Book one of the My Body Trilogy (Dark Erotic Suspense, not Romance)
Jane Stiles is successful in business but bored with her socially mundane existence. One night at a party, she meets an intense and compelling stranger named Luke. This fateful encounter prompts her predictable life path to veer into uncharted territory, sweeping her along on a frightening erotic journey into the world of bondage, domination and submission.
Jane had never experienced genuine desire, and now passion consumes her life, robbing her of free will. Her new lifestyle creates an emotional chasm between her and her old friends. Will they understand why she has abandoned her high ideals and long-term plans for a traditional wedding?
What society considers right or wrong no longer matters. Prepared to surrender everything to Luke, she wonders if her everything will be enough. She now needs his discipline as much as she craves his love and approval. How far down this dark path is she willing to go?
Jane’s pilgrimage into domination and discipline has created a war between her mind and her body, and her body is claiming victory.
Great read...not for the squeamish ;)...hardcore stuff! Loved this book. Totally different read for me and a real eye open too! this is a very gripping storyline to the point of wanting to shout at my kindle based on two characters Jane & Luke. Luke is a Dom and wants Jane...will she enter the world of BDSM lifestyle he offers?.. will it it change her if she does? well you'll have to read it and find out! Fantastic...Brilliant...HOT! Well worth the read. you won't be disappointed ;)
Jane Stiles seemingly has it all, a great job and great friends, all that was missing was someone to love. Lonely and bored with her life, Jane agrees to attend a party with her running buddy/sex buddy but little does she know, a chance encounter with a stranger will change her life forever.
My Body His is sure to take you on a head spinning, emotional journey into the world of BDSM. You think you know everything there is to know about the Dom/Sub relationship…You have no idea.
Author Blakely Bennett weaves an emotional tale of love, submission, discipline, control, compromise and ultimately loss of self that will leave you wanting more. I really did enjoy this book lol… don’t know what it says about me but I found it to be a more realistic depiction of the lifestyle as opposed to the billionaire finds a woman, gives her mind blowing orgasms, a few spanks, marriage and then happily ever after. Dom/sub relationships can run the gamut from the tame to the extreme, I see this as somewhat middle of the road although Luke would in no way be the ideal Dom (nor should he be a potential Dom) in a real life situation.. unless of course..you’re into that ~WINK~ .
My Body His was a riveting read. The story was well paced, well written and the characters, a well-developed, interesting lot. Bennett handles the details and imagery with great care as the reader is able to picture each and every scene. I felt as if I was there with Jane and the rest of the guest at her wedding. Beautifully done.
My Body His stirred up a whirlwind of emotions within me, anger, sadness, pity, and I even managed to crack a smile a few times. I truly felt as if I was on this journey with Jane and what a journey it was! How she could go from a seemingly normal life to being ruled by her vagina and a need for love, was interesting but I found Luke, the ass that he is, the most intriguing. I know women think with their hearts and men…well with their heads(No, not that head, the other head *eyebrow waggle*) but I just cannot understand how Luke could turn his emotions on and off just like that. I wanted to know what made him “tick”. He claimed to have loved Jane but showed more love and concern for his “things” than he did for her. I guess I just wanted some type of emotion from him. I’m sensing a story there somewhere..Luke’s story perhaps, before he met Jane? *hint-hint*
Jane, on the other hand, was a bit less intriguing but interesting none-the less. The things that Jane was willing to relinquish in order to gain Luke’s love and approval are simply unfathomable to me. We, as women, all have that little voice in our head… women’s intuition if you will, that tells us when something just isn’t quite right and Jane chose to ignore hers time and time again. Jane’s inner struggle of trying to justify the practical person that she once was with this beyond obsessed “stranger” that she had become was an arduous one, but ultimately, her need to be loved emerged the victor. Bennett hinted as to where this need stemmed from, poor relationship with her mother and an absent father but I felt that a bit of a back story was also needed, not only in the case of Jane but Luke as well. I need to know what personal experiences or perhaps traumas occurred in their lives that made Luke unforgiving and cold and Jane, love starved.
