The bloody war between the Vampire Tribunal and the defiant scathe of Penton, Alabama, rages on, forcing its residents and their bonded humans to retreat into the underground fortress of last resort: Omega.
There, Will Ludlam is charged with the care of Penton’s humans, though he longs to fight alongside his vampire brethren. He knows the risks: as the renegade son of the Tribunal’s vicious leader, Will’s capture could doom the resistance. Yet he is determined to prove his worth to his adopted scathe, to his vengeful father—and to former US Army officer Randa Thomas, his beautiful, reluctant partner.
Randa has little faith that a former member of the vampire elite has what it takes to fight a war. But as their enemies descend upon Omega, Will’s polished charm—and Randa’s guarded heart—finally give way to the warrior within.

Well, the smoke has cleared from the crazy ending in the last book and now the Pentonites are trying to figure out how to exist in the Omega. Things are moving along fine till Matthias decides to get a little aggressive.
I really enjoy both Randa and Will but I feel that they got cheated! Too much is happening with the ongoing story and it doesn't really allow them much time for their romance. Their time in the tunnel was great but it seemed more of a 'why not' instead of a 'yes, please!' Randa just went along with everything and I didn't feel the bond between the two of them as much as I did with the past two couples.
Will was amazing as always. I've always had a thing for him and it was great seeing him come into his own. I loved how he was freaking out about some of the things that were happening to him.
I enjoyed getting to know Randa better and I liked how she started feeling better about being a vampire. The "granny" panties were hilarious!
Like I mentioned, there is a ton of action so we get a lot of the past characters in the story. Everybody's trying to figure out how to make things work and how to get rid of Matthias. Best scene ever is where the rest of the gang thwarts Aiden's and Mirren's plan.
Now things between Cage and "someone else" was very interesting. I really liked all the exchanges between those two even if it only leads to a lot of heartbreak. Unfortunately, the publisher dropped the series but the good news is that SS hopes to do a wrap up novel on her own and write Cage's story. Yay!
Matthias and his gang of hoodlums cause a lot of problems but I think everything worked out rather well. I really enjoyed it when Will and his Dad were having their showdown!
There is a spin off called Storm Force. SS will be doing an installment series with four parts BUT...the good news is you only pay $1.99 total for all the installments. You can get more info on her website:
Book 3 of the Penton Legacy and it featured Will is the only living child of the antagonist Mathias Ludlam, and Matthias was still bent of bring both Will and Aiden to heel.
In this book, we got a glimpse into Will's childhood with Matthias. We learned that he was such a wise-ass to hide a life of pain and insecurities. While it was the thing that made him clash with his partner Randa Thomas, a former military officer, who came to Penton after being turned. Randa had only been a vampire for five years, but she didn’t enjoy this new way of life and it annoyed her that Will found jokes in just about everything. After sharing being caught in an attack on Omega by Matthias, Randa and Will shared a few childhood stories, they starting seeing each other in a new light. Their romance was much less intense than Mirren and Glori’s courtship. Randa and Will were quite tentative in my opinion, but it is also nice not to have insta-romance. It was like watching a flower blossom.
What made this book different was that this book focused more on plot than the romance, and the story advanced to a new stage. I am excited at the development of Omega Force, but I still uneasy with Matthias Ludlam alive. As long as he is alive, Penton residents will never be safe. Will's book was good but not as good as Mirren's book. But pretty darn close. Wil l's book was good but not as good as Mirren's book. But pretty darn close.
I didn’t know this author before this series, but I am going to be checking out her work from now on. I was supposed to read a book a month with this series, but obviously I kept going because I just had to keep reading. I am looking for the next book “Deliverance” with newest Lieutenant Cage Reynolds because this series hasn't had a love triangle yet...and so this should be good.
I enjoyed this maybe not as much as the last book as Will and Randa's love seems a bit more friendly than passionate.... but i loved how the story developed and the different obstacles the Penton/Omega residents had to overcome, Cage seems like a really interesting character also and cant wait for his story
I thought this was the final book in the trilogy but come to find out there's a fourth book and apparently there will be shape shifters as well as Omega Force. Hmmm things are changing up in Penton, Alabama. I loved Cage in this one and look forward to his story (eagle shifter and all).
I've loved Will since the beginning and was happy to get to his story. I knew during book two that Randa would be his soulmate and I liked how it played out. I was amazed at the things his father subjected him to and still can't believe how Matthias doesn't understand why Will hates him. Some people are just clueless. Well I certainly hope he gets what's coming to him in book four and I hope like hell Will is the one who gives it to him. Father or not, that man needs taking down.
