Love hits you when you least expect it, grabs you, sucks you in whole, and twists you around until you could hardly breathe. Love hurts like a sucker punch, that’s both glorious and beautiful. Falling for Summer was like that for me, every time. – Nat Donovan
The Donovan Brothers
Two brothers as gorgeous as they are dangerous.
Nat Donovan, the older more responsible brother with the passion of a starving man. Knows what he wants, but knows he can’t have it without giving up everything.
Drew Donovan, the really bad boy, the black sheep, the one who has a devil-may-care attitude, wants what he wants, but knows he would have to go through the ones he loves to have it.
Nat and Drew Donovan has known Summer Jones since they were kids. She had always been the girl next door who was best friends with their little sister Rachel and was cool enough to play with the guys. Now Summer is all grown up, gorgeous, and scorchingly sexy without even knowing it. Responsible older brother Nat, who had always tried to keep their friendship platonic, now can’t stop thinking of her and wanting more. Carefree Drew, who had always had a crush on Summer, but knew Summer’s heart was already taken, can only fall further for her. But no one had anticipated what would happen between the time the Donovan brothers fell for her and now. No one knew how hard they would fall.

As much as I enjoyed this book, Summer started irritating me when she was bouncing between Nat, Drew & Astor like a ping pong ball! I am #TeamDrew all the way & can't wait to read the next installment!! :):)
I really loved Loving Summer and was excited to be able to read more about the Donovan brothers in Falling for Summer. Nat, Drew, and their sister Rachel have known Summer since they were kids, spending summers together, and after a 3-year hiatus, had resumed that tradition in the first book in the series. What they didn't expect was to see Summer so grown up and so beautiful. Both of the guys had also grown up a lot, especially hot bad boy Drew. Drew has had a crush on Summer since he was a kid, but now he is quite the lady's man, so he has had to work extra hard to prove his sincerity in how he feels about Summer. Summer on the other hand, has had a crush on Nat since she was little, which up until now, he has pretty much shut down, because of family issues and responsibilities, though he really loves Summer, just like his brother Drew does. Talk about complicated.......let's just say that is an understatement as things heat up between Summer and the Donovan brothers.
Lets talk about the characters. I really liked Summer. She's a sweetheart and I felt bad for her because of her circumstances. She has lost her aunt, who has pretty much been her rock. She has had a rocky relationship with her movie star boyfriend. She just turned 18, though she has been an emancipated minor before that point, not having a really close relationship with her mom. While she was sweet and innocent in Loving Summer, in Falling for Summer, she gets a little spicier and sexier, as do her relationships. The Donovan brothers, well, you couldn't as for two hotter guys, though I am totally team Drew, and I was actually a little disappointed in Nat in this book. Yes, he is sexy and finally gives in to his desires and feelings for Summer, but is he really willing to commit? Has he thought about what this will do to his brother Drew, who he knows loves Summer? Drew, on the other hand, has and is doing everything he can to prove his love and feelings towards Summer. While I do like Summer, I didn't like the way she jumped between guys in this book. First is was her movie star boyfriend, she was making out with Drew and had feelings for him, and then when Nat makes a move, she makes out with him to. I know she's confused, but this bouncing between brothers is causing problems and when one of them really gets hurt, Summer has to face her feelings, but is it too late to win back the brother she loves?
As far as the story, while I did like Falling for Summer, I didn't like it nearly as much as I did the first book in the series. It was much sexier, which I liked a lot, and it did have a strong focus on anti-bullying, which was really good. The story itself felt a little rushed, there were some minor grammatical errors, which are not usually seen in Gow's books, and it just didn't live up to the standards I usually see it Kailin Gow's writing. That said, I will still continue reading the series. I love the new adult contemporary romances that are coming out, and I will be looking forward to see what happens with the Donovan brothers in the next book in the series.
I enjoy reading books by Kailin Gow. It is my weakness.
Falling for Summer has many great qualities. 1) It updates the reader on what happens with everyone after book 1. Aunt Sookie died and everyone deals with it differently. Nat and Drew have fallen for Summer. They have feelings for her and it is quite intense. Plus there is still the movie actor who adores Summer. 2) Romance isn't the only thing that drives this story. There is the issue of Bullying that Kailin handles in a very appropriate way. It is a big topic that plagues our society. Summer is being bullyed after Aunt Sookie dies. Summer has inherited the acting studio which is being targeted by haters. Her relationship with her actor boyfriend leaves his fans hating on Summer. I like the way Nat steps up and does what he can to stop the bullying. It is a process but it is great to see that Summer doesn't have to be a victim she can be a victor against the bullies. 3) I love Nat. There, I said it. He is the one I want Summer to be with. I just don't know if he will man up and go get her. He is torn between family loyalties, his brother loves Summer, college is in San Francisco, he works for his dad's company. He pines for Summer but what does he do about it? He takes one step forward and two steps back. Very frustrating Nat, very frustrating. 4) Summer is different from book 1. She has had to grow up fast now that she is alone. She's taking control of her life but she is torn between all the affections coming her way from these 3 guys that love her. She loves them all but which one does she love the most? She doesn't even know. She has a lot on her plate to deal with. She is strong and I would like to see her stand on her own for awhile without the romantic advances.