I know people may have a problem with the relationship between Jane and Luke as it isn’t a typical one in this “Fifty Shades Of Grey-esque” era. Some may say it’s abusive but honestly, I had no problem with it because it was consensual. While I can see the abuse and emotional mind “fuckery”, it’s what she signed up for. It’s true, theirs wasn’t a total TPE (Total Power Exchange) because she “had control” over her life outside of the house and she also had the option to use her safe word at any time. Granted, the use of her safe word would not only stop the physical aspect of their relationship but the relationship in general would also come to an end but again, Jane for whatever reason, was fine with it. Luke was up front with her from the beginning although initially she only experienced the pleasure but even after the discipline, she was still on board with it all for fear of losing Luke. She was so in love with the orgasms and possibly the man that she was totally willing to give up her identity bit by bit.
Over all, if you’re looking to move away from the predictability of BDSM novels that focus on the Billionaire and whomever he’s doing this week and you don’t mind a bit of “dark” reality with a dominant bite, you’ll absolutely love Bakely Bennett’s My Body-His!
A friend of my mine requested that I read this book to validate her thoughts. To see if she was crazy. She gave the book a 4.5 star. Another friend gave this book a 4 star. I guess I'm the first to give a 1 star. I did not enjoy this book. I hated the characters. I found this book to be completely BDSM hostile. I am disappointed in the book especially since the author took such great lengths to thank all the people who helped her with the BDSM lifestyle questions.
If this was a BDSM fantasy book, I could kind of let it slip by with the reprehensible things that happened here. The fact that this is presented as a BDSM contemporary book with romance, I found this book despicable.
Let's run down the good parts first. Ms. Bennett is a good writer. Her story was focused and there were no gaping holes or hanging threads. The editing was done just fine. There were no spelling or grammar issues to pull a reader out of the story.
Second, Ms. Bennett spent a good amount of the book showing rather than telling. This is very good as many authors experience difficulty with this part of writing. The reader can easily visualize the beach, apartment, beach house and office in this book.
Third, Ms. Bennett's character building was fine. Each character was different than the other and easily remembered. The downside is that there aren't any characters other than maybe Parker in this book who is a likeable character. I'll save the character issue for the parts I didn't like.
Fourth, Ms. Bennett's BDSM wedding was hot. Very hot. I liked the wedding but the intent behind it I couldn't agree with so it's also a fail for me. Some authors may write with "the ends justifies the means" mentality. In some cases this works great. Some may call me a hypocrite because there are times I agree with the ends justifies the means method. What people are missing is that there is a second variable for me. The second variable is intent. What is the intent and how are people on board with this intent? For me, the intent in this book is negative and not everyone is on board so I can neither agree nor condone this outcome.
What bothered me is the fucked main character - Luke. His double standards is a very prevalent misconception from those outside of the lifestyle. Luke is designed to be exactly what people think BDSM Doms are like. While I can agree there are probably Doms who are like this, this isn't how the Doms I know behave and they would have been horrified by this mockery of a D/s relationship. Let me give a good comparison. Let's take the wife beater. Let's use him as the model of what all husbands. Since he's a married man and he beats the shit out of his wife and kids perhaps we should just accept this as requirements to a husband, right? This type of behaviour is is acceptable and expected from a husband/father if we are using the same thought process as how Luke is designed. In reality, or at least the world I live in -- sure there are husbands out there that abuse their wives and beat their kids, but we don't call these men good husbands nor do we want to have anything to do with them. Yet they still hold the title of husband until they kill their wife/children. Then we just call that man a murderer.
In this case, Ms. Bennett's Dom is a predator whom we warn "new to BDSM" people away from. He doesn't negotiate, lacks communication skills and doesn't engender trust. What's even funnier is Luke's accusation of Jane's lack of trust between them. Show me where he has done something that would encourage trust. And his "get out of jail" card for Jane? His supposed "safeword" was an ultimatum. If Jane ever used it, they would be done. The relationship is immediately over. What the fuck? That had me seeing red immediately. If that isn't a warning alarm then I don't know what else would be for someone in a D/s relationship. Jane is completely inexperienced and doesn't know any better. She possess a one way ticket to death with Luke. He's forced her to give up her job, sell her home and get rid of her own transportation. She's now completely dependent on him.
