Check out the book tour and giveaway at my blog, Click here to go to the post. Read and excerpt too.

For Mature readers only, has some explicit sex scenes.

I actually really loved this book. I was not even sure what to expect when I signed up for this tour, the cover alone drew me in, and got me interested when I designed the tour button, so because of the cover alone, I went and looked it up to see what it was about. I was intrigued right away after reading the blurb.

I will admit, I am still a little lost when it comes to the different Houses and what exactly the Kindred are, but that does not mean I didn't still enjoy it. It’s just a lot to take in, but I was completely enthralled with this story, I could not put it down, read till 4:30 am one night, and had to make myself stop and finished the next morning, lol. There is a glossary and a sortof family tree and explanations to the Houses in the back of the book, and didn't know about that until I was finished, I really wish it was at the front, so I would have known, could have jumped to it to understand more as I read.

I get the impression that the Kindred are not exactly angels, but closer to the Greek gods, or a combo in this world. They are an ancient race that has been cursed long, long ago, and the only way to break this curse is for a Blessed (Blessed ones here are a reincarnation of one of the Fallen-the original ancient beings who were cursed, they bear the mark of the Fallen) kabashem (soul mate) couple to have a child. The way I understand this, is that this curse has split the soul of the original ones, so when a Kindred finds their kabashen (soul mate aka other half), they find their perfect mate, Anyway, the kabashen couples when they finally get together will ward off the worst of the curse, which is where they basically go nuts, called sangre saevitas (blood rage) or black veil (severe melancholia with episodes of psychosis) for the psi class of Kindred, it can happen to any at anytime, but if you find your mate, you will be ok from that, even if the soul mates do not stay together, which does happen, because of the conflict between the houses.

So, Serenity is a Blessed Kindred, who they call advenuati (Kindred who was raised outside of the collective amongst humans) and its said its only happened once, and I assume they mean Serenity.
So without saying too much on what actually happens, lets just say, there is lots to overcome with Serenity and her kabashen (soul mate) and I am glad when she meets him, as her life with longtime friend Evan, was so boring, she was settling, and really was depressed, but there is a reason for that. Her soul was waiting for the other half. Her soul mate comes in a gorgeous package of Cyrus. I really like Cyrus, had to get past some of his old fashioned thinking, but I did. ( he is old, but being Kindred, does not look it of course)

I was taken on an emotional rollercoaster with this story, I was so shocked a few times, one time in particular, and it had me crying, I could not believe what happens, and sure won’t be telling you. I do not want to spoil anything.

This book is very different, and exciting. I think anyone who enjoys the paranormal like me, will truly love this book. I can’t wait for the next. I know there has to be another, there is too much left to do, no way is that the end.

I give this book a huge 5 out of 5 stars, the writing was top notch, and had me hooked almost from the very start.

I was provided a copy of this book from the author for my honest review for the book tour.

Next book in series (I signed up for the book tour, in Oct-Nov, so will have a review then for it. I can't wait)

Where to i start with this book, well let me tell you this book will stay with me for this year and will be in my top reads for 2013.Yes i was that impressed with this Unique and exciting book it was such a refreshing change.

The storyline is very captivating and the words just flow from page to page i wasn't bored once with the pace of this book, this is a very very well written story.

The character's are just amazing from one kick ass female to a sexy ass male and all the back characters, you really do feel like you know them and i so want to live in their world.

There are some good sex scences and they are described beautifully and are very very hot literally.

We start of with meeting Serenity (great name) she has a unique ability to see people souls and when she touches hands with them she gets a image and it's perfect for her job as people seek her out to have the perfect tattoo. She is engaged to Evan who has been her best friend and only lover for 16 years.I do feel sorry for Evan he gets sucked in by Artemis and will go along with what she says to get Serenity back, but i do feel he did bring some off the stuff that happens to him on himself.

Cyrus is a in your face type of man so when he finally meets Serenity he doesn't hold back and the power between them when there are near each other is electrifying and he will do anything to have her.

When Serenity life is in danger Cyrus saves her and this is when she finds out what she is and what her and Cyrus are meant to do to save their kind. With the way she has been brought up she doesn't think she can give Cyrus and his kind what they need to be free of sangre saevitas and the dark veil.