Kailin writes great stories. That is a given. No matter is she is writing fantasy or reality. It is all good. This is definitely worth reading. If you have read the first book then you have probably taken the time to read this already. If you haven't read book 1 it is alright. This book gives enough information that the reader is not lost. Give it a try you just might find that you too are Falling for Summer.
This is a continuation of Loving Summer. This story picks up shortly after the summer where the lives of Summer, Rachel, Nat and Drew distracting change. There are more changes coming for this circle of 4. Someone is threatening Summer, but does it have to do with her relationship with Astor or something more personal??
I liked this one better than the first and I'm ready for 3 now....I have never read a book that I clearly do not have a guy I want the character with. I have no clue all 3 guys are great and I love Summer for trying to figure that all out.
I haven’t read the 1st book since 2013 and my review said I really enjoyed it. I started reading this one and the prologue had me reading in circles. I read the next couple chapters and could not remember the characters at all, so I decided to go back and read the 1st book. I did not enjoy it as much as I did the 1st time, but I finished the whole thing and moved back on to this story.
Once again like I said in the last book review. It really needs an editor. Too many conflicting things that made my head spin. The men are all insane and are obsessed with summer and summer just seems to be ok with doing what she’s doing. I have the 3rd book but I think I’m done with this series.
A Classic Summer Read! This series was my ADDICTION when it first came out. Now I am re-reading and binging on the entire series and its many spin-offs.
I am totally falling back in love with this series and all its beloved characters. One of my all time favorites!
I loved the first book in this series Loving Summer and though Falling for Summer is about the same characters it's more from the view of the Donovan brothers. I liked getting more about the brothers and how they felt about everything. I did enjoy this book but not nearly as much as Loving Summer. The tension and heart break were all still there but some of what happened in this one drove me through the walls. However maybe this book will set the stage for things to settle out a little bit.
The loss of Aunt Sookie is still fresh though and now someone is attacking Summer and the acting school. Nat and Drew have known Summer since they were children. Both have cared for her in their own ways but now they are willing to show her and even fight for her. It's more than a want for both it's a need and brother seems to be willing to hurt brother just to grab her heart, and with things so rocky with Astor things are more than a little complicated. The question is will Summer see Drew for the boy that has always loved her, find safety in Nat or love the guy that respects her as much as he did he Aunt?
I'm going to take this moment to say I am still #TeamDrew all the way!! I love his guts. His love for Summer seems so true and he is willing to do anything for her. Though he has a reputation for being a player, Drew is determined to turn it all around. His visit with Summer has made him want to be someone better. Every part of me wants Summer to wake the heck up and see Drew for the good he could do for for her and the love he would wrap her in. Sure there is a lot of sexual tension there as well and it's obvious all of the wild things he would do to her but I'm sure it wouldn't be a one night thing for those two.
Nat did nothing to make me lik him anymore than I did before. In fact by the end Nat had all but enraged me several times. Summer has loved him like Drew loved her but he never once paid her the attention that she vied for. Now she's grown up and has looks to die for, he's noticing her. Not to mention that he claims he gave Drew all the time in he world to get her and now he's done waiting... Well hold up a moment if you know your brother loves her and said you would give him the chance and now he's trying you have decided other wise?! I will end my rant here because he's not a bad guy but when it comes to Summer he now seems to be blinded ans selfish.
If Summer does not stop the hopping from guy to guy soon I am going to scream. I love her and her beautiful heart but my dog her indecisive behaviour will be the end of me. The saving grace for her was that she at least made the decision to let go of Astor. Though she only did this because of the distance and not really seeing each other. Never mind the psycho fans that are attacking her and her Aunts acting school. Though Astor is a nice guy and if it came down to him or Nat I would choose Astor a million times over, I was happy to see him go as there was one less guy to fret over this way.
Despite all of my grumbling I finished this book much quicker than the first. This isn't to say I had my issues and that the flashing back and forth between guys didn't drive me nuts. It did. My hopes are now that Ms. Gow has set the stage for things to work out and settle down. I love the characters that she has created and the conflict that they have to deal with. Each character has their own issues but they each have such strengths and big hearts under it all.