Now, one can argue this happens in a TPE relationship. Yes, that is correct. It can happen. And in that type of relationship, it's a total power exchange. It's an exchange because the submissive wants to give the power to the Dominant. They want to do all this and are totally on board. Plus the Dom/me demonstrates they are fair and will cherish/share their life with the sub. Since the story is written from Jane's point of view. We know otherwise. Jane is not happy with this loss of control. She's being emotionally blackmailed into this situation. Do this or else I'll leave you. Do this or I'll have sex with other women. Do this or the marriage is off. What the hell is this? This a total power coercion which is a complete slap in the face of a healthy and loving D/s relationship. And this is why, the rating of the book is a 1 star for me.
If at each step of the way, Luke explained what he wanted and Jane realized it was what she wanted and she gave the control to him, I would have LOVED this book. Since this book did not pan out in this manner, I'm left feeling emotionally violated. This book is an excellent example of what to avoid in a BDSM D/s relationship. Ms. Bennett captured a dysfunctional and predatory Dom perfectly.
Not your typical "bdsm erotica." The writing goes well beyond the "kinky sex" most people initially think when they think of bdsm: whips, chains, servitude and an "underworld" where fantasy becomes reality. Although this book does include these scenes (and the reader is not disappointed,) this is actually a love story that is not so "underground" and flows into their everyday reality, similar to the movie The Secretary.
Jane meets Luke and immediately Jane needs someone like Luke to take care of her and give her what she needs, physically and psychologically - even though she has not known it. The point of view is of Jane, and her feelings, emotions and how she handles this new type of "love." The relationship between Luke and Jane moves very fast, perhaps faster than in real life, (perhaps because this isn't the length of a Stephen King novel,) but never the less, it depicts the type of relationship Luke wants and needs and perhaps, so does Jane.
The basis of the story is exactly as the title depicts: her body and enjoyment is now His to enjoy. Jane has many internal struggles: the intense loving and caring feelings of Luke coupled with his corporal punishment and controlling ways. She also struggles with fighting to hold on to her independence; which with her commitment to Luke, she gives up but not without a fight (which is more of a fight within her.) Lastly, how will her friends and family accept this "new" Jane?
The writing keeps you wanting to turn the page to find out what happens next, how far will Luke go? Has Jane had enough? Will she really go through and obey Luke - and risk embarrassment and humility in front of her family and friends? After all, she only has to speak the "safe word" and she's out. But it's not so easy to speak that word knowing that she will lose everything she realizes that she desires and needs.
If you read the 50 Shades of Grey, take the next step and read this book to find out what reality is like. Although the exact story may or may not have taken place, I would not consider this fiction. My Body - His, is written by a mature and seasoned writer who delves into the emotional mindset between two people who fill a psychological void in each other. Definitely worth the read.
The dark-side of reality is outrageous and intriguing. MY BODY-HIS is the delicious beginning of a sensational new trilogy by newcomer Blakely Bennett, where passion and obsession, reward and punishment are all on the menu.
I know I have a good book when it evokes powerful emotions as I am reading. I sometimes wonder what is wrong with me when I enjoy books like MY BODY-HIS – the life portrayed in the story is so far from anything I have ever experienced and I am quite certain I don’t care to experience, but the fact of the matter is… I LIKE IT! I don’t want to live it, but I like reading about it.
Jane is an independent woman. She has a great job, lots of friends and a crazy mother…all the more reason to be self-sufficient. Though her life is great on the outside, she is bored with everything, but is not exactly sure what she is looking for. One fateful night at a party with a friend, she encounters a mysterious and handsome stranger who calls to her like no other has before and she cannot resist the allure. His commanding tone and obvious dominance has her knees buckling and compels her to do his bidding from the first moment they meet.