A unique and interesting series that luckily isn't over yet.
This is the 3rd book of the Penton Legacy series and I’m loving it.
In the last book, Absolution, one of the beloved characters was killed. It was surprising because Melissa was such a big part of the series. She was sweet and was the unofficial welcome wagon for new residents of Penton and she never failed to lend a hand when needed. Matthias, who is Penton’s biggest enemy, had one of his minions break her neck right in front of everyone. In this book, we learn that she is alive and that Matthias had his minion carry her away and turn her into a vampire. There is a big discrepancy in the two books which really bothered me. It clearly stated in the last book that the minion broke Melissa’s neck with an “audible snap”, in which case she would have been dead and she couldn’t be turned but in this book, it was changed to her throat being cut and then the minion dragging her off to change her into a vampire. I went back and re-read that part just to be sure and her neck was definitely broken and not cut. I think it showed poor planning on the author’s part but I was glad she brought Melissa back…well, kind of…after reading the 4th book, I didn’t really like her that much.
This book was about William Ludlum, Matthias’ son who he wants back…not because he loves him but because Matthias believes William belongs to him and should be loyal to him just because he is his son. Matthias was never really a good father to Will. After Matthias was turned into a vampire, he decided to turn his entire family into vampires despite the low survival rate. Will’s sister and mother did not make it. Will was only 22 at the time. When Will wouldn’t bend to Matthias’ every evil wish, Matthias would have him beaten or worse. The last time he punished Will, he sent him with one of his lieutenants, Shelton, who Matthias knew was a sadist and liked young men. Shelton tortured and raped Will who then was returned to Matthias and acted like he had broken and changed to be pliant but ran away from Matthias and kept gone.
Now that Matthias knows where Will is, he has used it as an excuse to ruin the town of Penton and everyone in it. Penton is a town that Aidan Murphy, a master vampire, created in order to escape starvation from the Pandemic Vaccination that almost every human in the world received after a worldwide epidemic. The vaccine turned the vaccinated human’s blood into poison for vampires. Vampires are now starving and having a hard time finding unvaccinated humans to feed off of. The problem is that many vampires don’t just feed off a human, they kill them unnecessarily. Aidan Murphy believes humans should be treated fairly and not be treated as just food. He has found unvaccinated humans who have agreed to live in the town of Penton in exchange for a good life and letting a vampire feed off them. Most of the humans used to be drug addicts who Aidan and his right hand man, Mirren, helped to get off the drugs or they were homeless or had other severe problems. Penton is a chance to start over again. Will pledged his loyalty to Aidan and became part of his scathe, a group of vampires who are bonded and loyal to each other. Matthias has used the size of Aidan’s scathe to strike fear into the hearts of the Vampire Tribunal who believe Aidan plans to overthrow them.
When Matthias killed Melissa, he had taken over the town of Penton. While he was busy threatening the leaders, the rest of the town went into their evacuation plan called Omega. They snuck down into a tunnel which was located in the church with an elaborate door that looked like part of the flooring in the church. After a huge fight, all the other members were able to escape Matthias and enter Omega which had another entryway miles away. After you go into the tunnel in the church, there is a small area and then steel doors which would take break through. On the other end, there is a long tunnel leading to steel doors.
The leaders of Penton decide to use Cage Reynolds as a spy to infiltrate Matthias and his followers. While this book was mostly about Will Ludlum, it had a lot about Cage who recently joined the Penton scathe under orders from his leader, the UK Tribunal representative Edward Simmons, to learn about the town of Penton and to see if it would be a viable option for the UK vampires. Aidan Murphy knows about this but hasn’t let it be known to everyone else until now. The Penton leaders decide that since Matthias does not know Cage is with them that Cage should tell Matthias that he is there on Edward Simmons’ behalf to help him. As soon as Cage gets out from underground, he calls Edward and tells him of their plan. Edward is one of the few Tribunal leaders secretly backing Aidan and his scathe.
Matthias accepts Cage’s story but isn’t trustworthy of anyone so he doesn’t share any secrets with Cage. He gives Cage a room under the Penton Clinic where Cage discovers a locked door, picks the lock and finds Melissa Calvert tied to the bed, starving, afraid and a vampire. He ends up rescuing her which blows his cover and effectively blows Edward’s Simmons’ cover. Matthias has the backing of the leader of the Tribunal, Frank Greisser and since, in the last book, Mirren killed a Tribunal member to save his mate and Aidan turned his mate Krystal into a vampire to save her life which is against Tribunal law at the moment, the Tribunal has issued warrants for the Penton scathe members.