I really, really loved the first book in the series, Loving Summer. Falling for Summer takes place a few months after Loving Summer, but it is the first book in a spin off/companion series which focuses more on the Donovan Brothers. I'm not sure what the timeline will be of these two series, but I thought Falling for Summer worked great as a sequel to the first book. Even though this is the first book in the "Loving Summer: Donovan brothers" series, I would still read Loving Summer before reading Falling for Summer.
There were some things that I really liked about Falling for Summer and there were a few issues that I had with the book. Let's talk about the things that I liked first. I totally fell in love with the characters from Loving Summer. Summer is such a strong person and even though both of the Donovan Brothers are great, I am more partial to Drew. In this book, Summer's emotions are all over the place. I felt so bad for the girl. She is basically all alone, just turned 18 and having to handle a ton of stuff. All while she is still grieving from the loss of her aunt. I still love summer, she is growing up and trying to find out who she is. She kind of gets her skank on in Falling for Summer. (there are three guys in this book) I wasn't turned off to her by her actions though, I just wanted all the craziness around her to settle down so she could start her happily ever after. I am rooting for Drew. Another thing I really liked about this book was the strong anti-bullying message it portrayed.
Falling for Summer is a spicier version of Loving Summer and I loved every second of that aspect of the book. I didn't particularly like how quickly Summer flip flopped between guys, but like I said she was dealing with a lot so she was emotional and very vulnerable for most of the story. The writing also didn't seem as good as it did in the first book. It seemed more awkward and there were some grammar issues. Nothing too major, but I did notice it in the first half of the book. (I did not have an ARC version of this book) Then I kind of got swept up in the story and I wasn't looking as closely at grammar.
I enjoyed Falling for Summer because I loved the characters so much from Loving Summer, but overall I liked the first book, Loving Summer more than this one. I did enjoy Falling for Summer, and I do want to continue the series. I think fans of edgy new adult contemporaries will enjoy the Loving Summer and Donovan Brother series.
I absolutely adore this series!! Kailin really knows how to write great love stories!!
Summer has taken on alot with the Academy since her Aunt passed away. Not only that, she has to deal with that backlash of being the girlfriend of an up and coming Hollywood star, Astor.
Summer is torn between Astor and the Donovan brothers - Nat and Drew. She has such strong feelings towards all of them, but all of them different. Things with her and Astor are becoming tough since he is always away filming. Nat has denied his feelings towards Summer this whole time and is now hoping to win her feelings back. However, he knows that right now he can't be there for her with everything else going on in his life. Drew has always loved Summer and has never hid his feelings from Summer, but he knew that Summer always crushes on Nat. Now that Drew will be back in Malibu and attending the same college as Summer, will he be able to win her affections and finally get her??
All three men want nothing but for Summer to feel safe after she starts receiving mean and threatening letters. Then the academy is vandalized and almost burned down. Astor, Nat and Drew all have their own plans to keep her safe and away from the spot light.
Kailin does a great job of writing this book from 3 different POV's. It's nice seeing how Summer, Nat and Drew perceive the different scenarios and how the react to them. It's not easy writing from 3 different POV's and keep the story moving and entertaining. Kailin does a fantastic job and makes you feel for each of them.
I am really thrilled that the next book will be out very soon!!! I am not sure I can wait too long to see what happens with this love square! :)
I am absolutely thrilled that there will be a Donovan series now too. These two boys are just to die for!! They both have a great qualities about them and are both very attractive. I know that this series will be very entertaining!
I absolutely love everything kailin gow writes especially this series!! loving summer was amazing and for her to make a book just from the Donovan brothers point of view with a little from summer is AMAZING!! I am a total drew fan he is my favorite I can only hope summer didn't screw everything up with her obsession over nat even though I love him too but for different reasons!! he is the knight in shinning armor. but he can never truly be there for summer the way she needs that's why I love drew so much he adapts himself to be the man worthy for summer!! but has she pushed him too far this time?? I think so and with nat and the way his brain works sabotaging drew before he gets the chance to show everyone what he is made of truly pisses me off!! nats obsession with his family's "demon's " thinking they will turn out like their mother is dangerous!!! to the point he will most likely screw up every ones happiness in the process!! kailin gow you sure know how to write amazing books!!!!
This is more from the Boys point of view. It goes over some of what happen in the first book but pretty much starts from the ending of book one. It shows the struggles that Drew and Nat have over their feelings for Summer and knowing that both brothers love her. The pain of losing Aunt Sookie has hit them all - including Astor. Will his relationship with Summer last or is the long distance pulling them apart? Will Drew or Nat get a chance at love with Summer?