Luke is not just dominant, but he is controlling, almost to the point of total power exchange. He claims to be a wealthy man, but he does not flaunt his wealth, which is somewhat refreshing, but also makes me skeptical. Honestly, Luke is one of those heroes you love to hate and I can’t really decide at the moment if I want him or want to kill him. His behavior and dominance enrages me for Jane’s sake – his expectations and requests of her are outrageously over the top…you will just have to read it for yourself because I really don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but trust me when I say his demands are outside the realm of “normal.” Luke has an extreme aversion to behaving in a manner he expects from others and this was oh-so frustrating as a reader because I really wanted to slap that commanding tone right out of his mouth. Hold on, I am making him sound like a complete jerk – he is not a total jerk, he is very generous with doling out orgasms and THAT is a positive in my book ☺
The extreme emotion I experienced while reading MY BODY-HIS was at times overwhelming, but in a good way. Though MY BODY-HIS can easily be read as a stand-alone, it is the first book of three and I am dying to know how the rest of the story will play out. If you like the dark-side of erotica and are looking for something new to sink your teeth into, then this will be right up your alley. I was captivated from the very beginning and I am confident you will be too!

My Body-His is an erotic romp into the BDSM lifestyle from a newbie's aspect. Jane Stiles is a successful business woman, however her personal life is lacking. She is bored and lonely and is beginning to think that she will never meet anyone to share her life with. Then her friend with benefits, Scott invites her to go to a party with him. She goes but feels very uncomfortable to find that she is at a “sex” party and that Scott has left her and is no where to be found. Jane goes in search of a phone in the house to call from since her cell phone has no coverage and meets a sexy stranger named Luke. Her interaction with Luke is disturbing but very erotic and fulfilling as well. Needless to say, Jane is left flustered. Luke sets his sights on Jane and begins to make demands of her. At first Jane is at a loss as to why she continues to care what he thinks or follow his demands, but he excites her like no other and makes her feel alive like never before and she is hooked. Luke is an artist/photographer who has made his money by photographing BDSM women in various poses. Jane is introduced into Luke's lifestyle and given the ultimatum that he knows what she needs, will never hurt her (unless she needs it ire. “punishment”) and that in order to have a relationship with him there would be several rules she would have to follow. She is told that at any time all she has to do is use the safe phrase, “Get lost creep” and leave, but otherwise is expected to meet every demand he places on her. After only a week of being with Luke she contemplates moving in with him. Things are moving so fast between her and Luke, it begins to make her have doubts, but she craves his attention, his touch and his approval. Luke continues to demand of her and continues to submerse Jane in the BDSM lifestyle. The only problem is that Jane is changing her entire life for a man she barely knows, is she loosing her mind, her self-identity or is this a change that she can embrace and emerge victorious? A lot of critical reviews have been written stating that this book misrepresents the BDSM lifestyle, but I think if those same critics would read the note to the reader that the author has placed in the second book in the series they would realize that Ms. Bennett did not intend to have the reader believe that the relationship between the main characters was “therapeutic or healthy.” I don't want to fill this review with spoilers, however if you read the book I think most people will realize that the author does not state that she thinks the relationship is either healthy or unhealthy, she is simply telling a story. There are several factors that can either make or break a relationship. BDSM is a lifestyle choice, not necessarily the only aspect of the relationship between Luke and Jane that can come under criticism. I ultimately feel that this is a book about a woman who has not discovered who she is or what she wants out of life and Luke and the BDSM lifestyle just gives her one avenue to explore who she could be and what she desires out of life. Luke helps her to discover more about herself by pushing her limits with the BDSM lifestyle. This book is a very erotic, sexy romp that is very easy to read and a very quick read also. I personally LOVED it, as others have as well since I also have seen many 5 star reviews. If you can keep an open mind to the BDSM lifestyle, enjoy erotica and want a steamy read, then you will enjoy this book! I give it 5/5 stars! Enjoy!