With the different Houses trying to kill them both or at least one of them Serenity find what she has been seeing is her gift she finds a family she has craved for years but also danger from those she loved.

I loved some back characters especially Abbadon we did find out some of his story but would love to know more about him.I also loved Talus and Cassian they play a big part in this story and it does have a sad bit in the book to do with them (sob)

The book does have a Glossary explaining what the different houses are and what they stand for it also explains some of what the words mean like Blessed which are what Serenity and Cyrus are i think this would off been better of at the beginning of the book.

My favourite bit from the book is when Cyrus was saying loving words to Serenity to bring her back..

Come back to me my love,

And i will forfeit all that i have.

Return to me,plant sweet kisses upon my face,

And i will sacifice all that i am.

Stand at my side once more,

And i swear, only your flame shall burn in my eyes,

All others extinguished.

Hasten home to my arms, carried on the wings of love

for without you,I am hopelessly forsaken, lost in the cold abyss.

Beloved, hold my hand again and i will believe,

Not in my brothers or sisters.

Not in the creator or the promise of salvation.

No,all of my belief shall be saved for thee.

Now if that isn't saying he loves her i don't know what is.

I truely loved loved this book and i really Highly recommend it.
This will also be on my blog passionate about books.

When reviewing a book, I always look for that one sentence that stands out from the rest. That stays in your mind for hours, if not days, to come. This sentence was it for me.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that another author out there has remembered that there are literally thousands of other mythologies to choose from and write about aside from vampires and werewolves. Don’t get me wrong, I love those parties dearly. But they seem to be everywhere these days.

Serenity is a young woman who has always felt out of place, desperate to fit in and find a “normal” life, even though something inside of her tells her she’s anything but normal. Engaged to a man she doesn’t desire, but feels she owes, she’s willing to sacrifice bits of herself to please him and help him.

The book opens at the tattoo parlor that she works at and partially owns – her ability to read someone’s soul the first time she touches them allows her to create a one-of-a-kind tattoo for them that represents that person to their very core. The descriptions of the tattoos and the process by which it works… it makes me want to see these tattoos for myself (I have a fascination with them).

When she first meets Cyrus, the rush of desire she feels for him is beyond anything she’s previously experienced and she is definitely not ready for it. Her loyalty to her fiancée, Evan, is admirable.

Cyrus, a Kindred of the Fallen, is not human, and was not raised as a human – therefore, his attempts to woo Serenity in the beginning of the book are somewhat comical as well as pitiable. He has lived for two-hundred-plus years, knowing that he would find his kabashem; his soul mate. And the weight of his destiny and obligation to his people wars with his need to make his one true love happy in every way. Eventually, he opens Serenity’s eyes and mind to a whole new world that she never knew existed but that she was born to be a part of.

The book, itself, has a bit of an issue with flow, but with the way that Serenity is gaining the information on this new world, it keeps the reader off balance as much as it does Serenity – so much information in such a short time can be, and is, exhausting and confusing. For some readers, this may be an issue.

What I like most about this book is that, as previously mentioned, it’s not about vampires and werewolves. Upon reading a short bio on the author, I learned that she has travelled the world quite a bit, opening her up to the various mythologies out there. And I love that she is sharing her knowledge and using it to open up a whole new area of fantasy romance. Rushdan adds a glossary at the end of the book to give you some in-depth definitions of the various terms she uses, though I wish that these terms were a bit more clearly explained in the book. Unless you know the glossary is there, it can be a bit confusing.

As a first book for a series, as well as the first book that Rushdan has published (to my knowledge), this is a good start. The bits where the storyline gets choppy or slow can be a bit distracting and one of the secondary characters isn’t fully explained. When Serenity first meets him, she is put-off by him on a gut-level, which would seem to indicate that there is something wrong with him. There are various prophecies saying “enemies are friends and friends are enemies” (no spoiler there, as that’s usually the case) but it’s never fully explained as to who is whom in this case. Perhaps more of this will be revealed as the series continues.

For now, I give this book 3 out of 5 flowers. I liked the book but I would like to see it developed a little bit more.

I was impressed with this first book of the Kindred of the Fallen. This is a story about love and redemption. I was riveted by both characters finding each after a long search. I can't wait to read about their next adventure.