Meanwhile, a lot of humans are abandoning Omega, they just are too afraid or don’t want to live underground for an extended amount of time. Aidan and Mirren are the only master vampires which means they are the only ones who can wipe the human’s memories so they are spending a good amount of their time traveling at night to take the humans to nearby cities and drop them off. Will and his annoying but capable partner, Randa, who Aidan teamed him up with have to take charge of Omega while Aidan and Mirren are gone. Will keeps doing things he shouldn’t be capable of doing and thinks he may be turning into a master vampire.
Matthias starts stepping up his game. He starts using bloodhounds to try to find Omega and hired someone to poison the streams around Penton which started making the humans sick. He had tortured and lied to Melissa, saying he captured her husband Mark. Melissa gave in and told Matthias about the entrance to Omega under in the church. Melissa tells Aidan that she told Matthias so Aidan puts guards outside each steel door. While Will and Randa are guarding the outside entrance of the steel doors, they see the hidden entry hatch open. If anyone enters, they can only enter one or two at a time and they will be able to pick them off easily but Matthias is smarter than that. He throws in a grenade. Randa recognizes what it is just before it goes off and jumps on top of Will to save him. They aren’t dead but Will’s leg is mangled and they are buried. One wrong move and the whole thing might cave in on them. They take the time to get to know each other.
A weird thing is happening to Melissa and her husband Mark. Mark thought Melissa had died and was so inconsolable that Aidan had to keep him in a trance to keep him under control. Now that he knows Melissa is alive, Aidan takes him out of the trance but Melissa doesn’t seem to want anything to do with Mark. She told Aidan’s mate that she just doesn’t feel for him like she used to and thinks it is because she is a vampire now. She also is eyeing Cage like she has a crush on him and Cage seems to be looking back which ticks me off royally. I like Melissa and Mark together and I won’t accept a Cage and Melissa scenario even if the author kills off Mark.
It seems like the people of Penton are fighting a losing battle. There was some good news in the book but a lot of bad news went with it.
I have already read the last book, Allegiance. I usually do my review before reading another book but I was sick with some sort of flu and just couldn’t concentrate enough to do a review. I felt so icky that I couldn’t even read that much which means I’m really really sick.
I loved Will but, good grief, what a life he had when he was “turned.” His father, Matthias, and Shelton were two sick bastards; Shelton for what he did to Will and Mathias for allowing it. I have no idea how Will stayed sane and somewhat normal. Well, normal that is, until he caught Shelton alone in the woods. Ahh, good times for Shelton!
I did forget about Melissa being in the last book and being in this book and that she was being held prisoner by Matthias and that Cage saved her.
And, finally, Will and Randa stopped sniping at each other long enough to realize their feelings for one another.
The siege of Omega is amping up, Matthias poisoned the water supply they were hooking up to so all they have is bottled water, for drinking, cooking and bathing, so Will and Randa decided to go to her military father, who thinks she’s been dead for 5 years, and ask him for help against Matthias and his band of killer vamps. I’m going to hate seeing this series end.
Matthias didn’t get what he deserved but I think Frank Greisser should have been right along with Matthias. Frank was an ass-kissing suck-up to Matthias and didn’t deserve a place on the Vampire Tribunal anymore.
There was explicit sex in this book and the F-bomb was used 37 times.
As to the narration: Amy McFadden did just as badly in this book as she did in Absolution. Her men’s voices are just toooo girlie. Big bad vampires sounding like girls is simply awful.
I have about 25 things running through my head right now as I finish this book… YES!! NOOO! OMG! Sweet Baby Jesus! Holy Crap! GET ‘EM! I really want him dead! WOW!! That’s just awesome! And HOT DAMN!! Ok so now that I’ve gotten that out, let me say this, I really didn’t think Ms Susannah could top my Book Boyfriend, Mirren’s, book Absolution, but to all things holy, I think Will’s story and the continuation has blown all expectations out the window, through the sky, and into the universe! It’s so good that I want to figure out a way to climb into my kindle and be there! I want to hug these characters and hold them tight forever. And then I want to steal Ms Susannah, put her in my pocket, and make her tell me stories forever and ever! I definitely owe her another big stalker hug! Maybe I could continuously retread this book to satisfy my withdrawal from these wonderful people!! LOL
I should have expected Will’s abuse by his father to be that bad, except I didn’t, and it makes me sick! I am completely humbled by how much his character and story has affected me! Any person who can endure what he has and still come out sane deserves every medal possible! And then some, with some extra special lee-way. Will is beautiful, inside and out- and please don’t let him hear that as it’ll really go to his head! I think Will’s character is not only a huge success and a favorite of mine, it shows you how astronomically talented Ms Susannah is at writing and character development! There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this is exactly what Ms Susannah should be doing!! And can I also say that I happen to love his witty comebacks, even the ones he thinks to himself!