A fascinating psychological study in domination and submission. Jane's bold choice to relinquish control to Luke leads to self-discovery as she is taken to her limits and beyond. This is a very intense story and I'll warn you now- you won't be able to put it down. It has the kind of depth that comes from being honest and uncensored. I recommend it!
I need to get this out. I HATE LUKE. I have many feelings about this book - but I can bottom line it with a few things. The writing in this is really excellent. It was an exceptionally emotional book for me because I disliked both characters (most especially the asshole Dom) immensely and still gave it a 4.5 star rating because I had such severe emotional reactions to it. If you read my reviews you know I am a masochist but tend to stay away from consensual D/s where there is humiliation or really unequal power relationships. By that I don't mean equal = two Doms but = meaning that the sub has power in the relationship. Here the thing that disturbed me the most was that if she used her safe word the relationship was over. When I first read that I had to push to continue reading because that was pretty much it for me.
Bookie's review is really great - but I couldn't even come to have one bit of liking for Luke even with the orgasms -- to me it had too much of a flavor of an abuser hitting you and bringing flowers to "make up". When Jane went to the adult toy store I was so hoping she would get a good rabbit vibe - because you can make that thing give you phenomenal orgasms if you know what you are doing. I think she likes elements of control - but the book never takes you to the place that says she wants to be a full time slave. Cleverly he only owns her body - but once he owns it he uses it to control everything else. This is not a book about a bedroom sub.
The final scene is their wedding and, after that, thankfully it was over. I feel tortured completely and kind of icky - because he was just so. so. so. very. creepy. and. scary.
For fans of well written extreme D/s - not in the pain level but in the exercise of power which is unbalanced. It reminded me quite a bit of Unfair Advantage (to be fair I hated that Dom as well) although this one pushed more limits IMHO because the sub was always questioning what she wanted and why she wanted it. The last Dom I hated this much was Jonathon from Power Play: Resistance and you'll notice that book also got a great rating.
Edited: This is the first of a trilogy - so it may be Jane will appear in a future book and get her act together but the blurb I read in the back of the book did not seem like it was going to be about Jane at all. I've thought a lot about this book since I read it, and I dreamed about it last night so I stand by my rating due to the really superb writing. I mean I don't like Gretchen from Heartsick either but I liked the book. What separates this, for me, from something like Kitty Thomas is that Kitty's books are almost always Non-Con -- and somehow that frees me to enjoy things on a whole different level. I just cannot wrap my mind around someone who would willingly chose this type of relationship where everything is all one sided. Not quite a mind fuck - and I'm still not sure what I was supposed to get out of this one exactly - I'm not sure I ended up in the place I was supposed to be. I didn't like where I was - maybe I missed the point.
First of all this book is unlike any I have ever read!! Here I thought I knew about the BDSM lifestyle through the books I previously read but they paled in comparison to this book!! I felt like all those other books were of the Vanilla variety after reading this story. I could relate to the character Jane in some ways and in others she had me wanting to scream and cry for her and with her. Just how far are you willing to go for the man you think you love? Find out what Jane is capable of doing or agreeing to for a chance at love with Luke!!
This is an awesome BDSM book!!!!!, My Body-His (My Body Trilogy Book 1) This book is so incredible!. The BDSM sex is so awesome. The characters are amazing. You will want to hate Luke but end up loving him lol. With Jane well she is spunky yet gullible. The story line is so compelling. I wanted to stay up all night long lol. It is one of those books you never want to put down :) . Blakely Bennett is an astonishing writer. This book is an awesome 5-star BDSM
I LOVED the book but I am not a fan of Luke's. He is a ass to Jane. It's Luke's way or no way, which is wrong in so many way but I just couldn't put the book now. Screaming at the book saying don't do it Jane and she did it. I have never read a BDSM book were the Dom is so controlling.