Kindred Fallen by Isis Rushdan

Wow, is the first word out of my mouth as I read Kindred Fallen, a fantastic story birthed by Isis Rushdan. What is there in Kindred Fallen not to love or appreciate? It invigorates the gray matter, emotions of love, security, commitment, honesty and sacrifices to correct wrongs on spiritual and physical realms. The dynamic power of various energies are intertwined and in my opinion possesses the state of oneness or completion since as humans we are beings of both physical and spirit.

IT IS A BOOK FOR MATURE ADULTS ONLY!!

On this roller-coaster ride of societal politics, survival, protection, eroticism I became personally invested into this new society and the impact these issues have on the characters' relationships. The realism of Kindred Fallen although fiction on a paranormal plane marches in step with what a reader can plainly visualize and identify with as cultural differences on Earth plays influences a major role in living a fruitful life.

I clicked immediately with Serenity Shaw on a number of different characteristics: how she connects with the inner person behind the shield, her no nonsense approach in what she believes in, her strength, devotion to those she loves. Who can resist a powerful leading lady? Serenity's possession of these attributes accompanies a bit of pain, frustration when there's a lack of the full comprehension surrounding the importance of interacting energies. Serenity's gift of seeing into souls makes her company Soul Ink Designs a body art business unique because of her capacity of harnessing the true aspects of a person. Her talented business is sought after among many elite individuals with deep pockets.

The meeting of two strangers: Serenity and Cyrus occurs as a business transaction that causes quite an unsettling transmission of vibrations, knowledge, but reluctancy.

Cyrus is the man after my heart, soul and hmmm, that electrifying fire power of his assertive personality makes him a to die for partner. The manner in which his persona radiates make my knees buckle. Cyrus knowledge, protectiveness, a commanding warrior and deliciously self assured is a fantasy come true. I enjoyed the animated dialogue, and vigorous displays of energies shared between Serenity and Cyrus. His presence in Serenity's life may be a extremely risky one.

Evan is a successful, handsome, gentle soul and I loved him for that reason. However, I partially shared Dougie's opinion of Evan being a safe bet. Serenity is engaged to Evan and Evan felt to me as comfortable as a pair of your favorite slippers. I felt that Serenity may be settling for less than perfection across multiple platforms in her relationship with Evan.

Evan role has been a major part of Serenity's life and serves as a safety net lacking the sparks of adventure and challenge. Could there be more out in this beautiful world of sensuality, companionship than the just calmness perhaps a life with Evan will provide as a lifelong partner? Hmm!!

Dougie is refreshing, comical but that can be annoying. His antics caused me a few good chuckles early in the narrative. He has Serenity's back and wants her to explore life's flavors beyond she French Vanilla although tasty and satisfying it is not as exotic or intoxicating as Hot Spicy Mocha Rum topped with luscious fresh whipped cream.

Ms. Rushdan's character development is awesome and speaks deeply to the heart and mind of her audience. Ms. Rushdan illustrates the power of a vivid imagination and the understanding of spiritual energies to create a fantastic story that I could not put down. The way she incorporates other personalities into the story is mind bending because it is done seamlessly. The background knowledge of Egyptian history or some my call it mythology is enlightening. This is one aspect that penetrates my mind and stimulates a curious sense of wonderment. The fluidity of her writing style, characters, settings and the other key story elements reflects a passion for carrying the reader outside of “box” to a place where there are numerous potent, eye popping “wow” moments. Ms. Rushdan's message to her audience is crystal clear and captivating. I have motivated my friends by sharing fragments of the story's beginning so that they too would read and enjoy the book which enables us to engage in spirited discussions it over wine, cheese. I can hardy contain myself as I wait for them to finish reading Kindred Fallen.

Kindred Fallen is a terrific summer read, shimmers with excitement reminiscent of the moon reflection of its beauty on the ocean waves. There is abundance of steamy, titillating intimate encounters and suspense as the secrets of Kindred Fallen unfolds.
Kindred Fallen is a series I plan to follow and anticipate this series will mushroom into a paranormal lovers frenzy.

I was hooked from the first sentence onward. I'm a slow reader and I finished this book in about two sittings. The storyline was captivating, writing was decent and the characters were intriguing.

