I really wanted to like this one a lot more than I did. Frankly, Aiden is a whiny POS and Erika was so insecure that she would go back and beg a louse rather than take a chance and find a real relationship that had a little more going for it than the guy is a good f**k.

The premise of the story is that Erika and Aiden were madly in love and had a passionate relationship until she walks in on him screwing another woman. She leaves the country and makes it big as a pop star. Five years on, Erika needs a rest and Aiden shows up with proof that her Svengali manager is cheating her. He helps her sort it out and they rekindle an affair. Apparently Aiden's screwing around was because he was afraid of love not that he is a serial adulterer or incapable of understanding love and fidelity.

Erika insists she can't get over him and that bothers me a lot, what is there to get over other than the fact that Aiden is good in bed? Erika got herself into a bad situation with her manager embezzling money, but srsly, if she is that gullible about life, how are we supposed to believe that Aiden is serious about her or that her judgement is any better this time around? Granted he helps her out, but is that just to be able to say that he has a really famous woman jumping at his whim? It doesn't seem to matter to him what she wants, he just wants to be able to smex her and brag about it. I don't believe he really cares about her as a person at all and when she goes and pleads with him for a second chance, he rejects her in favor of the woman he is currently banging only to come back later and say he did not mean it.

So for me, Aiden is just a more refined version of Erika's sleazy manager and Erika is too naive and stupid to realize it. Aiden is the worst kind of manipulative user. He wants to have what he considers the best woman as a possession and doesn't give a damn what the woman he possesses thinks about it. Plus, if she doesn't go along with what he considers correct and jump when he commands then she is easily replaced and who cares about the damage he does.

It is even better for a narcissist egotist like him when the woman in question gets herself together and comes back to explore a further relationship. He can berate her for disloyalty, build up his ego by kicking her out and then go back to magnanimously "forgive" her a few hours later once he is certain he has her emotionally subject to his control.

I wanted to like this book, but Aiden's asshattedness knows no bounds, his sincere lack of apology for the way he was and continued to be, and his outrage over what I though was a very normal response by Erika to very bad situation, makes him a total zero as a Hero and I really wanted Erika to just let him go as good for a shag but not relationship material.

IMO there are H's who are gold and there are H's who are HFN material and Aiden was definitely of the latter. Shag him and leave him Erika, you are too good for him and he was just a loser with control issues. Aiden doesn't believe in real love or fidelity and it is only a matter of time before Erika walks into another scene with Aiden getting it off with someone else and explaining that it doesn't really mean anything, he was only scared (or whatever).

Erika deserved better, we as readers deserved better and while the sex is hot, the relationship needed work and really needed more empathy and sincerity on Aiden's part to make it a believable HEA.

Five years before, Erika and Aiden were madly in love and had a passionate relationship until she walks in on him screwing another woman.

Present:

Wow!!
If my daughter hadn't been teething and waking in the night causing me to be tired, I'd of read this in no time!! I was hooked from the very beginning but it got that much better when Aidan appeared in the picture ;)

I'd been quite annoyed lately at books not holding my interest so this came at a great time! The characters are described brilliantly and all of them are very in depth, the romance was also very in depth too, none of the usual flimsy crap based on a week of checking each other out then confessing their undying love for one another!! The romance really hit home for me, I once was in a similar situation (just without the fame & fortune!) So I was pleased with the ending :D

Definate 5 stars and highly recommended! Will be suggesting this book to a few of my friends.
Now to start 'Lovers In Law'...

Avis Exley writes books that are HOT HOT HOT!!!!! They move along at a good pace and have great characters and dialect. There's just enough angst and mystery to keep you hanging, but not too much where you feel like slapping the characters for having no common sense! Looking forward to hopefully reading MUCH more from Ms. Exley!!!

I really liked this book. But I must say Avis I liked Lovers in Law better than this one. But they both were great. You are an amazing author and I am ready for another book from you. :)

I was reminded of this book in a FB group. I realized that I read it way before I started keeping track on Goodreads. Anyway, this is the one where the h is a famous British singer and the H is a British businessman…stunningly gorgeous, of course. They have a 6 month thing when she’s still a nobody. Then he gets drunk and ya know w/ one night stand. She catches them. Moves to U.S. Hits it big. Comes back 5 years later and they try again. Side plot of her manager and theft. She thinks she’s really good at seeing “feelings” in his eyes 👀 lol. Bad verbal communication, naturally. She calls him a tart, which made me chuckle. HEA.

I loved this book. I know some people had issues with Aiden claiming he was controlling, having read the book, I'm not sure what they're talking about. I found Aiden to be very attentive, albeit an idiot at times, completely in love with our Heroine, and selfless enough to give her the space she needed even if it completely broke his heart.

I had more issues with Erika an her naivety. Who the fuck signs away their life on a whim? She was 23, not 13, so there really was no excuse other than being an idiot at the time. Once the contract was signed, I can see how the "manager" would take over her life, push her limits, and swindle her for all her money. There are managers like that out there, I could name a few.

Other than the obvious issues with Erika and her signing her soul over to the devil, I loved the book. It was believable with the heartbreak, personal issues, and wanting to find out who you are away from the love of your life. Definitely worth a read.