I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. I am not into bondage and stuff at all... so I was a little hesitant... I plugged thru it (no pun intended.. and if you read the book, you will get that joke)... I was AMAZED at the author's ability to put thought, sex, desire, passion, feelings, power, control, etc.. all together harmoniously. Toward the end, I really felt close to the character in ways that surprised me. Reading what she felt, what she went thru, made me think of my life in a different light even tho I am nothing like her... or am I really that different? My point is, this book is very thought provoking as well as HOT!
Absolutely phenomenally written. There was a beautiful flow. Thank you Blakely for magnificent scenes that enticed the emotions, from heightened sexual awareness to pure anger. I went from being wet, to hatred of Luke, to amazement of Jane's stupidity within her womanhood, to wanting more.It was an amazing journey and I look forward to the next, in the trilogy. THANK YOU!
The title of the book is catchy and so is the picture on the cover. I totally recommend this novel if you are looking for a new experience. This book takes you into the different world of dominance and submission, the darker and dysfunctional side. I thoroughly enjoyed each and every erotic and romantic scene the book has to offer. Buy it and you will not be disappointed. The book shows how Jane struggles between her brain and heart, and how her life gets turned around. She knows she is living away from her best interests but cannot help herself to get out of it.
I also like how the author characterized Luke, the main male character. It makes me feel as if there is someone really like that out there. I like the way he swept up Jane’s heart. I am totally amused by his confidence. I am excited to know how Jane is going to get out from under the spell she is in. Needless to say, I am excited for the next edition in the trilogy.
Thanks Blakely Bennett for bringing this wonderful novel out and I would totally like to see more novels from you.
Not sure how this works as I've never written a review before, so here goes. I hope I don't give any spoilers that might ruin it for other readers? I gave My Body His 5 stars. I loved this book/ trilogy. I've read many BDSM books as they are my favourite genre. This however is much darker than others I've read. Being the first book in the trilogy I found it really hard to get through. I hated Luke right from the beginning but something about Blakely's writing compelled me to continue. Many times through the book I just wanted to slap some sense into Jane. This was her first experience to this lifestyle so she had no concept of it to know what was expected of her. She fell hard and fast for Luke and like many who fall in love with the wrong person for them, she took everything he did to her even though she questioned her own sanity. It was quite difficult for me to read as I'm very squeamish and don't get the extreme pain and humiliation involved. Ultimately she realised deep down it was not what she wanted from a relationship. Luke is an extremely arrogant, self-centred, cruel, sadistic man, who made me cringe with what he expected from her. He abused Jane's trust in him, a trust that he demanded from her but did not give her in return. It made me so angry and frustrated most of the time. I could not understand why she would let this happen to herself. Where was her self respect? But this is a story about Jane's personal journey of discovery about herself and her needs. From her compete surrender to Luke, to the realisation that in the end however much she loved him she knew deep down it was not what she wanted. It ended in a real cliffhanger. Will she stay with Luke? I hoped that by the end of Jane's story she truly managed to find her balance of what she needed from a lover/ relationship. This book was a real roller-coaster of emotions for me, and that for me is why I read. I love getting so lost in a story that I find myself getting angry and shouting at the characters. Upset and emotional that I'm crying buckets. Or hot'n'horny at the steamy scenes. This story had it all for me. Thank you Blakely Bennett.
Good Morning Lovelies Mistress Tami here and here is my review on The lovely Blakely Bennetts My body His. I was Given this book to review and I must say that i have read A LOT about the lifestyle and the good and bad of it all. That being said This Book is NOT 50 shades nor does it claim to be. Blakely takes you on a roller coaster ride and the emotions that i felt while reading this totally took me off balance. Jane live her life to the "norm" and she is bored. Totally get it and understand it. She is missing something but even she does not know what it is until she meets Luke. Luke never once candy coated his intentions about the relationship or who would be in chanrge of its entirety. Jane falls Hard For Luke and even she has a hard time understanding what her heart and body feels in his presence. Jane struggles within herself throughout the entire book yet something she may or may noy truly understand makes her stay and see where it takes her.As i said above this os not a candy coating of the life style nor is it the exacpt perfect way of it either. Luke lives the lifestyle the way he intends and there is no straying from that. I again say read this and keep your mind open and look deeper within Jane to understand that this is a journey for her Good or bad this is her journey and i can not wait to follow her in the next book...