I loved the idea of a soul reading tattoo artist, soul mates, and the bonus of people with wings. There's lots of fighting and a couple sex scenes (yes, one does shatter glass). The writing wasn't the best I'd seen, but wow, I loved the imagery.

In the book, Serenity struggled with her mother's abandonment of her and her father's apparent suicide. Later, she found out the true reason her mother left their family and that her father was actually murdered, but hadn't found out where her mother gone to or who killed her dad. I look forward to figuring out this little mystery!

I had this weird love/hate relationship with the characters.

I don't get book boyfriends that often. I gained one with 'Kindred of the Fallen'. Cassian... *sighed dreamily and gazed off into the distance* Could I be his soul mate, please?

Overall, I dislike Cyrus, Serenity's soul mate. He was very possessive, to the point where he wanted to control Serenity's thoughts and actions. There was even some dub-con elements too (if you look at it that way) when he had unprotected sex with Serenity to only get her pregnant, and even ordered his wards to take away her birth control without her knowledge. Cyrus stalked Serenity before formally meeting her. I feel bad that I do not like Cyrus since he was a major part of the novel, but there you go.

Serenity, I flip-flopped on. The novel was basically her journey, discovering that Cyrus and the Kindred, so you empathize with her. I did enjoy her overall, but some moments I wanted to scream at her for being stupid.

Abaddon, though not well-developed, was probably my favorite character. He was always stoic, and sarcastic. I loved him. I will enjoy seeing more from him in the future and seeing how his character develops (maybe see him crack a smile).

Talus was the more rebellious sister of Cassian. I hated her for the majority of the novel until a certain event happened (yes, I know I labeled this with Spoilers but that doesn't mean that I will give everything away). After that event I grew to understand her more and even like her.

I honestly didn't really feel anything for Serenity's ex, Evan, other than that I felt bad for him getting dumped, and that he was crazy.

The author didn't explain clearly what the Kindred were. They're not aliens, not Gods, not humans, nor higher beings. All of those options were ruled out in the novel. But... then what were they? Rushdan also didn't explain Serenity's soul reading ability (since it seemed that none of the other Kindred had this gift).

There was a handy dandy glossary in the back to explain the different houses, the Kindred words, etc. Yet that's the problem. The book was done, over. It would have been better if the glossary was in the beginning of the novel, so it was in the forefront of my mind as a reference I could return to, instead of a 'surprise' explanation of things. An alternative could be using footnotes.

I look forward to reading the sequel, 'Protectors of the Flame'.

Serenity Shaw is a woman who can read anyone's soul and use that knowledge to create unique one of a kind tattoos. Despite her gift she struggles with finding lasting human connections with people and finding a place where she feels she belong. She has only two friends. Dougie Alexander her business partner in their tattoo shop and Evan Wade her fiancé. Serenity has known Evan most of her life and became engaged to him mostly out of a sense of loyalty to him than for love.

During a tattoo consultation in walks her Serenity's new client Cyrus Ambrose. Cyrus is devastatingly handsome with black hair and blue eyes who greatly disturbs Serenity when she discovers that he is the first person who she cannot read his soul. Later that evening at a dinner party she meets Cyrus again. She feels physically and spiritually drawn to him despite her will against it due to her engagement to Evan. It is not until she meets him for a third time that she begin to discover that Cyrus is much more than he seems and that he is not human he is Kindred. She was even more shocked to discover that she was also not human. Cyrus informs her that she is his kabashem or the other half of his soul.

What follows in this story is gradual information about who and what Kindred is. Serenity is forced to go under Cyrus protection as she is being hunted by others groups of Kindred each for their own political purposes. While under Cyrus's protection, she eventually discovers that Cyrus has other reasons for claiming her besides finding his soul mate that could mean redemption for all Kindred. As Cyrus gets to know her better the lines between his duty and his feelings for her becomes blurred and he is force to choose between his love for her and his duty to his people.

I love this story because it is so much more than a paranormal romance. This book takes you on an adventure that has political intrigued, a bumpy romance based on the lack of communication, and a mystery involving what happen to Serenity parents and how she, as a Kindred, was left alone to be raised in the human world. The plot is enticing and has a level of complexity that constantly moving and constantly keeps you interested in the story until the end. You develop a love quickly for the members of Cyrus's extended Kindred family as they try to understand Serenity humanistic ways and their impatience with her attachments to humanity. Will they be able to adjust and overcome their differences for the common good and salvation of their people before it too late?