Randa’s character is definitely another wonderful element of this book. Even though I can’t completely identify with her as an army brat, I definitely get her need to try to please everyone around her, and to try to fit in and to make sure I’m good enough and holding my own. As tough as Randa is, she is almost the weakest because she hasn’t learned to trust herself and be ok with who she is… At least not until Will got a hold of her. Her character growth in this story alone is just amazing. Funny how when you get to know someone, that outside appearance can be such a drastic difference. I am definitely sure Will and Randa make the perfect couple as they are the complete package of each other “You complete me” from Jerry Mcquire says it all!
And I absolutely love the return of my favorite characters! It’s just another reason that I love this series. Each story is based on two characters but you also get familiar faces and new faces and a continued plot line! There is a ton of action- which is highly wonderful in my opinion! I was on the edge of my toes because this is the thrill ride of a lifetime! I’ve been dying to know how it would turn out since the first 40 pages of Redemption and now I can say I’m both completely happy and mighty sad. I am saying serious major prayers that Ms Susannah is able to continue this series… It’s like a drug- I NEED MORE NOW!! And at the same time I can’t help but be elated because it was beautiful and everything I hoped for plus more! I will start a petition if I have to, just to make sure I get more! Seriously, don’t make this Cajun girl get all crazy on the publisher! You think Mirren and his sword are scary, then give me more books so you don’t have to see me get more crazy!
I will take this last moment to give you some seriously big teasers… Thank you, for the character that “died” but didn’t, and for calling Mirren Evil Dr Slayer, and for letting Randa have a mind set to make up her mind after that first kiss, and for giving Will so much depth, and for having Krys tell Will he had a nice ass and for once he’s too speechless to have a outrageous comeback, lastly, thank you for giving me what I wanted!! I will now keep the rest of my thoughts to myself I don’t think there’s enough words for me to say how phenomenal this book and entire series is… And if this hasn’t convinced you to read this series, I’ll have to hunt you down and have Mirren hold you in place while I read it to you!! Aloud. With my ridiculous Cajun accent! Hahahaha I’m going to give one of my very rare, off the scale 6 ASTRONOMICALLY PHENOMENAL PAWS! Now go get this series immediately because you’re really missing out if you don’t!!
I think I would call Omega the final volume of the first trilogy of the Penton Legacy. I say this having read that there will be more stories in this world, but Omega certainly lives up to its name; it feels like closure of the first arc.
There are two stories going on, one is the love story, and the other is the war between Aiden Murphy’s followers and the Vampire Tribunal, or at least Matthias Ludlam’s faction. The love story seemed to take a back seat to the war story this time out, and that was just fine.
If all is fair in love and war, both sides definitely played fast and loose with the rules. But Ludlam colored way further outside the lines than the Pentonites. Of course he did, not because he’s a vampire, but because he’s a sadistic asshat.
Matthias has finally managed to manipulate the political situation so that he has carte blanche to do anything necessary to bring Aiden Murphy and Mirren Kincaid back into the Tribunal fold. Matthias Ludlam also has an ulterior motive (I think the man was born with an ulterior motive) to bring his son Will to heel. But he has no clue that any sane person would rather die than be his slave.
None of Matthias’ helpers are exactly sane. They are either temporary hired help or sadists like himself. He’s never understood why Will left.
But he thinks Will is weak and stupid, when the opposite is true. In fact, Will is so strong that he is on the way to becoming a master vampire, a stronger master than his father is or will ever be.
To save their experiment in cooperation, the Pentonites have gone underground at a site they have codenamed Omega. The core group have found a way to take the fight to their enemy in a way that he will eventually understand, through infiltration and espionage.
They send in a spy that Matthias hasn’t met. Cage Reynolds was a psychiatrist. He’s able to figure out just what makes Matthias sickly tick. What he discovers is that someone they all thought was lost, is instead changed and chained. But he can only free her at the cost of his carefully constructed cover.
Have they found enough evidence to convince the Tribunal that it has been pursuing the wrong enemy all along?
Escape Rating B: This was supposed to be about the romance between Will Ludlam and Randa Thomas, and it is there, but it’s not compelling enough. There’s a lot of squabbling but not a lot of heat. I got a lot more sexual tension and romantic interest from Cage and the woman he rescues than from Will and Randa.