I plowed through all three Fifty Shades of Gray before reading My Body-His, just because someone told me to. I was glad I did, because the differences are Striking! They do have BDSM in common, but that's about all I can say for their similarities. Unlike Fifty, which is so predictable and repetitive that I found myself skimming by the third book, My Body-His has strong, well-developed characters and a constantly moving plot that is as surprising and arresting as it is HOT! Although I am not into that scene myself, the descriptions were stunning. Jane's conflict between her desire to submit and her desire to retain her own identity is vividly realistic. I can't wait for the next book!
I was hooked from the first page! I would have read the entire book in one day but I had to go to work the next day. I am looking forward to the next two books to learn more about Luke and Jane.
When I wrote my review for Consequences I compared it to Fifty Shades of Grey. But the fact was that the book that came in a close second was Comfort Food. Consequences was Comfort Food but instead of isolating Claire from the rest of the world the way Emily was, Anthony convinced the outside world that Claire wanted to be there.
This takes it to the next step. Instead of kidnapping Jane, Luke skips that step and convinces her that she wants to be there. They still end up in the same place - with her convinced that she wants to give him total control and the outside world believing they are in a normal, loving relationship - but this is the most insidious yet.
Now, of course, the question that should come to mind is - why do I care? I don't object to consensual total power exchange stories automatically. So why does it bother me that Jane submits to Luke?
The Nudity Rule - Molly in Club Mephisto and Dana in Safewords Davenport and Chiffon - pretty much naked all the time at home. But not in front of the outside world. You have to draw the line somewhere and that is where I draw it. The movers scene was weird. The delivery guy scene was cruel. The wedding - it was terrible when it was just her friends and family. And then you find out that Luke had invited 45 of his "business associates" to the wedding - I almost stopped reading.
The Website - He puts naked photos of her online without her having any idea. That was wrong on so many levels. She should have left him, hired a good attorney, and taken him to the cleaners. And along the way, find all the other women in the photos.
The Lack of Contact - Every time he goes away he became totally incommunicado. That should have been a huge red flag.
I came away feeling like I knew very little about Luke and what I did know I couldn't stand.
I really had a problem with how Jane kept getting aroused during the punishments. There should be a line between play and punishment and this kept blurring it in a way I find way disturbing. There is a difference between BDSM and Abuse but it was difficult to see where it lay in this at times - which just makes it Abuse to me. There was also the fact that except in some random instance where he smiled at her she was always unhappy.
So the Rating - It was actually very well written. No major editing issues at all and I thought the story flowed pretty well. I made myself a rule that if no innocent person dies or is murdered in a story, I wouldn't give it a 1. I could give this a 3 but I am afraid it just pushed me too far.
The second book is coming out soon - I will read it eventually to see where this goes - but I can't say I am looking forward to it right now.
This is a hard one to write a review for.... MY BODY-HIS is a book that's been sitting on my kindle for a while. I won it as a prize last year, and heard rave reviews from a lot of my GR friends, but for some reason, I kept putting off reading it. Well, I've now read it and I find myself in a dilemma because this one is so hard to rate and review.
It's hard to rate and review this one because technically, the book was excellent. Great writing, great character development, great world building, and all that stuff. That really kept me connected to the book when there many times that I wanted to stop reading. I can not fault this writers ability to write a book.
**I have to add a disclaimer that the author puts at the bottom of her description box. She says that this is not a romance, it's a erotic suspense novel. I'm glad that's there. I don't know if it was always there, but I'm glad it's there now. I actually think that this should be the first sentence of the description, but I digress.**
But, this is where the hard part comes in. I was physically ill from this book. My stomach was in knots as I read this train wreck of a relationship that was supposed to be a BDSM Dom/sub relationship. IT WAS NOT. I repeat, IT WAS NOT a BDSM Dom/sub relationship. At least, not in the way that any reputable practitioner goes about handling the relationship.