So my feelings run pretty hot and cold on this one. It's such an interesting premise. I was excited by this new twist mythology and was interested in reading about a tattoo artist who used a supernatural gift to create the perfect tattoo for her clients. The world of the Kindred is amazing and although I'm still not clear on some of the details, I love the creativity that went into it all -- I mean, hello, blue angelic beings!!!

There's also a great blend of mystery and action in KINDRED OF THE FALLEN. I liked the slow peeling apart of truth of Serenity's past and the suspense of the action scenes. I did feel the book lacked the complexity to merit being 460+ pages and found myself skimming at points. This was especially true of the copious amount and length of sex scenes. I enjoy a steamy scene as much as the next girl, but these scenes went on for pages and pages and there were quite a few of these.

What really hurt this book for me was my complete dislike for the main characters. I can forgive characters that I just don't connect with or characters that just aren't developed fully, but Serenity and Cyrus fell completely flat for me. If they had shown even a bit of character growth I might've gotten on board, but I didn't see any significant change in these characters and I could not bring myself to like or even respect them. Cyrus was a complete bull and Serenity was so easily swayed. I couldn't see her giving up every part of her human life as a good thing. Their relationship was dysfunctional at best.

I did really love Cassian and Talus, a brother and sister raised by Cyrus. Cassian is heroic and kind; Talus shows beautiful character growth. These two are bright rays in a cast of less-than-fabulous characters.

The book concludes well, with a good portion of closure but enough left unfinished to entice a reader into book two. There's a lot of great romance in this last portion, too, but my dislike for the main characters made it hard to appreciate. I'm not sure that I'll continue on with the series; I'd like to see what happens with the story line and whether Serenity and Cyrus develop into an emotionally healthy couple, but I'm not sure I want to invest the reading time to find out.

I absolutely LOVED this book. The Kindred world that Isis paints is so intricate, full of mystery. She did a great job with the different names and houses there existed. So glad she added a glossary at the end!! It was pretty neat how she used Egyptian mythology. Sort of reminded me of the movie the Fifth Element, which also had Egyptian themes and of creatures that had existed thousands of years ago, and the one thing that would save humanity and the world (well, in the case of the book it's the saving of the Kindred).

At times (more in the beginning), Serenity would annoy me, but she acted exactly how you would think one would act if raised by humans, and told as an adult that not only were you not human, but that you had to procreate to save her race. The one that left me wondering at the end was Abbadon. He was somber and wondered what he was thinking about. I fell in love with all of the characters because Isis does such a great job describing them and their feelings. You totally feel connected to them. My favorite was Talus and Cassian. Very sad when something happened in the story to them.

Cyrus was what you would expect in an alpha male, but not done obnoxiously. The sex scenes were great and not done distasteful. Serenity seems like such a pure creature, that when things got rowdy between her and Cyrus, I loved it!!

Evan was annoying. It was so obvious that he had an addiction to Serenity instead of love. When she left, he felt like he was loosing control and did bad things. But, they were together for 16 years, so I can see it being hard to move on when all you have known has been that one relationship.

I was sooooo sad when the book was over. I know a lot of turmoil still exists, and Cyrus and Serenity still haven't made it to Herut. I'm sure a lot of adventures are still to come, and I'm looking forward to the next book!!! :-)

I got a free copy of this book, in exchange of an honest review and for participating in the blog tour.
Firstly I would like to thank the author, the publisher and the tour organiser for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this fabulous book.
Ah! It was a pleasant surprise for me. I really didn’t expect this book to be such awesome and I was really surprised when I finished it. I loved the characterization and all the characters were fully flourished and developed except the lead character, Serenity. I felt that she didn’t develop throughout the book and to be honest I like the slow development of the characters because it brings out more colours and aspects of their nature. Secondly the sex scenes were dragged too much and after a few lines it felt gross.
Apart from these two points I liked the other contents of this book very much. I fully enjoyed the action scenes which were in abundance in here and I also loved the slow and gradual revelation of the huge secret that will knock you off! Well, you will get this surprise towards the very end. The self-discovery of Serenity was an interesting experience and I loved the way it was executed but Serenity just got along with Cyrus from the very first without any hesitation or question, that felt a little unreal but given their situation, I mean part of a same soul and all, this fact can be accepted.
The plot and world building is remarkably fantastic and it is well planned out giving a real feel to it. The Kindred World is great to explore and it’s full of shocks and surprises, so beware!!! Overall a good read and I would recommend it to paranormal romance lovers. Hope that you guys will enjoy it as well.

