step in bringing the brothers down. Each of the brothers is sexy and commanding and while we get a good idea as to Jordan's abilities, the other's aren't quite as clear. One of them is particularly a mystery and shows up for a brief moment late in the story. Their interactions are contentious as some of them are more arrogant than the others but there's still something about each of them that's irresistable. Jordan's mate Celeste ran hot and cold for me. Sometimes I liked her for her spunkiness and easy acceptance of the changes going on around but then she would do something feather-brained and become annoying. Ultimately, she won me over as it's she who saves the day.

The few sexual encounters in the story are hot, with the first being particularly creative. The action scenes actually outnumber the bedroom scenes with the reasons behind them not always clear or necessary. The big bad and his purpose is another thing unclear as is the future of two characters who undergo dramatic physical changes within the last few pages, one of those character's changes seemed particularly over-the-top and out of the blue.

Overall, this was an enjoyable story with a very unique premise. The characters seemed well suited and interacted in entertaining ways. While there was too much going on in too short of a space that led to confusion and a schizophrenic feel the creativeness still won me over and has me greatly anticipating the next book in this story.

RATING ★★★ 1/2

Four brothers created by one creator, a vampire named Carmen. Four elemental brother who can each control an element living in a world with limited knowledge as to what they are and what their purpose is. They are powerful and immortal. They are Zir.

I'd like to give a fair warning this early in the review. This is a novella not intended to be read by readers younger than 18 years old. It contains explicit scenes that is not appropriate for younger readers.

Okay moving on, this is a short story. Less than 200 pages and from what I have read so far, it was good yet I had an issue somewhere in the book. The story is interesting actually, vampires that have dragon blood. Now that is quite an unusual story as I haven't read anything like that. Another lovely part of the story was because this was set not in the modern time (I couldn't quite determine what era) so the dialogue and terminologies was not what I expected but grew to enjoy. I love how descriptive Danes was with her characters as well as the world in the book and how she wrote the story beautifully however there were some parts of the book that was a bit rushed which resulted to some questions and confusions on my end.

The sexual content was good. To be honest, I don't read erotica or a novel that I know has too much sex scenes. I don't enjoy it as much as some readers can so to lessen the chances of a book to get a low rating due to that reason, I stay away. I did see the warning in this novella however the story itself sold me and convinced me to try it just this once and I wasn't disappointed. Those scenes were hot and naughty alright and I enjoyed every word of it.

Overall, quick read and interesting story that needs a little development when it comes to the structure of how the story is told. Characters, world building and overall pacing was great, I don't have any issues there except a little more information as to who they are up against or how it came to be BUT maybe that's part of the next book so I maybe a little impatient here. :) Sex scenes were a win and it doesn't dominant the book so it is entertaining and distracting if you know what I mean. *grin*

Jordan is going back to London to once again save his brother Elmir from his folly. Looking out for Elmir is a tiring job and as soon as he hit land, he knows tragedy has been here before. His one act of kindness changes his life course forever, and now he needs to learn about five hundred years of history, a curse, his true enemies and how to keep his mate happy and safe. Is he ready for that?

Celeste doesn’t even remember her almost death. What she knows is her gloomy reality. Now she is married to a duke she doesn’t love, to help her bossy father and do her duty. What she doesn’t expect is to enter a journey of passion, magic and beings she didn’t even know existed. How can she embark this new path while she is married to a man that is not her fate?

Waterfall is one of the most unusual reads I’ve had in a long time. Everything in it is very new, even the beings are not one I could easily defined. Ms. Danes has shown a creativity beyond belief to create this new world of “Zirs”. They are dragons, human and something else. They are undefined really, but they are tall, hot and dangerous!

I really enjoyed this strange new world and I was hooked from the first chapter of the book. I’m still full of questions, in fact, I guess I have more questions now, than at the beginning of the book, but I’m also really looking forward to see this story arch unravel.