Also the way that Will and Randa casually agreed to become mates at the end cheapened the angst that both Aiden and Krys and Mirren and Glory went through over the same thing. In both of the previous books (Redemption and Absolution) there was supposed to be some chemistry involved as well as a blood exchange. I just didn’t feel it with Will and Randa.
But the end of the war between Matthias and Aiden, now that held my attention all the way. Every move and countermove had me riveted. Will’s revelations about his background definitely fed into my feelings about how badly Matthias needed to be taken out and how necessary it was that the good vamps win!
Will coming into his own made for a powerful story. It was the romance side of the equation that just didn’t generate enough heat. But I was very happy to see good triumph and evil mostly get its just desserts. There’s one opportunist on the Tribunal who worries me, so I’m very happy there will be more stories in this world!
Omega was a huge turning point for this series! Susannah Sandlin wasn’t afraid to tear everything she has built down and remake it into something new. The change of scenery made this entry feel very fresh and the lead characters were a lot of fun.
Will’s father is Matthias, enemy of the Penton scathe. He has worked his whole life to get away and not let his father change him. Penton is where Will belongs but he is not above sacrificing himself if it means everyone gets to be safe. I like Will because he has a quick wit and an easy smile, but behind it he is hiding the psychological damage caused by his father. Though they argue quite a bit at first, he and Randa soon recognize each other as kindred spirits and allow one another to become comfortable in their own skins. I really liked Randa; she was the first lead female that could hold her own physically with the big boys. She was also very smart and a good military tactician. I think she and Will will be a very fun couple to watch as they develop their mate bond. They spend a lot of this book pretty beaten up so the love scenes weren’t quick as frequent as the other two books, but I did love their playfulness at Randa’s military-issued “granny panties.”
This is the first book to have a really dominate third point of view, Aidan’s newest lieutenant Cage. I have to say that Cage almost stole the show for me. I loved him, especially when he was working with Will or Hannah. He is caught in a very uncomfortable love triangle at the moment, but Ms. Sandlin is able to take even this cliché and make it something unique and touching. I’m not going to say who the other two characters are but suffice it to say, the circumstances were pretty surprising. I like that other Penton residents come into and fade out of the story as necessary without feeling like the series is becoming filled with too many characters. The main vampires and their mates & fams anchor the story and help to keep the main plotline on track.
I really enjoyed the inclusion of Randa’s human family into the story. The resolution was creative but still felt feasible. I loved how the Tribunal got a bit of comeuppance at the end and I can’t say I’m sorry to see Matthias meet his fate. This book seems to have wrapped up the original trilogy, but I hope that there are more Penton books on the way. I must know more about Cage and how his love life works out and I want to see what happens to Hannah as she develops her powers. More please, Ms. Sandlin!
Thank you to Susannah Sandlin for providing an ARC copy of this book!
After the end of Absolution, we can only have one wish: Read Omega. Indeed, the events of the second volume ends in a fairly explosive way and I was curious about the followings events.
So we start directly after the end of the second novel and our whole town took refuge in Omega, but it’s only the start of troubles and Matthias has not abandoned his desire to destroy all the inhabitants of Penton and especially to recover his son. Will and Randa patrol around Omega, trying to understand what the enemy is trying to do. In addition to that, as we have seen it before, a kind of relationship begins to appear between them although Randa fights as she can to not succumb. It was pretty funny to see them evolve together. By their past, they both try to show their values and loyalty to Aidan. But Will is determined to thwart his father whatever that might mean.
It was really interesting to follow Will this time in this novel. Despite the character we think we knew in the first two books, we discover a whole new side. We knew that our hero had to overcome many obstacles in order to escape his father, but not what it really meant to him. It was pretty crazy and sad to discover the truth about him. He will open himself to Cage (to help him) and mainly to Randa gradually and we are surprised by his strength and courage. But that's not all, Randa is also a character that we learn to discover here. She is a young woman proud and strong but also has a high sensitivity and many doubts. She did not really like her vampire side and did everything to forget who she really is though this is not possible. Will will help her to evolve, to understand and accept what she is. Of course we will also discover more about Matthias and Cage here. I admit that I was curious to see what both had in reserve. One is pretty crazy and the other tries to do his best to help Penton.
War is coming faster than expected on the gates of Omega, but our protagonists Aidan, Mirren and the others are far from ready to surrender and fight to preserve the life they have built. A new very good volume and I would love to learn more about Melissa and Cage now.
A supremely imaginative paranormal romance that will delight fans of Keri Arthur and Charlaine Harris.