I didn't like some parts of the book as much - it didn't flow as good at the first of it then towards the middle it picked up (Summer's POV) and I cried at several scenes. Overall a good read. Can't wait to read the next one.
It was an okay book. I felt like I was skimming cause honestly some times it was boring and dragged out. This book needs some more details and characterization. Three guys are obsessed with one girl cause she is hot and nice. It just seems kind of stupid. Yeah the brothers had some history with her, but some stuff doesn't add up. Nate completely ignored Summer, all these years and now he says he is secretly in love with her. Drew and Rachel could see how Summer looked at him, yet he still ignored her. The love by three guys is a stretch. I enjoy the plot of the book, but sometimes I get irritated by the sappy romance of it all and how Summer can never make up her mind.
I really enjoyed this book. I find that it was a little more suspenseful than "Loving Summer" but still had enough love and heartbreak. Although he wasn't in this book as much as Nat, and as much as I though I wouldn't pick Drew, I really think I'm on the poor guys team. He's really proving himself. I always was team Nat. He's gorgeous and kind hearted but he's to involved with worry about what could go wrong instead of just following his heart and making it work. He's hurting people when he thinks he's protecting them. February can't come soon enough!!!!
I have the same complaint about this book as I did for the first one... I feel like I don't get a whole book when I'm done reading... There's no beginning, middle, and ending. No resolution to any of the storylines. I've read series before - even ones with cliffhangers that I've loved- but this is different. The ending if both books makes me think my kindle has malfunctioned and I'm prematurely stopping in the middle of the book. Yet I'm strangely compelled to read about these characters... I hope the next book takes me somewhere or I may have to give up soon...
I don't know what to say about this. It is obvious we aren't going to have an ending anytime soon. So I guess she is going to do this series like pulse, the damsel just can't freaking decide who she wants. But she still does everything physical with all excluding actual intercourse. What does that say about her? Hmmm. This one had me skimming pages, not good. Not better than the first. I just can't seem grasp this one.
I had high expectations for this book, based on the cover, but sadly, I was let down. I had no idea Summer was this bipolar. One minute, she was in love with Astor, the next she was breaking up with him for Drew, then saying to Nat that there was no one else but him, and that she would love only him. It was SO confusing.
2.5 stars. I really enjoyed Loving Summer, but I found myself just wanting this book to be over while I was reading it. I will still probably read the next books in these two series. I guess I enjoyed the first book enough to want to know how their story ends. I like the story of the two brothers and one girl they both love. I am hoping the next books will grab my attention more.
LOVED this book/series! Couldn't stop reading. I am anxiously waiting for the next book in the series. To be honest, I am team Drew. Nat had his chance and he blew it time and again. Though Drew was a bit immature at first, he seems to have really grown up. Ahhh is the next book out yet (I know, no). Put me out of my misery:)
Poor Astor! He seems like such a good guy to be in such a love . . . Triangle of sorts. Then I feel for Drew, is he going to take the crazy train? Nat, oh Nat, just make it work because obviously Summer wants you! I guess we have to wait for the next installment. Seems as though Summer will be spending time on her own with how things ended or will Drew change his mind??
Hot summer fun with the Donovan's. An interesting contemporary romance that also has stalking, bullying and drama. It shows that a family is not always Bound by blood ties. Well written characters, not sure which brother is more steamy, but leaning towards Nate.
Great book in the series. Cal and Summer were meant to be. But so were Drew and Summer. The problem is that drew and Cal are brothers. With the summer hotting up and both boys being in competition what will happen. What happens in Summer Stays in summer. And with Summers aunt acting weird what will occur and who will she chose. Great must read series.
TEAM NAT! Ugh if Summer goes for Drew, I will be highly upset. Anyways, this was a great book! But I don't know if I will be continuing the series due the results of the poll on theEDGEbooks.com, so far team Drew is winning. But we still have voting until 2015 so we'll see what happens!
I did like hearing this from more of the gentlemans' perspective, and holy crap, do things ever get hot and heavy and complicated with this crew! Whew! But it wasn't as good as Loving Summer. Thus: the 3 star rating.
Don't get me wrong, I love this book! It was just that i felt it did not have a strong storyline and it was very cheesy! Everything moves so fast between the MULTIPLE couples it just seemed so unrealistic!
I loved Loving Summer. However this one was more definitely graphic, had more grammatical errors, and less character development unless you consider a spicier more wishy-washy Summer an improvement. I enjoyed it but not as much as the first book. Still looking forward to the next book...