Ms. Danes has created a great plot, with good characters and a nice story flow. If I have to point out the only flaw in my opinion, it has to be how fast it all happens, and how easy Celeste embrace this new world. I would love to understand Celeste and Jordan better, but at the same time, I expect next book to be about a different brother and a different female. So, I’m unsure, if I will even truly know them and if all my questions will be answered.
You MAY read this book because you like paranormal reads, you SHOULD read this book if you enjoy erotic tales; but you MUST read this book if you are ready to embark into a new series that will bring a breath of fresh air into your readings!

“Water.”The voice in her mind came again. “Calm, deep, dangerous and soothing. All contained in a man.”

Ok, so think witch doctor meets vampire meets dragon- all wrapped up in an extremely HAWT tall guy… It’s just awesome! I love the way little magics began happening and it made the story so much fun! And what a way to play into adultery!! It makes ya think, what if you really did marry the wrong dude… AND… I’m normally not a big fan on historical type stories, but I really enjoyed it. I’ll chalk it up to me expanding my pleasure of reading good stories

I’m gunna talk about Jordan, in like one second, but I think Madoc is going to be my dragon book boyfriend… You on with that ladies? Oh well if you aren’t hahahaha!! Ok so back to Jordan. He’s normally the sensible one, but lets just say figuring out he found his mate made him a little crazy. And with reason, as the man keeping him from his mate is hiding some bad secrets as well. Jordan is strong, powerful as he’s gaining powers, and though at times Cave man like, he’s still sweet in his own way. Sometimes you forget how different that time period was, as I probably woulda slapped him after I kneed his groin for scaring me in the bathroom scene hahahaha you gotta read it to know

Celeste has kinda had it rough… Her father should be beaten til death, her husband needs a swift kick to his behind and I absolutely love her maw! That little old lady is totally awesome! That’ll be me in 50 years lol but Celeste grows and faces fears and finds love and gets almost killed and then to top it off figures out she’s the mate to a dragon shifter! Ummm I’ll take it she’s timid because that’s expected in that time but she has a very strong backbone in her mind. She politely smiles and acts proper while thinking truth in her mind. I enjoyed her!

I’m looking forward to more stories, especially of more brothers, from this author. As the beginning, I think some more answers will come to light in the future. And I especially liked how they became what they are and the curse! And Carmen I think it’ll be an even more fun ride on the next stop! I’m excited for more! 4.5 SMOKIN HAWT PAWS FROM ME!!

Waterfall is the first book in the new Dragon's Fate series by Lacy Danes. Jordan and his brothers are part dragon, though they are cursed to stay in human form. They have been losing their powers, and their only hope is to find their destined mates – which they have been waiting years for. To see if a woman is their mate, they must bite her. If she lives, she is their mate – all others die.

Jordan finds Celeste, who is dying after being injured in a shipwreck. To end her suffering, he bites her. A few days later, he finds out that she has lived and is married to the Duke of Hudson. Once they meet, they feel an undeniable connection. Jordan must convince her that she is married to the wrong man, and that she is his mate.

The story is set in the 17th century in London. It has more erotic content than I am used to reading in a historical romance. The sex scenes are pretty descriptive and steamy. Jordan and Celeste's sexual relationship happened rather quickly though. I like for there to be more build up, but it's understandable considering the short length of the story. With novellas, there's not a whole lot of time to get to know the characters and find out more on their background. There are quite a few different words used to describe the man and woman parts during the sex scenes. I was a bit distracted at the changing of terms, and found myself laughing out loud at one of the descriptions (which isn't exactly a good thing when reading steamy, passionate love making).

The whole story has a mysterious feel to it. There's a lot of unexplained things going on – things that never do get explained. The plot is interesting, just a bit rushed. Overall, it's an enjoyable book. If you're looking for a mixture of historical, paranormal, and erotic – then this is the book for you!

What I Thought

The first few chapters of this book made me wonder if I was going to like it. It led in with loads of great detail about the the characters, but I wasn't sure where it was headed. However, there was suddenly a beach scene, that was more intimate than I could have every expected (and was exceptionally well written), that pushed everything into place.

From that moment on, I was completely hooked on this book. Every detail, every moment was filled with anticipation, yearning and loads of tension. The characters came into their own and I found that I really connected with them.

That was only the beginning, as each character really grew and I learned to love some and hate some. I chose my side and found myself wishing and hoping for moments to go certain ways.