Fresh, current and contemporary this thoroughly modern narrative is one that slots into its genre beautifully, as something refreshingly new and exciting! Omega is the third installment within a steamy paranormal series called ‘Penton Legacy’ with Redemption (book one) and Absolution (book 2). Omega continues the story as foretold within the previous books with Adrian and Matthias in heated conflict, amid the bloody war between the Vampire Tribunal and the defiant scathe of Penton, Alabama, raging on. As all retreat to Omega where sanctuary is sought, Will Ludlam is charged with protecting Penton’s humans rather than fighting alongside his Vampire brethren (much to his dislike). Will is however keen to fight and prove his worth and so when the enemy does descend to meet them, he is ready along with his partner Randa. This is an exciting tale that cleverly combines varying genres in a remarkable story, of courage and inner strength versus love.
Taken on a rollercoaster of a ride, this poignant and often dramatic story is one that had me glued to the pages and needing a box of tissues for I found it so effecting. Will is a kind-hearted, likeable character who carries within great knowledge and yet has the body of a twenty-two year old. Sizzling and sensual the growing relationship that forms between Will and Randa is quite hypnotic, as their friendship grows into lust and love and the Vampire within is suppressed. As mesmerizing as Bella and Edward or Stephan and Elena, this astonishingly surprising paranormal romance certainly exceeded all expectations.
Enchanting and deeply fascinating, this well-written and cleverly crafted story was a delight to behold and a really enjoyable read. Unputdownable and addictive, I was engrossed especially during the fast-paced action scenes that are so intense and dynamic. Beautifully blending impassioned character-driven sagas with nail-biting drama within a delicate supernatural ambiance, this impressive story is a compelling read. I am so pleased to have had the opportunity of reading this fantastic book and I look forward to discovering more of Susannah Sandlin’s work.
*I won a paperback copy of “Omega by Susannah Sandlin” through a Goodreads, first-read giveaway*
I loved it. Book three wraps up a wonderful story which started in book one. While books one and two centered around the two master vampires in the town of Penton....book three was all Will, son of Mathias (arch enemy and really bad dad)and smart-ass, golden playboy Master in the making.
What this series has going for it is not so much the romance and sex scenes but the entire storyline and plot. It is intricate and has so many players that you are so enthralled with what is going on you sometimes forget that this is basically a romance trilogy.
The author brings in so many interesting characters....on both sides of a vampire war; who each have unique abilities and personality facets. Most of these characters you grow to really care about and/or hate.
Will partners with Renda in this story. Renda is a former soldier, turned vampire by surprise while serving in Afghanistan five years ago. She disappeared from site and let her family believe she was dead. She has never quite accepted her life as a vampire, is depressed, a bit lost while keeping her tough as nails exterior.
Will is her exact opposite....carefree, smart, a ladies man...accepting of life as it is. He has a long history of emotional and sexual abuse from his father and his cronies and hides it with his "what-ever", comedic attitude.
In what has become an almost impossible situation at Omega, an underground bunker Will and Renda decide to travel to visit her father to see if he can help them. Daddy runs a paramilitary company with his sons (all former military.) Can you imagine walking up one night and knocking on the door.....what would you say? What emotions would you feel when your dad opened the door?
I can't say much more without giving away the ending but I thought that everything was plausible. And I liked how things did not happen over night and quickly as they do in some novels. this series had a more realistic feel to it as the desperation built over time. In the end we are satisfied and happy readers.
All-in-all, great read!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I’ve been a very lucky reader this year and have found many original paranormal reads, Omega is definitely one of them. It’s exciting, sensual, touching, and fun all rolled into one great read any fan of the genre will enjoy.
Randa is one kick butt heroine. She’s a tough chick that has an amazing heart and outer beauty to match. She’s a fairly new vampire (5 years to be exact) and cannot bring herself to accept her new life and what it entails. She closes herself off a bit from others and her own explorations due to this fact. She figures she’ll stick to what she knows best and that’s kicking bad guy bootie!
Will is an older vampire (about 60 years in) and has grown to accept what he is. He’s extremely smart and VERY good looking. He also has a haunted past that has brought him to see himself as weak and a bit worthless. He comes off as arrogant and cold, but he’s very far from it all (love this guy!)
LOVE both Randa and Will. Two great peeps (vamps) right there and even better together. I forgot to mention earlier that I started at this point in the series, I’ve not read book 1 or 2 and found myself at perfect ease with the story, never got lost or had to stop and ask “huh”. It is very wonderfully written so it can be read as a stand-alone. I look forward to reading more from Susannah.