Anyone a part of the lifestyle, and really part of the lifestyle, will say to you SAFE.SANE.CONSENSUAL. They will ram it down your throats. They will warn you of predators who will take advantage of unsuspecting, naive newbies who don't know what to look out for. And I swear, I think that they had Luke in mind when they were talking about this.
BDSM is about communication. And that's where this story utterly failed for me. Luke brought Jane into this relationship without an ability to get the whole story. And how can you consent when you don't have all the information. And, he was such an ass when she asked any questions. UGH, he drove me absolutely nuts when he shot her down for asking him ANYTHING at all.
And Jane, man, she was so weak. So afraid to lose out on her last chance of love. She couldn't see that Luke was nothing but a glorified abuser. Because, honestly that what he was.
So, as I finish reading this, I'm thinking to myself, "how do I rate/review this?". The story definitely drew me in, but the BDSM aspects threw me for a loop. Then I thought, maybe this is what the author intended. Maybe she wanted us to see how horrible this relationship was. Maybe there something more in store for Jane. This is a trilogy after all.
When it's all said and done, I have NO idea what to do or how to rate MY BODY-HIS. I think from the writing and the technical aspects, it's 5 star. But the emotional part of it, I'd give a 1.5 star for how turned off I was. But then, don't I need to give it a higher rating because it did draw such strong reaction out of me? That's got to be saying something, right?
But then here is the rub, remember that disclaimer that I mentioned the author gave. I really believe that because she did that, she deserves the benefit of the doubt that she knew what she was doing so I'm giving this 4 STARS because of the huge emotion that the author was able to draw out of me, and the amazing ability she has a writer.
I will be continuing with this trilogy because I've been told that I'll be happy with the way it progresses. So, we'll see how I feel after book 2.
This book was very hard to get into in the beginning because it was making me very uncomfortable. My friend who read it before me, encouraged me to continue, and boy am I glad I did. I wanted to scream and yell at Jane, and I couldn't believe what she was doing. But once I stopped and thought about it, I knew there are women who go through this and for all I know, it could have been even me - you just never know. I see lots of people have criticized about BDSM portion of the book. I do not live in that life style, my knowledge of it comes from the books, but if you think that there are no people who do it the wrong way, you are very naive. Very well written books and I highly recommend this trilogy.
This book will always be very special to me since it was my first published. I remember reading my very first review by BookieNookie and I got very scared. She REALLY felt it! Then I realized that it was a good thing. If I could do anything differently with this novel it would be to make it even more clear (I thought it was clear enough) that this story is about a dysfunctional relationship and not a romance. Well you live and learn and I learned so much in the process of writing the trilogy.
I personally fell in love with all the characters and the ride they took me on with their story. I still miss you Jane.
I saw this book and just hd to read it and im glad I did. This book is Not for everyone! it can be a little dark for certain ppl but I really enjoyed it. can somewhat relate to this story as well so it helped me understand alot more. Just know if you dont like BDSM and Punishment then this book is not for you lol.. I cant wait for the next book to come out and see what happens.
My body-His is spellbinding. The story line and characters pull real emotions from you. Watching Jane come out of her shell is amazing. I can't decide if I love Luke or hate him, or both. The power some people can hold over others is incredible and the power some people relinquish is just as incredible. I can't wait to read the next book to see where this power play goes.
I hate Luke always will and I hope Jane leave his F-up a** soon. I just can't believe she gave him total control over her life. I still don't think Luke really give two sh*t about Jane. The problem is Jane have some serious daddy issues. On to the next book:-)
This book had my head all messed up. I really liked it in the beginning but Jane made me so mad towards the end to the point I don't like her anymore. She never thought and just allowed too much to happen. She needs to be stronger in my opinion.
Read My Body his through a recommendation from a friend. I dont know much at all about the stuff in the book but was a lot of fun learning about it . The characters pulled you into their world and kept you there wanting more . Totally hot read loved it! Now reading book 2 :-)