There were twists and surprises in the story that surprised me. Often, stories that are a mix of fantasy and romance try to throw twists in just for the sake of it, but the author really had a knack for knowing exactly when to supply us with a lustful or heart-wrenching twist.

I loved the pace of this book. It had the feel of an action story. The mix of fast-moving fights and love scenes with the vampiric love scenes, which were quick and dripping with lust, desire and need. Yet, the author was still able to give us enough detail to ensure that we knew all that we needed to about the characters, to be able to connect with them.

Overall, I loved every moment of they book. It was nothing like the love and action of Twilight. It was a completely different sort of tale- and I LOVED it for this. The tension, action and lust made this story one that I couldn't put down and couldn't wait to get back to. I needed to know where the story led. If you love vampires, but find Twilight a bit dull, then this book is definitely for you.

A digital copy of this book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

"Oooh, look, a dragon book!" This was my first reaction upon reading the blurb. Being a fan of paranormal tales and fantasies, I am always up for a good read that combines magical lands with romance. This proved to be a pretty enjoyable read. The tale revolves around the four Zir brothers, who are dragons in human form. They are all cursed to remain oblivious to who they are, and the only way for them to find their respective mates is to seek women who will not find their bites lethal - literally! To add to this complexity, their powers are diminishing too. Jordan and Ferrous, two of the brothers, chance upon a shipwreck. To end the misery of a dying woman in the wreck, Jordan bites her and wipes it off his mind, presuming she died. When he encounters her again, on her wedding day, wedded to another man, Jordan is in for a very mind-boggling dilemma. The beautiful woman, Celeste isn't his, to claim anymore, as there is an obstacle in the form of Duke of Hudson, her husband. Does Jordan manage to make Celeste his wife, is what the book takes us through.

The plot is interesting, and I appreciate the fact that the ending isn't a cliffhanger, despite the book being part of a series. Out of all the characters, Celeste is the most difficult to fathom. Although the reader understands her bewilderment, her words and decisions still seem a bit off. The pace of the book is brisk through most of the book, and a bit overwhelmingly fast towards the end. The narrative is good throughout. I'm looing forward to reading the sequels.

I definitely recommend this book to lovers of paranormal romance.

My rating for this book: 3 stars

Whenever there is a character that is both dragon and human, it makes me wonder about what kind of story it can tell, so I was drawn to this short story. There are four brothers who are the recipient of a devious curse. Striving to find an elusive mate, their powers keep dwindling in the meantime. When one of them finally meets his mate in the most unbelieving way, the plot kicks off.

For starters, these four brothers are not exactly heroes to swoon over. They're born killers. As soon as the instinct urges them, these dragons in comely disguise bite a poor damsel in the throes of passion and she just dies from the poison if she's not the one meant as a mate.

From a romantic point of view, this situation just sucks. Although the steamy scenes were a bit cannibalistic for my taste, it was fun to read about the brothers' powers.

Oh the other hand, I really liked the dangerous, dark and villainous quality of this mythology. Mysterious origins of this dragon race, very seductive and resourceful powers over the elements, these are all features that awakened my curiosity. Overall, it is an entertaining, original paranormal story that portrays cursed dragons in a definitively dark light but who also have their dreams of passion and fulfillment.

Warnings
This novel contains explicit sex, for sure a adult read!

Jordan is one of the Zir. The Zir came from Carmen a vampire who mixed her blood with magic and formed the four elemental dragon princes. They are now cursed brothers that are doomed to human form, yet they are forced to walk the earth until they find their one true mate, in hope that she will help them unravel their destiny.
Jordan and one of his brothers Ferrous fall upon a shipwreck and don't expect to find any survivors. Until they hear a heat beat.
Jordan is determined to seek it out and end who’s ever suffering it might be, because no one could have survived the kind of wreck he see’s. What he never expects to find he does………

This is for sure an ADULT read. It’s a great novella and I can’t wait for more. I really enjoyed the whole dragon aspect of this story and very excited to read more form it. I liked the setting too, 17th century London, gets me every time. I enjoyed how the book flowed and kept me wanting more! I felt like a part of the story the whole way through and loved how the author kept it moving. I loved the intense adult contact; I am a sucker for it so it was awesome to read! It was a little rushed towards the end but it was still good!