Overall, I'm really enjoying the series. I might even fudge up to 4½♥s on this (though if I do, book #2 definitely needs to be at least 4½♥s.) The world is interesting, the mythology and 'urban' influence on the vampires keeps everything inventive and fun, and the characters are oodles of joy. This book has the whole banter thing down pat... but I will say it seemed a hair forced on the romance. I swear, at once point it's like this switch got flicked that turned animosity into some sort of super lust.
I don't dislike their romance, or this story, but it just seemed a hair off. It's quite possible that Will smoothed everything over for me, though. Add in the fact that there is tons of history (Will's childhood) and the romance wasn't really the main point of the story... it's more of a supporting trail that feeds back into the plot - really excuses some of my issues with this. The same way I felt book #1 was just a hair formulaic at times, I feel opposite with this book because #3 really leaves many conventions behind.
I'd say overall, Book #2 is so far my favorite, next would be this book, and book #1 is my least favorite of the series so far. All are future re-read material and I am interested in continuing the series.
Omega occurs as the Tribunal has decided to disband the community of Penton. With lives and freedom on the line, everyone is tense and on the edge. Will is spotlighted in this series and his sharp wit and teasing nature are on vivid display. This story progresses and the action builds with a tension that is palpable, demanding that you read on. As this series has progressed, more of the background information for all of the characters and the hesitancy about the Tribunal becomes clearer, and urges you to root for the survival of Penton and the people (vampire and human) that it shelters. I read all three of the books in this series in one sitting, and am desperate to read book four. With a writing style that exceeded all of my expectations, Susannah Sandlin has created one of the best vampire series that I have read to date.
I received an eBook copy from the author for purpose of honest review for the BTS eMagazine. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.
I absolutely love this series!! And finally, we have Will. The sarcastic, playful vamp who hides deep secrets. And Randa was perfect for him. Still more UF with some romance. But again, I definitely recommend this series. Each book is as good, if not better, than the last. I'll be sad to see the series end with the next book.
Another good story in the Penton Legacy series with some surprising twists. Like book two, this installment is heavier on plot and Penton character building as opposed to the over-sexualized romance from the first book. I was happy about that.
There is a friends-to-lovers romance between Will and Randa. I liked this romance, but it doesn’t really take center stage because there is so much more going on in Penton. As Mathias is finally given the authority to destroy the Penton faction, Will and the rest of the town are forced to escape underground.
The solution to taking down Mathias was interesting and not one I expected. But at the same time, the conclusion felt like a natural end to the series. There are two more books after this one and I’m not sure what is left to be accomplished. I’m on the fence about continuing it.
Seriously as good as Book 2 with the vampire apocalypse, internal political civil war excitement and drama, still so much better than Book 1. I think one of the things I particularly liked about this installment was that the action, narration, and plot didn’t just center around the two MCs. Of course a big part of the book was the Will/Randa romance and the action surrounding them, but Cage was a significant part of the book, driving his own action, in his own voice. The same with our baddies, Shelton and Matthias, and some also with Mirren and Aiden. Not much from Krys and practically nothing with Glory and Hannah. The inclusion of Randa’s human family was a delightfully unexpected twist. Loved it.
Penton is in shambles - it’s former occupants are in hiding both human and vampire.
In this story we get a continuation of the action from Matthias’ invasion and all the fall out that comes with that. A struggle for survival. Unlikely allies.
A bit of chemistry and push and pull with Will and Randa. I loved Randa’s character tough on the outside but even she didn’t know what she had hidden beguine her walls. The snark and sarcasms that they bantered back and forth had my smiling and feeling the heat as theirs walls began to tumble.
I’ve waited so long for this book that I was anxious to start it in good condition. The last book of a series is always special… we want to have a conclusion and in the same time we don’t want to leave characters we have come to enjoy a lot. It can either make of a good series a wonder, either crash all the authors’ efforts put in it. Omega is keeping his promises really well and gives us a wonderful insight on Will’s personality.
Before in Redemption Will was the one who kept the ambience light, making fun, laughing, playing video game but still a real member of Penton Scathe. Later in Absolution, we got to see how he was also the strategist and the mind of Penton, always thinking ahead and supporting Aidan more ways than that was under the light; and a good fighter when needed. Omega shows us Will in all his complexity with the explanations from his past – though I would have loved to have more details how he met Aidan- and glimpses of his future opportunities. Will is full of potential like the readers could have guessed from the precedent instalments of the story but there is so much more he is unaware of. Under his cool boy façade is a young man who lacks confidence in himself, who fights to prove his worth and thinks that for that he must keep his weaknesses hidden. He is underestimating himself as a result of years of insults and recriminations, to cover how deeply he is hurt emotionally he hides under his façade. Randa is a new lieutenant of Aidan and the most recently transformed, coming from a military family where she was the only girl surrounded by brothers she has learned to be though and that hasn’t changed when she became, against her will, a vampire. But it’s mostly a mask too to keep people at distance. At first, she judges Will only on his looks and doesn’t give him a chance but circumstances will force them to open to each other and she will be really surprised as well as be surprising. Aidan did pick his lieutenants really well^^; .