More at my blog: Scrollin' Them Papers

Reading this book was such an interesting experience. Imagine getting yourself thrown in a world where the continuity of a whole race was suddenly on your shoulder. Where you found that you were not even human and suddenly every name you learned sounded either Egyptian or Greek. Well that's exactly what happened to Serenity.

Oh wait, she also found her "soulmate". Well, while things might sound cliche to you guys, the settings were actually fresh and new to me. I quite enjoyed having learned a new PNR setting beyond your typical vampire and werewolf. Those who find PNR getting more and more repetitive with the ridiculous influx of vampires and werewolves, look no further! Kindreds are the new thing. They are blue, they have impenetrable skins and they can fly!

No really.

As a fan of ancient gods mythologies, I had fun reading this. And although some terms, hierarchies and such still confused me at some parts, I have high hope for liking the book universe as a series and whole. I wish the battle scenes had a little more flow though. They feel very clunky, awkward and not engaging at all.

Sadly, I didn't really care for the MCs as much as I wanted to. Cyrus and Serenity? They were okay. Instead, I adored Cassian and Abaddon a whole lot more! I want to know more about Abaddon, a sequel about him, please?

For now, I'm intrigued. I look forward for the next installment :D

This book artfully blends the worlds of human and Kindred so well that humans are totally unaware of the Kindred. Kindred are something akin to fallen angels in concept - descendants of powerful beings who became to greedy for even more power. Their creator punished them and the yet the cycle repeated itself. The Kindred were created - each containing half a soul from the punished, with the only way to end the curse by reuniting with the other half of their original soul.

Ms. Rushdan did a nice job of combining the paranormal and the normal into a blended world filled with fascinating characters. It was enjoyable to tag along on the ride with Serenity and Cyrus, and what a ride it is. The book is packed with action and raw, steamy passion that once it got rolling snowballed into an uncontrollable avalanche. Hopefully there will be a sequel or more to allow us to keep traveling further down the rabbit hole with Serenity, Cyrus, and the rest of the gang.

I liked the story and will check out the next in the series, The pacing was good and I wanted to find out what was going to happen. I didn't like that at times Cyrus came off kind of stalkerish and pretty pushy. He seemed to have a double standard out of Serenity. I also didn't like that it seemed Serenity had to give up everything and do things Cyrus' way, of course Cyrus didn't seem to have a choice in what to do with his life either. This seems negative, but there were a number of times where Cyrus was caring and thoughtful. I did think that the relationship took big leaps, especially at the end, that i wasn't sure that they were ready for. There were a lot of threads left hanging in the end, and I would have liked at least a few of the questions answered.

You know what? Life's too short to read books where you repeatedly want to slam a main character in the head with a table leg until they have no more blood left to bleed...

This book was relatively well-written, and I enjoyed the pretence. HOWEVER, OH MY GOD THE CHARACTERS! 90% of them I wanted to murder - the only one that I didn't was Cassian, and he's a pretty minor character. I got almost three quarters of the way through this book before I realised that there was a second book, and the thought of being invested in this series annoyed me muchly.

It had so much potential, and if the author writes something else I'll be sure to read it!

Nice and original but not life altering.
I enjoyed reading Kindred of the Fallen but I kept expecting more... I didn´t feel like I HAD to stay awake all night to finish it.
I felt that Cyprus and Serenity´s relatioship is not that deep. I had the impression it was more about dependency than real feeling, I mean they are in love after 3 or 4 days... it´s like so obsesssion.
The other charaters (Talus, Abaddon, Evan...) didn´t feel deep enough. They had history but they didn´t feel real enough in my opinion.

A well written paranormal, New Adult/Adult story. Characters were descriptive and interacted well. This is part one of a series and although the author has written an excellent book it just didn't engage me as deeply as other books in this genre - maybe I've been spoiled by other authors who've covered this area so well before.