3.5 stars.

An original concept set in the rich atmosphere of Victorian era England, based on hot men with dragon's blood in their veins, how could I resist? I loved the whole idea behind the premise. The writing is compelling, the characters are interesting, and the sex is smoking hot.

That said, it had a few issues that kept it at only three and a half stars for me. The writing was choppy and confusing in the beginning, forcing me to re-read sentences. I would have liked to have seen either less characters, or the characters that are in it to be developed deeper. There are a few too many that have very little to do with the plot, though I imagine this novella may be a setup for a future full length novel set in the same world. That said, I liked it enough that I would read another novel set in this world.

Under absolutely no control of the author, and therefore not her fault at all (poor thing), the novel was formatted horribly and could have used tighter editing. Shame on the publisher. Good formatting isn't hard these days.

Background: Jordan is one of the Zir, an ancient race who have been doomed to walk the planet in search of their eternal mates for centuries. One day he comes across a shipwreck and plans to help one in need, little does he know it will change their lives forever.

Review: I knew going into this book that there would be sex, however I was unaware of how much sex. There is a lot. I think that within the hundred fifty some pages there are at least fifty pages of sexual content. Aside from those section, the plot was an interesting one, the characters are menacing and intriguing all at once and the dragons and vampires add an interesting element to the story.

For me the only dislikes were the sexual content, I felt like the whole story revolved around them and I understand that it is probably meant to, but it left me questioning the plot ...or lack there of, since there was so much.

DEF. an ADULT READ!

Ah! I LOVE Dragons, I don’t find many books where I actually enjoy the read though. The concept of dragons seem to differ from author to author so you can truly play with them. I LOVED how Lacy portrayed her dragons. The Zir. They are so different from “normal” dragons. And the mystery with the sex scenes, ah it makes for a great read!

First some back story. There are 4 brothers all cursed and yet they know very little about their curse. They know they have to find their mates, but how do they tell who their mates are? They have to bite them. Now biting a woman who isn’t there mate kills that woman. So you see it is more of a challenge than you thought.

Jordan finds his mate, but she is marrying another man. Jordan is sex on feet. Celeste is his mate. She is amazing. I loved her. She makes many sacrifices for Jordan. I don’t want to ruin the book for you so MAKE SURE YOU READ IT!

I read 60% of this before throwing in the towel.

Dragons! What's not to like? Well, adultery, wallpaper historical features, boring hero, heroine runs hot/cold. Oh, and the sex just feels added in for the sake of sex, not to further the story.

We've got four brothers who have no idea who they are except for what some scroll tells them, yet they've been living for hundreds of years. Jordan finds Celeste barely alive from a shipwreck and bites her to put her down. A few days later he's at a party and sees her, yet she's introduced as the Duke of Hudson's new bride (as of that day). Of course now Jordan knows she's his mate. But she's a Duke's bride! What to do? Why go away and later, after she's consummated her marriage and is taking a bath, you use your power of water to sex her up!

I did not find this an easy read. The writing seems cryptic and...I don't know...just not easy to understand all the time. I've already purchased the next two stories in the series so I'm hoping it gets easier to follow.
I did not feel particularly connected to the main characters and the brothers don't seem particularly close. They just seem to be together and helping each other because of their connection to one another.

The story was okay for me. There were time where I just wanted to get the scene over with. I wouldn't be tearing down your door demanding that you read this, but I supposed it's a good story to read if you have nothing else to pass the time with. If you like dragons,a little romance, some erotica, and the victorian era, this book is for you.

The book has a lot going on and the romance is lost somewhere. The author should have written more about the magical lovers emotional aspects. Though it was hinted upon, it was never elaborated. But the passionate moments were fantastically well written and the story line is beautiful.

I enjoyed the premise of the storyline and the different take on Dragon were's but I found the writing style extremely difficult to read. I guess it felt like I was being told a story not living the story if that makes sense. I will buy the next in the series and see if things improve.

3.5 Stars. This was a fascinating paranormal adult read. The romantic scenes were highly erotic and the plot different and engaging.