I was also really happy to see Hannah learning more about her powers and staying a child, I think she found a great playmate in Barnabas ^^; and perhaps a new father ‘s figures but that’s to be seen if we get more books. Mirren and Glory as well as Aidan and Krys are still perfectly in character and it’s a pleasure to keep this stability along the story. Now we also get new characters like Cage and Edward…. Cage is a former psychiatrist and it’s needed in omega as well as a bonus to form strategy. He is Edward’s emissary and loyal to Aidan. He is a great addition and I loved to see how he loved and was loyal to Penton first, yes he plan to try to export the idea but the city counts a lot for him. I liked how he was responsible enough to give Mark a chance even if he was really interested (though as a psychiatrist he should think about the saviour syndrome and takes a step back to analyse what part of his feeling are real and which one is due to the circumstances) To be honest that part of the things that bothered me a little, but mostly because of his profession, and I was terrified to have guessed what Matthias did… I don’t want to uncover anything to let you the pleasure to find out but the fact I understood so well his mind as to guess his next move *brrr * terrifying Susannah made it possible by describing him so well in the precedents books and by the description of the final scene in Absolution but still ^^;; I was surprised to right on my assumption. (Perhaps I’m watching Criminals minds a little too much too^^;;)
Omega is really well written with the focus put on the characters’ psychology thanks to Cage input but not only. Secrets are revealed and we can see a side we don’t often get to see from the heads of Penton. I’m glad they were alone. It’s really perfect, since it’s true: living in Omega and under pressure must have an impact on everyone vampire or not. The intrigues thicken, allegiances are revealed, alliances are created and new perspectives are opened. Not a minute to get bored! The action is strong and fast paced, with some moment to take our breath and reflect on what we are learning and the romance is burning after hesitations, and so many risks the sparks left place to a real inferno^^;; who would have guessed the seductive power of the military undergarments.
Really it’s a good book, if I don’t give it a 5/5 it’s only because personally I didn’t bonded well with Cage’s attraction (only a little) but more because of the ending. Susannah did it well in the sense that the main plot and secondary one have found their conclusion, nothing is amiss but in the same time she let the door open so future books to be added to this universe so we could be happy if it’s the case and not feeling like we are missing something if the publisher don’t contract for more. However, with my personality I would have loved to see more of what happen next, would Mirren take his ex job back only a last time just for pleasure? Since there was some corruption is there no risk at all with the situation?
I would recommend this book without a doubt for those above 18, it’s really a wonderful paranormal romance one you will enjoy more if you read the books in order. Still, I think it’s better if I inform you that there are mentions of rape, child abuse and some torture.
They keep getting better and better! I love a series that builds and builds on the existing world. Not only focusing on 2 single main characters but still fully engaged in all the working of the world. This one was just as great can not wait to see how this develops!
Getting to read more of Will Ludlam's story was wonderful. As the renegade son of the Tribunal’s vicious leader it makes him a very interesting and important part of the series. I fell in love with Aidan and Krys, then Mirren and Glory's but I think this one is my favorite so far, because of Will and Randa's romance.
I borrowed this book as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription as an audio book. The story has gone from strength to strength, expanding and evolving. Not too predictable with a good mix of characters, will definitely be reading the next book.
Susannah Sandlin really has to work on the way she ends her books. I’ve read so many PNR series and while I like her books, I think her weakness lies in her ability to write a satisfying ending. It always ends so suddenly.
Book three finally ends Williams fathers madness.is cage and Maggie true mates? Yet she is married to mark and was very happy until she meets cage and got turned into something new
These books are really great to listen to. They move quickly and they add a good backstory without dragging. If you like murder, sex, and vampires, you will thoroughly enjoy them.
I was about to abandon the series but gave it another try. This one was the best so far. It has politics, strategy, family values, evolving characters and justice. It was entertaining from start to finish.
This is Will and Randa's story, as well as moving the story of Melissa and Mark along. It's got Mattias, Will's father, trying to destroy Penton, as well as the whole community having to go into Omega and how they cope. I am loving this series.
